Hello all!! It’s been brought to my attention that the sound is weird… I’m so sorry for that, the original video’s link is in my description… if it was bootlegged it could have altered the sound? 🤷♂️ again, my apologies!
Is that extra reverb coming from your sound set up? I have Audioboost on my PC, A Marantz Model 1070 Intergrated amp from 1977 and Philips 3 way speakers from 1978. But I never heared it with this much space and dynamic over my set up like you playing this song right now.
@@corneliusantonius3108 It's definitely from his setup, the original video he linked sounds correct, it's ONLY in his video that it has that extra reverb he mentions.
I'm sorry, but to me, this sound is awesome. Whatever equipment you are using is excellent. The reverb makes it that much better. Much clearer. Great reaction!
I came to the comments to follow the link to the video you reacted to. Sounded so strange from the beginning, and then you commented on "reverb." I'm thinking I've got the BluRay recording of this concert, and this is not how it sounds. I'm glad you caught on to this, and hope you take the time to view the official video from Nuclear Blast Records: ua-cam.com/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/v-deo.htmlsi=S9fmF2QiHdOpPd25
Hello David Brailey ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel: www.youtube.com/@gabriel.bardac/community 🤘
Thank you so much for your list and all the excellent information! I'm new to the "Reaction Content" genre, so any guidance for exciting content has my gratitude!! I'm looking forward to listening to all of it! Cheers!
@@DavidBraileyLive I hope this information about the band is useful to you. As for the list I'm promoting, it contains some of the band's best-known songs, and the recordings are of good audio and video quality, but it's not a mandatory path to follow. My goal is to present the new reactors with a bunch of options to continue. Nightwish fans will constantly come up with suggestions in the comments, some of them even more appropriate. Greetings from Romania!
@@DavidBraileyLive Subscribed. Great performance and reaction! I like your channel. If you would like to explore more and expand, may I suggest a reaction to BABYMETAL. Their music has a positive and uplifting message. They have a fun and awesome performance: BABYMETAL - PA PA YA!! (feat. F.HERO) (OFFICIAL) Or: MAYA【Live Blu-ray/DVD「BABYMETAL BEGINS - THE OTHER ONE -」"BLACK NIGHT"】 Or to showcase the lead singer’s amazing voice: BABYMETAL - Monochrome - Piano ver. / THE FIRST TAKE 🖖 ❤
Don't expect every Nightwish song to be like this. Every song is different and each one an adventure. Try any live performances from different concerts and you'll hear how versatile they are.
At one point, you mentioned she is 'dripping in reverb'. On the replay, I am picking up a 30-35 msec 'bounce'** that is not on the original. There might be a dry-delay bleedthrough on your mastering SW, or perhaps the L/R channels are a bit out of sync. If that's what you are hearing, it is not on the recording. It is happening in your post. NW generally records straight from the board, both pre and post the Protools driver that also syncs in all the orchestral tracks, the choir tracks, as well as the pyro and lights... it is a very tightly sync'd show. They also take great care to sync the crowd mics to prevent the 700 fps delay that plagues so many recordings' crowd sounds. Empuu's guitar is an ESP (custom) Marko (bass player and second vocalist) uses Warwick basses and Framus guitars (same company), usually using either this Warwick Vulture or a Vampyre. GREAT job with the commentary... it takes a bit of poise to keep up with the frequent key and meter changes in this song. Please tale a look at the list of suggested songs that Gabriel_Bardac just posted... they are very helpful for picking out the best recordings. As far as picking out the best songs? You must let your own ear be your guide. I might suggest either Storytime of Dark Chest of Wonders, both from this same concert. But the choice is yours, not mine. Cheers, from rainy, windy, western Oregon. ... time to go out and feed the sheep now for me, and bring in the night's firewood. Blind Doc Jones : Honorary Nightwish Medical Test Dentist, Mosh Pit Restoration Specialist, former engineer and one of the 30 or so folks involved in creating the first AED (the early 80's were a wild time in electronics, but that's another story). ** this might be a playback-only problem for me as a viewer... YT has some serious bugs in it's A/V sync code (former hwr/sw engr here.)
