Holy heck mate. You've been through enough trauma for 10 people. Thank goodness for running! I knew someone who was on Tramodol years ago and could not get off it at all, despite the damage it was doing to them mentally and physically. You've done an amazing job to get through so much and come out as the strong, funny, happy character we see on UA-cam now. Keep doing what you do mate. All the best 👍 🙂

So brave Craig! Thanks for sharing. I follow you from Australia and look forward to seeing your video's and runs each week. I've even used your Parkrun video's (we have nearly the same number of Parkrun's- I did my 200th last w/e) as course guides for when I am over in Yorkshire visiting family. Stay brave and keep up the good work. You can see from the other comments that there is a lot of love out there for you. I hope you're back running soon.

That blows my mind you're watching from Australia, thank you it'd really appreciated. And no way, I literally do my 200th this weekend which I'm sad will be predominantly walking but can't have sister mandy running away with the location streak crown lol.
Glad you enjoy the content and again, thank you. Your kind words like the others here are beyond appreciated x

Hi Craig, I felt humbled to witness your raw and honest account of the last 20 years, it must have been a very difficult decision to reveal your past struggles and I genuinely hope that it can help others. Let's face it, modern life is stressful enough without painful life events on top and I think it shows remarkable bravery (with the fantastic support of your brother and sister) to finally challenge and overcome the demons that have haunted you for years. They say that some GPs actually prescribe Parkrun to people who are depressed because it's so much more than a run, but you starting with the lamp post challenge, that must have been tough. And 1:44 for your first half - that's remarkable! I'd be happy with 2:15! So, stay positive, keep running, keep entertaining us, know that loads of people love what you're doing (and Sister Mandy of course) and also know this - that not many people could do what you did (the comeback and the video)...

Yes I've heard that before about parkrun being prescribed. It's such an amazing thing to be able to help lift someone and I wish everyone would at least try it once.
Thanks again for your support Andy, it is as always greatly appreciated x

Hola Craig. That’s some journey - but only just beginning 😊. The UA-cam dynamic adds a support network too, I feel. Keep doing what you’re doing and who knows where it will lead 🙃

Thank you Mark, you're completely right. The addition of UA-cam for me is pretty special, just looking at the comments on this video demonstrate that, thanks for being a part of it too buddy x

Craig, what a profound video. Thank you for sharing. Everyone wants the view, but no-one wants to climb the mountain. You sir, have climbed the mountain and then some. I know the feeling; it never feels finished. The wolf is always on the shoulder, but as long as you know that and have the mechanisms to manage it, you can live with it. I love that the simplest of things, running, can have such an impact. I'm sure you are aware of Mark Lewis and his story? Thanks for the bravery and putting this out there; we appreciated you!

Hi Craig. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. It's not something people will talk about but eating disorders are far more common amongst men than most will realise. Must've been really tough to re-visit these struggles, but it's also a huge reminder of how far you've come.
Really nice that your brother inspired you to take up running and I know how proud he will be of your achievements.
I've had struggles but am so grateful to have found running and the wonderful community that comes with it.
Thanks again. Wishing you all the best as your recovery continues.

@@TheRunningWhale Massive respect. We all have our reasons for running but I wouldn’t be brave enough to be so open.
Always best to look forward where possible - not easy, I know.
We can’t change the past but can celebrate and appreciate the good things which are happening now.

Craig, you genuinely have an inspirational story. You've been through a lot, some that I can relate with but much of which I couldn't begin to imagine, but you've come through it all and now you achieve so much. You can be very proud of yourself for tackling the hurdles that life has thrown at you and in the process managed to build a relationship with exercise that serves you well. Thank you for sharing. Your story motivates me to push myself to get better and to make sure I never let excuses get in my way.

      Absolutely mate.
I cant really justify making an excuse to avoid a run just because i might not be feeling it, when you've pushed your way through so much difficulty to take up running and turn it around and got so much benefit.
It grabs my inner voice and tells it that I'll never achieve that 25 min parkrun or the weight loss I want or any of the other health benefits that made me try running unless I actually put in the work for it, it's not enough just to want it.

100% mate, we all have more in us and can dig deep. This is why I enjoy seeing others such as yourself and Becky document your training and results, we all help each other in ways we don't realise 💪🏃‍♂️
