The Bodyguard was “the movie” for me! Loved the chemistry between Whitney and him! I’ve watched that movie about 30 times!

He achieved his own dreams by first getting good parts to directing and producing films . He directed epic films that had a longer length of time though Waterworld got bad reviews, fans liked it . It didn't stop him from being a top star for almost 40 yrs .

I was on a first date, & when he recognizes his Dad & asks to have a catch. I was begging myself not to cry. The line is said & I lost it (my father had recently passed) completely. The girl comforted me & she was very impressed that I allowed her to see how vulnerable I was. My father was my coach & we were very close.

Damn. That's a tough one. Sorry for your loss and yeah, that would get you hard. My dad was never around so that line didn't particularly get me in the feels like that, but the way he says it.... almost makes me water up.

He's my favorite actor of all time. I've been entertained of his films, but my favorite is Dances With Wolves. I consider it an absolute masterpiece, on a par with the most iconic films of all time, like The Godfather, On the Waterfront, Apocalypse Now, Rebel Without a Cause, Ordinary People etc. And he's a musician and a guitar player, like me. Perfect!

Kevin Costner was the first real superhero for me. In the early 90s with Robin Hood POT and the Bodyguard and as a 7-9 year old thought he could do anything. A traditional leading man you don’t see too much of now

  • @rolanddeschain6089

I do not know why but for some reason Kevin Costner is pretty undervalued these days.
I mean, even if they are not part of the A-League today, everyone knows that Bruce Willis was a big star. Or that Nicolas Cage was a big thing in the 90s.
But Costner seems, at least in the general public, almost forgotten among young people.
From the late 80s until the mid-90s he was just THE shit. I would say he was almost the biggest star.
He shot Dancing with Wolves, Robin Hood, JFK, Bodyguard, Perfect World and Wyatt Earp IN.A.ROW!
Quite apart from all his other hits. And all without a sequel, without a cinematic universe or a hit series that would have pushed its popularity.
Just good acting and a smart project selection. Those were the times.

I've always thought it may have been because he was usually in "different" movies. Little action, little stimulated sex scenes (Revenge was awesome) , long, and mostly heartfelt. I'm a fan, so I love his over 90 minute movies. I think most peeps couldn't do it. He wasn't the muscle head, the sex stallion, the adrenaline junkie, or the emasculated wus. He was "different" even when he tried not to be.

    • @daveruda

well... i don't really put a whole lot of stock in what young people think anyway. what they usually say is 'oh that movie is just too old' or some other ignorant nonsense. Can lead them to water, can't make em drink. Their loss

Open Range, Dances With Wolves are some of my favorites but he was not in the best western ever. That goes to either Tombstone, Unforgiven or maybe an older Clint Eastwood western. But they are up there. All in the same group I'd say.

For me, the Field of Dreams moment is me and my Grandfather, who was the one that took me to my first (and 10th, and 20th...) major league game. He loved baseball, it rubbed off on me. Working in Dubuque, IA in 1989 near where the movie was made, and where it was premiered at the JFK Mall Theatre in Dubuque, I was in the audience the first night the movie was shown to the public. I didn't tear up, or weep a bit, I actually broke down completely. Full on cry. And it still does it to me today, 30 years later. Thank you, Kevin.

I saw Field of Dreams on a plane in 1990. I was a super fan of Bull Durham but for some reason, I wasn't looking forward at watching another Costner baseball movie; not sure why I felt that way.
I saw the movie and I'm close to balling on this plane ride home. I had to tell myself not to cry. When I got back, I went to my local video store and rented it right away. I must have watched it 3 times in a 2 day span. That movie was magic. The score, the actors and the line..."Dad, you want to have a catch?"

1:12 "To my mind, the biggest star I ever worked with.....Sean Connery." Wow. I bet Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood, Anthony Quinn, Robert Duval, Gene Hackman, Tommy Lee Jones and Donald Sutherland would be happy to hear that.
Btw, Costner did Fandango, American Flyers, Silverado, Untouchables, Field of Dreams and Bull Durham IN A ROW. (And only a couple mediocre films separating JFK, Revenge and Dances With Wolves from Durham.) I can't think of another actor who had a winning streak like that. Even Pacino, De Niro, Eastwood, etc, made bombs in between the classics.

Kevin should have mentioned his role in NO WAY OUT, which is one of his best films IMO. It also showed his sexy vulnerable side and had you rooting for him until the end. Also had the unexpected twist at the end of the movie.

Field of Dreams is great for too many reasons to list. Dances with Wolves was the first real "epic" serious movie I ever watched because I was just a kid at the time and I thought it was amazing. Robin Hood is shit on for not following the book but I love it. It was and still is one of my favorite movies. Costner is an amazing actor and looking back he was a big part of my childhood

I wonder how much Kevin remembers about a film he shot here in Reno, originally titled “Double Down” (later retitled “Stacey’s Knights”)? He was not yet the megastar he became several years after that little D movie. Shot at the Peppermill Casino. I still have the t-shirt I got as part of my pay for working as an extra.