There was a slightly slowed blue tooth rip people were reacting to. I'm hearing a weird thing with the drums. I don't think this the original video. Sounds speed to me, no drive if that makes sense. Or I could be completely wrong. 😁
Yeah, I noticed the phantom reverb immediately and figured something was off. Oddly I found it pretty cool on Jukka's double kicks! But not on anything else. 😀
it's a reverb or a feed back loop in his recording software causing a delay between the audio of the original video and another source ( mic/headphone..) looped back in the final youtube vid.
Thank you all for explaining this, because when the music started is immediately wondered what was up with the drums. I just don't have the music knowledge to understand it, very interesting!!
Boy, are you in for a treat! Very nice reaction to an amazing performance. Gabriel has sent his definitive roadmap to this amazing band. Enjoy the ride!
Oh really. Is't the same that Marko's is sinning 2005? That I can hear that Tarja sings it more pure and higher (G6), but Marko is still mystery is it D, F or G.
@@Pertit-c1c The Floor-era version of this song is ending completely different than the Tarja-era version. The latter is completely missing the money note at the end.
@@gsparkman keep in mind that the sound from the Ziggo Dome concert is optimized in the post mix, but no auto-tune was used. And that every sound you hear from a broadcast company (Beste Zangers is owned by the Dutch NPO) is auto-tuned. It sounds more smooth and perfect, but I prefer the sound that is closest to the real sound🧐
Welcome to the wide and varied world of Nightwish. General Gabriel will be along to give you an indepth story of this wonderful band. Every musician in this band is an extremely talented professional and they all play for the song, making the whole greater than the sum of its parts. I hope you continue to explore Nightwish because any one song barely scratches the surface of what they can do. Each song is different, and there isn't a bad song in the bunch. I have a personal favorite "next song" and it is "Romanticide" live at this same concert - Wacken 2013. If you decide to do that one be sure to grab the video marked "correct speed". There is a lag problem with the official video. And, really, any song you choose to do next will be wonderful, that I promise.
Hi David, I’m just wondering, the reverb you said you’re hearing…., if you listened to the exact same sound we all just heard, I assume there’s something wrong with your audio settings, because there’s a quick delay, like a slapback echo, going through the whole video. And it’s best audible on the drums (fun fact, the delay seemed to be perfectly timed, so I can imagine you didn’t notice), but of course not JUST the drums. The whole video is affected by the delay and it does give impression of Floor singing with too much reverb. She’s not. Naturally, they did add reverb to her voice, but not more than they do with every other singer in the world. Just wanted to point this out. Not so much for the outcome of this video, but for future videos to come. especially in the 'old days' you could buy very expensive external sound cards for your system, but they weren't really that great, because they added compression, eq, delay, reverb or a mixture of all of these things to emulate certain sounds, so a 'simple studio recording' cound sound as if you heard it in a stadium for instance. so maybe that's what went wrong. could be something else, I don't know. I only know this wasn't how it's supposed to sound and mainly because of the delay over the original. ❤
Another Soul snatched by the Valkyrie Godess Dripping in Reverb ? I dont think so .....the video you chose seems to have a delay or an echo , even the drum kick and snare has that echo sound to it . Anyway welcome to NIGHTWISH and The Goddess Floor
Hi, David, Nightwish songs and performances always are huge and majestic. Every song you can feel in your heart, because the songs aren't just songs, they are something above...
"what else do you want?" Tuomas: yes. They can literally do it all 😂 multi-instrumentalist musicians and a vocalist with a range out of this world. Ghost Love Score is just the tip of the iceberg called Nightwish ☺️ I really hope you continue reacting to them, Wacken is a great concert to start
Hello David Brailey. Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. They are from Finland. And they make Symphonic Metal. What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Nightwish really hits you in your heart. And that's what makes this band so unique. Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch. There were 82,000 people there. I happily refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon) for a list with lots of song suggestion. Watch out for the Nightwish Army. Greetings from the Netherlands.
