    Graham, my dear friend, what a wonderful episode. I have followed your journey in this hobby since 2013 and every time, despite the various personal challenges that you have faced in that time, you continue to produce wonderfully informative and inspiring content. Thank-you👍🏻

      Hi John and thanks for the comment and I guess I’m further forward of being 100% completed on 50% of the work than being 100% completed on 10% of the remaining work! I’m a half filled glass person rather than a half empty glass person like your pal ! 😂😂. Cheers. ……….Graham

    Sorry I'm late to the party. Love the detail of the turn table area. Yes, the yard is small, but the important things are, it works and like it! This old bloke across the pond loves it . Bill from California

      @GrahamFoulston  8 місяців тому

      No need to apologise Bill, it’s just great to get a comment from you sir. The yard is small because of the limited space but it does serve its purpose for what I need so that’s the important thing. So from one old bloke to another, many thanks for the comment once again. 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers. ………. Graham

    I have been watching your channel a long time and it was difficult when you dismantled the previous Lakeside. Since observing you bringing lumber to the train room until now, it has been a journey watching a master modeler at work. Just when I think there is nothing left to add, you model a Heritage Yard. Wonderful work, and glad your eye is healing properly. Cheers from Long Island NY.

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  8 місяців тому

      Wow, thank you Mathew for that wonderful comment my friend, it’s truly appreciated! 👍🏻. I would never call myself a master modeller when I see all these other modellers around me showing their wonderful work they have created but thank you anyway, that’s a really kind thing to say. Yes, the eye is healing up very nicely now thank you, still not 100% yet but very close to it, once all the stitches have dissolved then it will be perfect. 👍🏻. Cheers. ………..Graham

    Test, test, test. It is tedious but not as bad as trying to find a fault in a large section of finished work. I unfortunately have done that a time or two. The area is looking good. cheers, Rob

      @GrahamFoulston  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Rob and thanks for the comment and yes, it does become a little tedious at times but I would rather that than do it all and then find I’m spending more time trying to trace a fault after it’s finished. But I guess we all have our different methods but like you, I have done the No testing method before and it didn’t end well. 😂. Cheers. ……….Graham

    Great video here Graham, excellent to see all the track work complete on this scene you have been working on, I’m not normally one for liking the green diesels although that has been changing recently but that scene with those diesels all in green did look great, the turntable and sheds look quite good and in fact hopefully someday when I start building my own layout I would like to have a big locomotive shed as a few weeks ago I managed to buy a card built 6 road engine shed, I know that it’s quite cheap of me to buy one pre built but at the time I saw it it just looked really good and I couldn’t resist, also because of a recent house move I wasn’t able to do much scratch building myself, overall some excellent work here Graham, good to hear your eyes are getting better, keep up the great work.

    Delighted you’re feeling better. Very impressive - would make a great stand alone shunting/switching layout as well. So sad to learn of ADM’s demise (the one I got - now sadly in pieces; don’t ask! - was superb!). Who do we use now?! Glad your wiring resembles spaghetti as well - even if only temporarily; mine never seems to get tidy (idea for a video, perhaps?!). Anyway, thanks for sharing. Shall look forward to return of the Gentry too.

      Hi Alex and thank you for the comment, it’s a shame that your turntable is in bits - is anything broken or just in bits - if just in bits then that could be put back together again and got going again. I don’t know who I would use now to be honest if I had to go to a different manufacturer, I have been spoilt by the ADM version. It might be worth contacting Alistair just to see if he can repair it for you although I do know he has no spare parts but he still might be able to put it back together again - just a thought. 👍🏻👍🏻. • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  8 місяців тому

      Hi Steve and thank you. I don’t know the name of the stepper motor or anything also to be honest, it all came complete as a unit, including the Peco turntable itself, but there is large PCB underneath which controls the brains of it plus a whole load of mechanical parts too. It has a tolerance of 0.4mm so it can stop anywhere within that tolerance making it very easy to align track no matter where it’s positioned. Sorry I can’t be of more help. Cheers. …………Graham

    Graham, first off and most important I am so glad your eye is coming along as well as it is👍👍.
    I was wondering why you didn't put in overhead lights in the main heritage yard??
    Something else I was wondering, what is going to happen to your LOVELY layout when in pass in MANY, many, many years to come??
    Once again SO happy for your eye !!! Love to Hazel too....

      Hi Warren and thank you sir, yes the eye is healing up very nicely now thank you, as regards the yard lights then I will be fitting them but not yet, I want to do the ground cover first so I’m not trying to work around them, once the ground work is done then I can fit the lamps and other details like people, scrap etc. When I pop my clogs then the layout will be broken up, if I know I’m going then I will hopefully be able to do it so as not to leave it for Hazel to sort out, but hopefully that won’t be for a little while yet. 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers. ………Graham

    HM Post Office could teach our mob of amateurs a thing or two about deliveries. A parcel posted on day one to Alice Springs from Adelaide went to Darwin, back to the mail centre in Adelaide. to three different locations in the suburbs and finally the Alice Springs where it sat for 10 days before we were notified that it had arrived. All up it was accepted by the addressee 27 days after posting.

