Carrera T is like The GTS for the base Carrera ;) , by the way the T can have the Rear wheel steering as an option which you can not have in a base Carrera.
6:15 - I don’t believe the PDK has lower ratio gears. PDK T is just a base Carrera with light weight glass, nylon door pulls and the option to get buckets. Dealerships ruined what was around 1k total units being built between 2018-2019 in the US by building over half of them with PDK.
thanks mate for the info, and for spreading the right attitude towards road cars, and for enlightening ppl about the non sense of owning high end models just for show off and for never exploiting more than 50 percent of driving time on public roads.
Interestingly, I'd actually love to see higher up models offered with the option to only have the "911 Carrera" badge. To me "Carrera" has more symbolic weight than any number or model nomenclature after that, it looks less cluttered and classier. And base model or not, it's still a 911 and a very capable car.
J. Martinni I get you, I find this issue more irritating in the turbo as "Turbo" has always been the top of the line for Porsche and looks cleaner than "Turbo S"... But the Turbo S is the one you'd buy.
Happy to see another aficionado bemoan the sad sound of the 718 and replace with it with a true sports car sounding engine. Had my 981 Cayman S ecu remapped to 364hp, 420Nm, 0-100km/h 3.89sec... Power and the glory of the flat 6 NA 3.4l engine. Hair-trigger throttle response and a great engine note... couldn't be happier on every drive.
Have to agree on the base 3.0t engine with a manual. My wife just bought one in guards red with a sensible spec is easily the best value in the range. In reality it has all the performance you could ever need on public roads. Rides really well on the standard 19s and pasm. We stuck the sport-tex interior with full leather which brings deviated stitching to make the interior feel more special and is far nicer to sit on in hot or cold weather. Manual is a peach.
Nick, I guess I am the oddity you describe; I bought a base Carrera, and left all the logo’s on the rear. I actually really enjoy having a heated rear window, and I enjoy the aluminum door handles. I would feel really short changed to spend similar money and have awful fabric door handles. I use my 911 as a daily driver, and regularly cover 1000miles in a day. So the option of PDK & adaptive cruise control along with the sports plus seats make this an impressive GT car. As a lot of my miles are at altitude, I LOVE the forced induction engine. A NA car loses close to 20% power at the 2000m altitude that I spend half my time. I do feel, as Porsche have a knack of doing that the T is a marketing gimmick. As you point out; the weight saving is negligible, but I suppose it is one way of moving more “base” model engines. Because of the target market, I also feel that the only people that opt for a T would otherwise go for a GTS... OK, I don’t have rear wheel steering, but I have never thought that my car was in any way lacking agility. I also feel the sports exhaust is also another marketing gimmick; why spend money on something that does not improve the power, or handling?
Rear wheel steering, PDCC, dynamic vectoring and all that smart computer stuff really help with agility around a race track, if you never track your car, then you'd never notice of course.
How does the T compare to Base regards weight? For example I imagine rear wheel steering adds not a small amount of weight, so it could be a bonus for the T to not have it. Or maybe it was removed by Porsche to save cost
Just collected my T on Saturday. Absolutely loving it so far. I’ve had every series of Boxster S since the 2000 model. Just couldn’t get my head around the 718, so was lucky enough to be able to skip to the Carrera T this year. I agree it’s the most perfect car. Makes me grin every time I drive it.
Aftermarket set of front and rear brakes can easily run you close to the $8,000 asking price of the ceramics. Might as well get them with the ceramics at that point
Great review Nick, was really looking forward to it, thanks you really have put me at ease on my purchase of the Carrera T, I'm definitely keeping her for a while now
Nice review Nick! I would definitely have the full bucket seats - I sat in one with them and they are great seats. Other points to note on the T: shorter gearstick than normal with the manual, less sound deadening in the rear, the rear spoiler actually goes up to a higher angle than normal Carreras, and the rear seats are a no cost option. Also if you select privacy rear glass you don't get the rear lightweight RS glass. I think the standard Porsche colours do work well, as the mirrors and side stickers are painted in Agate Grey on all the Carrera T with all wheels in Titanium Grey, which offset the bright colours. A great car!
