I'm so tired of reading negative comments about the MX-5 ND coming from people who don't know sh*t about cars... illiterates that are unable to appreciate features such as power to weight ratio (lightest car in its class), weight distribution (one of the few sports cars in the market with perfect 50:50), pleasure of driving (real driving as the opposite of doing a straight line in a turbo charged car fitted with electronics that do all the things for you), reliability (as in atmosferic engines without turbos), RWD (impossible to find rear wheel drive cars for this price, at least in Europe), lowest center of gravity in its price range, the best manual transmission in a car under 30k, the best convertible under 30k, the best mileage in an atmosferic engine over 150bhp.... I hope some of those illiterates will read and learn enough to be able to admire the CAR OF THE YEAR award in the world, BEST DESIGN OF THE YEAR award by red dot and the BEST SELLING CONVERTIBLE EVER. It's being praised by hundreds of experienced motor journalists all over the world but some people actually think that they know more than them! I can't help to feel sorry for all those ignorants.

this exact thinking it was drive me insane about people. This car is sooooo much damn fun to drive. It is fun at all times even just cruising it is just a blast you cant help but smile. This car is the ONLY car that has given me the same giddy feeling that riding my motorcycle can give me.

Probably the best and most comprehensive review of the ND that I've seen! Love the detailed audio of all the components! That stock muffler sounds great! I am buying one, but I may wait to see if 2018 brings changes.
Great review. Well done, and very through!! I recently got the Club version. A couple things I don't like are the missing glove box in the front, and the fact that the storage box by the cup holders doesn't have a key to lock it with. And I am not still 100% sure that I like the electric steering, I guess because it "feels" so much different than in the NC. I use this car for my daily run around, and it serves me just fine. I would have no problem taking this on a long road trip. It would have been nice if there were a small donut tire, though, but I do understand the weight considerations. Over all, I would give this vehicle a solid "A", and I like it better than my previous NC, even with the smaller and lower sizing.

This only happens on your videos, but I love watching you.

Worst thing about this car is that in the UK, there is nowhere to rest your left leg when driving if you want to move your leg closer to you rather than using the dead pedal due to the intrusion of the transmission. Its also incredibly cramped for an averaged height male (5ft 10 to 6ft 2) and the headroom is limited in the RF coupe model
I love watching your videos because you're from the same area as me. I know exactly where Skyland Automotive is and I could tell that you test drove it on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'm from Asheville so sometimes I can tell the area you're in. Just an extra reason for me to watch your awesome videos.
He would probably need an owner to provide a clean example. NAs are only really available from private owners, as I'd imagine most dealers have no interest in carrying a 20+ year old car with little refinement and safety.
+Chrome Smart Car Thanks. I like where it is right now. I went the budget friendly route with good tires, minor chassis stiffening, and better brake pads. FM frame rails and HD rolls bars are awesome for reducing cowl shake and improving refinement.
I like the fiat much better. The miata is sporty and pretty but i would've preferred a dual tip exhaust yo wrap it all together. Great video of course! Hoping you'll do a 2016 optima sxl in the near future!
People saying the car is under powered have never driven scca or any sort of competitive driving. These cars are fantastic. Go buy a mustang if you only care about going fast in a straight line. But see what happens on a real race track...

God that gauge cluster is a Christmas tree on startup. My car only shows the check engine light, battery light, and cold/hot water temp light. That's it.

The MX5 really is the definitive small sports car and in its current ND form is as great as ever. Autocar magazine (UK based) rate this as a five star car, and Autocar is harsh critic indeed. Interestingly, in this weeks issue 17th August, they tested the MX5 against the Fiat 124 Spyder. They concluded that the MX5 was the superior car (by a fair margin) with the Fiats handling and engine being some way off that of the Mazda's.
Kyle, why you press brake pedal if handbrake is already pulled on and clutch while in neutral gear? ;/ Is it your habit? :p BTW please make new Volvo S90/V90 review. Like your videos!
You might be able to make it work with some modifications but I wouldn't do it to a new car. Many tall dudes with the old ones remove padding from the seat and say it does miracles.

Great review. Well done, and very through!! I recently got the Club version. 124 Spider is a rebadged Mazda Miata.
Not true. The Fiat has different bodypanels, is longer and utilises Fiats Multiair engines.
That sounds pretty good for a 4-cylinder engine!
