I called Clayton Offroad to discuss their suspension options. I was sold. Glad you went Clayton. That's all I needed. They seem like an awesome company. Great content as always! Thanks!
i have been running the clayton 2.5 inch overland plus kit on my 2018 jlu Sahara for last two years. it is paired with the falcon 3.3 shocks and a swayloc system. I am very happy i went with the Clayton kit it has been awesome very solid feel when driving and offers good flexibility when needed. I drive a lot on washboard and rough roads and every thing has stayed tight and squeak free. only thing have had happen was the jam nut on lower control arm had backed off one time. I live in a part of the country with very curvy river roads and with the way i have the jeep set up it handles better than it did in stock form. Also i pull a 12ft enclosed trailer with it and the jeep handles that very nice and solid. I did do the lift at home by myself and it went smooth other than the tool i needed was always on the wrong side and that little pump deal was a pain. glad to see you back on youtube and keep up the good work.
Any issues with the driveshaft? Mine is in the shop today (Beach Edition) getting a 3.5 JKS on it. Just wondered if the XR package had any drive shaft issues. Thanks in advance.
Great video, as always. I have to say I appreciate you using regular tools to show some of the install. So many guys just bash through jobs on videos using their impact tools, and that's great and all, but in my younger days all I had was hand tools, so I appreciate that. That said, working on my F150, my big milwaukee impact is a damn life saver. I also appreciate the time to showing some good closer shots of the product. So often you can't get an idea of the quality from the images on the forums or even the manufacturers own site.
Really thinking about this 3.5 Overland + for my 23 JTR. Just waiting for a sale at this point. I think this is the kit I'm going with. SO hard to decide!!!!
love the vid man i just wanted to ask why did you go with fox instead of falcons im planning on doing the lift myself but i want some feedback from others
What did you end up with on the front and rear bumper stop extensions- did you leave the stock xr only or did you add in the additional Clayton bump stop extensionsv
Buddy of mine gave me this XR takeoffs because he installed same kit as you on his JLURXR. I put them on my 2 door Willys and it gave me at least 3” of lift on all 4 corners, 3.5” in the rear. I love them and handles better than stock. HAD TO ADD 1” Tereflex spacer after settling due to my steel bumper, winch, and front skid plate.
Did you run into driveshaft issues? I’m looking at the 2.5 vs 3.5 because of this issue. Tom Woods was what I used on my XJ with a 4” OME lift, rode great.
This is probably a really huge question that depends on a lot of things, but here we go anyway... I own a Mojave, which is basically a Gladiator you buy because of the shocks and suspension. For a while now, my plan has just been to get the AEV 2" Mojave spacer lift kit to eventually run 37s. I've read lots of good things about the AEV kit, and it looks like a fairly simple install. Understanding that these Clayton kits contain a lot of things that the AEV kit doesn't (springs, track bars, sway bars, etc), is it worth the massive increase in price to go with a Clayton lift kit vs just the AEV spacer lift? I know folks will say that spacer lifts are if you want to retain your stock ride quality (of which I have no complaints, really), but I also don't know what I don't know. Maybe something does suck about the Mojave suspension and I'm unaware of it? Are these Clayton kits really THAT much better than the Jeep factory suspension on a Mojave? I know, big question, probably not easy to answer, but that's what you get for being the internet's best Jeep friend. :)
I have a '23 Mojave and I just installed the AEV kit and Mopar Performance LCAs last week; I'm on 37x13.5x17s. The AEV kit will have everything you need for the lift and it rides completely stock. There is no reason to spend more unless you're set on going higher with your lift. Mine came out to be almost 3" in the rear and about 2 3/8" up front; note I do have the tow package. If you have any other questions let me know.
Good comment answering this , the Mojave is a tricky one due to all of the suspension upgrades it already has! I would probably say the same , if you want to go big go with Clayton, to stay below 3 , aev
@@sellickusa Awesome, thanks for the info man! I had also heard good things about replacing the factory LCAs with the Mopar ones (feels weird to say that), so that's definitely on my list too. Any rubbing or anything with the 13.5" wheel width? No need for spacers?
Trail Cartel has a good video on it and there are some others. I am still debating if I want a Wrangler or a Mojave so I watch them all before I replace my JKU someday soon I hope.
