@@thomaswelcomer8443 Pre - Post, they're all unreliable. I remember back in the 80's, my friends dad had a 911. When I asked about it, he went into a rant about how cr@p it was, and finally he ditched it for a BMW 944/924 Less said the better. I think other channels address the short attention span the most people have. Hands up, I get through a few minutes of an Autogefühl review, and I'm fast forwarding to the driving part. Usually I can't stand the fact that half of a Top Gear, Auto Trader, Auto Express, Carwow, Autocar, MotmanTV, MotorTrendChannel ... reviews nowadays focus on infotainment systems, cup holders and boring "Quirks and Features". But no one really gets technical, because they're all focusing on marketing.

Another great piece. I actually love that Jack and Mark disagree about whether the 911 is worth it's price. It's refreshing to see car reviewers not just idolize the 911, but take it for what it is, and evaluate based on how it actually makes you feel. Thanks for the insight, and really looking forward to the GT3 video!
HandsomeAlex25 you're 100% right. Not only do they disagree but they explain why and respect each other point of you, which is just all the more information for us the viewers. It's a fantastic video.
For 105 grand.. uhhh no. I’ll keep my hellcat and work truck for less than that. I’d say for 80k this car is a buy. But for 100 with no wow factor. That’s a pass. Hell you can buy a new C8 Z06 hardtop convertible with a auto lift and a good selection of options for that price point
Funny, I've long felt Porsche's were incredibly over priced and essentially over-rated. However, my dream car is a 997 Carrera 2S or 4S because at $35-45k for a lightly used example they are actually a fantastic deal. Even at that price range though, you can afford far more powerful and probably more capable performance cars brand new off the lot. If I had 100,000 bucks for a new car I'd be hard pressed not to buy the new Audi RS6 Wagon lol. That car truly has everything I want and seems actually reasonable price-wise given it's overall performance, luxury, refinement and utility.
@@GuyGamer1 Who said anything about resolution dating displays. Most current displays still need resolution increases but the thing that will date current displays is the image quality: Specifically contrast, black quality, viewing angles, vibrancy, etc. Unless automakers use expensive OLEDs it'll be a while before the cheaper tech catches up
Love the clean simplicity of the Porsche design, I never get bored with it, and the amazing reliable predictable drivability. I would not need more than that to enjoy driving.
This is the best car review I've seen on youtube. Real intimate details about the product. Everyone else glosses over these details and focuses on how "cool" they think you'd look driving the car, or just go straight into drifting. I LOVE that you guys took the car up on the lift and explored how its really built
Gentlemen. I’ve owned a 911T for 18 months and it’s been fantastic. But....it’s now up for sale. I’m 60 y.o. next month and my tastes/needs have changed so I value comfort (with quality) higher than performance (with quality). So you’re both right - this is the best ‘all seasons’ performance car, but it depends on where you’re at as whether or not it’s right for you. Incidentally, my next car will probably be an LC500 😉
This video is just beautiful I love how you went into so much detail in this video and the quality of it so good This is why Mr. Geese is one of the best on UA-cam
loss of value is low? Sorry but I don't agree with that. Cayman GT4 in europe lost a lot, 991.1 also lost .. etc. Look the current 992 price. super wide range
First of all, top shelf video as always. As an engineer, Porsche fanatic and track rat I can relate to this video on so many levels. I've been reading and lusting after the 911 since a young age but have never been able to afford one. Thanks to Turo I was able to sample a 991 Carrera S (March) and more recently the 991 GT3 (September) and realize my Porsche dreams. When I sampled the Carrera, honestly I felt completely underwhelmed; a case of meeting your hero. During that trip we had an F Type R and a Bentley Continental GT as well. The Porsche was flat out boring compared to the Jag and paled as a DD compared to the Bentley (obviously). The Porsche was