I don’t think many know about this, but Aladdin is a story originated in Iraq, and I for one got so pissed that they made EVERYTHING look Indian. And I can tell you, not only did they throw in a sloppy Jaffar, but they didn’t even bother to research any of the culture or music in Iraq
omg yes finally someone said it
Actually it's not based on one particular place or even country. The original story wasn't even in the original 1001 nights and was added by a Frenchman and it's not exactly made to be like "Yes THIS is exactly where it's set." Plus the original by the Frenchman calls it a Chinese city, though it sounds more Middle Eastern. Like making it South Asian/Middle Eastern is actually the most accurate you are going to get. And I would say in that regard it's fine
@Weeb Life intriguing.
@@weeblife8657 It's still a part of the Arabian Nights, which is Middle Eastern that comprises of several cultures that are not same with Indian Culture. Plus have you seen a map? India and Middle East is seperated by Persian countries.
Yes, thank you! As an Indian I hate it when people think Aladdin is Indian because it completely discounts Persian/Arabic culture AND is an inaccurate representation of Indian culture too. Basically, it's harmful to both sides.
If Genie looks like THIS in the film, imagine what Ursula is gonna look like in The Little Mermaid remake! RIP Thicc Ursula
SuperMarioSullivan UK she will be the hero because Disney would get fat shit these days for portraying a “plus size” female as evil
You know abby lee from dance moms?
@@creed8712 i mean yeah people are tired of good looks = good person
It's Opera.
Oh that poor unfortunate soul
The song "Speechless" is kind of rough in the movie, but I swear to you the studio version SLAPS. It is honestly my favorite song of the entire Aladdin soundtrack, and I include the OST as well.
Will Smith really made the role his own, but I wish they would have kept to that philosophy during his SONGS. He is literally The Fresh Prince, why wouldn't they let him do more rapping as opposed to singing? That way he comes out a lot more natural and plays to his strengths (you know, like the original Genie did).
And this is my hottest of hot takes about this entire film: **A WHOLE NEW WORLD IS BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL.**
Okay, hear me out. The original version DEFINITELY is a more magical moment, but in terms of song quality, the 2019-version has a much better mix and levelling. Also, I appreciated that we didn't go all over the world and just flew all over the kingdom, because in this movie Jasmine's main motivation is no longer to live life on her own terms but to be Sultan and lead her people. So of course Aladdin understanding her desire shows her what she truly cares about seeing, her people.
Things that I really liked - Shows Tiger licking Aladdin's face.
Are you trying to tell us something Tamatoa person.
taste of a liar
NO ONE REMEMBERES ACHMED!
*looks at title*
Well you're not wrong...
The commercial for this says it's "visually stunning" and I'd agree for the wrong reason.
Never stop finding the most creative ways of saying "Yeah, this movie is _just_ *okay* and I'm okay with the series of events unfolding at this moment"
