    Refrigeration tech here, this is a great solution. I have brought up the ice chute to my supervisor a few times with pics of water scale and was dismissed. I fix that every time anyway and never get call backs on the same frige for it. The hvac aluminum tape is genius! I’ll be swapping over to this myself.
    Samsung needs to see this video, I will be sending this out to all the guys I work with.

      Thanks for the comment 🙏🏼! Yes, it was through some serious thought process that I figured out the best solution for this issue. I shared this information with all my fellow techs, and they have also had success in most of their repairs. I've also given this information to Samsung tech support agents. However, I never knew how to get ahold of the person who can make a difference in the field.

      We are new homeowners and our fridge is doing this. We can't wait to do this. Our Ice Master has a date of 8-31-2018. Should we get replacement parts in addition to the steps you suggested? We still get ice in the freezer part of fridge which is crazy. 🤯 Thank you for going slow and step by step so the average person can do this at home.

    My ice tray was frozen in place. I had to use a hair dryer and Force Defrost Mode a few times to melt enough of the ice to free it up without breaking it.
    A hair dryer is the quickest way to melt the ice without unplugging the fridge.
    Now time to do the rest... Im fukn tired of buying bags of ice. every few days 😡
    Uninsulated ice box inside of the refrigerator compartment, good job Samsuck 👍🏼

    Awesome help. Here's a suggestion to make the flapper de-scaling easier (without disassembly). Heat up a glass of vinegar to about hot coffee temperature (no boil) in the microwave. Put a rag and some bowl under the external dispenser. Pour the vinegar into the chute on the inside of the door. Let it sit for a minute or two to remove the scaling (it may actually run out slowly if the flapper has a lot of scaling). You can use a tiny brush on the inside to speed up the process. Repeat with another glass of vinegar if necessary. Mine only took one. Important is that the vinegar is hot, which speeds up the process significantly. Make sure the rag is big enough as the vinegar will come out a lot of different cracks.

    Great detailed video. I just viewed it, and have not tried it out yet, but I certainly will try it. Thank you, Guru, for finally trying an out of the box solution!
    UPDATE: I have a slightly different model, and I just did the tape fix. I will update again after a test period. Also, being far less familiar with the inside of the cavity, I found the following tools helpful:
    > stubby straight blade screwdriver to assist in loosening the electrical connections;
    > LONG (24") straight blade screwdriver to hold up the auger retaining clip while removing it ( I found that the entire auger assembly had to be lifted slightly, not just the tab.) and;
    >battery operated headlamp to help in viewing the back of the cavity.
    Thanks again, Guru!

      Update on the "50%" off promotion: Anyway to summarize, our ice maker has been broken since 2014 and had been worked on by Samsung technicians a few times. I was able to have them try one more time to make repairs last month. The technician was not able to repair the ice maker so Samsung offed a 50% code for the purchase of a new fridge but we could only order from their website. here is the catch: The 50% off is only for full price items on the samsung website. So one goes to the samsung website and see a new fridge for $2000 BUT...in fine print it has the full retail price underneath. Full retail would be like $3799. keep in mind the 50% off is only for the item and not set-up, deliver, tax etc. So samsung is a total BS company. Do yourselves a favor and take the $250 cash offer and look at other brands at Costco or Sames. They offer a 3 yr warranty as well. One can get a really nice fridge for $2000. You would come out about $100 ahead using the 50% coupon, trading in your old samsung vs just buying from Costco. Both have a 3yr warranty, install is free and haul away. With the $250 cash coupon you could use it at Costco and get it for abut the same price plus you earn abut $60 in rewards

    2015 model and have been beyond frustrated with this horrific ice maker. Found your video last Monday (Apr 1, 2024) and sent it to hubby. We ordered the clips for the freon tube from that place we all order from (LOL) and bought the aluminum tape.
    It took HOURS UPON HOURS for the ice maker to thaw (and yes, we did what you shouldn't do and had a blow dryer on cool to help it along.
    Today hubby and son-in-love #3 did the bulk of the repair and I did the aluminum tape. We're about 6.5 hours post repair and I just heard the first batch of ice drop!