certainly the precision tool in the group, but was also as Mark said, sterile and very basic for the money. I did not see the value, especially coming from the Jag which had an absolute sense of occasion about it. The Porsche listens and does what you tell it to do, the PDK was superior to whatever (ZF I assume) auto the Jag had. But the Jag was sexy, it was loud, the interior had more luxury. The Jag was a sledgehammer to the Porsche scalpel but it was thrilling every time I drove. The Porsche was only thrilling in the twisties and otherwise a fairly mundane DD. I also did notice some turbo lag, in a DD environment most will not notice but in something like autox I can see the 0.25s delay and non linear power annoy me. The GT3? Perfection on wheels. I do think you need some track or performance driving experience to truly appreciate this car, but otherwise I cannot recommend sampling or owning a GT3 enough. The best OEM, non racecar I have ever driven. In fact it felt closer to a race car than a street car. The sound at 9000rpm with a BBi exhaust, the communication through the steering wheel, how damn solid it felt after 23k miles and the throttle response were unreal. The GT3 is worth every penny. This time we also had a GT350 and C7 in the convoy. The GT350 is the best mustang I have ever sampled. I can't tell you the GT3 is 3-4x better than the GT350. The C7 is hardly worth mentioning honestly, fast but nothing special or exciting. But if I had the money and it wasn't my last dollar, the GT3 is what I would take home. Every. Damn. Time. Meet your heroes.
The most technical and mechanical car review on UA-cam! And the best cinematography among all car videos. I never see any other guy using a fisheye lens to get the greatest view under the car.
I can literally listen to these two all day. Easily the best automotive channel on yt. True enthusiast perspective, with the deep technical details for the engineering addicts, and a good sense of humor. Keep it up boys!
The problem with having a modern porsche as your track car, weekend warrior, or what have you, is everything is basically an engine out service and repair. Very difficult to maintain as they get older which in my opinion, makes the affordability of it a bit of a myth
Great video. Really dig this channel and the partnership with Tri. I own a 911 T as my daily driver. It’s pretty damn flawless and very practical. You don’t sit in the car as much as wear it, like a crafted Swiss watch. It’s also a very fast car, which isn’t really mentioned in the video. If you keep it in the rev band, you have all the usable torque you could hope for and that great Porsche flat 6 howl. So, it’s easy to drive it with visceral emotion. And the car can handle that spirited driving 100% of the time while remaining reliable very day. It’s an amazing car, and I can’t think of anything else for 100k that offers rear-engine grip and fun, with beautiful classic looks and bullet-proof everyday high performance. It’s a bargain at that cost. Congrats to whomever wins this one.
The problem though is, I can aspire to own a Corvette - if only a used one. Even used 911s are out of reach until they are so old they start becoming expensive again.
Well, I just bought a 2018 911T with 4700 miles and in a manual. It's my 7th 911 since 1979. My last was a 2012 GTS4 and it was wonderful. I had a 2008 C4S that I found out after selling it was a real one of one car. RS Orange, Factory Aero, Ceramic Brakes, Sport Seats and a LOT more options. MSRP was $125K in 2008 and it wasn't even a GT3. This 911T is gonna be my new favorite. My first 991 and its the 991.2 with all the updates. I still have a 1975 G Model Carerra with 21000 miles that has been relinquished to "show duty" only as it become too valuable to drive around because of wearing all original paint. "Porsche, there's no substitute"
I drove this car for 90-minutes on the track at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta and was AMAZED. Sorry Mr.Geese, I could not disagree with you more... Take this car to a track and you will fall in love. I also drove the GT3 while I was there and I enjoyed the T more. I'm not a professional driver, so the T was much more manageable and fun at any speed. Porsche got the T recipe perfect, hoping that the 992 version is even better. PS - optioning this car without the fixed carbon bucket seats is a crime.