@@Jackal_Blitz zero rubbing. I ran my 37s for about 2 weeks before I put the lift on. The Method wheels I'm running have a 0 offset, so it's perfect. Glad I could help though. Great video sir and very timely. I have a question, getting very different feedback in forums, dealers, 4wheel parts etc. I'm researching lift kits for my wife's 2022 Rubicon 4xe. There are folks that claim the 4xe Rubicon sits an inch taller than the non 4xe Rubicon? I was considering the Mopar lift but several folks have said it's okay but rides very stiff, also claims of binding. I am considering a Teraflex 2.5 inch and also Clayton after watching this video. That lift kit seems very well thought out and substantial in terms of heavy-dutiness etc. Another concern I have with the 4xe Rubicon is again forums and a video that was done by Epic Adventure Outfitters. It seems Under full droop once you lift a 4xe, there is some drive shaft clearance issues where it connects to the transfer case. I did ask the dealer concerning the Mopar lift, it does not include a drive shaft nor did they say it needs replacing. I did see that Clayton offers a 1.5 in overlanding kit, that may be the ticket as we plan to run 35s, no bigger. This Jeep will spend likely 90% of its time on the road and when off road, over Landing type driving Moab area, Ouray, CO trails etc. I appreciate your thoughts and input thank you.
Actually better than the muffler delete- banks just released their 3” monster exhaust specific for the 2.0l wrangler. No drone and is a bit louder when accelerating but isn’t too loud while cruising.
Who did you use here locally for a good alignment after this? Normally a tape measure and a laser toe alignment is fine for me, but thinking about putting this lift on my JK in a few weeks… the shop next to a certain Italian ice place in cleona has been great, but wanted your opinion.
Also are you having steering issues. Im thinking of getting the SECTOR SHAFT BRACE WITH FRAME SIDE TRACK BAR REINFORCEMENT BRACKET. See if that works and if no noticeable difference I will do drag link and tie rod
I just put a4 inch in my 2 door jl. I tighten the drag link while it didn't have the weight of the jeep on it. What will this do to my jeep? Should I loosen it then retighten it with the weight on it? Totally new to this lifted jeep stuff

I have a 392 XR, if I get the 392 2.5" OVERLAND+ from Clayton, do I keep my same exact height? because a 392 has a factory 1” lift and then the Extreme Recon Package adds an additional 1.5” lift equaling 2.5. Also, what is the difference between the 392 2.5" OVERLAND+ and the 392 2.5" Premium Lift Kit 2018+, JL from the Clayton website? Thanks! (First Jeep, brand new to all this)
It would probably be a little taller as they have them sit 2.5 inches over a stock 392 so it should be an inch higher even for an XR. The difference in overland vs premium are the joints, the premium is Currie Johnny joints which require maintenance but give the most flex
I would love an extreme recon suspension for my 2 door JL! Giveaway would be fair! Thank you for the in depth look at what it takes for a lift kit install
Great Video! I’ll be subscribing. My Rubi has some parts coming very soon. I talked to James and he helped spec out the kit I ordered and I went with the HD Springs…I’ve seen several JT guys I follow end up switching to Clayton Kits; I’m the buy it right the first time kind of guy. The Fox shocks are awesome on a stock Rubicon. However, daily with RTT for me hasn’t been pleasant lately. I’ve got to try something adjustable that won’t break the bank, so I’ll be going a slightly different approach on shocks. Can’t wait to start turning wrenches and filming! I noticed you answered a question while filming were you doing a live pre-production?
I ordered my 2022 Rubicon with the XR package to help with the trials following your lead. Get it with the XR package so everything is under warranty. Why did you go another 1.5 inches in lifting with Clayton as opposed to staying with XR package. Additionally, is the shock travel on the XR package compromised by travel restriction or did they use special shocks to accommodate the added lift to the Rubicon of the XR package. Thanks, Lonnie
@@DIRTROADCRED Thanks for the quick reply. Where can I find information on the shocks used in the XR package? Are they "standard" Rubicon shocks stretched to the max thus losing travel or are they different and ok. All the best. Lonnie
Question on your shocks. The lift is +3.5", but the extreme recon is +1.5" already. Did you go with +2-4" shocks or +4-6" shocks? Or does the +3.5 lift replace/include the +1.5 lift?