🤩👍💥💯🎼 The whole group is tight AF on stage, day by day, month after another, from year to year... Now that you've seen and heard The "corner stone"performance by them I kindly urge you to explore more of this magical band. Neat reaction män and keep on rockin with them. Cheers from Finland. 🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
I think you had a strange sound loop or other issue creating the reverb effect. There is actually very little reverb or slap on Floor's vocals. No worries. This might have been one of the slowed down Blu-ray videos out there? Check with Gabriel's list if you decide to react to more of this amazing band.
When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on UA-cam. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered UA-cam in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughter Freja (turns 7 years next march) and a newborn daughter Lucy ,a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.
Enjoyed your reaction! The audio seemed a little off. Kind of echoey. Not sure if it's on my end or the video you watched but no matter, I know the song intimately and I am here mostly for your insights and reaction which I found insightful and entertaining. Floor is an amazing singer. One of the most powerful and versatile singer's I have ever seen and heard. She is also a vocal coach and has a few master classes on her YT channel from during the pandemic. General Gabriel has already psoted with a little history of the band and a link to his master list of the best YT versions of Nightwish songs. Not a how to do Nightwish list but a resource to help you navigate the over 20 years of Nightwish music. Give it a glance and react to the ones that peak your interest. The Army will be here to follow and assist you in your journey as far as you want to go! Can't wait for your Epica reaction. Simone is another amazing Dutch female singer. She started out as a pop singer as a teenager but switched to studying classical singing after hearing Nightwish's first singer Tarja Turunen. She has one of the most beautiful voices. Lead guitarist, Emppu Vuorinen , plays a purple model of his signature custom ESP EV-1 (his initials) based on the ESP Horizon model and I think it has been the same one for over 15 years.
That was not just the synth sir, the London Philarmonic plays the classical background parts with a choir. Thuomas (Key's and composer) works with them often. Floor (singer/ Dutch) was not even a steady member here, stepping in for the other singer Anette(not that good). She changed this song and made it her own. We all loved it and we welcomed her with open arms. She is heavily trained, operatic, classical and she is a very HIGH soprano, but her range is inhuman.
Glad you mentioned Epica. Floor and Simone are friends! Mark Jansen, no blood relation to Floor, was the founder of Epica and was in Floor's first band! Check out "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" live and/or "Sancta Terra" live, from Epica Retrospect, to see Floor, Mark and Simone together! Emppu was playing an ESP guitar - the purple EV-1, which is his signature guitar. He used to play a white Nuno Bettencourt. The time signature for this changes a lot! Some 5/8 and 6/8 too! Jukka, the drummer, really gets a workout in his head as well as his body!..... and THAT was a Floorgasm! Nightwish Army, Blue Mountains Corps, Australia. Nightwish since 1996.
I was at this concert Alice Copper played before Nightwish and i was close to the front ! I had never heard of Nightwish so when they played i was near the back ! Floors voice really does carry i had no problem hearing her =)
thank you for taking my, and many other's, suggestion to try Nightwish and GLS. Hopefully this "taste" was enough to make your curiosity take you down the NW rabbit hole. They have a lot to offer from harder, more metal songs, to some more radio-friendly songs, to sea shanties to instrumentals, to 20 minute epic prog-rock productions. Easily one of the great bands of our time, one of the best singers of our time, and Tuomas (keyboards) who writes the majority of the songs and lyrics is called the Metal Mozart... one of the greatest poets/songwriters of our time. Almost 30 years of back catalog for you to choose from here. If vocals are your focus, I would recommend Shoemaker (live at Hellfest), Romanticide (from this same Wacken performance), or my personal fav, Dead Boy's Poem (live in Buenos Aires 2018).
Hey 😃 Nice reaction! Guitar is not Ibanez, it's a custom made ESP EV-1. ESP Horizon used as "prototype". EV is initials to guitarist, Emppu Vuorinen. 🤘😁🤘
Emppu Vuorinen plays a custom ESP EV-1 guitar, Marko Hietala the Bass player uses a Warwick Buzzard Bass, unless he is playing his double-necked Warwick Infinity/Panthera combo Bass and Guitar.
