I actually love that solo specifically because it makes you think it's gonna end then keeps going. It's like edging. You think you're gonna get your resolution but it just doesn't stop
Stargazer is one of my favorite "punchline" song. All these people slave and die to build a tower for this wizard that they worship so he can ascend into heaven and become a god. Then when the time comes, he climbs to the top and steps off.... and splat. Beware of false prophets. Check out Kill the King by Rainbow.
I love Ronnie, he was a great singer, but he fell out with everyone he ever worked with, Rainbow, Sabbath and every member of Dio barring Vinnie Appice.
Now you gotta do Deep Purple!! Deep Purple - Child in Time. Great reaction guys, it's awesome being here taking breakfast in this side of the world, getting a notification that you guys have uploaded a reaction and find out it's a classic... this just made my morning!
I would appreciate if you could react to Deep Purple - Child in Time, their guitarist Ritchie Blackmore was also the founder of Rainbow and responsible for the awesome solo in Stargazer.
Lord Perth - The entire Edge of Sanity - "Crimson"? . . . . probably not :P. Added note: Damn, Goka was way ahead of me! And haha, yes Lord Perth, its already difficult to get the guys to give Opeth a 2nd try (and vocalist Mikael Akerfeldt being the 2nd vocalist on Crimson with Dan Swano ;).
I know they dont do Live vids, but I KNOW they would get into watching the band play it ("Child in Time") if they gave it a chance, seeing them and their stage presence.
I've always thought Gates Of Babylon was Rainbow's best song. That song is so special and important to me. First time I heard it, I was blown away. Then I had to listen to it several more times.
Also, from Genius.com : "The start of Rainbow’s epic, a tale of a wizard who believed he could fly. People believe in the wizard and are enslaved in order to build a tower in harsh conditions in the desert so he can fly, during which many die. When the tower is finally erected the wizard climbs the tower only to fall to his death instead of flying, and the slaves feel lost until they see a ‘Rainbow Rising’ (the album title) on the horizon. This then leads onto the final song on the album ‘A Light in the Black’, in which people re-find their purpose after a light in the sky appears. The song is a sweeping narrative about the dangers of hubris - its human costs, its ultimate, doomed folly, and what happens in its wake."
This song is prob the most underrated song ever. Why it's not played on every classic station that plays smoke on the water 5000000 times a yr is beyond me. This song should be so much bigger
My wishlist: Angra - Nothing To Say Blind Guardian - Time Stands Still (At The Iron Hill) Helloween - Ride The Sky Iron Savior - The Savior Judas Priest - The Sentinel Nightwish - Ghost Love Score Symphony X - Of Sins And Shadows Virgin Steele - The Burning of Rome Type O Negative - Black N. 1
Stargazer's a fantastic song! To me, the lyrics seemed like it was about a slave to an evil wizard, being forced to build a tower to allow the wizard to reach the stars (hence, stargazer). It seems, though, that it doesn't work and the wizard just falls to the ground and basically becomes a stain in the dirt lmao. But the bright side is it means the slaves are free to go as their master is dead, and the song's protagonist seems to announce his desire to go home.
Stargazer has Dio's best vocal performance(in my opinion), but A Light In The Black has those two mind blowing solo's. They are both amazing in their own way.
It's funny that you guys mention the length of the solo and song because Ronnie James Dio did not like this song for those reasons. Rainbow was Ritchie Blackmore's band and Ritchie Blackmore was known for wanting long instrumental pieces in some of his music, and RJD did not like that. Having said that, I have to respectfully disagree with him on that for this particular song. I think this song is perfection and is RJD's best vocal performance ever. I love you guys' reaction videos whether I agree with some of them or not. Keepin' it real is the best way to go.
I agree with you 101%, this song is PERFECTION and his best vocals, truth be told, I think blackmore's musicianship with Ronnie's intelligence and voice was a match made in heaven, explosive but beautiful!!!! I also love the gates of babylon piece, I think both these songs are pure magic.