Every time we tried to get ice, water would dump out of the ice chute and the ice would come out all chopped up from freezing together in the bucket. Now perfect ice and no water. Thank you !!! Water overflow and splatter from the water dispenser in the back was causing the freeze up on my fridge. I just replaced the ice maker and mother board, Samsung recommends replacement if it's a 2019 or before. Same process to replace the ice maker as in your video so thanks. Upgrade probably has better control of the overflow., works like a charm now. Parts are a little pricey, around $300.

    NO MORE ICE TRAYS! After having this ice maker problem from almost day one of owning the Samsung fridge, your easy to follow fix has been working perfectly for last 4 weeks. In the past when we would defrost the ice maker, the issue would show up again in just days. Also I would have not even thought to check the seal on the flapper and of course ours was pretty crusty. A tip for others...the foil tape can be a pain to work with, but I found to work with smaller sections, maybe 2-3 inch max makes it a little easier to place. Thanks big time!!

      If your refrigerator doesn't have the Y clips, you should add them. If your refrigerator already has the Y clips just use those. Samsung claims that the White Cliffs will help heat transfer from the heater that's underneath the ice maker to help defrost the freon lines. I find it to help but it doesn't solve the issue

    Great video. We had our ice maker repaired about 3 years. It has always dripped a little water both inside and outside the fridge. The HVAC did the trick but I also made sure that the fridge was leveled properly as per Samsung stating the fridge should not be resting on slide wheels. I ended raising the front of my fridge over 1/4".

I followed this step by step and NO PROBLEMS for over a month now. If you’ve got this fridge - do this! Thank you so much

    Bro I done everything in the video just like you did and so far so good. Now there was a couple more things that I also did which was on the outside of the icebox I took this white boxing tape which matched the white color inside and I taped up near the ceiling and at the back and underneath the the icebox and so far it hasn’t completely frozen up all over like it did before. And also at the back of the refrigerator up at the top where the water line goes in the back of the fridge I also put silicone all around that, and while I had the refrigerator turned out to where I could access the bottom of the refrigerator I removed the panel at the bottom and oh my God !!! Dude the compressor cooling fins were completely caked over with dog hair, it was awful. But I used my shop vacuum and I cleaned everything really well. You have to be extremely careful and delicate with the aluminum fins on the cooling lines because they can get dented. You definitely don’t want to think that you’re accomplishing one thing but come to find out that you burned up your compressor when you unintentionally dented those delicate fins on your cooling lines. Also while I had it unplugged I took a damp washcloth and cleaned the fan blades on the cooling fan and I took those two drain hoses off and cleaned them up also and then reinstalled them. I’m so glad that I done that, because I sure as hell don’t want to spend the money to purchase another refrigerator right now if I can possibly avoid it. Getting back to the icebox freezing over with ice everywhere, there was another guy that completely took the icebox motor apart and replaced this hose that’s supposed to heat it and then he replaced the computer chip board and then put it all back together then he took that other big panel off and then replaced the big control panel and put a new one in. I’m like fuck all that bullshit. That’s the last resort if all else fails. Until then all that I spent was getting that roll of aluminum ductwork tape and then I taped up the inside of the icebox and then on the outside I put that white boxing tape and so far everything is working perfectly. Thanks for making your video. I’m confident that it has saved me a ton of money for now. Hopefully as long as it will last. Who knows, these refrigerators that they are making are complete junk

      I give all the props to the appliance guru and hope he gets lots of hits because he made a fantastic video. I will say, I almost made this repair and was looking in my fridge manual to see if there was any extra information on this. The section I flipped to said to call Samsung support. I called them and told them my ice maker was frozen. They got the serial number and said my fridge was out of warranty but they would send someone to fix it free of charge (5 minutes on the phone tops). They called a local appliance repair shop and had them call me to confirm an appointment time. I found out from the repairman that Samsung finally fixed this issue and is replacing almost the entire ice machine free of charge because it costs them less money than having multiple technicians troubleshoot and travel to repair. At the very least, I would take 5 minutes to call Samsung before making the repair.