Is there anyone better at doing this UA-cam car review stuff than Mark? His 4C review is still one of my all-time favorites. LOL at his commentary on Peter "the doctor". Hilarious! As for the Carrera T, I didn't keep mine long. I just couldn't get past the 7MT and the exhaust note, both really subpar. Decent car for the money though now that the prices have dropped a good bit.
I really appreciate the efforts you guys went to to support Tri Industries. I'm Chairman of a local disability organisation in Dublin. I got a buzz out of you mentioning Tri - keep it up kids.
Your channel is so well done and I appreciate it so much, that I decided to never skip the ads to make sure you receive the full benefit. Thank you for doing excellent review videos.👍
As a 911 Carrera T owner I was so keen to watch this as I think that savagegeese create some of the best car content on youtube. I get both points of view and in a way it's why I love my car - it's powerful but not crazy, the handling is sublime, yet it is still practical and it is not too flashy. For me at least, it is the perfect sports car.
One of the best reviews of the T I've seen. About the emotional aspect though - I've been fortunate enough to have cycled through a number of interesting and emotional cars - including an NA1 NSX and a CTS-V Wagon MT. Most recently, I sold a GT4 and went to a T (around the same time I started going to the track less). Most internet commentators would scream bloody murder for trading ANY of those cars for a T. IMO, these cars are great "first, second and third dates", but they wear on you over time -- GT4 too stiff and low for crappy canyon roads ... hit a compression hard enough and your strut towers will blow (... google GT4 Strut Tower). CTS-V Wagon has tiny fuel talk and consumption of a Saturn V rocket ... more range anxiety than a Tesla. NA1 NSX impossible to find parts for, and all the master techs are retiring. The T feels like "the keeper". If you put Rear Wheel Steer on it and throw it into some really challenging mountain roads it comes alive. For that type of driving I'd rather have it than a Red Eye or LC500 or even any of the other aforementioned cars. As Porsche moves to digital cockpits, hybridization and eventual electrification (all in wide-body format only), I think this "last of the narrow-body base manual 911s" will most definitely age well.
I love that for this video you chose the 911 with the manual transmission which shows that Porsche still cares about their driving enthusiasts And their manual gearboxes is one of the best They still know how to make the best sports car
One of the best reviewers on you tube.. I think the problem with this channel is that they actually review cars with detail and don't "Hollywood movie" the review.. that says a lot about the current car enthusiast and the knowledge and appreciation of car in general
I found your channel per recommendation of a friend - I love it - it is like finding a hidden gem! I don't know why UA-cam has not suggested it to me before. I really like the on the ramp intro and the whole format and style. Probably one of the most underrated auto-channels - YET! Please keep up the good work - I subscribed !
I usually agree with Mark but I have no problem coming out of my GT3 and driving my GTS cabriolet or Targa. All with different engines and suspensions and transmissions. All different, all perfect in their own way. And yes I realize I’m blessed and spoiled.
“When you are closest to death, you feel the most alive”.......this is the rationale for the Hellcat. If you choose life, you pick the fat bottom girl with the German accent.
So, in summary of analogy, the Redeye is a heavyweight female M.M.A. fighter whose instability drives you a bit spare but makes you feel great anyway, The 911 T, is the fat bottomed, no nonsense german woman that happens to like swing dancing and gives you the feelings of safety, and long term contentment. Even when you aren't dancing with her.
"Fat bottomed girls, you make the rockin' world go 'round". Yeah I'd rather have a car that does everything well than a car that does a couple things great but has a lot of weaknesses too.
To me - just like this fantastic review - this is near car perfection. Mark, thank you very much for the time, effort and talent you put into these exquisite videos.