The part that pisses me off about this is how technically speaking, Aladdin is supposed to be set in an Arabic country (Moroco) but they bollywood-ize it. It feels like they are like "oh well all these ethnic cultures are the same, let's just make the one people like most for the money". It's like if Pocahontas was Asian, or Mulan was Hispanic; not even trying to have any representation, even when they're representing an Arab story.
omg yes like the story isn't indian
@@helloitsme3982 Exactly! like i don't even care about the actress being Indian, i don't care about cultural appropriation and what not. What pisses me off is the imperial point of view that since all these countries are vaguely close to each other they're the same place. It's like saying Mexican and American culture are the same because they're close and disregarding the millenniums of history before.
@@Mikasacusfan 100% agree. i didn't feel an Arab vibe from anything, since I'm Arab myself. everything was Indian. like the temple, the market, and in the prince Ali song wtf was that obnoxious turban that will smith was wearing? and the turbans all the other men were wearing? that's not Arab that's Indian. and the elephant aladdin was on. seriously an elephant why not a camel. but yeah they got the country that the story is based completely wrong and they didn't do their research at all
Heck, I'm Indian and I HATE when people equate Aladdin with Indian culture because it's misrepresenting both Middle Eastern culture AND Indian culture. I can't imagine how actual Arab people feel.
@@s29nv1sr1 Yeah I am arab which is why I'm pissed. I was really excited to see my culture represented in a movie but instead got a completely different movie. Like I don't mind Bollywood, I really don't but if I wanted to watch a bollywood movie, i'd watch a different movie then this. They're all much better than this crap.
😔 in my opinion, I really didn't like how Jafar was in this movie. He just felt so bland and less intimidating. He didn't do anything either?? Like hhh The movie was alright, besides Aladdin and a few of the characters being cringey as hell.
I was really disappointed in Iago too. He was barely a part of the movie and just wasn't really enjoyable.
If were being honest the og jafar wasnt specail either there was no big cool thing except for well threatening peaple
@@elisabethfanfan9560 OG Jafar is defo a top 10-5 Disney villain, his immorality and cunning nature makes him an enjoyable villain in the film, especially when he goes full out crazy once he gets the lamp.
@@ary5368 but thats his weakness crazy doesmt always work
@@elisabethfanfan9560 But I'd say it did work for Jafar. It's subjective. Voice actor for Jafar was also amazing, Jonathan Freeman was perfect. His relationship with Iago and when they plot their plans together make him a lot more human than some other Disney villains which are just EVIL EVIL EVIL. It just makes him a bit different. He does get a lot of screen time for a villain which i guess allows these kind of scenes to happen. Live action Jafar is atrocious in every way. They took away everything that made Jafar a good villain.
@@ary5368 Agreed. I think the biggest problem was how they didn't allow Jafar to actually seem like a threat. Like in the original where he's able to successfully mind control the sultan a few times. In the remake he doesn't get any actually intimidating moments.
I liked the Prince Ali song. The part where they al just go “prince aaaaaaaaaaaa” and then wait for the king so that they can make the beat drop was amazing