    One quick thing - when you're working on plastic, especially in a fridge - head up all the clips so they're a bit more flexible. A hairdryer works a treat if you dont have a heat gun.

    Best video I’ve seen on this. We’ve had one of these refrigerators since 2017, we gave up on the ice maker by 2018. Thanks for putting this together. Nice job with the camera angles, sequence and staging. This results in simply showing how it’s done and not spending our time yammering. The other videos I’ve seen on this have been a struggle to watch past 30 seconds, but fortunately that’s about how long it takes to figure out whether they know what they’re talking about or not. Hopefully we’ll have ice by sometime tomorrow .

      @@theapplianceguru I forgot to post my update: I followed all the instructions for a full defrost, and it really did have to sit for about 24 hrs before that ice bucket thawed and was removable. I didn’t do the aluminum taping. Just thawed, dried and then made sure to make ice every day. Every day I take the ice bucket out and dump it. Our problem was we didn’t use the ice maker during the first winter, that’s when it froze. It’s been working great since that first post, and I figure if it hasn’t frozen up yet, it probably won’t

      Great news. We purchased out $2700 samsung fridge in 2015. The ice maker has been a constant headache. I heard on a blog that samsung is now offering warranty replacement o your poorly designed ice maker. I called the 1-800-samsung number, gave them my serial number and model numbers and sent some pics. I am scheduled for a complete replacement of the etire icemaker, drawer, mother board and other items all covered under warranty, It is worth a try

    I feel the need to comment! It’s been almost 3 months since I watched your video and did exactly what you recommended plus a little…
    Let me explain, my Samsung fridge is over 7 years old and I’ve been battling the ice maker for the better part of 4 years! With a full replacement from Samsung, the silicone sealing, defrosting for days at a time etc…. And to this point the fixes only lasted a couple months at best. I watched this video ant thought, why the F not! I’ve done everything else!!!!
    So I defrosted my whole fridge and followed your recommendations, plus pulled it from the wall, cleaned the back (I do this one’s a year anyway) annnnnd, now this is what you don’t have in your video, pulled off all the little drain tubes in the back and to my surprise one of the tubes dropped close to a litre of water on the floor! Clearly it was not draining properly.
    So after all this and your recommendations, it’s been working perfectly for 3 months. So today I decided to have a look and pulled out my ice maker. I am very happy to report zero build up, it looks pristine inside.
    I’ll check back in a couple months and report any changes if any.
    Thank you!

    • @theapplianceguru
      @theapplianceguru  7 місяців тому +1

      Hey sir thank you for commenting! Correct there should be three tubes for draining in the back one drains your evaporator in the refrigerator the other one drains your evaporator in the freezer and the last one drains the ice maker. The one that clogs up the most is typically the one for the refrigerator. I'm glad it's worked out. Keep in mind you do have to clean out the ice shoe flap every once in a while to keep it from building calcium and limescale. And if your refrigerator stays open for an extended period of time make sure you wipe down the inside of the ice maker

    Very good video. Besides waiting on the thawing out, it was fixed in 30mins-hour and running with no issues. I only needed to add the tape and it resolved my issue. Basically it would slowly start to freeze up but it also started spitting water out of the trap door every time we didn’t get ice for a bit. And then eventually just not work.
    Hardest part was seeing a screw on the right side of the upper ice maker that was unreachable. It also coincides with the cut of him pulling out without the camera. You leave it. Also, with the ice bucket. I used the tape on the outside of the small crack we had. Figured why not. Haha. Again thanks for the video.