Yes, that reverb/delay is not in the original mix. That was added somewhere in the chain of your video process. That happens in some reaction videos, I have noticed. When you listen to Nightwish live recordings (or actually live) there is very little reverb effects in Floor's voice. I guess she just don't need that. They also have a lot of tracks to mix together, I guess extra reverbs would make the overall soundscape too cacophonic. That weird time signature you where wondering goes 6/8, 6/8, 5/8, 6/8. That is played right in the beginning and then later again with Floor's vocals added.
Nightwish Army Germany reports for Duty: What you should do: Listen to Gabriel. He knows. Great Reaction !! I think our Queen captured another soul….:-) It never gets old to see people freeze when our Queen starts to sing…. About Ghost Love Score: Standing solid as a World Pillar around which the planet revolves, Floor hits "The Note," the crowd loses their shit, the band tears a hole in the fabric of Space-Time, and 82,000 people will never, ever be the same again. Floor Jansen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Valkyries and Stonehenge, Lady of Nightwish and Protector of our Metal Realm. Long may she reign. Bow, mortal !
"is that 7/8?" No.. It could be read as 3 bars of 6/8 followed by a bar of 5/8, then going back to 6/8, or a bar of 12/8 to a bar of 5/8 then to 6/8, or a bar of 12/8 to a bar of 11/8. But 6/8-6/8-6/8 to 5/8 to 6/8 is the easiest way to count it. That same motif happens again when the band comes in except using 4/4 and 3/4. It's all up to interpretation (unless you have the tab or sheet music in front of you, then you absolutely know!), which is the beauty of Nightwish; the composition is ALWAYS up to interpretation.
Thank you for saying 12/8 for the part after the instrumental interlude. Every other reacter says 6/8 but I hear it as 12/8 also when one looks at the structure of it. You got me as a subscriber for this comment alone. 😊 Interestingly I looked for transcriptions of this piece and everyone of them had it in 2/4 which is really bizarre to me. I have no doubt my comments will start some conversations though lol! 😅
Emppu actually plays a custom made ESP guitar.....Marko, on bass, plays the Warwick "Buzzard" model in this show....it was designed by the late John Entwistle, the greatest bass player of all time....BTW, Floor stands just a tad under 6-2 in bare feet, and she's wearing 4 to 5 inch heels here.....she's the Valkyrie Goddess.......Tuomas Holopainen is the keyboardist, co-founder (in 1996), leader, guru, composer, lyricist, arranger, and producer of 95% of the bands music.....he's the Metal Mozart.....the audience here was an intimate little gathering of 82,000....this entire show is available on both DVD, and UA-cam, under the title of "Showtime, Storytime"......Nightwish Army, South Carolina, USA
Nightwish is a reference point group. Studio/Live singer era doesn't matter. There are other groups that are astonishing and in someways that hurts Nightwish because their consistent high level is expected. So much happens that subtleties fade even as they are essential. The guitar will lead the beat to give just a slight rush or drag to give and elongation even as the beat is a metronome. All of the musicians do these subtle augments. But if you want layers, it is time for Wintersun, Jari is infamous for needing processing power to catch up so the songs can be mixed.
There is some 5/8 and 6/8 timing in that song but most of it is 4/4. I've been a professional percussionist for over 40 years.. plus ive got the sheet music for this song.
Hi, that was a fun reaction. I like to react on your input and not so much with a to do list... 😅 It is nice to see someone not bothered with ticking all the boxes, posing in open mouth stills and not be real. You appreciate things from a musicians view and tell us about this in an entertaining, meaningful way. That is great to watch. Good luck and enjoy in your travels in symphonic metal!
Nice reaction, apart from the strange reverb, which is not on the original video. Epica did a concert with a live symphony orchestra and choir. In that concert is a song called 'Sancta Terra' ft. Floor Jansen.
Live chorus and symphony?: You mean Epica's Restrospect-concert they did for their 10th anniversary? Being a Floor-fan, I would recommend the song Sancta Terra from that concert.
