    Hi Graham. I know this video was 12 months ago now but I have just watched it. The 'Rear Cab Light' comes on a short while after the train has traveled a little, to simulate the conductor retiring to the rear cab to sort the tickets out after he has collected them. Love your recent video of Lakeside. I am rebuilding my layout and 'going' modern image too. I gained plenty of inspiration from you.

    Hi there I am a N-gauge modeler but luv your layout and your style, I found you after watching a Wardle rd video. I am myself re building a new modular layout. I have finshed the four boards, they are joined with dowels and catches. The idea much like you is so the layout can be taken apart if there is a future move. It is in a loft room I have the problem of cold in winter and too warm in summer. There is a air con unit in the room,my son left it when he moved out, but my last layout took up too much room to fit it in place, I have not made the same mistake this time. I have started watching your re build videos so it will take a week or two to catch up.

    Hi Graham. It now sounds a lot better and looks a lot better now you have done the weatheing, which is just about right without loosing the original body livery. It looks really nice running round the layout and you just cleared those container wagons in the nick of time, from a nasty knock. I agree with you about Anthony from Starathmore Road Junction, he has a very nice set up and he is also a really nice guy who I can gel with because, he comes across similar to me, when doing his videos. Also Ollie did a great interview with you and made a really nice video of your layout as well. I have since subscribed to his chanel and found his videos to be useful, as well as interesting to watch.
    So cheers for now buddy, catch you again soon. Bye for now......................Geoff

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  4 роки тому

      TRAM JUNCTION Hi Geoff, yes I think the weathering works well on this particular set, I did look at some 158’s in the Midland livery and some were quite mucky which is where I took my reference from. I just about saw those wagons in the nick of time and the 158 just brushed them as it went past so I was lucky there, I thought they were clear but looking through the view finder of the camera I could clearly see that they weren’t hence the hasty grab! 😂😂. I thought the interview with Ollie went really well, we both had a great time during the day running trains and then doing the interview which went on for about two and a half hours - good job he edited it down to 45 minutes! Anyway, speak later mate and cheers for now. ............Graham

    Superb job with the weathering Graham, looks spot-on.👌 I'm pretty familiar with these contraptions, as they're all we get up here, and they seem to attract a very specific type of gunge. Apart from the usual track grime/brake dust, there's a particular kind of sort of brown, powdery stuff that builds up exactly where you've got it. Various explanations have been offered but the smell makes it fairly obvious where the stuff is coming from.😩 You've really nailed the look. On other units, that would probably be quite heavy weathering but, for a 158, it's about medium.😁 They suit that livery too. Scotrail borrowed a few SWT units a few years ago(very similar livery) and I thought they looked pretty good. Nice job.👍
    Cheers for now,
    Dougie.

Is there a possibility you could work out a microphone solution as even with my volume at 100% the speaking is quiet in all of your videos. I hope you can take this as constructive feedback and I look forward to watching more of your videos nonetheless.

    Hi Graham- I have just watched the interview and very good it is too and I liked Ollie;s visit to StMicahels also. Can I pick your brains ? I noted you have not motorised the points in the Container Terminal as you say quite rightly you can reach them by hand without a problem. When I first designed my layout it had 12 points and without perhaps thinking it through I decided to go with Cobalt IP motors and bought the DCC Concepts Alpha Power Box and Alpha Central. I installed the points after making the Electrofrog Peco adjustments of removing the wires on the back of the points making a bridge and extending the frog wire ready for the motors.
    I have now made changes to the track plan and only have 7 points and as the layout is only 10ft X 8ft all points are easy to hand. I now wonder do I need to motorise them ( I have not bought the motors) or if I don't will I have to replace the points as I have at the moment a dead frog? The cost of new points would be half of the cost of the point motors and I would have to sell the Alpha Control at a loss no doubt. I would still keep the Alpha Power as it would give me a regulated power source to my NCE Powercab and I do intend to have Signals operated via DCC.
    If you were in my shoes what would you do.
    Hope you don't mind me asking. Cheers Kev