Nick Murray I think the compromise of ease of use is worth putting up with as the full buckets are so good. I think the best spec for the T is: no rear seats, lightweight rear glass, rear wheel steer, manual gearbox, carbon ceramic brakes, no sunroof, full buckets, standard black dials. Fire extinguisher is also a nice touch to the cabin on the T.
Of course, why not take the bucket seats when you're getting the light-weight model? No doubt. Only drawback of this car is, it should have an NA engine, even just one with small amount of hp.
My best buddy at this point is at the Porsche dealership here in Beirut, Lebanon purchasing a brand new 2018 Porsche Carrera T with the PDK gearbox. Colour is in GT Silver Metallic & it has the exact same 20-inch Carrera Sport wheels as your Carrera 4S 991.2.
Nick, you need to review a manual transmission and give us a comparison review! I personally think the manual transmission is what Porsche intended for the full impact of the what these changes combined really all bring to the overall driving enjoyment and engagement of this model.
Hey Nick, doesn't the lighter glass make it louder inside? Don't think you mentioned that. To me, more noise is a nice thing with these modern turbo 991s.
So, I'll throw in my two penneth: If manual is the total fun package, then the next question is WTF does it have a turbo? I personally love my PDK and I have a helluva lot of fun driving it. I've been offered a 781 GT4 slot and I've said it on other things I've posted: If I buy a new 718 GT4, I want it with PDK instead of manual like the 981 GT4. I looked at a 911T recently and I liked it, but I would still go for an S or a GTS if I bought a 911. Fun is fun, but I want to lead.
Hi Nick I know you live in the US of A, but here in the UK you can option out the red stitching, 911 script, STRAP FABRIC HANDLES, etc. This is all part of the Interior Package Carrera T, £1809 Regards, Marius
Great video, love your channel. I ordered my carrera t next day after they announce it . Absolutely love it. The car you show in video is little strange , PDK and sunroof? Should be more “spartan” , I add T interior , rear wheel steering and optional wheels. Recently I tune it with Cobb to 435 HP and it is amazing, not to much , not to little just perfect . Lots of people complain about brakes, the only benefit of bigger brakes is heat distribution (heavy track use) Tnx
hey Nick, nice ride, but I believe PTV and lower final ratio from the S is only available on manual cars not on the pdk variant. I might be wrong though. please check. cheers
Excellent review Nick. I agree with you comments on the base model. Instead of a Carrera T or S, I decided to spend the extra money on options like PDK, Sport Chrono and full leather.
Hi Nick been checking the Carrera T out compared to the C4S in The Netherlands. When adding some options to the CT it is almost as expensive as a C4S. Mainly due our taxregime on cars. Would go for the C4S like yours when I had the choise.
I kind of picture my 911 as a sweet spot for me - A very well optioned 911 Carrera - far better interior than my Cayman S was, with a much more GT style ride vs. my too-aggressive Cayman S optioned with the Porsche Sport Suspension. Although I would never turn down more horsepower, I love this car.
Nick glass is not ony for saving weight it is also less sound isolated which gives you more nice noise from the engine, i think this is the point for this option) And also if you notice rear spoiler goes a little higher than standart carrera's.
Awesome car. The only thing i don't like is the look of the sports exhaust. Nick, have you also driven the manual Carrera T with the shorter gear ratios?
Nick, great video as always but you did not mention the most compelling reasons for *me* to buy this car: limited slip differential and rear wheel steering
e99783 and 20mm lowered sport suspension. Also I think the lower gear ratios applies to the manual only, which also is a short shifter with 20% less travel than the manual in the base Carrera. Oh and less sound deadening and the sound channel going from the engine bay to the coupe. I just adore my Carrera T and it’s in Miami Blue. There are also Carrera T only exterior cues such as the slate gray grille (as opposed to black), the mirrors and that extra deep front splitter. Just awesome!