❤ WOW ❤ Another fan of pure music - welcome to the world of Nightwish. Hopefully you will try more - my suggestion for next: Storytime (Wacken 2013) and/or the list of Gabriel Bardac…
Don't worry about the sound, we all now this song. Just seeing a singer react to the amazing voice of Floor is always great to see. Looking forward to more Nightwish, there is plenty to react to.
If there is a choir (and there is), it is always better live. It's just not feasible to move around the globe with 2 choirs and a symphony orchestra. But if they could, they should.

Floor Jansen (BTW pronounced Yansen, with the a like you hear it in "bus") is an amazingly gifted singer. You have already seen her as the last performer in your Ayreon video. Arjen Lucassen has worked with her when she was only 20, he had already seen her potential at that young age. That was way before she became famous.
Wacken 2013 starring Nightwish and co-starring the 80,000 is..wow!! The energy this band always creates with their crowd connection is incredible!! Welcome aboard the Nightwish express. It takes you away. You don’t know where they’ll take you but you know it going to be friggin’ epic every time . Sensory overload….and Floorgasms..NW style!!
Hello, great reaction, I have the honor to welcome you on behalf of the Nightwish Army, stick to the information and list Gabriel, greetings from Poland
At 13:51, welcome to the world wide club of Floorgasm! Yes, I was floorgasmed the first time I saw this performence! Nightwish one amazing band with some really talented muxicians!
I think even the aliens on the other side of the galaxy felt the sonic wave from her final note. Jesus! That woman makes you fall on your knees and thank the gods even if you are an atheist😂
You've discovered the amazing Nightwish (so please react to more of them), but also in the future, you absolutely must go down the rabbit hole that is Japanese all-female metal bands. I'd suggest you start with LOVEBITES, arguably THE most musically talented metal band on the planet. Choose any of their recent live videos as your starting point. This will also bring the "Wolfpack" (LOVEBITES fans) to your channel.
Great review, David! Love the musical analysis for someone like me who doesn't know that level of detail. And I am glad you found this group. They have so many epic pieces. I hope you find to explore their works more. And one more thing, don't take this observation as a negative but as any told you that you look at bit like Rob Schneider? :)
You might want to check the recording or the playback on the audio because the one that got fed to the review you posted had a substantially larger amount of reverb then you can hear when you play it back in a system such as my own. I watched a lot of videos like this and they all had a much less intense reverb in there so unless they completely remastered this with the intention of making it sound like the live that would be something that's changed in the recent releases of this performance

Welcome David, you're in for a journey if You dig into the rabbit hole of Nightwish and all Symphonic Metal. Despite the sound echoing (or looping) that we experienced, I hope that was only on our side? The best wishes for more Nightwish reaction and remember "LIVE" is the best way of enjoying Nightwish. Just follow Gabriel Bardac's list and enjoy! Regarding the guitar of Emppu Vourinen: He exclusively uses custom ESP EV-1 with Seymour Duncan pickups. EV stands for Emppy Vuorinen. The symphonic elements are recorded by London Philharmonic Orchestra, which Nightwish has used for aged now. The line-up for this concert was: - Tuomas Holopainen, keyboards and master composer - Floor Jansen, vocals - Emppu Vuorinen, guitars - Marko Hietala, bass (left the band in 2021 due to personal reasons) - Replaced by Kai Hahto's bandmate from Wintersun, Jukka Koskinen - Jukka Nevalainen, drums (had to leave to due to his insomnia problems and migraine for many years) - Replaced by his old friend and mentor Kai Hahto - Troy Donockley, Uillean Pipes, Tin Whistle, Low Whistle, Guitars, Bouzouki, Bodhrán and vocals (Not present on this song)
Yeah, OK, the band have two generational talents in the keyboardist/composer and vocalist, but I think that special kudos should be given to Floor here for, (mostly:), keeping her hair under control - it has a habit of taking over the performance during some songs:). Maybe she overfed or drugged it for this storytelling masterpiece?