Aladdin and his Stand, 「FRIEND LIKE ME」
I actually like the songs in the Broadway musical even tough Friend Like Me does overstay its welcome a little bit.
It took me a while to get around to seeing this movie, but I'd say it's one of the better remakes. There are some things it did better than the 1992 movie, and some things it didn't, but overall, it had its own charm and didn't feel like it was just going through the motions.
Why would anyone waste their time with this when you could go see John Wick 3, Detective Pikachu or Endgame for the 10th time instead?
detective "pichaku"?
Soop I think Pj Dixon mistyped Detective Pikachu.
I just wish we didn’t have to do this as an alternative when Disney half-asses something. Now if you excuse me, I’m going to add “King of the Monsters” on my list.
@Viktoria Magrey I 100% agree with you

It felt so out of place in the movie. Especially when the guards started disappearing. It was definitely time for it to end.

When i went to watch Aladdin in the movie theater the screen had malfunctioned or something and turned the movie off right before a whole new world... i think it was a sign from the theater telling us to leave
I wanted to hear more about your opinions on the broadway musicals :D
I thought this film was gonna turn out to be terrible so "painfully average" makes it a bit better. I'm still not paying to see this in theaters though. I refuse to support these live action adaptions. Disney needs to get it together and start making better movies- they're better than this.
The "touching" of treasure was swapped for "taking" of treasure, so that was the only complaint that was invalid
My shopping mall is slowly dying too
In general, I wish Disney would create new stories instead of remaking old time Classics that never needed to be remade.
I actually really like the live action remake, dare I say it just as much as the original. It’s funny, it’s full of action, the songs are great, I think the actors were good(except for jafar) and I absolutely love the first song and the Prince Ali one and there visuals. The only bad parts are jafar, his terrible acting and the fact he didn’t do much at the end
Schaffrillas Productions and Chris are the Ice Climbers of Twitter LOL
I hate that my family is forcing me to watch this movie tomorrow. Also, watch till the credits to hear DJ Khaled's amazing voice.
I personally really liked the remakes music, it's probably cuz I have like no nostalgia for the original, and I do have to disagree with you on Will Smith singing voice, it's not amazing but he hits the notes.
Genie, Gene, and Oscar made me lose it
Disney when bad movies still get money:
It’s like printing my own money! :D
They should remake all the ps1 and 2 Disney and Pixar games to ps5 because imagine playing toy story in nice graphics
Can you please review the Broadway version of Aladdin?
I was waiting a "o thats i" joke in this video
I'm surprised that this joke wasnt here
I for one love the music additions in the musical but I'll excuse your momentary lapse in judgement
the stuff they added with Jafar, with him being a thief and him climbing up to a position of power through any means was kind of engaging. Until the screenwriters started rubbing the whole, 'I'm going to take revenge on that neighboring state because they wronged me. And I'm overcompensating for everything' thing in our face for way to long. It started to get embarrassing. The sets and the costuming and the bright colors and the Bollywood feel and honestly, Will Smith, were what drove me and my friends to go see that movie. And yes, there were some goods things. The opening scene (not the one of the boat that one is stupid and unnecessary and takes away from the reveal in the end. Seriously. Just have a panning shot over the desert with a sunrise, into the city as Genie tells the story to "some" children, and then later reveal that they are his children and then have a happy prologue) but the opening scene with Alladin and Abu escaping the guards was great. We had so many laughs in the movie with the editing and the delivery of some lines and the scene with the jams was comedy gold
I OBJECT to Jafar not having emotions
The actor is Dutch, us Dutches simply don't HAVE emotions. We're like Westworld where people come to get high and visit the best festivals. I thought Jafar was hilarious, because he was like Keanu Reeves in Much Ado About Nothing, a villain whose view of the world is clearly much darker than the people around him and he served as a nice 1/3 paralel, between Genie and Aladdin. My friend suggested that we could see Genie as someone who used to be like Jafar, imprisoned himself like Jafar did, but grew through the years to be a better person. Now he wants to prevent Aladdin from becoming like him, in turn saving himself :D is cute yall

Jafar was so cringey I almost couldn’t stand it. There was something about his voice that didn’t fit.
He was just so scrawny looking
The original Jafar voice AND look was cartoony as hell. If done so over the top as in the original movie, this can be great. It's less of a "compelling" villain, but seeing pure unrealistic evil drawn in a ridiculous way is entirely fun.
If you then turn that unrealistic evil-looking guy into a casual-looking dude with a normal voice, without actually adding anything interesting in terms of backstory (as opposed to what the movie Maleficent successfully did), then your villain is utterly boring.
It's the curse of Disney remakes to begin with. Capitalizing on nostalgia without understanding or caring why the first movie was so loved to begin with. Exchanging comical cartoon-animation for bland realism for the sake of realism is, well, BLAND. Who the fuck knew?
@@RedFloyd469 i have seen very little of the movie aside from this video, but i can tell that was a bland performance. IMO, you could transition into live action perfectly by just having the actor be dramatic. let him release so much ham he could open a butchers shop

Jafar wasn't made for live-action, and he never feels like a threat.
the whole point of Jafar is that he's so over the top, and just fun to watch his exaggerated movements, voice acting, etc. if your villian compelling story wise, they gotta be damn fun to watch. jafar was fun in the animated version, but boring both story wise AND appearance wise in the live action remake.
Atleasts they tried to make a good Jafar instead of that CGI version of scar which looked like Disney had given up on life
I prefer Jafar shouldve been a corrupt but intelligent prime minister not sure whether it was in the movie but the equivalent title of grand vizier in the ottoman empire