    Hi Graham from a HOT Down Under! Although cooler today, at least in this part of the country! Not so good for players at the tennis although the conditions today should suit them. I don't usually spend a lot of time watching tennis, but with the hot weather not allowing me to work on Hawthorn Valley, I spent most of yesterday (Friday) in font of the TV and with the A/C going fuller bore!
    I digress. Followed your advice and subscribed to Wardle Road. Quite an interesting interview. Well done to you both.
    Well, back to the layout today, much cooler than the 43 we had yesterday! Bought another loco off ebay last night. Have to see if it was worth it though, $AU20, plus $10 postage. Hopefully it will run OK. Will convert to DCC if ok. I was browsing on ebay for a few nights and added a few items to the watch list. Made a horrible boo boo and bid on one which expired last night. Tried to retract the bid with about 30 minutes left, but the seller was not forthcoming. So contacted ebay and sorted things out. But I was lucky that someone else bid with about 20 seconds left and beat my bid. Phew!! SWKB would not have been pleased!
    Well that's all from me now. I still intend to upload another update in the next few days, but I have to update credits for the update, to reflect 2020. ... Bye for now. ... Ian ...

    Ref to Cab Lights: if you can't set it up with the CVs Graham, you could put a mini diode in line to stop the electrical flow to that side of the LED circuit board. I was also thinking, to mask the sound of the wheels and to have background sounds on your layout. There are various units and sound files to download free if you do a web search for Sound Modules and their files, but the multi-channel units are expensive.
    You could have the individual background Sound Units (links below) playing away constantly with a switch or decoder to turn them on and off. They could be hidden in a building or wherever you wish around the layout. Even fixed under the baseboards and running extra cables to other speakers for a full 360 surround sound audio background feature. Any device that will let you play MP3 files in a random order like an old mobile, MP3 Player, iPad, iPod or mini system would do too.
    Edits:
    Noch range: You may like some of these but the spoken modules are not in English

    Hi Graham. I've just got the same model but it's really noisy and grumbly and a bit stuttery - can I ask which lubricant you used and did you put it just on the drive gears on the inner bogies and the outer bearing of the motor? Cheers, Adam

    • @adamoldridge
      @adamoldridge 3 роки тому

      Hey @@MattClarke83 - sorry for delay in reply - busy few weeks. The motor noise remains and seems to be part of it being a coreless motor setup, but I improved mine noticeably by putting in some Hob-E-Lube White Grease into the bogie gears (popped the underside cover off). This took off a lot of the noise.

    I bought this model and was disappointed on the intensity of the interior lights. I emailed BACHMANN and received this reply. On this SOUND FITTED model the passenger saloon lights are controlled by Function Key 9 and their intensity can be adjusted by first changing CV114 to a value of 239 and then changing CV60 to a value between 0 and 255 (255 giving the maximum intensity). Hope this helps anybody with the same problem. (Factory fitted decoder).

    Regularly see the 158's on my line between Norwich to Cambridge. Weathering is great, very similar to what I've seen in the real world. Funny really I've just received (In the last 20 minutes) two LNER J15's which I've had renumbered and weathered ( I'm too scared to do it myself). Do you find that the manufacturers are not oiling there loco's as much as they used too?

    Hi Graham. I was looking back at your videos today and discovered that I first found your site in Feb 2018, so I have seen quite a bit of the old layout and then your rebuild. I had to have a smile at the hissy fit you had over some of the comments during the rebuild. I expect to start the build on my first ever layout later this year. My plans are for a 1950's them., It is via detailed videos like yours that I have learned a great deal, so I thank you for that. When the construction starts I will start a UA-cam. I have a first page set up, another learning curve. I have turned all my research and plans into a blog, take a read sometime, I am sure you will have chuckle at my ramblings. … BTY ! before I forget... for some weird reason I seem to think I read that you once had a Nissan Figaro ? Take care Peter.