I love that you can remove the infotainment system on the 911 carrera t. I wish the carrera t was available with the 420 or 450 hp motor and had AWD. That would be the dream 911... for me
Great video Nick, as another Kiwi living in the US I am pleased to see your candid and honest comments about the cars you review. If I order a T with the brake upgrade, how long do the carbon ceramic rotors generally last with general spirited road use and occasional track days? Keep the great videos coming and keep up your Kiwi weirdness that folks generally get a giggle out of.
I see two major flaws with the one you are in: 1. Sunroof - really?? 2. PDK- in a Carrera T, Really? Loved the video though, and LOVE the Carrera T, I need one in my life.
chrsweden and not picking the sport bucket seats. Besides not having torque vectoring and the 10mm drop in suspension. Would it not have been cheaper to spec out a base carrera instead?
Precisely. The only 'Colin Chapman-esque' component (....ahem..."just add lightness"....) is junked by most parties because they want the heated screen and/or tints. Then they add the PDK. And a sun-roof ? And the PCM back in for their 'tunes'. Then they drive around on 'parts-bin' cast-flow 20" OEM wheels & tyres. It makes the whole 'puristic/light-weight' schtick an utter nonsense. A Carrera manual with 19" OEM wheels is actually lighter. So, get the Carrera and a set of 19" forged wheels with the spare cash, avoid the 'S' final drive & improve your emissions by 13+ % (and lose 0.1 sec on 0-60 time...).... Then you'll wind up with a simple, purer, less complicated 911. Just not the version of 'puristic' Zuffenhausen's marketing department wants you to have. An historic opportunity missed. Roll on the heavier and bigger 992. Anyone for a Tea then ?
Plus, I think the stitching thing is really not appropriate for this pure and sporty 911, maybe they better suit the touring-car-like turbo models, but anyone interested in a fancy interior with all that stitching should be going for a GT car, something like a Aston DB11 or Bentley Continental GT.
Glass sunroof is great. Breaks up the look from the outside and adds light inside. Not far off as much air in when open as the targa without all the weight!
I missed some thoughts on the changed windows (pastic instead of glass) and also the windscreen whiper for the back. Would you not miss it? Also would one not be better off in a base Carrera which is still cheaper and has the same engine? The benefits of the T modell are not completely clear to me (plastic windows, missing door handle, missing whiper, only slightly changed gear box, no real wight benefit ...)
Nick, great video. Small thing -- standard wheels are grey. Wheels painted satin black is $690. Also, to each his own, but I think the interior package with pinstripes looks horribly tacky. Otherwise, I agreed with everything you said. The comment about base 911 owners debadging the rear was hilarious. Finally, I wish you had tested a 7MT, I don't see how one could spec a T with PDK. Again, to each his own. Thanks for the video.
Only today? BTW, why can't we get the base 911 with a manual or the Carrera T with standard glass windows and sound dampening? Would it be "too good"? So typically Porsche.
Been waiting for this Nick, just awesome. Wish it was a manual spec with the bucket seats to see how you feel about those. Have you seen Janko Lind's review? He's quirky but can feel the passion for the Porsche brand from that guy.
The shorter ratio is only in the MT and you're driving a PDK. That car should be spec'd with MT...and no sunroof or colored leather air vents. Zero mention of rear steering or sport PASM, which are options not available on the base. Good point about Porsche attempting to remove the "it's just the base model." The T is great for people who want the base, but don't want people to think less of them for it. It is more expensive though at nearly 120k with some reasonable options, also considering you get no discount. Same person could buy a discounted S or CPO for less, so you really gotta want a T to buy one. Also there are no allocations so you pay over MSRP. I think you started this perception thing about the base engine being more responsive. I don't agree owning an S and driven the base plenty, but many people do because you keep saying so. The additional power from the S or GTS is preferred by most and they drive pretty much the same. I bet many won't know the difference when normal driving in a blind test. Once you start revving them out, the S is clearly more powerful.
Less is more says the guy with the C4S! Good point though about the base engine. Re the T - weight savings seem so minimal as to be a joke. A lightweight car with a sunroof?