The Olive Garden and shopping mall comment is so real.
Oh
Too real! I'm from Macon, GA, and The Macon Mall (on the Westside) is nothing like it used to be. Barely any stores left to shop in. The food court reduced to a handful of restaurants. The stores that left either relocated to the new mall in North Macon (The Shoppes @ River Crossing) or to other locations around the city. And Olive Garden was across the street from The Macon Mall; now, it's across from the new mall.😞
Ten shops in the local mall here have closed within the last year. The mall is so dead and sad looking.
Are there any local movie theaters that ARENT falling apart?
@@marshalinehamismother Better question is: how many movie theaters are left standing? In Macon, there were at one time 6 major theaters; now, it's down to one major (AmStar16) and two independent theaters [Douglas (historic) & Cox Capitol].
To be honest, Will Smith was actually a good Genie. He didn't try to copy Robin Williams and made Genie very different from the original. He was one of the best parts of the movie to me.
When I watched it I *really* didn't want to like it but I did. Besides some botched songs and a bad choice for Jafar, it was enjoyable.
minions gameing Impersonations? can you talk about this a little more?
I think that they should have catered to smiths rapping skills instead of making him try to do what Williams did. Williams was one of a kind, and smith can’t really replicate that
The main thing I’m pissed about is how in the credits they have Will Smith sing “A Friend Like Me” in his own style with his own personal flair and they didn’t use it in the movie.
No ur wrong lol he did try to copy Robin Williams
Yeah it’s not that it’s horrible, it’s just nothing that really was added by making it live action. It’s still an amazing story, and I liked Jasmines solo. But they didn’t ADD to the story besides giving Jasmine some more three dimension, but the execution was so bad I felt that it was forced.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved the actor, she was fantastic! My issue was the overuse of “strong female lead cliches” which just left me disappointed. A little more story telling or a bit more from the director could have helped that a bit.
I loved will smith’s genie for the exact reason. He knew he couldn’t top Robin Williams’ performance, and he didn’t try to. He played Genie as his own character instead of a parrot. I was super impressed to see that.
So Jafar becomes the most powerful sorcerer and whats the first thing he do!? 🤔
He makes his bird bigger😐

The thing I like about will Smith’s Aladdin is that it doesn’t feel like he was copying robin Williams. On the other hand the song ‘speechless’ had no business being in the movie there was literally no reason for it.
I'd question your speechless argument because in the remake they give jasmine an arch revolving being looked down because she's a woman. With the song, she decides she's had enough being told to shut up and not doing anything about it.
@@quedolapantera7623 Personally I liked the song separately from the movie but like... we got all of that from the rest of her time on screen, and the song really didn't fit the tone of the rest of the movie? I liked how much respect and originality Will Smith put into his rendition of the genie. He didn't try to copy Robin's performance but expressed his love for it.
He was an amazing Geenie, RW probably could not have done a much better job in the Live Action department and vice versa.
The Will Smith Genie is at least better than almost everything else about the remake.
Oh wait, but the best thing about the otherwise awful movie is the early credits scene for feeling like a Bollywood music video.
They didnt write Will Smith's musical numbers to fit his style or what he was best at which is what they did for Robin. Dont get me wrong I love the original and no one could live up to Robin but if they wrote the original to fit what the voice actor was best at it didn't make sense to me, but they put his version in the credits! Just use the version you put in the credits. It wouldve made it more entertaining and overall a better movie.

Well, he also makes reviews so that we can have a rationally founded opinion on the quality of a film, so we may decide whether to watch it ourselves or not.
If one reviewer can prevent, say, a hundred thousand subscribers from going to see a bad or average movie, this basically ensures Disney receives less money than they would have, had there not been reviewers like that.
Hence why reviews, you know, exist.
@Variana Grande That has nothing to do with it. There are plenty of lower budget movies that ate great. It has to do with the fact that the film companies care about money more that making quality movies.

That's actually a clever use of the score. I didn't recognize it when I watched the movie.
I'm quite sure Jasmine is wearing high heels before they were invented
But they could have been invented already, it's A WHOLE NEW WOOOORLD!
But you have to see the lion king remake!
who else is going to call it Painfully average if you don't?!
Personally I'm only watching it because they brought back my boi Hans Zimmer
I'm going to cry for that lion king remake, and not in the 'it's so beautiful I'm going to cry' way.
@@qinlongfei Yeah, aside from the score (hopefully), the film is going to hurt
Ill call it painful garbage.
It's directed by Favreau. I doubt it'll be bad.
I get some real Bollywood vibes from this.

They should have tried to stick to a more Bollywood style. Like the dance at the end credits. Imagine a whole retelling like that, would be different enough to stand on it's own and at least be an interesting attempt.

You should watch the best adaption of Aladdin by far: Twisted, The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier (from Starkid)!

"This is all your fault, Jafaar!"

