    To me, as an engineer, a no-bezel design and glass back both mean one thing: more fragile. Don't be a sucker for what the marketers tell you you want. A polycarbonate back is both cheaper and better.

    Why wasting 1000$ on a phone? I don't play heavy games. I just want a phone that takes good photos, has a good battery and is fast enough in use. I don't understand people who want 1000 features if they don't really use them. People are too obsessed with material stuff instead of using stuff to make their life easier.

    Honestly though who really cares if a phone 'feels premium'... 99% of people, especially your average jo blo consumer, are gonna put a case or skin on the device and never take it off within an hour of unboxing the thing, i dont get why its such a huge point

    • @edssszy

      I bought one and the back feels really good in the hands compared to the glass ones. It actually feels premium and not cheap plastic. I bought the fabric case with it but i ended up returning the case coz it makes my hand sweaty lol. I like holding the pixel more without a case. Its my first android phone, tho i still couldnt give up my iphone the pixel 3a is a solid device. The camera is awesome. For its price its super worth it. 👍🏻😊

    Google pixel 3a owner here, I like the video, and let me share my views on the negatives he raised:
    - No water resistance. In practical terms this means don't submerge it in water, which I'd recommend you don't do for any phone anyway. It does withstand rain however. No wireless charging but charges really quickly and wireless charging is really slow anyway. I bought myself an Aukey 10,000 portable charger and it's better than wireless IMO. Using the original cord and turning the screen off you can get it to fully charge in around 80-100 minutes which is really good.
    - Plastic build, this means it's lighter and easier to grip. Most people keep their phones in cases anyway meaning that the build quality/feel of phones isn't that relevant.
    - Long-term performance. I've had this phone since it was released and I haven't had any drop in speed or performance
    - Storage and speed. It's not the quickest phone, but I honestly don't notice any lag. 64gb is small but you can back up all your photos on google photos. I have over 300 apps and I've still got around 20% space, due to the fact that bloatware is kept to a minimum. I've honestly found that size on a phone isn't a big deal as it's not hard to export photos/videos etc. The issue is can this phone hold a lot of apps. And yes, it can. I also haven't found the 4 ram an issue, I've often had up to 10 apps running and things have been okay. Try and keep the apps down if you can, but I'd recommend that for anyone trying to save battery life.
    - Physically unappealing. I think this is subjective. He mentions the presence of a bezel but I never really understood the fuss over that as it doesn't limit your screen when watching videos or the like. The bezel on the 3a is fairly intuitive to use anyway. I can fit 20 apps on my front screen which is pretty decent. It does have a google search bar at the bottom which may seem convenient or an annoyance depending on how much you use google search. Pop-up front-facing camera and front fingerprint sensor would be handy but a) the camera is amazing and b) the back placement of the sensor isn't too bad once you get used to it.
    This isn't a perfect phone. For it's price you shouldn't expect so. I'd highly recommend it for anyone looking for a phone in the $300-600 price range.

    the "out of the box appeal" part is quite subjective. bezel-less phones look cool for a while, but they are less comfortable to use, more misclicks, less surface to hold it comfortably. capacitive fingerprint scanners are more secure, though it would be better on the front or side. about the plastic: finally. it looks like Google finally understands that feeling fancy isn't the most important thing, and if they make it fancy, that also means slippery, which leads to cases, and if you put a case on it, then why did you need the fancy build anyway?

    I was about to buy the iphone 11, but honestly at that price I can't justify it, especially considering that it still has many issues in my opinion (subpar display, giant notch, no fingerprint reader, etc) so I think now I'm going to get a 3a to use for a year or two until I find a phone that I feel like is really worth investing in.

    I have to say that the 3a is working well for me personally.
    I love the rear fingerprint sensor!! It's FAST and ACCURATE when compared with the in display variants e.g. my last phone was a mate 20 pro voted best phone 2018 but that in screen fingerprint scanner was in my opinion THE worst feature.
    Please don't rush to loose the rear physical sensors they're much faster and more reliable!
    I think the weak link for the 3a is the battery life. But I'm comparing a 3000 with my mate 20 pro's 4100 which was amazing to be fair.
    My battery lasts a day or s little more with light use but heavy use can burn it down in a day.
    Other than that the phone sets up well for it's price and I love the stripped back no bloat wear current updates first concept a win win 👍

      @dbp2625 5 років тому

      Actually I think the battery life is really good, just the one from your old phone was insane lol, but I do agree that the fingerprint reader on the back is the most practical there is, except for maybe one on the side, but I can unlock my phone when it's face down on a table or in my pocket and that's just something an inscreen reader can't.