Can you run back through exactly why you opted to keep the XR bump stops rather than install the ones that came with the kit? Is it because one set is bigger/smaller than the other? Or because they're already relatively similar? I couldn't quite wrap my head around that one! Love this style of video, just enough info to follow along and get the gist of who/what/where/why/how. Even after 10 years of jeeping/crawling, I always kind of assumed that a lift meant an instant compromise with driveability - so super thrilled to know that you actually can improve your on-road and off-road drive feel with a quality kit. Excited to learn what other components you choose to upgrade to compliment/augment this lift! All the best!
I kept the XR due to the fact that they are very similiar to the 1.5 inch kit bump stops, I want to also decide on my tire size so I can determine how much I need to limit up travel!
So did you ever decide what you were doing in regard to the bumpstop? I ordered the 3.5” premium kit and I skipped the bumpstop as well. Will be running a 37”, not sure if your opinion has changed or not…
Quick question. Hopefully, you or someone can answer my question? I recently purchased a 4xe Sahara and it came with the mopar lift with the fox shocks. Could I run the Clayton 3.5 lift with the mopar fox shocks? I know that my jeep will clear 37s with the mopar lift, BUT I want more of a lift.
Awesome stuff as always! My vote is a giveaway for the suspension! I know I'm looking at lifts right now for my stock sport and this economy doesn't jive with the prices! 😂
I'm thinking of using Clayton's 1.5" Ride Right on my JLUR to properly add 35's and make sure geometry is maintained and ride height, any issues/suggestions?
What's the total vehicle height? Looking at this very kit, or very similar, but concerned it will be too tall for my garage. Have a stock 2015 JKU Sahara 4d Hardtop that sits at 72" on 31" Pirelli Scorpions. Factory it would be 72.6" on 31.5" AT's. Max clearance for my garage door is 77" (had a new slab poured and the contractor was a jack wagon... that's a whole ither story) and I'm willing to remove the hardtop to slide it in for storage. Will eventually add front bumper with winch, back bumper, HD spare mount, and rock rails but this will take some time to cover. Will go close to 35" tires, but stay closer to or below 34.5" (i.e.: Geolander A/T- XD, 285/75 R18) Not interested in loosing half the gains by going with a 2.5" lift once everything above is added (as some forums suggested). ALSO, not interested in listening to my better half about having it in the driveway until all of that happens and gets it low enough to clean the garage door. Thoughts?
Love your videos! This may sound dumb but going to ask anyways.. is this specific lift kit good for gas mileage too? How does it effect your 2.0 turbo engine
Another nice video. I traded in my 2017 Nissan Titan XD with a 6 inch lift for a 2020 Jeep Xtreme Recon, with the basic lift. Your videos have been very informative and helpful seems how this is my first ever jeep. By any chance are your wheels available? 😉
Are you still looking for a buyer on those Xtreme Recon wheels and tires you painted? I am really interested in getting them? How can I contact you about them?
Looks like your coils were bowed a tad in one of the shots at the end. Curious if you end up needing the coil correction pads from rock krawler. Also can not wait to see how it works out with the XR bump stops.
Lifting sometimes causes that, it really depends on the kit and if it creates other parts to have more stress, a video on death wobble would be a good idea!
Just upgraded my 2013 jku with this system but for 4.5" lift paired with falcon 3.3 shocks... holy shit!!!... better than factory... get rid of those fox shocks btw... lmao...& food for thought, the moment you mess with the suspension they have every single right in the book to void your warranty, we don't do this for manufacturers warranty, only parts warranty... that's life, get over it... lmao...
Great video Bro 👍👍 I've always liked Claytons lift kits, very good quality, and the guys are ALWAYS ready to answer questions and help out. I did notice one thing though that you may want to check into, when I did my 2.0 they sent brake line extension brackets, which I didn't see with yours, check that out just to be sure, cause I had that exact same kit. Also can you give the name of the shop you use for alignment?? Now that my order has been moved into Que for production, it shouldn't be long and I will need an alignment shop, thanks.
You’ll want longer shocks with the Clayton kit
Great Video!
Thanks!!
Awesome stuff as always! My vote is a giveaway for the suspension! I know I'm looking at lifts right now for my stock sport and this economy doesn't jive with the prices! 😂
Good idea!
Those wheels and tires will look great on my JL rubicon , how can we join the giveaway contest?
I think im going to give away the suspension the wheels and tires are for sale
How can I get hold of the details for price, shipping, listing?