I strongly disagree. The most overrated rainbow tune Ronnie Dio ever sang. "Rising" is a great overall release, but the lyrics of this tune is just laughable. Meaningless drivel all over. And "Rising" has no f@cking bass, which is why i think "Long live Rock'n'roll" is a better overall release.
the band's called RAINBOW for a reason PyrateDog, it's SUPPOSED TO BE about mythical stuff and things far away in time, and i see nothing wrong with the story that he told in the two songs stargazer and light in the black, tarot woman wasn't bad at all, lyrics were normal, the shitty lyrics i suppose come from do you close your eyes and starstruck, and to tell you the truth i agree, but i think that ronnie is using his voice not as a story teller in this album, but more of an instrument, which goes along perfectly with other instruments
beedo hashish: The band was called "Rainbow" because rb wanted top rate musicians, all waving their colours, and because "roundabout" was taken. "There's no sun in the shadow of the wizard"? No shit, Sherlock! What's the definition of "Shadow", again..? "See how he glides, why, he's lighter than air!"... No, the lyrics are shite. On THIS tune. At least "Starstruck" is ABOUT something. It's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it. I agree with Ronnie, he was right in that this & "A Light in the Black" is some self-indulgent shit. The good SONGS are good on "Rising". This isn't one of them.
He and Bill Ward are criminally underrated! Check out some of the footage of Cozy with Jeff Beck from around 1972! Beck is my favorite guitarist, but Cozy really steals away the thunder in that performance!
RAINBOW was part of the forefront of Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal at the time had the Widest Wings with which to soar. There were no boundaries and no genres.
Stargazer, absolute masterpiece. The picture it paints, the story it narrates... It becomes so easy to visualize thanks to the raw power and emotion in Dio's voice. The instruments really add life to this.
This song is from the perspective of a slave, who amongst others has spent years building a tower for someone called “The Wizard” who they believe will climb to the top and fly to the stars, but when he finally does climb to the top he jumps and falls to his death. Then all of these people who believed are lost after spending years building something for nothing.
That song is one of the milestones of rock music. And as far as i know this song was played together with Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. Yhat is one of the very few examples back then. Rainbow's sound was pure quality and song themes introduced dungeons and dragons theme to hard rock genre.
J Cobain I can see them liking it. Lots of movement, good beat, face-melting organ solo.... (Never thought I'd describe an organ solo that way but there it is...)
Ozzy Osbourne-Diary Of A Madman!! Seriously check it out! It’s got classical elements and is Randy Rhoads’ best song (in my opinion). There’s so much going on with it and I think you guys would enjoy it.
Hey guys. Your comments and headbanging makes me smile. That is a great idea to listen to different genre music and you do it very honestly and a lot fun. Great job!
This is a classic...but some of us still think "Gates Of Babylon" is the ultimate Dio vocal masterpiece. Sleep With The Devil...and then you must pay!!
What's actually funny is that Dio has stated in an interview that he doesn't like this song because Ritchie's solo was too long. He really hated Ritchie lol
Ritchie Blackmores solo can't be too long. He is a virtuoso, he can take you to this distant place in space with his guitar and make you forget everything else you have on your mind. Even if he played a 30 minute solo it would be beautiful and a real pleasure to listen to for me!
Genesis Von Keglar yes! those are good options too, but I think maybe they should start with Black No.1 just to get a feel for Type O... but lets keep suggesting so they react to something from Type O lol 😁
Genesis Von Keglar ah right... ok I’ll edit my comment... if they see this comment... George and Ryan do the unedited version! I repeat... unedited version! 😁
Ritchie Blackmore from Deep Purple formed this band when he left the band. Ronnie Dio on vocals and the late great Cozy Powell on drums. This is an epic of vocal, rhythm and guitar. One of the all time greats
Judas Priest - Victim of Changes / Beyond the Realms of Death Come on guys!! You really need to give one of these a shot. See what the Metal Gods were like back in the 70s and how they refined metal as we know it.
Stargazer is one of those classic songs that's almost composed rather than written, on of the greatest rock songs of all time. Been a while since y'all have reacted to some Priest, so I'm gonna recommend Judas Priest - Victim Of Changes or Beyond The Realms of Death.
If you guys don't know, Rainbow was formed by Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore who left Purple when he wasn't happy with the direction that band was going. Ronnie James Dio was the singer on the 1st 3 albums and then he left to join Black Sabbath after Ozzy's firing. He then did 2 albums with Sabbath before quitting to form his own band, Dio. By the way, I strongly suggest you listen to A Light in the Black by Rainbow. It's a lot more energetic, great guitar and keyboard solos. I think it's a much better song than Stargazer.
