Your research has confirmed what I have told people and practiced myself for years! They ask, when is the best time to hunt deer? My response is always, Every chance you get!!!

Thanks for the education. I grew up hunting moose, so whitetails were a challenge. Moose come easy to me. This year I had the opportunities to see so many bucks. I am no longer mystified by the big bucks. Great work by your team.

Did you compile any data in regards to movement amounts and temperature? Drops in temperature related to weather fronts.

In the area of the pines. Is it mature pines that haven't been select thinned or young oine plantations? I've hunted in pines my entire life and have found young pines and stripped/thinned pines are great areas to hunt. Mature pines with no under cover or brouse is a deer desert.

As always great stuff. For me, what would really impact my knowledge of how to hunt bucks, if the data was ran to show net displacement everyday noon to noon time... My thought is each day at noon should represent daytime bedding or at least as close to what we can assume is their daytime... What is the net displacement from noon to noon to noon. That would show us if their daytime bedding was changing day to day. Then the same could be done for the evening feeding cycle which is the easiest for us to hunt to determine how often they change feeding areas. Anyhow, just keep on bringing it great stuff!!!

We plan to do just that. We will post on social media when we get the answer. Good question.

Is there a video on movement as it relates to wind direction that day? I get the food, cover, etc.. but it seems like they almost move with like the wind, or against it rather. Any correlation or data on this?

In addition to showing average, why don’t you emphasize median which statistically could be more important than average to help weed out the extreme events that can help increase or lower averages?

Really appreciate the studies and info that you all do. It's interesting the data and how personal experiences do not coincide. Full moon for instance, I have never had any luck with daytime movement in the early am and dusk situations on a target mature buck. And honestly daytime movement seems a lot slower in general.
In addition one, if not the most important, variable that is not discussed in your movement studies is temperature variance from day to day. As hunters we rely so much on those weather fronts and cold temps for increased daylight movement that it should be incorporated into some info with daytime movement and feeding patterns. Obviously there are a lot of applications available now that consider a lot of that type of data to support deer movement. It would be interesting to compare the data of a few of those popular platforms to your research as well. Keep doing what you are doing. I really enjoy and find it super interesting.

Surprising to see there's not much selection for the Herbaceous category. I assumed those to be old fields, CRP, NWSG, good screening type areas. I would have thought they would have been selected for at a higher rate.

I am a bit confused, is this data for bucks only or bucks and doe? I for years have avoided the full moon. I guess I'll have to change.

But it does show more activity during a Full Moon and The Rut together. Just saying😊
