Welcome to the 1,000HP Protomotive Porsche 911 Turbo! After flying down to Arkansas, we found a few of these iconic German sports cars in the place you'd least expect to find them. Protomotive has been tuning Porsches since 1984, and with that comes a long list of notable builds that are driving worldwide, still to this day. Everything from remote tuning to complete 1250+ HP engine builds and everything in between. This has got to be some of the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel of a sports car. Enjoy!

"We race because we're not allowed to go to war."
Do you guys like that RUF in the back as much as I do?!
Roads Untraveled No homo?
Roads Untraveled Yes sir!! Hey, i agree with Arkansas having some unbelievable driving roads. You should Google "The pig tail". It is one of the best roads in the US. Some even say that it's better than "The dragon tail". I have personally driven on it, and it is amazing!
RUF's could give a dog a bone.
Holy shit no one ever comes to Arkansas and I can't find car events ever 😂
Im a ruf fan. My top 3 dream cars 1. 1987 ruf yellowbird 2. Lancia type 037 3. Ford rs200
A huge thank you to my son Matthew for setting this up. Had it not been for him, this video would have never come to light.
Honestly, would have been better if you drove the entire time with the host sitting shotgun. With your knowledge of how hard you can push the car and his reactions, it made for a very entertaining ride along!
I really enjoyed this video! Thank you for sharing with us your corner of the glove and letting us see behind the scenes. We know you guys are quite private, so this was a gem to let us see the Day and life over at Protomotive! 😊🙏
@@SF_Native believe it or not they were going to leave that part out! We had to talk them into putting it in. I think your idea is awesome :)
@@rennstreetpodcastyou're very welcome. @roadsuntraveled did an amazing job with the video!
when the lady said im the engine builder i was like what that is sweet and props to her for following her passion
badass woman!!
Is it just me or is the 996 design coming of age really well? it honestly doesn't look bad at all any more.
Vedant Agarwal it never did ...with the face lift
It never looked bad
the turbos always looked good. The 996 was just not quite right. New bumper and wheels go a long way on tgem
lol.. until you sit inside it. The layout is silly and the the buttons are just too "Radio Shack" to me. It's the step-child in-between the old classic style and the new style. I would take a 993 or 997 before I would ever consider a 996. Thankfully I don't have to because I own a 997.2 which in my opinion is not only the sweet spot before Porsche made the 991 too long and wide (read: boring) but it is heading towards future classic. A 996 will never be a future classic.
@@Michael_00001 997 is what ur Dentist drives. Complete lack of character and milk toast sorry
I found the couple more interesting than the driving for some reason. They should have a separate video, there’s so much more to hear from them
Rob Baez thank you :) we love what we do.
I could of talked to them for hours yesterday! So down to earth cool people.
She is an engine builder? That really is one of the most fascinating and cool statements during this MCO...
Way to go Maam...full of respect...hope both you and Todd have a great life doing what you both love...
From Malaysia with love.
Protomotive is a legend ,it was "prototech " back in the days
Savage car 🙏
... okay this is better than MotorTrend
Mariusz803 agreed!
That's not saying much.
Todd is a really good guy, They really know there stuff!
Some of the best well rounded content....from the builders story, car itself, driving, and the driving reaction. Hope there is more love for the 996 after this.
So Dude is Basically A Rocket Scientist who said F it imma build Exotic engine n software in my Barn "HELL YEA"
Ramon Blackz Rick style baby 😎
these people are so amazing. They are the reason why i hate tuner show-offs like Mansory etc...
Love how real the people at Protomotive are. Also this vid gives you a good feeling of what high hp cars are actually like.
As someone who is both a fan and fortunate enough to have been on the channel, I have to say, this is one the best videos you guys have put out. Really original content and just awesome to see a couple doing what they love. Well done guys! 👍🏻
This guy really builds twin turbo Porsches in Sandals. What a legend!
This is hands down THE coolest thing I've seen in the automotive aftermarket! Very cool! Good to see a small shop like this getting some attention. Nice job man!
what a cool couple those two are. they’re badasses, too
I knew that thumbnail looked familiar lol. I know the video is a few years old. Yes the roads are amazing and you didn’t hit that many. I ride motorcycles all over in that area! Thank you for going there and checking them out.
Way cool. So humble and yet they have so much to boast about.
Love everything about this team! Great video! Thank you for sharing!
996s are such a bang for the buck. Awesome cars.
I have watched nearly every roads Untraveled video and the cinematography is just amazing in each episode
Really unpopular opinion: The 996 is my favorite 911 from Porsche. It was the first 911 i really noticed when i was a kid, playing NFS Hort Pursuit 2. Since then it always had an place in my heart and i think when u modify it right, its one of the best looking ones. Also its relatively cheap compared to the others, because many people dont like it. So u get much more for youre money then with other 911s.