Zap Rowsdower dio did 3 albums with sabbath (Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Dehumanizer) and another album with the sabbath guys under a different name (heaven and hell- the devil you know)
Yeah if you listen to A Light in the Black's lyrics, you hear him singing about the journey back home and the memory of serving the wizard. He reflects on time wasted and when he finally makes it home, he sees the star the wizard was looking for.
@ruben I hadn't thought Tarot Woman as apart of that but that kinda makes sense if you put Tarot Woman at the beginning with lines like, "I'll never return, how do you know Tarot Woman?"
I started watching you guys about a month ago and I just can't get enough! I turn everyone I know on to you guys, I love the appreciation you guys have for music and you just make me rethink everything. Much respect to you guys!
You should listen to Deep Purple albums before 1985, Highway stars...That song is with same guitar pleayer that "create" Rainbow..Ritchie Blackmore.. he was icon with others, like Tommy Iommi from Black Sabbath. Those times were awesome for metal and rock in general
This is one of my fav metallica songs but nother to me holds up to Damage Inc. That song makes me want to move and get the blood moving... And the lyrics kick ass
I know its bass, Cliff Burton was one of my biggest influences him and Geezer Butler... I have learned this song... And it is not just bass it is multiple bass parts over dubbed...
Im pretty sure the glasses dude will probably enjoy the whole Close to the Edge album. Too bad they only react to views, hence why zero jazz or classical...
I love Symphony X and Set the World on Fire is great. That being said, I think they'd enjoy the brutality of My Domination and Walls of Babylon a whoooole lot more. They seem a lot more in line with the stuff they dig in their videos.
That has been my all-time favorite album since it came out, and that is probably the best song on there, but it must be mentioned that the lyrics probably won't stand up well to review since it's only part of the whole story. Like nearly every other King Diamond album, it's a concept album. But yeah, I'd love to see a King Diamond or Mercyful Fate reaction. (Mercyful Fate - Desecration of Souls or Come to the Sabbath)
Dio usually wrote about the lore of "mystical" things, for example, 'Heaven & Hell' was inspired by tarot cards. 'Stargazer' is a fable that warns people about believing in messiahs and not giving into hopelessness. The story literally tells the tale of tyrant wizard who enslaves a country and makes them build a tower for him. As people hope their misery comes to an end someday, even as they build the tower in harsh conditions ("In the heat and rain, with whips and chains") just so they can see him fly, which gives them hope. But, the wizard falls off the tower and dies ("no sound as he falls instead of rising. Time standing still, then there's blood on the sand.")
Thank you guys very much for reacting to my favorite heavy metal song of all time. I asked about it at least 9 months ago but I'm glad u guys did it! Thanks again!
Good choice! The combo of Dio and Ritchie Blackmore (former Deep Purple guitarist) is rock and roll electricity. There was no guarantee that Rainbow was going to succeed but man, they hit it out of the park with this one. Also, lol on "constant climax!" 🤣🤣🤣
Hi aaronstallard, I always wondered what they could have done together. Great combo indeed! But they both have such similar styles that perhaps they felt it was TOO good. ? They both went on and continued being very musically creative. :)
The song is from the perspective of a slave forced to build the tower for the wizard, so the wizard can jump from the top and fly, but then "time standing still, and there's blood on the sand" the wizard doesn't fly, and the slaves are in shock from everything they were working towards being rendered worthless.
ziiofswe i know that but when people discuss great drummers in rock / hard rock /metal , very rarely or never is cozy mentioned, when someone brings him up , everyone is like , " yea right , i forgot about him " . Even when he was alive , he was rarely mentioned. Thats what i mean, with being underrated .
love you guys! the basic story of the song is that this wizard made his people create a structure so high that he could "rise" to heaven. He tries, and he falls and dies.
Another great review guys! You've done some Dio, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, but you are still missing one of the greatest metal singer, Mickael Kiske! Please do some Helloween nexti time (We Got The Right, Halloween, I Want Out, Future World... ).
A Ritchie Blackmore solo is neither too long, nor too short. Its precisely as long as it means to be
Seanothan O'Neill The end of this song goes longer than the 17 endings of The Return of the King
Exactly!!
I actually love that solo specifically because it makes you think it's gonna end then keeps going. It's like edging. You think you're gonna get your resolution but it just doesn't stop
James Vogt me too!
🙏👌

Check out Kill the King by Rainbow.