13:33 The Floorgasm brings yet another convert to the family !! 😁 Welcome Brother. You are one of us now. Just FYI, that’s about 70 minutes into the show, and Floor had been killin’ it the whole way already. Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. I love watching these reaction videos and my biggest hope is that people follow and enjoy the Symphonic Metal path I was led to. Welcome to it. Thanks for actually pointing out the reverb. I've heard this anomaly on other reaction videos but thought, perhaps, they had the video sound both in the room with them, and fed through the system, creating that doubled up effect. Given that you're clearly wearing in-ears, that confused me a little, till you said reverb. You were hearing what we were. Now I know it's actually an audio error that must be happening somewhere in the recording programming for reactions. It really wasn't bad for a listen, but I do find it muddies the sound a bit if you're really listening for intricacies. Casual listening, it's fine. Just different. :)
great reaction David, thanks from Colorado. so 1 song you liked. cool. not even their best but one of, tip of the iceberg. o . I`m sure Gabriel will be along soon withmore from this concert like storytime, romanticide
It may seem like just a patch for the Orchestra but Tuomas the keyboard player uses recordings from London Philharmonic Orchestra. You get to see some of them in action with this song he done with his wife Johanna The life and times of scrooge mcduck by Don Rose. That song is called: A lifetime of Adventure. Worth a looksee. Thank you
LoL nice. The note the Valkyrie Goddess absolutely NUKES at the end was an A♭/G# 5 . I know others have told you about the echo in the sound, I wonder if you were hearing the same echo, possibly throwing your perception of the time signature off. They change time signature in this song a number of times, doing a bunch of really neat things with it, but it's mostly playing between variations on 6/8 (early on you'll hear phrases flow through 6/8, 5/8,68, etc), and straight 4/4. Tuomas is a mad scientist with progressive time signature and key change flow, just a master of making it seem natural. Welcome to the Rabbit Hole!
Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! 6'1'' Dutch Valkyrie Goddess spotted ! Gabriel Bardac entered ! This is called Symphonic Metal !!! Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6). She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. And the master of this magic is: Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish) Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot. This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people (one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany). The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival. We hope, that there is more coming. NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.
1:41 In addition to all the true and beautiful things that have been said about the band and Floor and Tuomas, the main composer - I want to applaud your mentioning of Schubert in this context, even if it was relatively random, or subconscious. For some reason, a faction of NIGHTWISH fans call Tuomas "Metal Mozart"; aside from the alliteration, I don't know why. Unless (a possibility) not everyone knows enough about Classical styles. For this listener, if Tuomas Holopainen "needs" to resemble anybody in the Classical tradition, it would truly be Franz Schubert, the genius of melody and nocturnal shades, of existential sadness and joyful abandon, and of the over 500 dramatically but gently set Lieder. Mozart sure was way "deeper" than he could seem to the uninitiated, but there is just not enough NIGHT(WISH) in the "Little Night Music". :)
@@RokNDragon THANK YOU, I tought I went a bit bonkers and I started to question my 70ties HiFi Audio set up.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer.
So be prepared. lol "

It's the best thing about Nightwish, just when you think you know what your gonna get they hit you with a curve ball.
I think the best motto for Nightwish is: "Every Nightwish song is differently majestic". It is so true.
Empuu's guitar is an ESP (custom)
Marko (bass player and second vocalist) uses Warwick basses and Framus guitars (same company), usually using either this Warwick Vulture or a Vampyre.

I could have saved me a lot of typing. There’s a delay for sure. 😂
it's a reverb or a feed back loop in his recording software causing a delay between the audio of the original video and another source ( mic/headphone..) looped back in the final youtube vid.
Thank you all for explaining this, because when the music started is immediately wondered what was up with the drums. I just don't have the music knowledge to understand it, very interesting!!
Not an Ibanez, it's an ESP EV-1. The EV stands for Emppu Vuorinen, the guy playing the guitar. 😊
Who??? Emppu? Oohhh...you mean one of 'the' best guitar players worldwide?!?
Boy, are you in for a treat! Very nice reaction to an amazing performance. Gabriel has sent his definitive roadmap to this amazing band. Enjoy the ride!
hhm it is my opinion or your soundcheck?everyry paddle and floors voice i heard twice...