That face at 9:55 was epic and I love that you travelled for this one. That dedication just made me join the notification squad.
KruBee416 me too
And watch his death grip on the steering wheel :) yes, I got them to burst out in uncontrolled emotion during the high boost rides at the end :) it was priceless!
Route 7 in Arkansas is one of the best roads I've ever been on.
I live about 2 minutes from Highway 7 lol. It's fun.
This is one of the best car videos I've seen period. Both of them are incredible! Thank you so much for sharing this Marcus! I'd love to meet the two of them when I own my own Porsche one day.
TODD MAPPED MY CAR IN THE UK REMOTELY!! SHOUT OUT TO TODD!!!
Excellent product & Passion
The boy looks absolutely frightened, it can't be that scary can it?
After not driving it for a while, it definitely takes a bit to get used to the sensory overload and get back to a comfort level driving.
The 996 is actually my favourite 911.
This reminds me of cartoon film "Cars", where McQueen found Sally Carrera in an unexpected place.
I think this is the first interview and video of protomotive shop on youtube
NOMFC yeah, lots of videos, mostly customers, but first real interview... More to come though!
Another great video loving this channel more and more
Great video! Unlike other channels diluting their content, you're bringing the goods. Great looking highly modified fast cars people like us MR2 owners would lust after (I have a 2ZZ-GE swapped MRS). When I finish medical school, I hope start my own health and wellness youtube channel, and to buy a blacked out 996 for cheap and make it like the 911 Turbo I saw in this video. The detail of how the shop did it's work was super cool. Keep up the good work and keep creating great content that makes your channel better and better!
That red and white truck is the best part of the video
been a fan since the beginning. always been a porsche lover and this video just made my day! keep up the great work man. ill try to find you in van one day haha
The flat 6 turbo makes such a beautiful noise.
This Awesome 20min video sums up why I have devoted almost 30yrs of my livelihood to Todd/Cynthia/PROTOMOTIVE....AMAZING people AMAZING vision AMAZING cars...I was in that passenger seat 28yrs ago and it changed my life,I knew in 2 gear shifts what I would be doing with the rest of my life! AWESOME VIDEO GUYS! CONGRATS!
J G you're making me feel old now ;p but beautifully said :) I hope you pass it on!
LOVE IT!!!!! 😎 I think one of the best vids you guys have mad yet, besides the number one video of the 1,036HP-1,300HP Duane's white MKIII SUPRA!!!!!!! 👍
made*
17:00 just watch from there people seem to forget and not watch the entire video. 4th gear 100+ with wheel spin .... what a fucking beast
I love this video.
the 996 911 is by far the best looking 911, especially with that GT2-style wing and bodykit
This is a great vid. Great story with amazing work. We race big turbo drag radial cars and go really fast. Just bought the 996TT for the street and it is impressive to say the least. Loving the car.Need to get with these guys to take it up a notch. Good stuff. Thx
Let's do it!
I've owned a Protomotive Porsche. It's still my favorite after owning BMWs, Corvettes, Viper, GT500. The sound, acceleration, the feel, the reliability. Hard to match.
Great to hear from you Gregg! Great testimony!
Arkansas has some pretty nice roads
I think it's super cool I finally get to see something this ludicrous in my home state! So awesome knowing I'm sharing the same roads with cars this spectacular. Maybe they'll bring a car to a local meet or show and I'll get a chance to check it out!
Spinning 4th gear at 100+, what a beast, that thing is dangerous
Go further down south to Georgia and Florida. Very big car scene in both of those states. Awesome video as always!
I’ve got family in Arkansas!! Those roads are like a second home to me
YES...PROTOMOTIVE! Great find guys!
I drive a Ford Focus, live in NZ, but I have known for a very long time about the legendary company called Protomotive! much respect!
Fantastic video guys! Definitely the best car video I've seen yet :)
19:48 Builder explains why really high powered street cars like this are actually pointless 'unless you're on a 4 lane highway, rolling on the throttle at 100mph... forget about it'
That's what a boost controller is for! Best of both worlds. 600whp in a manual 911 is totally useable on the street, but still brutal enough to want to kill you if you don't respect it ;)
Project D true though with a lot of modern high hp cars they can be detuned for the street.
True, I'm sure the owner doesn't roll around at max boost. It's also better to have that overhead in the engine build especially with boosted engines. Nowadays you can also tune boost by gear or use dbw/timing/boost control based traction control too. I just don't even want to know the cost of the extra parts to bring 600 up to 1000. Glad to see you constantly progressing on another note. Keep it up.
Boost by gear and mickey et streets on full kill would be fine to hook at 60
He nailed it. Even a stock 996tt is useless on normal rds. Unless you want to get impounded. A lot of kids dont realize this.