See the movie (though its a bit cheesy) "The Silver Chalice" with Paul Newman and Jack Palance (who could be the "Wizard" in the Rainbow song).
I agree in everything, except I've never seen a true prophet, so I distrust any of them.
Kill the King is far and away their best song IMO.

Amazing drummer. One of the very best.
The GREAT cozy powel you mean
I would suggest you guys give a listen to Man on the Silver Mountain by Rainbow too. React or not, doesnt matter. Its just another good Rainbow song.
That is just an awesome song! My favorite out of the Rainbow songs.
Same here 👋🏽
Great suggestion.
Love his live version of that song with the tempo sped up.
My favorite song by Rainbow is "Street of Dreams". Ritchie Blackmore was perfect in that song.
Black Sabbath - Fairies Wear Boots(Ozzy on Vocals). Probably one of the grooviest tracks ever made.
Now thats a track to listen to, or even Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Into the Void, Iron Man. Could go on and on. Just listen to every Sabbath album
Pantera - Domination (Live From Moscow)
Ronnie was everybody's best friend as soon as he met them. He's considered the nicest guy in rock, never met a stranger.

Light in the Black is the sequel to story told in Stargazer.

Stargazer has Dio's best vocal performance(in my opinion), but A Light In The Black has those two mind blowing solo's. They are both amazing in their own way.

Zap Rowsdower I love the entire album, and Light in the Black is a great song, but Stargazer is one of the greatest ever, in my humble opinion.
Judas Priest - Victim of Changes
You two are just a heck of a lot of fun to watch! I'll have to check out some of your reactions to things I have never heard before.
Black Sabbath - Hand of Doom (have lyrics handy)
Ka BaKi blacķ sabbath TYR album .
A Light in the Black by Rainbow. It's the sequel to Stargazer and fits in more with what Ryan said about the hero finally coming out of darkness.
The Undertaker I never knew light in the Black was a sequel to stargazer but that makes a lot of sense
Yeah if you listen to A Light in the Black's lyrics, you hear him singing about the journey back home and the memory of serving the wizard. He reflects on time wasted and when he finally makes it home, he sees the star the wizard was looking for.
Yes! I actually suggested that one but they went with Stargazer because it had more requests. They should do that in the future.
@ruben I hadn't thought Tarot Woman as apart of that but that kinda makes sense if you put Tarot Woman at the beginning with lines like, "I'll never return, how do you know Tarot Woman?"
YESSSS! I've waited ages for this one. Thank you.
I started watching you guys about a month ago and I just can't get enough! I turn everyone I know on to you guys, I love the appreciation you guys have for music and you just make me rethink everything. Much respect to you guys!
Pantera - Cemetary Gates
It's been done, but the guys found one of Phil's racist rants so it's never been released.
lol that's funny. One of? xD
Jonathan Johnson “if it was the other way around” ok no don’t do that dude
Pantera "Hollow" from the "Vulgar Display Of Power" record !😎
yeah
Now you guys need to do Gates of Babylon- Rainbow!
Please do Cemetery Gates with Pantera!
That music was epic. None of of those songs were too long. They tell a story - not like the simplistic forms of music today.
Rainbow: Man on the Silver Mountain.
You should listen to Deep Purple albums before 1985, Highway stars...That song is with same guitar pleayer that "create" Rainbow..Ritchie Blackmore.. he was icon with others, like Tommy Iommi from Black Sabbath. Those times were awesome for metal and rock in general
Deep Purple - Highway Star!!
YES
Or Burn!
i think burn has a much higher probability of making playlist. awesome lyrics and instrumentation and orchestration. more hard hitting and short.
Child in Time
oh oh ! wait, if we're going deep purple, they should be lazy and stay in bed, if you catch my drift, wink wink nudge nudge.
I've been on a Lost In Vegas marathon for a couple hours now, love the videos! I'm a new sub and I'll keep up from now on for sure.
I don't ever see any requests for...
Savatage - Hall of the Mountain King
ALICE IN CHAINS -- "NUTSHELL"
Black Sabbath - Children of the grave
They would love that tune.
Into the Void
Back after a year. Happy you guys are going even stronger than ever. Well deserved
Orion - Metallica
This is one of my fav metallica songs but nother to me holds up to Damage Inc. That song makes me want to move and get the blood moving... And the lyrics kick ass
Things to know before listening to it: Yes, that is bass guitar
I know its bass, Cliff Burton was one of my biggest influences him and Geezer Butler... I have learned this song... And it is not just bass it is multiple bass parts over dubbed...