The PDK you’re driving doesn’t have the shorter gearing, quite funny watching you talk about how much more fun it is when you aren’t even experiencing it...lol
Great video Nick. Less is truly more. I was wondering if you have ever driven a base Porsche Cayman 987? I have one in 5 speed manual. Some say this car is the purest of the recent sport cars Porsche has built, with the N/A 2.7 engine and hydraulic steering and it revs like a bastard, i love mine. Would like to see you do a video on this model. Interested to hear your thoughts. Cheers :)
The weight saved on the top by not having a glass power sunroof lowers the center of gravity. PS you shouldn't get this car if you eat too much every meal.
+Enfant Terrible Agreed, glass roof and leather seat with stitching are stupid options on this car. The owner probably just wanna show that he's a cool car enthusiast while relaxing his pu**y on that stitched leather seat. Oh sorry about the language, but I do dislike hypocrites.
Great video - clear & concise with good detail. I can see why some of my subscribers recommended you
Carrera T is like The GTS for the base Carrera ;) , by the way the T can have the Rear wheel steering as an option which you can not have in a base Carrera.
Yes but more tasteful!
nick hates his alcantara.
Deary-me it’s proppahhh nonetheless
Fancy seeing luimarco here, Lebanese baby please 😂
The L U I looking proper!! I salute this comment!
Great video Nick! The T is definitely one of my favourite 911. Thanks for the video.
Cheers for cutting through the hype Nick and giving a more balanced picture than most car magazines provide.
6:15 - I don’t believe the PDK has lower ratio gears. PDK T is just a base Carrera with light weight glass, nylon door pulls and the option to get buckets. Dealerships ruined what was around 1k total units being built between 2018-2019 in the US by building over half of them with PDK.
Another one of Nick’s uncompromising videos! You gotta love it. And I do, always. Cheers & thx mate, Irwin
thanks mate for the info, and for spreading the right attitude towards road cars, and for enlightening ppl about the non sense of owning high end models just for show off and for never exploiting more than 50 percent of driving time on public roads.
Love mine, 1 year in and puts as smile on my face every time particularly on the the quieter back roads. The manual with ceramics is the spec you want
I totally agree, Nick. 911T is probably best bang for the buck. If I ever win the lottery, though...my choice is a Singer 911.
Interestingly, I'd actually love to see higher up models offered with the option to only have the "911 Carrera" badge. To me "Carrera" has more symbolic weight than any number or model nomenclature after that, it looks less cluttered and classier. And base model or not, it's still a 911 and a very capable car.
J. Martinni I think you can delete the model badging if you want on most models.
I'm pretty sure you can get any sticker you want from your Porsche dealer, like the M badges from BMW. (looking at you BMW M318d drivers...)
J. Martinni I get you, I find this issue more irritating in the turbo as "Turbo" has always been the top of the line for Porsche and looks cleaner than "Turbo S"... But the Turbo S is the one you'd buy.
I'd personally replace the model logo with just "911" on everything except the GTs. "911" just speaks volumes imo without needing to say much at all
A good honest review!
Spoiler alert with a shot of the spoiler up. Very witty Nick!
Jack Shaheen Groan inducing pun.
Had to watch this video.....again! Recently traded in my 718 GTS for the Carrera T. Love the sound of the T compared to the flat 4.
Hi Nick , Great Video , I do own a T PDK but i'm sure the PTV does not come on cars with PDK. Many thanks.

We stuck the sport-tex interior with full leather which brings deviated stitching to make the interior feel more special and is far nicer to sit on in hot or cold weather. Manual is a peach.
Is it possible to spec a T model without a sunroof? I think the sunroof alone would save more than 11LBS.
Nick, I guess I am the oddity you describe; I bought a base Carrera, and left all the logo’s on the rear. I actually really enjoy having a heated rear window, and I enjoy the aluminum door handles. Well said but I'd spend the $3K to get PSE. I want noise from a sports car and being able to turn it on and off is nice in a daily driver.
Half the fun in a sportscar is the noise it makes when you start it up every morning :)
Hey Nick, I do agree. I do love my T with the 370HP Engine - quick enough. Cheers from Germany
So stupid that they do not have big brakes as an option 😫
John Schnorr people who were concerned about this seem to have gone for the ceramics. This option works well if you spec the car in Racing Yellow.