I'm more of a muscle car fan, but respect Porsche for always keeping the 911 looking like a 911. There is no need to completely change the styling when you have a nice, distinctive design.
I recently purchased a new T with carbon brakes and carbon GT bucket seats / rear seat delete. It was almost 200lb lighter than the tested model. Installed a tune and headers got 100hp more. Car hauls ass, love it....
Loved this and your GT4 video. Great to hear different perspectives. Also refreshing to watch a channel that doesn't feel the need to SHOUT at you in a 5min blast of verbal noise.
I love the driving impressions section. I feel when you guys both talk about cars you have something no other channel has at this time. Please keep up the amazing work. Awesome review my and thanks too all involved. Please keep TRI industries coming as well!
Great balanced review. I never really got the P-Car thing until I drove (and ultimately purchased) a used Boxster S. Fully agree with the comments around engineering and how they age well. I picked up a 2010 model and can't find a squeak, rattle, or other problem anywhere. A well purchased used P car really can't be beat regardless of trim. In for the raffle to support TRI. :). PS, would love to see you guys get your hands on a 987.1 or 987.1 Boxster / Cayman while they still were N/A, before electronic steering, etc.
Maybe an overlooked part of the video, but I loved the intro music; it fit perfectly with the intro shots and the opening for the whole video. Great work as always... a newer Porsche is still on my future ownership list (I lean towards a Cayman variant), so I enjoy hearing both perspectives from you guys about this car and the brand in general.
I've mentioned before on another post, but I am seriously impressed by your production quality. Shooting quality video w/ good sound, and then editing is some really hard work. Plus all the other good stuff, like you guys know what you are talking about. Awesome site....I've recommended to my car geek friends.
I agree with Jack. There is not really anything to dislike. For 2020 it feels like a throwback: (Great) weight/power/balance/value for having fun on a daily basis, that will age very well.
If he is the type that makes a lot of money (not all do), then he needs a great sports car to haul around the trophy wife after he dumps the average woman that helped him through medical school.
Most doctors marry doctors or at least another in the healthcare field. The ones who need a trophy wife/husband were the weird sociopath classmate that studied in a hole for all of med school & didnt socialize throughout residency.
@@johnbacon4997 Mine has been great so far *knock on wood*. Owned it 4yrs now, and other than the water pump failing, it's been just small things that have aged-out like rubber hoses (coolant lines) or cracked plastics (expansion tank). Just make sure to get a good PPI before buying one.
Wonderful review, just donated to TRI. I loved the discussion right before the final thoughts. The 991.2 is gonna look just as refined 20 years from now and that’s good and bad.
I actually agree with Mark here. All the 911s look more or less the same, but the LC looks so unique and it represents the best V8 Japan ever make in this generation. Meanwhile, 911 is more or less the same over the last ten years and will remain this way in the next years.
I've been hoping that there would be a video of the 911T after seeing it in the background for the past several weeks. Thank you so much for putting together a beautiful video with insightful commentary. I appreciate the time spent going over the technical details and the Shoppe segment is one of my favorites and sets this channel apart from the competition. Keep up the great work. I am curious as to your thoughts on the 911T versus the Cayman GT4 you reviewed a couple of years back. Was the GT4 any more emotionally involving?
Jack has really come into his own. I'm glad some of the workload has been taken off ya. I gotta say, I really just can't get enough 911. I'm a young guy in my 20s and still... the 911 is the car I dream of owning. A big part of it is the styling and that pure sound. I know I'm not alone in thinking the Porsche is perfection.
I owned a 997.2. S and agree totally about stepping out of a non GT series 911 into a GT3. The GT3 is simply what a 911 should feel like. I now understand why people say that the only 911 worth having is a GT3.
I wish these two would do every video together. They're great with each other and so much more interesting than turbowski. Jack Singapore actually adds a lot to the conversation and seems to really know what he's talking about.
Great work guys, thank you! Looking forward to the GT3 video! Also, the reason why your videos are so appealing to German viewers, is not just the fact that you also do German cars, but the fact that your videos are really good and informative.