Fenix Bloodstone Fenix Bloodstone I know you know that. It was more for Ryan and George
Yes - Roundabout
HELL YES! One of the best bass-lines of ANY song ever. Their musicianship and melody is amazing on that song.
Yes can only be fully appreciated when you watch them preform live. Watching how many instruments they play at the same time is mind blowing!
Im pretty sure the glasses dude will probably enjoy the whole Close to the Edge album. Too bad they only react to views, hence why zero jazz or classical...
Symphony X - Set the World on Fire (The Lie of Lies) and/or Paradise lost -Epic metal balad-
Symphony X is symphonic metal
I love Symphony X and Set the World on Fire is great.
That being said, I think they'd enjoy the brutality of My Domination and Walls of Babylon a whoooole lot more. They seem a lot more in line with the stuff they dig in their videos.
Nevermore!
If they are more interested with more of a metal sound, they should listen to Dehumanized.
alphazombie220
Great song, but the production lets that whole album down.
I think that guitar solo was amazing it was breathtaking in a masterpiece💪🏼🤟🤟🤟🤟
King Diamond: Black Horsemen from the Abigail album.
Mercyful Fate-Evil
React to Orion By metallica
You'll love every bit of t
Great description Andres!
I love watching you guys enjoy this stuff!!! Especially with your responses being so raw and genuine. Good Work.
SLAYER-ANGEL OF DEATH!!!!!!
Blind Guardian- Mirror Mirror
And then there was silence *.*
Blind Guardian 100% for sure. I'd go with Bright Eyes, but Mirror Mirror is also amazing.
Nightfall is a killer song too
Sacred Worlds is another good one from the newer albums. But do love mirror mirror
I would go with Imaginations from the other Side. But yeah, Blind Guardian would be awesome.
Child In Time by Deep Purple possibly?
Yes !!! Here waiting too
Thank you guys very much for reacting to my favorite heavy metal song of all time. I asked about it at least 9 months ago but I'm glad u guys did it! Thanks again!
Living Colour - Cult of Personality please!
I'll keep requesting it until you guys play it!
Jason Monholland great song
Jason Monholland Love it
If we're going to go down that route, I'd be interested in what these guys think about Bad Brains, 24-7 Spyz and Body Count
yeah
Jason Monholland hells yes!!!!!
LOL!
Ritchie letting Ronnie go was his downfall
aaronstallard Agreed!
Not to mention legendary drummer Cozy Powell.
Hi aaronstallard, I always wondered what they could have done together. Great combo indeed! But they both have such similar styles that perhaps they felt it was TOO good. ? They both went on and continued being very musically creative. :)
Tool - Vicarious (lyric video)
Justin McMillan yasssssss
The song is from the perspective of a slave forced to build the tower for the wizard, so the wizard can jump from the top and fly, but then "time standing still, and there's blood on the sand" the wizard doesn't fly, and the slaves are in shock from everything they were working towards being rendered worthless.
A bit like the tower of Babel in the Bible.
I believe it's an astronomer because back then they believed astronomers used magic
Yeah Ryan that riff is definitely the sound of the times. Fun song, Dio is a legend.
Dio was amazing!!! When you go back to him try Don’t talk to strangers.
Todd Jackson last in line
Ryan Hibbard I can agree with that.
Shame on the night>>>>
Cozy powell such an underrated drummer RIP .
silver black respect
silver black yes he is
Not underrated. Plenty of people consider him one of the best drummers in the world. _Plenty._
ziiofswe i know that but when people discuss great drummers in rock / hard rock /metal , very rarely or never is cozy mentioned, when someone brings him up , everyone is like , " yea right , i forgot about him " . Even when he was alive , he was rarely mentioned. Thats what i mean, with being underrated .
One of the best rock drummers ever, he was not underrated! He was extremely well respected. Silly comment.
love you guys! the basic story of the song is that this wizard made his people create a structure so high that he could "rise" to heaven. He tries, and he falls and dies.
Another great review guys! You've done some Dio, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, but you are still missing one of the greatest metal singer, Mickael Kiske! Please do some Helloween nexti time (We Got The Right, Halloween, I Want Out, Future World... ).
Sylvain Villet yes