But the red steel brakes is more preferred. It has the stopping power you want with less brake fade and it's more affordable than the ceramics
Wesley D indeed, but Porsche doesn’t offer that option on the T, so it’s standard or ceramics!
Aftermarket set of front and rear brakes can easily run you close to the $8,000 asking price of the ceramics. Might as well get them with the ceramics at that point
Great review Nick, was really looking forward to it, thanks you really have put me at ease on my purchase of the Carrera T, I'm definitely keeping her for a while now
OMG the end with Tui and the $100 plus powder. Absolutely killed me! 😂. Best video to boot
Yes if you fit well in them that are super supportive just a little hard to get in and out of
Nick Murray I think the compromise of ease of use is worth putting up with as the full buckets are so good.
Great intro...classical music and the 911 go hand in hand...
i love this car the most!
Nick, you nailed it. There are faster cars but for the pure pleasure of driving, this is the 911.
Nick, you need to review a manual transmission and give us a comparison review! I personally think the manual transmission is what Porsche intended for the full impact of the what these changes combined really all bring to the overall driving enjoyment and engagement of this model.
thanks nick!
Perfect spec (other than the pdk) loved the interior.
PDK is awesome indeed, but all the point of this car is about the pure driving. Why would u let the computer enjoy the drive rather than yourself?
Hey Nick, doesn't the lighter glass make it louder inside? Don't think you mentioned that. To me, more noise is a nice thing with these modern turbo 991s.
My best buddy at this point is a the Porsche dealership here in Beirut, Lebanon purchasing a brand new 2018 Porsche Carrera T with the PDK gearbox.
wtf is that pdk doing in that car???
Jack Shaheen do you see people who want to drive as fast as possible going for a rwd carrera t??
Yeah start and stop traffic is a real nightmare, still stick would be preffered for fun imo
Jack Shaheen Yes. Lewis Hamilton ordered his Pagani Zonda 760 with a manual!
So, I'll throw in my two penneth: If manual is the total fun package, then the next question is WTF does it have a turbo? I personally love my PDK and I have a helluva lot of fun driving it. I looked at a 911T recently and I liked it, but I would still go for an S or a GTS if I bought a 911. Fun is fun, but I want to lead.
limulus61 turbo used to be cool and performance before vw started to put in passat for emmision regulation
Hi Nick
I know you live in the US of A, but here in the UK you can option out the red stitching, 911 script, STRAP FABRIC HANDLES, etc. This is all part of the Interior Package Carrera T, £1809

Originally you weren't impressed by the Carrera T.
hey Nick, nice ride, but I believe PTV and lower final ratio from the S is only available on manual cars not on the pdk variant. I might be wrong though. please check. cheers
You gave me so much crap about this car when i got my allocation lolll. Haven't driven one yet but I'm really glad you like it
You only own cars that leak oil.
And it will remain that way until I die! (probably by slipping on oil and hitting my head in the driveway)
Excellent review Nick. I agree with you comments on the base model. Instead of a Carrera T or S, I decided to spend the extra money on options like PDK, Sport Chrono and full leather.
Another excellent video Nick, the T would be high on my list if I didn't have the expense of running a UA-cam channel... Tui is a true rock star ;-)
Hi Nick been checking the Carrera T out compared to the C4S in The Netherlands. When adding some options to the CT it is almost as expensive as a C4S. Mainly due our taxregime on cars. Would go for the C4S like yours when I had the choise.

Beautiful looking car and it’s a Porsche. Enough said 🏁
Your can get rid of the thin rear glass by opting do the rear wiper.
Oh my word…those pinstriped seats are amazing. And I sell after-market leather for a living. For Porsches.
Nick glass is not ony for saving weight it is also less sound isolated which gives you more nice noise from the engine, i think this is the point for this option)
And also if you notice rear spoiler goes a little higher than standart carrera's.
This music is Brahms violin concerto. Does anyone know the entire name of the piece? I heard this piece 40 yrs ago n i m still mesmerized by it.