      That’s really bad David, is it always as bad as that or just an exception? People moan about Royal Mail over here but I have always found them to be top notch and I’ve never had a problem with them, in fact I always ask if folk can post stuff to me by Royal Mail as I trust them. 👍🏻. Great update Graham as always and glad your eye is getting better. Just a quick question, how come the shed lighting went off with a buzz when the 24 left the turntable?

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Chris and thanks for the comment. The turntable is powered by the main bus from the track and lighting at the moment but I will be running a separate feed for that but just for testing purposes then it has served it’s purpose, so that will be resolved as soon as I put in its own feed. Hope that helps. Cheers. …………Graham

    Hi Graham. Nice work as always my friend. Can I ask you where you got the 00 gauge steam shovel from? I’ve been trying to source one for ages but can only find one and it’s in N gauge so no good to me! Regards Jim

      Hi Jim, to be honest I can’t remember where I got this from but I think it’s from the Oxford series of vehicles but not 100% sure on that, it was quite few years ago I got that. Sorry I can’t be of more help to you but you could always have a look on their website if you haven’t already. Cheers. ……….Graham

    Hi Graham, new to, your channel and enjoyed listening to your commentary and viewing the progress videos. Beautiful details throughout and a well planned design. May I ask what the length of your space is along the wall where the two skylights are and the depth across where the station is. I love the elevated street section, gives a lot more interest to the scene.

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  8 місяців тому

      Thank you my friend for the kind comment and the length of that one side is 16 feet and the depth is 3 feet. I was originally going to have another track on that elevated section but decided to go for a street scene instead which I’m pleased I did now. 👍🏻. Cheers. ………. Graham

      Thank you Graham for the feedback on the space dimension. I have a similar length room to work with, however my problem is the available depth to where I wanted to place my main line tracks with station and small classification yard. Having to make do with a small 16x16’ space with entry doors and closet access presents a good challenge. Your layout is a true inspiration as to what can be accomplished in limited space. Your layout is rich in every aspect, from buildings, details to the nice flow of track work. I’ll have to keep cracking on until I’ve found that comfortable compromise of form and function. Look forward of more videos from you! Cheers from Long Island, NY.

      @@rommel152 Well I think that is part of the fun, trying to establish the best possible layout for form and function without making any compromises yet still being practical. I spent quite a while measuring up for arm reach, height of boards etc before doing anything and it paid off. This layout works perfectly for me and my height but it was designed that way from the outset. Good luck in your new build my friend but most importantly - enjoy it! 👍🏻👍🏻

      Hi Graham, taking another look at this video and finding there is always something new to be found and learned. I was amazed to see that your space is very similar to my train room yet you are able to pack so much varied interest into the space. In particular I noticed that you city scape scene, you make use of shallow relief structures. That really frees up valuable space, something I need to learn. I see now and something that a layout designer was trying to tell me is that I need to consider cutting a lot of my kits in half, if not more to gain the precious space needed if I wanted to include other elements. I love your elevated station with the elevator and stairs going down to a lower level. You mostly see that with much larger, grand railroad name kits. Love that you created the perfect sized station to suit a small town that allowed for the elevator and stairs. That whole raised street level adds so much interest. The evolution of your layout is inspiring, keep up the great job!

      Thank you my friend for the kind comment, it’s greatly appreciated. 👍🏻. My local model shop in Peterborough is Trains4U, their website address is www.trains4u.com and if you click on that then that will give you the post code for directions and contact details should you wish to phone them. They are a great model shop with very helpful staff, they have their own test layout where anything you buy will be tested on there so both you and they know that it works ok before you get home. They have a huge and mouthwatering selection of new and used secondhand locomotives and rolling stock from various manufacturers so you should be well catered for. I hope that is of some help to you. 👍🏻. Cheers. ………..Graham

    Hi Graham loving this been waiting for the update .. just a quick question.. I’m building a similar yard to what your doing , what do you do with any rolling stock that is attached to the locomotive’s before the enter the yard and onto the turntable ? Regards Steve

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  8 місяців тому

      Hi Steve, the rolling stock would normally be uncoupled in one of the lanes to the left of the sheds, they would never be that long so as not to be able to fit. Once uncoupled the the loco is then free to go to the turntable and then to a shed or another siding. A lot which you see in the video would not normally be there so wouldn’t be as busy, I only showed them like that for the video so as to give a sense of what could be stored. Hope that helps. Cheers. ……….. Graham