Shoot me an email

I'm thinking of using Clayton's 1.5" Ride Right on my JLUR to properly add 35's and make sure geometry is maintained and ride height, any issues/suggestions?
That would be a nice set up!
I’ll take the new lift!😂 been looking for a rubicon take off, but extreme recon sounds good to me, I got a stock 2018 jl sport
I’m thinking a giveaway!
LOOKS REALLY GOOD...CANT WAIT TO SEE IT WITHTHOSE BIGGER TIRES! LET ME KNOW IF YOU END UP SELLING THOSE WHEELS
Sounds good!
Nice video Matt. I was wondering if a lift kit is required for 33” tires? Enjoying your content. Thanks.
Depends on the jeep!
@@DIRTROADCRED Wrangler sport, stock 32” tires.
Looks really good, can't wait to see it with the new tires 👍
Thanks Ray!
I think the wheels would look good on my gladiator. Maybe a giveaway? Love watching!
Good idea!
Will go close to 35" tires, but stay closer to or below 34.5" (i.e.: Geolander A/T- XD, 285/75 R18)
Not interested in loosing half the gains by going with a 2.5" lift once everything above is added (as some forums suggested). ALSO, not interested in listening to my better half about having it in the driveway until all of that happens and gets it low enough to clean the garage door.
Thoughts?
Still fits in my garage I have a 7 foot door!
Love your videos! This may sound dumb but going to ask anyways.. is this specific lift kit good for gas mileage too? How does it effect your 2.0 turbo engine
The lift didn’t affect the mpg!
Great video….. like the lift.
Thanks Mike!
Another nice video. I traded in my 2017 Nissan Titan XD with a 6 inch lift for a 2020 Jeep Xtreme Recon, with the basic lift. Your videos have been very informative and helpful seems how this is my first ever jeep.
By any chance are your wheels available? 😉
Yes they are! Shoot me an email! Matt@dirtroadcredmedia.com
Are you still looking for a buyer on those Xtreme Recon wheels and tires you painted? I am really interested in getting them? How can I contact you about them?
Shoot me an email to matt@dirtroadcredmedia.com
Looks like your coils were bowed a tad in one of the shots at the end. Curious if you end up needing the coil correction pads from rock krawler. Also can not wait to see how it works out with the XR bump stops.
I’ll have to wait and see after it settles for a bit
@@DIRTROADCRED also I forgot to ask. Where you went to a 3.5 inch lift is drive shaft replacement required?
would also like to know if you need a longer drive shaft with a 3.5" lift
Another great video guys! Curious about the infamous "Death Wobble". Does lifting my Jeep increase the possibility of getting those?
Lifting sometimes causes that, it really depends on the kit and if it creates other parts to have more stress, a video on death wobble would be a good idea!
I’ve been running a 4” loft on my 2 door jl with fox shock. Zero issues drives fantastic
Wow great video
Thanks Dawn!
Just upgraded my 2013 jku with this system but for 4.5" lift paired with falcon 3.3 shocks... holy shit!!!... better than factory... get rid of those fox shocks btw... lmao...& food for thought, the moment you mess with the suspension they have every single right in the book to void your warranty, we don't do this for manufacturers warranty, only parts warranty... that's life, get over it... lmao...
Yeah to a point, they have to show a direct failure caused by the suspension mods!
Let’s go hit AOAA and test it out
I’m down!
@@DIRTROADCRED
I’m available any weekend up to Christmas holiday.
Pick a weekend and let me know.
And you might as well go ahead and throw the 40s on there, 😎😎 great looking jeep.
Hey! So they actually did include them just didn’t show them on here, and send me an email and I can help with the alignment shop !
Matt@dirtroadcredmedia.com
I vote for a giveaway for the stock suspension. Would work great on my JLUSS! 😂
Good call!
I mean the XR suspension and wheels would look good on my Gladiator 😂
Looks great. Probably the way I would go too.
Lol yes they would!
14:08 lol
Worst sound ever…..
Lemme get that suspension if you haven't given it away yet!
Lol I’m going to hold onto it a little longer
Gotta go with 40s on this. It would be nasty!
I think so too!
“…definitely buy a Bronco.” 😂
Lol right
Let me take the old parts off your hands lol 👉👈
Lol I have to figure out what to do with them!
👍
😎
I like mopar lift better
nothing crazy
My jeep drives like no lift
I’m a bigger fan of Clayton!
Beefy!