Awesome car. The only thing i don't like is the look of the sports exhaust.
Nick, have you also driven the manual Carrera T with the shorter gear ratios?

Gonna get one!
0:32 "old fashioned" temperature? Still using Fahrenheit in in U.S.!
you can delete the lightweight rear glass at no charge. i tried adding rear wiper then a mandatory option to delete thin glass came up
I’d be interested in your take on the 991.2 C4. Same lively engine / tune as the T but in the same body as your 4S
I love that you can remove the infotainment system on the 911 carrera t. I wish the carrera t was available with the 420 or 450 hp motor and had AWD. That would be the dream 911... for me
The end was epic!...Tui and her cocaine habit, hahahaha! :D
Great video Nick, as another Kiwi living in the US I am pleased to see your candid and honest comments about the cars you review. Love the red dials and belt on dark grey exteriour color #oneday

Glass sunroof is great. Breaks up the look from the outside and adds light inside. Not far off as much air in when open as the targa without all the weight!
BertoniBertone well said
Nailed it!
Tui and the Cocaine / $100 bill snorter was the best part!! LOL
Tui - Top dog hittin it hard!

Wow! Just 4 years ago and look at that price for a base 911. Almost $24K more now. WOW!
Nick can you do one for 992.1 T? And talk about why one should buy it over S (or not!)
Love the cut at 1:04 - classic
Only today?
BTW, why can't we get the base 911 with a manual or the Carrera T with standard glass windows and sound dampening? Would it be "too good"? So typically Porsche.
Also is it possible to do a video of how you would spec your carrera t?
Great video Nick ;)
Are you sure you don't write brochures for Porsche? Great commentary
Would you ever consider trading your c4s for this? I bet you’d get the six speed tho
Been waiting for this Nick, just awesome. Wish it was a manual spec with the bucket seats to see how you feel about those. Have you seen Janko Lind's review? He's quirky but can feel the passion for the Porsche brand from that guy.
The Annoying Tourist agreed, the T is perfect in manual with the bucket seats.
Double the degrees and ad 30! Nick, about 102f I reckon
Who say this car is less powerful
Give it a nice ecu tune
And boom 440 PS all stock
Nice job Nick, any news on drying towels?
Ordered one 3 weeks ago and no news.
Thanks
All new 911s sound so awwful in comparison to the 997/1s!
The dog is gettin' down with Dr. Rockso, trying to be a rock n roll k-k-k-k-k-clown
With the LW glass and the lack of sound insulation how much worse is the road noise inside the T compared to the base?
So funny. I literally JUST reviewed a white Carrera T. I loved it.
What is the music? Love it.
Can also get rear seat delete. Don't think that is possible on the base S.
Nick, the car gods are telling you something. Now is the time for you to move to a Carrera T.
love the Carrera T :)
If you where never going to take the car to the track would you even notice that you didn’t have the better brakes? Good vid nick!
No the brakes are excellent for everything other then track
nick please review an E63, I just got one and i'd love your opinion on it and i'd like to see it kick the arse off your 911.
I thought you did not like the SPASM because of the harsher ride? This is standard on the T yes?
It is and I don't like the ride as much as without it.
the lower gear ratios are evident even in the PDK??
How about the manual for the 'T', Nick as compared to the PDK??
I will do a manual T video soon
Can’t wait for that!
Cheers :)
Am I the only one who prefers chrome over black?
Great review Nick!
Jordi Singla we’re in two. At least.
She aint no Toyota Corolla but she'll do for the time being. lol
So would you trade in your C4S for a new Carrera T if you could break even (or close to it)?
Sure sounds like there is a turbo lag. Maybe 1 second after you floored it the tach jumped.
Owners of turbo cars always tell themselves they have 'no lag' (roll eyes).
Bad spec, thought this is a a lighter "purist" model?
Glass roof and pdk and its as heavy as a normal carrera again
lightness is all marketing fluff. if you ate a large lunch you offset the window and doorpulls
What is the name of the dealership where you bought your car in CT?
Wondering how well the heat works?
Why no drag race against your 4S?
