For all those watching that are new boaters, I highly suggest going out and throwing a fender or even a life jacket into the water and just practice coming up to it on your boat.Too many people spend far too little time getting to know they’re boat. If you take some time and play around with the controls you’ll become a pro in no time!

That’s much easier than my single inboard/outboard.

YES, very good info overall, with one MAJOR mistake! I COULD STRONGLY ARGUE to never get off the boat prior to it being secured by a line.

Agree. He said to start upwind. This is NOT a good idea. Always do against the wind/current whichever is stronger... He makes it look easy cause the wind always blows the bow, so he didn't have to control the bow. Good video for selling the boat though haha
I thought he pointed out a finger slip way at the end of the marina. But that was smooth. Good job captain.
... always, always make sure you have centered your helm ... and keep your hands a way from it !!!! Shifters and throttles only ...
Thanks for the video. Question- why wouldn’t you use port side engine in reverse when the dock is on the port side of the boat, and then control the angle with forward bursts on starboard engine? Was it because of the wind?
Port reverse would you move the stern of the boat away from the dock on a port side tie. Think of it like driving a shopping cart. Those same physics are in play when docking a twin.

Is the spring line tightening a lock on the front cleat?
The single spring line in this case is actually one line acting as the bow line and the spring line. It runs from the bow cleat aft to a cleat on the dock where it is cleated off then runs further aft to the midway cleat on the boat. The spring line in this case tensions both the bow and stern line and insures that the boat doesn't slide aft hitting the outboards.
Thank you for showing the thrust-reverse throttle action. I've noticed videos that do not. Flip side... Had another boat been in the slip on the starboard side, what would you have done differently?

Reverse the engine on the side you want to go. To dock on port side, port engine reverse that moves the stern in - starboard engine short easy bursts forward moves the hull around straight

Try doing that docking in a real scenario... 1) dont drift from the right of the bay to the left, bring it in to the port side dock directly. 2) have a boat next to you, where there is much less pay and pace to save yourself. . Explain how you line up, how to know your pivot... What you did there may as well have been drifting to the T dock at the end.

ive never understood why people treat outboards like inboards. For spinning the boat its great. But when docking just use the steering wheel. The little props outboards have dont throw the torque an inboard does to effectively change direction without revving the nuts off the engine.
How about docking with a boat next to you. You used both finger slips to do that. It's not often a boater in real boating has that luxury.

You do the same thing, and make sure you don't hit the boat next to you. The boat is the same thing as the pilings at the end of the finger slips, or any other obstacles, essentially.
Why are you handling twin outboards like you would twin inboards? Different drives, different techniques.

I agree, however , you have to remember this was shot in early April in CT there was only like 10 boats in the whole harbor at that point. Also the video is meant to be a concepts tutorial not a docking chops competition. Its was also a brand new 0 hour boat that was for sale so no need to risk scratching her up....

looked to me he was headed to the slip beside him,he was in that slip and the wind pushed him to that dock,lets see him park between 2 boats or ar least one parked beside him while he backs into the other.....lame video

I've had family members fight and lose and others fight and win against cancer. Boo hoo if you don't like the joke, this is the internet and we're adults. All I can say is learn how to use a microphone and basic video editing software in order to level your audio because that was utter crap.
@@hiperfin As the person who actually did the video I can appreciate the humor. I did actually try to fix the audio and its better than it was. The wrap around windshield combined with trying to suppress the wind noise made for some wonky acoustics. I'm sorry for the impetuous and churlish nature of the previous comment. Filming outdoors on a moving vessel has its challenges and we are always striving for the best quality videos possible. All I can say is that this video is meant to be educational and is not in the running for an Oscar, also I am personally sorry to hear about your auditory ailment however as viewership is voluntary we are not responsible for any injuries....