Now this is the channel I could watch all day!!! Well done everyone!!! I love it
Really good content enjoyed watching this very well structured video top stuff guys!
Fastest chainsaw I ever heard.
The black one looks far better than the blue in my opinion
This is one of the greatest videos I've ever seen. I'm trying to buy a 996 turbo in the soon to be future. And this blew my mind. I love everything I saw thanks for this it was great.
Wow, so the shop is way the hell out in the woods - that's pretty cool. The car looks like it needs a little suspension tweaking for the squat though. Maybe that's not possible with that hp lol.
We have tuned the suspension just about as much as we can lol it has come along way from we're we started tho
Now I know where to take my future 911 too. Thanks you guys. 👍👍
Always been a fan of the 996.
Greetings from Greece! I'm here after seeing a 911 sale with your tuning package installed!
Almost forgot how beautiful of a state Arkansas is, especially in the area you visited. Great video!
Awesome!! Glad to see these guys from my home state building badass 911’s. Go Hogs!!
Bro you're in my State! Finally Arkansas is getting some recognition!
Elite Gains were you pumped to see the show "Ozarks" on netflix?
I know where he's driving--don't you, Elite Gains? (Yup, I live here, too!)
daffodildeb Ponca Arkansas My Man! Literally 45 minutes away from where I live!
I'm buying a 2006 boxster and heavy moding it I'm so excited
Been working out lately, brochacho? Looking bigger than usual.
If this lady was my mother I would constantly tell people that I have the coolest mom on the planet
The green piping looks sick
HowTRIK thanks :) it's acid green like the new 918...
good LORD.
Garage in the middle of woods ??? My biggest dream place.
This was a good one. Had I the money, I would absolutely want that woman building my engine.
That couple is awesome!!
I live you Arkansas for now where have these guys been ❤️❤️
I’m gonna need a different tune for my 01 996tt . I can’t believe I’ve owned it for 23 yrs now 😮
That back end shot is amazing what a beast.
The owners seem so laid back and pure. Come to California and most shops on this level act like you are in Area 51. Just saying, it’s refreshing to see an unusual couple who are dedicated to Porsche like they are. Yeh this is my engine builder.....
I’m from Arkansas. Born and raised there but currently moved to Florida last year.
I have a 996 turbo s and I have already tuned it to 600hp I have the choice to tune it to 1000hp should I do it?
If you like high speed, competitions, mile races and such it's great. If you're a 0 to 60 person you won't really enjoy the high power. So you just need the correct power where you'll use it.
@@toddknighton Ok thank you for the advice!
This video makes me so happy
what a stunning color 996 one of the most attracting IMO (after 993)
I got to meet this amazing couple and see this insane P car in person at a local Cars & Coffee event yesterday. Made my weekend!
What an amazing pair of human beings! Cheers!
Amazing car as well!
Incredible video man!!
Enjoyed the last bit, clearly speechless haha
Surprised nobody peeped the 996 GT1 inspiration
Lol, I had made a post on our Instagram with a cobalt blue GT1, referencing this car... Yes, a far cry from a GT1 on the track, but not everyone can afford a GT1!
These are some extremely bright builders.
Arkansas is my home state! This is so dope! Did you film this in the ouachita mountains or the Boston mountains? I know when I go back to see family from time to time I love driving through the mountains before I get to Little Rock
Close to Ozark National Forest! Somewhere around there. Some of the greatest driving roads I've ever had the pleasure of rolling over.
Stuff like this you just can't script. Couple in the Arkansas backwoods have a top shelf performance lab that builds some of the nastiest Porsche motors around, and does all of the design and machining in-house. Someone get the Anime deal in the works. Also, it reminds me of maybe the best NSX tech in Tennessee: 'Used to work out of a literal barn. You'd go to a small town outside Nashville, turn off the highway, go over the river, through the woods, turn a corner and there would be half a dozen NSXs and ITRs lined up next to the split rail fence.
Yall need more subs all your vids are awesome!
Haven’t watched Roads untraveled in a long time but this video catched my attention
Looks like I will be travelling to AK from Atlanta In the near future.
Every one that was involved in this video .....standing ovation
What a beautiful life
"...not a glamorous thing to do it."
Nope, it is not glamorous. It's being a professional from tip to toe, good lady. If I can, I will visit you, inspirational couple of pros.
Kindest regards,
M.
This place is really close to where I live. I should have been following your instagram more closely. I would have loved to show you all around. It looks like you got to enjoy the roads down here a bit. Good stuff.
Its about 20 minutes from me. I work for FedEx and have actually been down to their shop before :). Cool vid!
Wow! I love this. American handmade. True excellence! and this is coming from a german
No fucking way 🙌🏼👍🏽
Also in Alabama, there's an European tuner company called APR.
