“by the way, if you don’t know what i’m talking about” for one millisecond i lived in a fantasy world where i don’t know what booktok is, and for that i thank you
Ur welcome, I wanted to give u that peace
"J D Barkley, are these influencers in the room with us right now?"
HELP
What's wild is that... if he had just said "Hey! This is a campaign for a book of the spicy variety, so suggestive promos are not only allowed but encouraged! We want people to see this book and think sexy." and people would have probably just went "yeah, that tracks." At most they would have said "I'll pass on this one."
But dude got himself so worked up over the IDEA of it, he decided to force his porn fanfic on people in a business email.
He thinks "outside the box" but his characters are named Abby and David 😂
The apology is giving Chat GPT 😂💀
makes sense given that the cover for the book is ai 💀💀
@@nyoomeck OH NOOOOOO
@@nyoomeckI was wondering why the jigsaw elements of it looked so scuffed, if it's actually done by AI that would explain that
The video suggestions are, too
@@kieransky it 100% is, it’s crazy too bc how much work is it to edit jigsaw pieces over a woman’s face?? he’d just be paying for the stock images too, it’s so dumb
Would a PR firm EVER have access to someone's actual email account in this way? Does that even make sense?
maybe they do when that person is also the co-founder of said PR firm
seems every shady author is trying to outdo the previous one...
cait corrain still gags me tho
@@withcindy cait corrain surely did the most... but the one who claimed she had a copyright on the sun really had me thinking it was a prank
anyone who puts THAT many ellipses in a single paragraph is bound to be sus
.......true.......
Cindy talking about book drama has to be one of my all time favorite things
glad u revel in watching the trainwreck
The "I'm a husband, I'm a father" reminded me of that scene in Barbie that Will Ferrell says: "I'm the son of a mother. I'm the mother of a son. I'm the nephew of a woman aunt. Some of my best friends are Jewish!" just bc Barbie was upset bc there was no women in charge.
GIRL!!!! that email you received at the end is so funny 💀 why do men ...
Who's Julia you ask?
You wouldn't know her, she goes to another school 😂
shes from canada!
she lives in vancouver
@@alanis0533with her sister Alberta
okay what got me (besides everything) was the “sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you!” as if it’s benign or a typo rather than super creepy and not okay at all 🙃
What really gets to me is the way it says like, "Barker will review each video, triggering payment" and that you're "free to post" only AFTER the video is submitted to him directly. Like... Not payed for publishing the video (ie actually *advertising* the book), literally payed for sending a spicy video directly to him - like clearly this whole stunt was never about advertising to begin with, but if that's not a smoking gun I don't know what is
The way he literally admits to viewing the women by saying ‘promotional material’ is insane
The first email was egregious enough, didn't need the "Sorry my cousin wrote that/logged into my account" ass excuse as well. And yeah listening to the premise it does sound exactly like Nerve, the book, so idk if there's more to it than making it 'spicy'
ive been in the community for 5 years but this one genuinely shocked me
damn that says a lot
Cindy, you‘re like the opposite of the Avatar, the antiavatar, because every single time I need your content most, you deliver! 😩
Love that!
Author tea is some of the wildest tea I come across. I mean fake your own death, make sock puppet accounts to bash your competition, ask for n00ds type of insane tea levels. And all of that was just in the past year.
22:15 Before you described what he looked like I knew that man had a fedora or two 😭😭😭
Sometimes stereotypes are true
I feel like I need to know if he also has a pet lizard. Idk why but it’s giving me pet lizard vibes 😂😭
this is such a small thing but the "10-15 seconds of footage of the influencer holding or pointing to the book" is insane, that is such a long amount of time to do that! Just no concept of what makes for good advertising on even the smallest level.
My "men who write dark/sexual thrillers are generally creeps" belief remains unchanged
perhaps the most offensive part of the email is the terrible ideas itself
* wrestling announcer voice * And here come Cindy with the INDUSTRY KNOWLEDGE!!!!
I’d have so much more respect for him if he just straight up said “yeah I’m a misogynist creep with no self awareness. I fucked up and will be seeking therapy”
OMG, that email that you got feels like something written in a bad novel. How do people have this much confidence?
"Show him your body, and he'll DECIDE if he wants to pay you for it" WHAT? That's gotta be one of the biggest red flags when it comes to doing any type of work for someone,,,That's crazy
Idk why but the tea is much~ more interesting when Cindy talks about it 👌👌👌
haha glad i can make it more interesting!
"It's called subtext, something writers are USUALLY aware of. " I love you
21:30 it’s the “LOL”s for me, I don’t know why they are giving me the most damage
and yet none of us are laughing 🤡
Cindy: But when it comes to the music it's always your choice.
Me: He learned from Rhysand.
Cindy: He really learned from Rhysand.
Me: 🤯🤯🤯
rhysand will never make us forget
"im a husband. im a father" im even more concerned now, you're not helping your case, dude
this is exactly what i needed before my philosophy class. questioning what’s wrong with humanity ^2
this is real philosophy
Cindy keeps me up-to-date of all the onlime book drama without me ever opening tiktok. The sheer audacity of authors like Barker to pull this shit really shouldn't surprise me, but it still does.
The email you received is INSANE
is there something in the water that makes men like this so boldly inappropriate? like im embarrassed FOR him
every time i hear about this kinda book drama im always reminded of the tweet "whenever you get in a twitter beef with someone it's only a matter of time before someone starts talking like sephiroth in your replies." because ive yet to hear of an author acting normal after criticism
LOLLL HELPP
Putting all the creepiness aside (which, like, how can you actually?), I love how he said “I trust influencers to market my book better than I can!” And then two seconds later he said “make a video exactly like this with these specific shots, blah blah blah” like stfu sir 🙄🙄🙄
Not Rhysand catching smoke too 🤣🤣 I need more book drama to be explained to me by Cindy
Another day, another man with The Audacity.
This is the equivalent of a film director asking film reviewers on TikTok to post an Onlyfans remake of their movie wtffffffff
Cindy u don't understand, I need your videos to keep moving forward in life
You got this bb
And the thing is, his book sounds kind of interesting, but now I'll never even consider reading it. What a loser
If the absolute perviness of this campaign didn’t get me, the goddamn WattPad writing style did. Reading the phrase “naughty bits” in a professional PR email has taken 10 years off my life.
That email cindy got is genuinely unhinged 😭 it’s crazy to think that people like that exist in real life and see nothing wrong with the way they act😭😭
i remember you posting that email on twitter 😭😭 how can someone be SO WEIRD and actually have the guts to hit 'send'
i don't know how else to describe this, but the guy who emailed you reminds me SO much of the bronies i knew in high school in 2012
Omg I see it
What is with authors lighting their careers on fire? Are they cold??
it's the "i won't tell you what exactly i said to get in trouble, but i will tell you exactly where and when you can buy my book" in the 'apology' for me. SIR. no one wants this garbage 😭
The whole I’m a husband, I’m a father thing is so wild to me cuz like women aren’t just in relation to u like sir pls 😭
His book plot gave me a flashback to multiple animes.
*The tea is exceptionally good today*
- Wendy Williams
"I'm husband, I'm a father and now a creep" see he just didn't finish the phrase. 😂😂
But seriously the police should raid his laptop because I'm worried he's sketchier than we think.
