The Last Circuit.
I think the 996 front end looks great particularly with the GT3 bumper. I don't give a crap about what others think. But I am biased of course.😂
You're not the only one who thinks that, great minds think alike sir!
I have searched for the gt3ish vanity plate lol. I have a 2003 C2 manual with an LN 4.0L conversion, Cargraphic FBO, GT3 TB, IPD Plenum, BMS air filter, 997 C2S wheels, 997 SSK, full aero and bilstein suspension. Bananas.
The illusive 4.0L displacement. I bet that's a riot to throw around
@@RoadsUntraveled The measuring contest, you mean ;)
It’s all about your end goal deciding between GT3 and GT3 driving experience. I have a similar story with my ‘99 996; engine blew and it got built into a 3.7, but also has coilovers, sway bars, bunch of weight stripped out, etc. For what’s been put into it financially, I’m close to high mileage GT3 prices, but the time and fun spent building it in my garage beats the hell out of the panache a GT3 gets at cars and coffee.
I've owned 2 budget Porsches... they've both budget compared to say.... a new Civic. 1984 944 and 2001 986 S. If you can't afford to spend a few k on maintenance then it's not for you, but absolutely cheaper/yr than a payment on a new Civic.
What's a few k on maintenance cause my wife gave me a 2023 gt3rs for our wedding gifts and the boardwalk Porsche dealership told me don't crash at all cause no matter what it will be considered a total so could I fix it myself for a few grand?
Was hoping for a mezger engine but budget doesn’t exist with that motir
I love how he kept 996.1 Version 1 headlights and tail lights. And he didn't upgrade to the version 2 or the 996.2 turbo style headlights.
I think the orange indicators look phenomenal with this color
Thanks! :)
I've done something similar with my 996.1 aero. 3.8l using LA sleeves, 997 3.8 air box & manifold, full exhaust, cooling, oiling mods, etc... definitely a lot of money into it but I bought it for $10k, 10 years ago when the prices were extremely cheap! I love the GT3ish name. I was considering calling mine a Clubsport but ultimately I went with Carrera RS as an hommage but also RS happens to be my initials lol.
Great video!... It's a cool build for sure! 'GT3ish...' is such a cool badge.
Matt's attitude was cooler though! ✨👌
As an individual who has made equally bad 'financial choices' when building multiple cars, Matt's ethos on life resonates loudly with me. The car is really bloody cool!... Even if it's not an actual GT3, It's still EPIC!!
Ps - As someone who has Porsches, including a 2003 2.7 986 facelift variant Boxster, firstly let's stop hating
(snide comments) on 'Boxsters', and also these 986/996 headlights...
They are actually one of my favourite parts of these cars, the are VERY vintage Porsche now!
There are some seriously well-built Boxsters in this world, some of these would honestly put many 911 in their place on a twisty road. While I appreciate the appeal of the iconic 911, other models can be just as enjoyable from the Porsche brand.
Secondly, following on from above... There's no 'beef' with 911 and Boxster owners! 😂
My Boxster was a £5.5k (cheap) purchase, and I have spent that again making it super tidy!
I'm happy to have a very well-sorted Boxster (for 10k), then an unsorted 996 for the money.
911 owners are always giving my 986 Boxster a wave and thumbs up on the roads, and I'm always giving them equal amounts of acknowledgement and recognition for their cars too!
People need to stop spreading this concept that the 'Boxster' isn't loved in the Porsche community, that the 996 is somehow not a REAL 911... and that there is some kind of rivalry between us all.
We're just 'Porsche People' and our passion is for the brand, our cars, our community and other people's cars and automotive passion projects too.
We're all good! 🤟
996 might just be the best looking 911 ever made. Looks are almost totally subjective after all...
GTS would be the perfect badge.
Nailed it.
Sweet car. Now I want one.
Ya sorry
I’ve told people for years that a properly modified/tuned 996/997 will give gt3’s a run for their money at a fraction of the cost. There’s a reason you never see a 996/997 gt3 head to head vs a 996/997S model. (996 had the 4S but no s model)
I have a 996.1 with the 3.8 liter engine rebuild / upgrade with nickies / forged internals etc
20K so not cheap but sweet 👌👌
Such a cool car.
This is one of those sentimental cars that he'll always be known for... I love it.
I had a Mazda mx3 V6 in that same color!
Need to do a rear seat delete.
Least desirable is definitely subjective. I would rather have a 996 vs a 993 or any aircooled convertible (targas not included).
I've never liked a convertible 911 but especially pre 991 they don't look nice to me. 996 was definitely my poster car, I'd happily own one
Why put gen 2 wheels & wing on a gen 1, would have been more authentic to put the bbs sport design wheels & taco rear wing.
I recognize this from Rennlist!
I was considering posting the link on RL...
@@dr.mattpavlic305 Post the link! id love to read through the post!
I really liked that car, looks great. I just think it sits a little too high in the rear.
The tires I bought during COVID were unfortunately just a little too big on sidewall for the rear. Couldn't get Michelins at the time. Once I run these ones out I'll purchase the proper size ;)
A lot of GT3 have front rake, to put more weight balance and improve front grip
Cheaper better Porsche build would be a 981 Boxster/Cayman with a. Deman 4.5 L 500 hp engine. The 981 shares 2/3 of its parts with the 991 911 and weighs less and cost 25-35k less to buy in the first place. It also handles better and gets better mileage.
Budget doesn’t exist with Porsche. Mods are sky high, and if anything breaks it’s beyond spends. Hard to thrash on something like this, when in the back of your head you will be worried about what it will cost when it breaks.
I have a couple of other cars if I really feel the need to give them a good thrashing. It's true, mods are pricier than most would like, and if things break, oh boy... But, the motor has been bulletproofed as much as can be on these 996's, so anything else breaking is reasonable in comparison.
If you can't just enjoy it you can't really afford it.
😂😂😂😂😂
Again with the headlight commentary.... yawn. Truth be told, the 996 styling stands out as unique among all other 911s, a trait that many of us owners are proud of. Secondly, if compared to other cars of its era, the 996 comes off as very futuristic and forward-looking. Ignore all other 911s for a minute, gaze at it with fresh eyes and you'll see that it's actually a very attractive sports car with gorgeous flowing lines. Especially so when equipped with the full .1 Aerokit.
As for the feature car, the turquoise body mixed with the pink belts and badging is so very late-80s/early-90s! Love it!
Those look like some of the straightest, longest, most boring roads to drive a car like this.
the GT3 shares literally nothing but the interior with that car. it isn't even the same chassis.
GT2 is the top actually.
Tasteless UA-camrs that are biased and copycating other "opinions" about the original 996.1 headlights is to be sick of. Point is that you actually dont dare say you like them. Folks and reviewer like this are waste of bytes... That "Mezger" engine is a fad. BTW Mezger was involved in the M96 3.4 Carrera engine design. The GT3 has it s issues as well.