Yes, the sound comes through twice, at a slight delay that was also clear in "Everybody dies"
Brings me to tears everytime I hear her voice
welcome to symphonic metal brought to you by Nightwish
In the 2022 live performance of The Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort Floor carries the final note at a D6 for 12 seconds.
Frankly, I think the performance Floor and Henk did on the 2019 Beste Zangers is better. It is, at least, my preference.
I totally agree, then Marco and Tarja 2005 2nd.
I, too, noticed the weird echo/delay effect on the drums. Some software butcher has attacked it. It wasn't too bad, just slightly annoying:)
Sounds like OBS recording 2 audio streams on top of each other and one being delayed for a couple of ms. It shouldn't really sound like that.
Another Soul snatched by the Valkyrie Godess
Dripping in Reverb ? I dont think so .....the video you chose seems to have a delay or an echo , even the drum kick and snare has that echo sound to it .
Anyway welcome to NIGHTWISH and The Goddess Floor
Hi, David,
Nightwish songs and performances always are huge and majestic. Every song you can feel in your heart, because the songs aren't just songs, they are something above...
"what else do you want?"
Tuomas: yes.
They can literally do it all 😂 multi-instrumentalist musicians and a vocalist with a range out of this world. Ghost Love Score is just the tip of the iceberg called Nightwish ☺️ I really hope you continue reacting to them, Wacken is a great concert to start
You're going to be shocked at the variety of sounds this band has explored

🤩👍💥💯🎼
The whole group is tight AF on stage, day by day, month after another, from year to year...
He linked to the proper, official video on Nightwish's channel, so it must be some software issue on his end.
Sadly all instruments are echoing. :(
When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time.
There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’
Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band.
:) , told you on the Ayreon reaction
welcome to Nightwish, i guess/hope you will do more reactions to them
That was not just the synth sir, the London Philarmonic plays the classical background parts with a choir.
Welcome to the world of these amazing band
Hey 😃
Nice reaction!
EV-1 for Emppu Vuorinen
Yes, that reverb/delay is not in the original mix. That was added somewhere in the chain of your video process. That happens in some reaction videos, I have noticed.
When you listen to Nightwish live recordings (or actually live) there is very little reverb effects in Floor's voice. I guess she just don't need that. They also have a lot of tracks to mix together, I guess extra reverbs would make the overall soundscape too cacophonic.
That weird time signature you where wondering goes 6/8, 6/8, 5/8, 6/8. That is played right in the beginning and then later again with Floor's vocals added.

About Ghost Love Score:
Standing solid as a World Pillar around which the planet revolves, Floor hits "The Note," the crowd loses their shit, the band tears a hole in the fabric of Space-Time, and 82,000 people will never, ever be the same again.
Floor Jansen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Valkyries and Stonehenge, Lady of Nightwish and Protector of our Metal Realm. Long may she reign. Bow, mortal !
Pandora's Box is open 😂🎉❤
Thanks
Nice reaction! Sounds like you've got both the direct sound AND audio picked up by your microphone - that might account for the echo...?
love your reaction to this wonderful band. you will find every song different and diverse, thanks! NWA checking in
Thank you for saying 12/8 for the part after the instrumental interlude. Every other reacter says 6/8 but I hear it as 12/8 also when one looks at the structure of it. You got me as a subscriber for this comment alone. 😊
Interestingly I looked for transcriptions of this piece and everyone of them had it in 2/4 which is really bizarre to me.

Welcome to the magical world of Nightwish!
Enjoy your Nightwish journey and Epica. Greetings from the Netherlands
I think Emppu plays ESP Horizons, probably signature models.
I agree!!
I concur ❣️🤘🇳🇱🤘
A word I often hear when introducing people to Nightwish is "dramatic" but "epic" is even better for GLS!
