You mentioned that many places only take cash, so bring plenty. You also said the water taxi was three dollars. Do they take American dollars, or do you spend the local currency? If it is the local currency, is it easy to find ATMs to withdraw from?
Thanks for all the information.
You can use both US currency as well as Honduran currency. Be sure that all US currency you bring is in condition. I can't stress this enough. US bills with any tears or marks on them, even little ones, will not be accepted. When paying with US currency you will usually get Honduran currency in return. Makes sure to know the conversion rate. We were short changed a few times while on the island. We did not use an ATM on the island so I do not have information on that topic. Hope this info helps. Thanks for watching!
I am considering a trip to Roatan. I heard there are a lot of stray dogs with mange wandering around. Did you notice this? I don’t know if I could have fun seeing dogs suffer. Thanks for any feedback.
We did not see any stray dogs with mange wandering around. One reason we did not is that there is an excellent dog and animal rescue in Roatan that is run by a person we met on the island. Janessa Baar runs "Roatan Rescue" where she cares for over 600 animals. Check out "Roatan Rescue" on Facebook if you have a passion for helping animals. It is a great cause. Thanks for watching and commenting!
The last day is my worst one Lol. I never want to leave. But I am back soon for my Birthday
Me too! We can't wait to go back! Thanks for watching!
Youll see that anywhere in the whole country to be honest. Doesnt look as bad as you would think :)
Absolutely love your UA-cam videos! Now (because of you two) we are trying to plan our 50th anniversary to Roatan. Can you PLEASE give us some suggestions on places to stay?
Thank you so much for watching! We love Roatan and can't wait to go back. We stayed at Seascape which is in between West End and West Bay and loved the location. We always look on VRBO to find places to stay. I would highly recommend staying on the western side of the island although the entire island is beautiful. We did a segment on Fishcher's Landing which is a wonderful place to stay. Hope you have a great 50th on Roatan!
love the videos, are there as many places to eat in West Bay too?
Yes. There are many places to eat in West Bay. Be sure to go to Beachers. Monday night is their lobster night which is a great deal and outstanding! Thanks for watching!
Where would you suggest getting tested for COVID-19 before boarding your plane to go back to the United States?
There is a medical place in the West Bay Mall on the main road near Bananarama. I think it coast $60. Seemed like a reliable place.
Thanks
I think we should’ve mentioned it just one more time that we were there for a month. 😂😂😂
Is parking hard to find at West End?
We never had a hard time finding parking. We typically parked on the street. The street is narrow so you do run the risk of getting a fender bender. There are a few places for off street parking that cost 2$-5$ per day.
Thank you
Did you have any problems with bugs? Sand flies or no seeums? If so, what did you use?
Great question. So many visitors have this problem! They say after living in Roatan for 3 months your body will be able to resist the no seeums. But if you will only be there a short time it may be a problem. I was not affected at all but my wife was, so we searched for solutions. The best one we found was a local recipe. Mix in a small spray bottle, 20 drops of citronella essential oil, 20 drops of lavender essential oil, 20 drops tea tree oil, 20 drops of lemongrass essential oil, 20 drops of geranium esential oil, 1 teaspoon neem oil, 1 table spoon vodka and fill the rest of the spray bottle with distilled water. Hope this helps!
Do you need to rent a car on the island?
That depends on how long you are there and what all you would want to do. You don't "have" to rent a car. If you are staying at West End or West Bay, you can take a cheap water taxi back and forth. There are also taxis and ubers to get around. If you like to explore on your own then I would recommend renting a car. The island is pretty large and there is a lot to explore. Thanks for watching!