Mr. Friendship that’s a fact
Ahhhh that's true
That's a pretty low bar, though
*Its rewind time*
AH, HHHHAAAA!!! OH, THAT'S HOT! THAT'S HOT.
Now this is epic.
But do you want to know what would be more epic?
Reviewing Sherlock Gnomes.
Is it bad that I was actually okay with that movie?
5/10: No Fresh Prince references.
What about the rap part?
The magic carpet was doing the Carlton during the End Credits
This was meh. Would’ve preferred a live-action Shark Tale remake.
Omg imagine a live action remake of shark tales that would be trualy amazing
NoSleep Fangirl it sounds like it
Imagine if the Shark Tale remake was just Will Smith in a fish costume beating up a bunch of guys in shark suits
That would be really funny.
I'm imagining this and now I won't sleep again, thank you
Lion king 2019 makes Aladdin 2019 look like a masterpiece
I agree
Aladdin was better even before the lion king remake
Its the best remake i seen just
Jafar makes me wanna jump of da roof

I'm just excited for Aladdin honestly. And yeah I loved the movie

excuse me, you hated the original lion king? *run away Zoe and never return!*
im here from the future to tell you that animals cannot emote.
Correction, when Aladdin is speaking to the cave of wonders, he says “Don’t TAKE anything besides the Lamp.” So really during the whole scene with the magic carpet and Aladdin climbing up the pillar, the only thing that TAKES something is Abu, who takes the red jem. So that’s why the cave of wonders crumbles, because it was after Abu TAKING the jem.
Can we just talk about how Disney felt the need to elevate already strong female characters into "even stronger" by basically making their whole personality "badass female character"?
OG Jasmine was already strong. She knew when to speak for herself and exactly what she wanted. She knew her own worth and she wanted a suitor who would accept her as a person, rather than for her title. But in the live action, Jasmine needs an ambition. She wants to be the sultan. And she positively insults all men (unlike in the animated version, where she only insults the over the top haughty princes) and has an entire song that talks about not allowing herself to be silenced when there were no instances of anyone trying to silence her. Because, Jasmine isn't strong unless she shoves into our face how bigoted the society is and how she's a woman who should be independent and free.

The Aladdin movie: JAM XD
Everyone in the theater:🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂👌
But you have to admit that joke landed.😂
I found the jam scene abjectly hilarious TBH, mostly because it came out of absolutely nowhere and I have a weird attraction to cringe humor in small amounts.
@@nellieb6585 - "But you have to admit that joke landed."
It was pretty ok the first time, like, it was a decent addition and a unique scene of him trying to pretend to be a prince, but then they just kept milking it, and milking it, and it only took about two more lines about jam before it stopped being funny and they just kept going.
@@KingBobXVI You're right, it went on for an absurd amount of time but it seemed to be more awkward and funnier the more it went on, I think the whole point is that Aladdin is awkward as a prince and has no sense of when to stop
There wasn't a single person that laughed in the theater for the whole movie
During the scene where Aladdin is introducing himself to Jasmine made me feel SO much second hand embarrassment
Second embarrassment is something I used to experience a lot as a kid when watching movies, so I feel you there, buddy.

One thing that really annoys me about the trailers for the trailers for these films is how they always take a gritty, serious approach, even if the original was more comedy focused.
But hey, if you gave this movie a shot, and it turned out somewhat well, I'll probably do the same.
@Roger Dodger Shame, because there was a time many could argue that Disney films always had something to offer to everyone, regardless of their age.
Even as a child myself, I never went along with the stigma that age ratings, be they for movies, TV shows, video games and more, dictated the only audience that should be experiencing it.
@Roger Dodger
Disney has always been like that, seriously Walt could be quite the ruthless businessman if he wanted to. Remember what happened to Max Fleischer studios?
"Aladdin (2019) is a movie that exists" You are technically correct. The best kind of correct!
What about Genie's shoe-horned girlfriend?
I thought it was a nice inclusion Incase you read this a year later. And I don’t really think she is shoe horned
I mean in reality she probably would’ve been an old woman.
Even if she was unnecessary, she had a fun character
I thought she was a funny character. I wasn't mad about it.
A high-school in my town did Aladdin for their mid-term musical, and the Genie in that was better than Will Smith.
