Roatan, Honduras staying near the West End & Sandy Bay

- Travel along with us as we extend our trip to the West End of Roatan. Snorkeling and scuba diving the West Bay area is always amazing!! We show you where to snorkel for free, and then scuba dive a reef named Texas with a massive school of fish!
We check in to two hotels, Puerta Azul near Sandy Bay, and Cocolobo closer to the West End (within walking distance). Some travel tips may be dispensed and we're always eager to answer any questions :)

Not to be confused with the West End, the West Bay beach is just south with a pristine beach and some of the very best shore snorkeling in the world! And the best part, it's FREE!!

west bay has the better snorkelling , however ive been told you can swim around the point in west end and get to the dolphin enclosure. i wish people would clean up their party mess in west bay in the morning , and not wear sunscreen in the water. not good for the reef.
Thanks for watching! Yes, the sunscreen is not good for the reef. Hopefully more people can start using reef safe products in the future.

Beautiful video! Just curious, did you snorkel at both West Bay and West end? If so, which one did you like better? Thank you
We did snorkeling at both and enjoyed West Bay the most. However, make sure you go to the southernmost point of the beach to get started (near the Grand Roatan). There are a couple of markers in the water showing where there are swim through areas to get past the first shallow reef. Once you get past that, the reef is deeper with much larger fish.

What were your thoughts on CocoLobo? Did it feel secure? Walkable to West end? Did they have a safe in the room from what you remember? A/C in the room? Mosquitos bad in that location? How did you book?
We really enjoyed the swimming pool area at CocoLobo. It felt very secure, and we walked to the West End during the day and at night. CocoLobo is within a nice little neighborhood with other hotels and homes so you’re not walking along a deserted roadway at all. Our room had a safe, and the A/C was fine but we preferred to leave the windows open and let fresh air pass thru the room. The decor is a bit “dated” so that’s about the only thing I’d say could be improved upon. We booked through Expedia. I don’t remember there being any issues with mosquitoes during our stay on the island. Enjoy!

Man I'm sorry you feel like that, there's cool people and annoying people everywhere so I disagree with comments this general,especially if referring to Hondurans the way you are. Most are great people!

So you did not snorkel in front of puerta azul, only in front of west bay and west end correct?
We snorkeled all three sites. West Bay is just our favorite area due to the abundance of coral and fish. West End is also pretty good. We walked down to the end of the pier at Puerta Azul and did some snorkeling there as well, but you have to swim out a ways to the reef past the pier and there is some boat traffic you have to watch for so it was third on our list.