    • @stevedaly6826
      @stevedaly6826 5 років тому

      @@dbp2625 a fair point my friend. I was comparing the two which was probably unfair. Still hopefully the new generation of pixels might increase the battery life 😁

    regular security updates should have been on the list to (take note Samsung). I think they look great. I would have bought the Pixel 3a over the Pixel 3 if it came out sooner. I will be buying my wife one next week as I value digital security above all else; after all, our entire digital life is on our phones. It would suit her needs as she is not a power user and games will run fine on the hardware. My old Lumia 950 XL was plastic and it was a high end phone at the time. The Lumia could charge wirelessly despite it having a plastic back. My Pixel 3 is in a plastic case so I don't accidentally break the glass. I like the chin and forehead on the Pixel 3 as it gives me extra space to grip my phone while gaming. Cable charging is still better and more faster than wireless charging. Most people who will buy the phone wont care about the specs as the apps are miles behind the hardware in 2019.

    Fed up with people saying the 3a /xl take the same photo’s as the regular 3/ xl, they don’t...very close but not quite as good. I have both and have taken multiple shots on both to compare. Yes the 3a from new is a good price but if you can get the regular 3 XL second hand at about the same price as the 3a XL it is the better option. With ip68 ,better screen, wireless charging too. Don’t like the notch hide it in developer options. Of course if a headphone jack is a must the 3a is for you.

  • @PGHammer21A
    @PGHammer21A 5 років тому +4

    I've had my 3a since the first week of July. I chose it for three reasons - NONE of which had to do with the camera.
    1. The price is sane - it's $400USD full-tilt unlocked - which means you can take it to any carrier - in my case, I took it to Tracfone. (I like Tracfone as an MVNO, and I use T-Mobile's towers. I had no reason to move; with the 3a - unlike previous Pixels bought new, I did not have to!)
    2. The headphone jack. While it supports Bluetooth, it is not a requirement.
    3. No wireless charging. However, it DOES support rapid charging; in fact, it's the fastest wired charging I have ever experienced. (It's faster than the Samsung Galaxy S7's wired charging.) For that reason, it fits someone that has ZERO use for wireless charging, but wants long battery life on a charge. (I typically get between seven and eight hours of SOT on a full charge - that is two to three hours longer than the S7.)
    4. Lastly, it has longer AND stronger support than Samsung phones; with a Samsung phone, two major versions, and you're done. With a Pixel, We're talking three years MINIMUM. Remember, the original Pixel Phone started with Android 7 - but it got Android 10 as well.
    Note that the camera isn't mentioned - at all. When normally you seldom take pictures, why would the camera (app) matter?

    Watching this 14 months on (July 2020) this is no longer the case. I think the best budget smartphone when you consider what the package consists of is the Nokia 5.3. As far as I'm concerned the 5.3 is an amazing phone for the price - and it has an impressive length of time between charging. So are Nokia making phones people want to buy again? Yes..................are Nokia back? Yes.

    I love Google but they needed to have that unlimited ORIGINAL quality storage on 3A. Camera's good but they don't have enough storage capacity to store those good photos. I'm disappointed that HowToMen mistakenly said in the video and didn't even correct it that the 3A does NOT have unlimited original quality storage. It's the same that every Android phone which installs the Google photos app has - unlimited "compressed" quality storage.

      I noticed the difference trying them out at the store too. I was tempted by this phone, but I'm seeing that it's a bunch of hype. This phone is weak for the price. Should start a little lower on price. No SD card slot was one of the deal breakers for me. I need expandable storage or more than 64gb internal storage. Easier to crack front glass that costs over a hundred to replace... Etc, etc. I got an LG G8 for a little more and it's way nicer. S9 is just a little more and better than this phone as well.
