We had the owner of a boat at our new marina come and introduce himself to us. You would have thought my wife didn’t even exist. He kept looking at me while talking about out boat. My wife can’t dock our boat without me, nor I her. We are a team, each with our job to do, no one more important than the other. I wish I would have asked him how it felt being a cliche
I'm so sorry this happened, but I also understand why it happens. It is still a bit of a novelty for women to be owner/operators, and he may have seen it as polite not to address another man's wife. You get to believe whatever you want about other people's motivations, so pick something that will make you feel better. Maybe he was just trying to hit on you because you were looking so darn good that day! Get it!
I realized that I'm too often driving the boat to be able to also pilot a drone. We need to hang out again because there are some boat docking shots that I need the drone perspective on!
Thanks, I like the towing one best. I think I need to renew my towing membership soon.... I always do it around my birthday, so that I can have a good year!
I remember you actually. You posted on Facebook about six months ago asking if anybody wanted any help to learn and I jumped on that like hot potatoes. You said you had family near the gulf coast and I highly encouraged you to come help me learn to Captain. I haven’t heard from you so I assume that you just haven’t made it to the Gulf area yet. By the way my ship sets sail in a year and a half so I would still love to have you help come train me
It's hard to find clients that are comfy enough on camera to let me film while I teach them docking. Haha, I don't blame them. But no, I haven't made it to the Gulf. Yet, but I have been doing a lot of coaching and goofing off!
Can you come down to St Croix and help my wife build confidence around our Hylas 47? I encourage her to do anything and everything on the boat, to learn at her own speed and comfort level, and to find her own Way. I never push, but I always offer her the chance to do new things when opportunities present themselves. She doesn't like to drive even out in open water and refuses to dock. She would rather raise sails, work the foredeck, manage the sheets when tacking or gybing, handle lines when we come in, etc, and she is good at what she does. Any tips on how I can help her build confidence in boat handling? Or should I just be happy I have a partner who is also excellent crew?
It's getting cold here, I'd be happy to book a flight south!!... As for your wife's unease about handling the helm, I think it's really important for all crew to know something about driving the boat for safety. If you fall overboard, can she handle a MOB on her own? And if she's really afraid, check that you're not tensing up when you pull your own boat in. Prove to her that it's not as high-stakes/pressure/embarrassing with your own attitude both during and after!
Also, any time she does take the helm, be sure to mention how amazing she looks with all that control! A stunning adventuress on the helm of her own destiny!
HAHA, It's pretty hard to film yourself and make that maneuver happen. I didn't have time to go ask for a cinematographer on shore, but I wish I had. Kicking myself now... I wonder if anyone at Pussers got a shot of it. There were plenty of folks having breakfast over there.
@@CaptainBoomies Yeah I know its hard - constantly wish I had turned on the camera when reefing - but the 35knot wind and waves kinda distracted me LOL I have had good luck with time-lapses, use a big lightstand and stick the GoPro on top.. then let it run. if you shoot 4 or 5.6k you can make a 1080p project and crop or crop-n-pan as you go after the fact. I tacked a phone to the dodger and just kept moving the clip-mount for the last timelapse I uploaded. *BTW one of the take it easy and slow, I always have to ask guests to please sit, people think they are supposed to be running around for push-back and docking. like to get the energy out of the boat and then just ease up the last bit.

Sòme of the best docking i have seen has been done by female helmsman. Women are more apt to take it slow and put ego aside.