Guys are there no new highs you can take this channel to... your insights and specific knowledge on this car and related history is outstanding, if only most garage salesmen watched this before they tried to sell a Porsche or most cars for that matter. well done I applaud you both and it was actually nice to see a different opinion discussed, I love quality engineering, so would probably always take the Porsche.....I am not even fussed by its looks but the breadth of capability, and again, that's nothing to do with top speeds.. The current GT2RS is my dream car... I will never own. The only weakness I feel german manufacturers have is putting small paddle shifts on the steering wheel instead of the column... that is sinful. but a nice stick shift fixes everything.... most of the time :-)
This Carrera T owner really appreciates this outstanding review. Mark's fine videography really compliments the car's appearance and he captured the sound of the car at full song perfectly. The 2019 911 Carrera T is the last iteration of the base Carrera with a manual transmission option. That'll make it a lot more memorable 10 years from now than an LC 500!
My partner got an LC500 when they first came out - it’s still a head turner but having driven it and seen it every day I’m just not that impressed - I agree, the Porsches just age so well, you could buy a 10 yr old one today and it doesn’t look “old” or out of date at all
Mark does such a great job articulating what makes Porsche so incredible and so frustrating. I drove a 2005 Boxster S and S2000 back to back. On paper, the Porsche should win in every category but if I was putting down cash, it would be for the s2000 EVERY TIME. There's something special about that car that no amount of great mid engine dynamics and badging can overcome. I spent a week with a 718 Cayman S. On paper it should trounce my Mustang GT in every way and yet it simply never did unless I was going 10/10 on tight twisty canyon roads. The rest of the time, sitting in traffic, driving around the city, the Mustang is the superior 'enthusiast' car because it's actually engaging in a playful way the cayman simply isn't. Precision simply isn't as rewarding or entertaining as a burbling v8 that wants to go sideways all the time
Yep - this is a great formula - the Jack/Mark combo, and Turbowski in there when he can to be “Kramer”. I drove the 911T and its one of the few modern cars that excites me but at the end of it for a hundred grand i too struggled and, for me, ill take a boxster Spyder for that cash. Seems out of left field the lc500 discussion but i do not disagree with you. Like you Mark i want to be over the moon excited for 100 grand but modern cars can do so much while being a bit boring. But I wouldn’t fault anybody for buying it - Porsche’s are expensive and the chassis highlights show where the money goes but the 911T is one of the better “values” in Stuttgart’s range.
I like the idea of TRI industries. I wish we had something similar here in northwestern Ohio. I did make the donation for some tickets. I hope they sell three times the value of the vehicle in tickets!
Sure, but to me the Porsche 911 has never looked interesting. I'd rather a car look of a certain time, than a car that has never dared to look interesting over decades and decades
I rented this a few weeks ago. It's fast as hell, but jeez the suspension is so tight on this, and you feel EVERY single bump. It was a little bit over the top. Nonetheless it was a ton of fun to drive with incredible performance.
Objectively, if there had never been a 911 before and this car came out, you would be head over heels with this thing! You put a lot of emphasis on uniqueness, and the fact that these are styled so similarly and predictably removes that unique aspect for you. This car is for a perfectionist. Someone who appreciates refinement and an overall level of quality. An American car is probably going to let them down in terms of overall quality level, so they don't bother. At the end of the day, having a refined precision tool is more important than uniqueness. That is who buys and loves a Porsche. I am a perfectionist who can't afford a Porsche, so I own a Mazda MX-5 (NC). It ticks all the same boxes I value with a significantly lower cost of ownership, albeit with a lower overall level of performance, too. Is it unique? No, not really... but there is no other sports car I would rather own for the money! As a perfectionist, I am always happy with my MX-5.
Porsches are much more refined than your Mx5, it ticks some different boxes there. I know cause I'm in a similar boat (I own an s2000). Drove several Porsches but didn't add up to more fun than my s2k on the week end. That weighs higher in my personal equation of value/cost and it sounds like it's the same for you. Somebody who wants to daily a 911 of course sees this entirely differently and doesn't want too raw/noisy a car.
You just can't compare a GT3 to a Carrera. Ever. GT3's CANNOT be daily driven. That car will beat your to death. No wife is gonna ride around with you in a GT3. But the Carrera gives you similar performance (and sound with aftermarket exhaust) while providing all the daily attributes that most of us need. GT3's are not really a thing. People don't just have GT3's. They're rare, special, uncommon, EXPENSIVE, hard to get. You really have to banish the GT3 from your mind or you'll go insane because it's the greatest car in the world that you can't justify owning.