Greetings fromThe Netherlands
Welcome to the magical world of nightwish best live band on the planet imho x more soon please
❤ WOW ❤ Another fan of pure music - welcome to the world of Nightwish. Hopefully you will try more - my suggestion for next: Storytime (Wacken 2013) and/or the list of Gabriel Bardac…
Welcome on board, or should I say: down here into the rabbit hole from which none wants to get out. Greetings from the Nightwishland a.k.a Finland 🇫🇮
Heavy Metal was never a boring Music
the Guitar Emppu is using is his signature EV-1 from ESP
Don't worry about the sound, we all now this song. Just seeing a singer react to the amazing voice of Floor is always great to see.
Looking forward to more Nightwish, there is plenty to react to.
Welcome to Nightwish! If you choose to jump down that rabbit hole, I promise, you won’t be disappointed. Nightwish Army NY
ESP guitar not Ibanez
ESP EV-1 (channeling my inner Tank the Tech 😊)
They don't need a live chorus, they have a Floor.
If there is a choir (and there is), it is always better live. It's just not feasible to move around the globe with 2 choirs and a symphony orchestra. But if they could, they should.

Thank you for reacting to Nightwish! 🤘😀
Something screwy with your sound....there's an echo in the music.
Music does a bit disturbing echo as it plays from speakers.
The guitar is ESP. The bass is a Warwick.
I believe our Valkyrie Goddess has captured another human soul.
Hi welcome to Nightwish a wonderful diverse band, hope you decide to continue your journey, great reaction 🇬🇧
Nightwish is so unfair! Tuomas has the best musicians and vocalist possible, and his songwriting and arrangements are the best! 🤘🎸
Oooooo!!!!
Ed Grimly does Nightwish? Gotta love it! ;)
".....Oboe in the back.." ... OK, so I'm not crazy, eh? {at least about that ? ;P }
🤗🍒🤘🏻 well done and welcome to the Nightwish familie
1 more nightwish fan . welcome :)
Theres a bad audio version which slowed the song by a tick and. This was painful to listen to if you know the song.
❤
The line-up for this concert was:
- Tuomas Holopainen, keyboards and master composer
- Floor Jansen, vocals
- Emppu Vuorinen, guitars
- Marko Hietala, bass (left the band in 2021 due to personal reasons) - Replaced by Kai Hahto's bandmate from Wintersun, Jukka Koskinen
- Jukka Nevalainen, drums (had to leave to due to his insomnia problems and migraine for many years) - Replaced by his old friend and mentor Kai Hahto
- Troy Donockley, Uillean Pipes, Tin Whistle, Low Whistle, Guitars, Bouzouki, Bodhrán and vocals (Not present on this song)
Subbed in hopes of more Nightwish!!!
Welcome to the magical world of Nightwish and Floor Jansen, The Goddess Voice of Heaven and Earth. Enjoy your journey.
A breathtaking masterpiece sung by a Valkyrie Goddess… or what Nightwish thinks of as just another day.
💙💙💙All Hail Floor !! 💙💙💙
Infantryman-Nightwish Army. US Regiment. Kentucky Battalion
RIP Ann Waychoff-Commanding General-Nightwish Army
This is the holy trinity of Nightwish songs live with Floor fronting...
Ghost Love Score live at Wacken 2013 ua-cam.com/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/v-deo.html
Greatest Show on Earth live at Tampere 2015 ua-cam.com/video/45brzDJKZ3o/v-deo.html DO NOT CUT THIS OFF EARLY. The Nightwish Army is Murderous behind this Sin. Be Warned. 😏
The Poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley 2016 ua-cam.com/video/gbn9GczYBkw/v-deo.html (wait until you have a full understanding of the band’s history before you react to this one. It’ll add the context you need to fully appreciate this emotional masterpiece.)
Such a shame you found a duff recording for your first experience. The clarity of Floor's vocal is a force of nature.
Back when people would enjoy concerts with their hearts and be in the moment rather than watching it through the tiny screens in their cell phones.
great reaction David, thanks from Colorado. so 1 song you liked. cool. not even their best but one of, tip of the iceberg. o . I`m sure Gabriel will be along soon withmore from this concert like storytime, romanticide
Good one.
And the master of this magic is:
Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish)
Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics.
As a pro singer it would be very interesting to react to Devin Townsend - Kingdom and Jinjer - Pisces
