      I never had the chance, unfortunately, but always glanced longingly at the box every time I was at a GW back in the day. Some day I'll kitbash a few trukks and the like, give it a go.

      Got and played it and off since around 00, last couple of games were last year. Best miniatures game experience ive had have been with Gorkamorka.
      Once had a Trakk boost across the whole table and the crew shoot two enemy gangers out of action in a single turn, dice likelyhood for just the boosting all that way was astronomically small.
      In this new era ive recreated the cardboard fort in fully detailed 3d printable format, also done the tower thingie as well as the two Rebel Grot vehicles (Cutta and Big Lugga), all free and downloadable for anyone that wants them to help keep the game alive :)

    I smiled the whole way through, just two brothers having silly ork fun is so wholesome - i collect and play with my brother and a friend too and weve done so for many years, mostly warhammer fantasy, but with the years we build up many different games and minis from all sorts of companies. Never had the chance to try Gorkamorka, but it looks like fun, especially the fluff around it and the old minis

    The era of Mord/Necro/Gorka really was special in GW timeline, they still resonate and have huge followings to this day (Gorka really helped ease folks into 'space'less Orks as well which was marketing genius).

    I absolutely adored this game when I was a teen. An excuse to be immature, throw some dice and be loud and silly. Don't get to do that as much nowadays, despite still playing games with half of the same people :)

    • @cjanquart
      @cjanquart 4 місяці тому +1

      Muties were a bit tricky to run and could get overpowered quickly so we ran them, as well as Grots and Diggas in special 'gettin' jumped' scenarios when your mob rating hit 200 300 or 400..but the ork player would usually win.

    The game that almost bankrupted GW according to Rick Priestley (and that staff didn't push because they didn't like orks)!!!
    Personally I loved it, the rolling road for races was great. I still have my Gorkamorka hat (one of those paper things that comes out like a spiral) although I don't have the shop display that the manager gave me on a random visit after school. I wanted to put it on my wall but it was so heavy I'd've needed nails to make it stay up and obviously no-one was going to let me do that so it sat behind my bed for a few years until it got thrown away - not by me and not with my permission I might add, wish I still had it.

    • @thecappeningchannel515
      @thecappeningchannel515 4 місяці тому

      Yes. The game sold well, but it was an insane oversized launch through mainstream toy stores. Orcs and the setting and the game lacked proper mainstream appeal and sales numbers, while good, just was not able to sell even close to target numbers.

    i really want this game back but i heard it almost backrupted GW last time or something crazy like that - Apparently it was considered a big failure :(
    But man they could easily do it! - They got the ocatarius terrain, the speedfreaks models, all the boyz to choose from - all it needs is a box with necromunda rules!

    • @zid_just_zid
      @zid_just_zid 4 місяці тому

      They did release Shadow War: Armageddon back in 2017, it was essentially (if not exactly) 2nd edition warhammer40k/classic necromunda rules so from that perspective seeing them bring it back doesnt seem as far off as it once did.
      But the one has to look at what else is going on, ie hardly any customization allowed/almost completely static unit datacards in their main games while a game like Gorkamorka would need to have individually/differently equipped gangers and vehicles, something which is never going to happen in one of their new releases which are all monopose that, at most, allow for alternative hands to pick one of two weapons sets for a specific body.
      Havnt kept up with modern Necromunda but ive seen there are now vehicles in the ash wastes, could ork stuff be slotted into that and play well?

    Love this era of GW games. For me, the game I'd want to get into from that time is Necromunda. Was delighted they were bringing it back but when I seen the new edition (in 2017) I missed the large terrain and walkways. I also hoped for a simpler ruleset than what was offered so I ended up staying away from it :/

    Gorkamorka is the Games Workshop-game I have had the most fun with. It is not that balanced, a bit unclear on the rules from time to time and highly dependent on luck. Despite (or perhaps because?) of this, it is a really fun game to play.

  • @cjanquart
    @cjanquart 4 місяці тому

    I'm pretty sure some of the game design were "happy mistakes', as a the game was surprisingly balanced (except for Muties and Diggas). No real benefit for having a buggy or trak (truks with traks were a standard in our campaigns). Also fun getting run over or failing a boarding action and just standing up and dusting themselves off (none of that annoying pinning). Rules for the newer models would be nice.
    Converting was the most fun; my Nob would ride in a sidecar in a bike (along with an ablative/sacrificial yoof) that a had a large blade bit sticking off the fender (used a space marine attack bike sidecar as a chassis) that I dubbed "Da Knee-Cappa" as it was about knee high on an Ork (and was really handy getting experience for the driver). It did get a bit silly when you had a 'gunfighta' ork with two heavily modified six-shooters with rapid reload and other skills.
    One of our special scenarios was "the 600 toof ork" that was rampaging around Mektown shooting things up (pretty much an ork with a ton of bionics, we used a nob in mega armor as the model (repeated shots from a modified big shoota took it out). We wanted to do a fight against 'da metal fings' (Necrons) but never got around to it.