If they make that variant.. You could buy two brand new C7 Corvettes for that.
I'd much rather look at nicely done physical gauges than a shitty LCD display that will be outdated shortly.
Imagine how much an oem replacement custom screen will cost
AGREED
@iamspyvspy I'd still take the "crappy" red gauges over the crappy LCD screens that are overly bright and annoying anyday.
We've kind of hit the limit on display resolution.
Displays won't look outdated nearly as quickly anymore.

Jack's best review....he is in his element when he geeks out about tech stuff.

This video is just beautiful
I love how you went into so much detail in this video and the quality of it so good
This is why Mr. Geese is one of the best on UA-cam
I think the 911 is a very good used car because the loss of value is low.
The 997.2 Carrera S is my favorite 911.
Greetings from Germany
I'm on board with that's statement, 997.2 are the last shrink wrapped 911 before upsizing to the 991.1 and was blessed with great engine in the S.
For me it’s the .2 GTS if only just for that sexy wide rear end. But I agree, 997.2 is the best (watercooled) 911.
loss of value is low? Sorry but I don't agree with that. Cayman GT4 in europe lost a lot, 991.1 also lost .. etc. Look the current 992 price. super wide range
FreestylerAlbert 911’s absolutely 100% hold their value much better than other cars in the same segment.

Affording to own is one thing, tracking is another
Great video.
This is the benchmark for how a car review should be done. Beautiful work, outstanding attention to detail, can’t wait for the next one.
Very well said Jack. At 13:54, you explain my exact take on 911 vs. something like a C7.
Obsessed Garage it’s sad but true. I’m glad you agree.
The problem though is, I can aspire to own a Corvette - if only a used one. Even used 911s are out of reach until they are so old they start becoming expensive again.
That sounds like a personal problem
Being understated is one of the best reasons to own a 911. If you need a flashy Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc, you have an ego problem, IMO.

I love that for this video you chose the 911 with the manual transmission which shows that Porsche still cares about their driving enthusiasts
And their manual gearboxes is one of the best
They still know how to make the best sports car
One of the best reviewers on you tube.. I think the problem with this channel is that they actually review cars with detail and don't "Hollywood movie" the review.. that says a lot about the current car enthusiast and the knowledge and appreciation of car in general

The S is the sweet spot. 2nd owner buy, better brakes, more HP and drive it without worrying about racking miles. Of course add IMO.
What you guys are trying to say is that a 911 represents an unbroken 70 year bloodline. That's where the magic lives.
Lobster Johnson thanks, unrelated lobster Johnson is an amazing name.

Also, the reason why your videos are so appealing to German viewers, is not just the fact that you also do German cars,
but the fact that your videos are really good and informative.
Stoked to see this in my notification this morning.
My partner got an LC500 when they first came out - it’s still a head turner but having driven it and seen it every day I’m just not that impressed - I agree, the Porsches just age so well, you could buy a 10 yr old one today and it doesn’t look “old” or out of date at all
Also, new T has manual too. But great car. I love it.
That intro music reminded me how much I miss Turbowski
Why is Turbowski not featured, anymore?
@@heimatliebe116 cuz Jack is better

Precision simply isn't as rewarding or entertaining as a burbling v8 that wants to go sideways all the time
What a beauty!!! Can't wait for the 992 version!
The cinematography in these vids is off the charts...
In 20 years the Lexus will look like a 2019 car. In 20 years the Porsche will still look of the time.
Yup. Look at 2019 4 runner looks like 2000
Sure, but to me the Porsche 911 has never looked interesting.
"When you get out of a GT3 and into the T, it's like.... what...." . Such a rich-person problem.

Congratulations - You are the first american who pronounces "Porsche" with an "e" - Great ! All the others say "Porsch"
The Brits are particularly guilty of pronouncing it wrong
@@aygwm After 90 years of PorschE history they should have learned it ;-)? They pronounce "Blitz" very good....;-)
You just can't compare a GT3 to a Carrera.
