Don Miguel: txs for perfect explanations. I am doing this on Avuta TL'04 because leaky roof seems are soaking inferior when it rains on both fron/rear driver side. I needed to see those clips to gently pop them. 👍
You're the man! I used your video previously to install new shocks. Typed in tsx molding removal and you came up. Your videos are some of the best Ive seen. Clear, concise and great video. Thanks again !!
@@ChavezDIY I got the moldings off and definitely would have broken more clips without your info, I only broke one so I think that's pretty good. I plan on recycling the moldings as well and am wondering what strategy you used to get the paint off. I have been using a razor successfully in areas that were already brittle but not so much in less corroded areas. Any input is appreciated!
Glad it was helpful! This was my first time ever removing the roof moldings. When I took my car to an auto glass shop to replace my windshield I asked the guy how he removed the roof moldings and he didn't want to tell me, haha. I'm like, this can't be that hard, I'll figure it out.
@@ChavezDIY found out all the clips are different. They clip in the same but the height of the clips are different to follow the body line. Thanks for this really helpful tutorial.
@@mariocharles4353 Thanks for looking into the different clips. Okay, that makes sense. I have one that is broken so I will definitely replace it with the same color one.
Hi Miguel, I've just replaced the colored clips on my car, and I've noticed that different color clips have different widths. For example, the green one is much wider (as in reaches far deeper) than the pink one etc. Just thought I'd leave this here the next guy.
Hi Miguel, once again you're saving my behind with your DIY videos. One question, though - can you replace the colored clips without getting the whole side roof molding piece? Mine is in a decent condition but some of the clips are broken. Thanks for doing what you do, man!
Yes, you can replace just the colored clips. They're relatively cheap too. I need to replace one on my car. Make sure you get the correct color. Here's the website for an Acura dealer in Arizona www.oemacuraparts.com/v-2005-acura-tsx--base--2-4l-l4-gas/interior-bumper--molding
I believe you can replace the lower retainers. In the video description is a link to the page of an Acura dealer that sells the lower retainers. I don't have experience replacing the lower retainers. I believe the lower retainers are installed with an adhesive. So you will likely need heat (heat gun or blow dryer) and/or alcohol to remove the broken ones.
Hi, Yes, the roof molding is the trim piece that runs along the roof of the car (and down the sides of the windshield) with the rubber coating on it. It looks chrome in my video because the rubber coating has peeled off over the years with the hot sun. I removed the roof molding, painted it, and put it back on the car.
@@ChavezDIY oh! So you didn't actually order new moulding? Good to know. I have a silver '13 with chrome moulding and that rubber stuff is peeling and flapping all over. Wasnt sure if it was to be concerned about, I may jus discard for now until figure out a plan. Thanks for the info!!
@@cdrayt0n Nope, new OEM moldings are expensive and as the car ages I don't care much for buying new OEM parts. The peeling is nothing to be concerned about, I left it like that until I couldn't take the eyesore anymore, haha.
@@JRcaptured The roof moldings you see in the video are OEM. Yes, they have a small rubber lip on the side, most notably on the windshield portion. The top part of the roof molding doesn't have much of a rubber lip, but it sits down flush with almost no gap.
I did not buy replacement moldings. I painted my moldings and reused them but the paint is starting to chip away now. You can find some replacement moldings on ebay, which are cheaper than the dealer. The plastic molding clips I recommend buying from the dealer.

Thanks for pointing that out. Someone else mentioned that there is a difference between the colors and the way they fit.
Really helpful video! Thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome! This reminds me that I need to repaint my moldings =)
Is it possible to acquire the furthest back retainer mentioned at 0:55 ?
Yes you can get those clips in the upper rear. Check the video description, I have a link to where I bought my clips.
Looks good! What did you use/do to remove the rubber coating before painting?
Thanks! I used a razor blade and sandpaper. Most of it peeled off easily because the sun damaged the rubber coating.

Can the moulding on the top of the window be removed witout tqking of the side mouldings ?
Are you referring to the moulding at the top of the front windshield? Or the door mouldings on the top of the door window?
Hi is this where there is rubber looking trim running along? It that attached to the piece you replaced or is that seperate?
