Probably of a character being attacked based on party lineup:
    Front character: 7/16 chance
    2nd: 4/16
    3rd: 3/16
    4th: 2/16
Formula changes for different sized parties, but new players should definitely be made aware of the importance of the order of the lineup.

@@PancakemonsterFO4There’s mobile ports of the remakes. It takes a while to get used to playing in portrait mode and the one handed touch controls, but once you get past that hurtle, it’s actually pretty comfortable. One of the things I will always love these games for is the minimalist menus. It’s very non intrusive unlike most Final Fantasy games. It’s a small thing but it’s nice to be able to keep track of where you’re at any moment even when the game is paused. I wish more JRPG’s would do that.

Fun fact about 1:03 that I think you'd appreciate. In Yakuza 0, which takes place in late 80's Japan there's an entire Substory that revolves around trying to get a copy of Dragon Quest 3 (referred to Arakure Quest 3 or Ara Q3 in the game) because of just how popular it is.
Then of course there's Yakuza 7 which is so full of DQ references and easter eggs that it'd be impossible to mention them all in a youtube comment.
They even went so far as to use the Yakuza series' japanese name as the subtitle for the game in the west for another reference because it's Yakuza: Like A Dragon(quest)

One of the best ways to do it is by waiting for a seller to sell a cautery sword at the clerk menu, buying 99 from your boss and filling your inventory, and astreas abascus i think they are called (its been awhile since ive played) you could buy 99 of those in endor and iron armor etc.

I'm one of those weirdos who played the NES version, and it was my second or third JRPG (after Pokemon).
While I playing the remake is much better, there are few things about NES version (I'll use the NES version names):
    1. The limitations of Sprits meant you need to imagine what would the character be like, and that interpretation would always be better in your head.
My interpretation of Taloon was more or less like in the remake, however Alena I thought from the NES version was much different. Given how strong she was, my interpretation was actually much closer to the Female HERO character(though a little ore tomboy-ish), than the cutesy one in the remake.
    2. Non-controllable party members. This is a point of contention, but I thought that brought out their personalities even more. Alena was quite aggressive (esp. with the Flame sword), Ragnr was a balanced knight/tank, Chris was very defensive, Brey wasn't that good in combat(since he's kind of old), but very useful in other stuff, Mara was an insane mage, shooting spells left in right, while Nara was equivalent to Overwatch's Mercy, always on support. Oh and Taloon, oh boy. Could use any item in the inventory (not even equipped), and did random things in battle, like calling other merchants to beat up the enemies, or tell a joke so the thenemy laughs and skips a turn.
Granted from a practical standpoint, it harms the pacing and combat, but the AI members told so much through their actions. I always remember this game for those moments.
Never completed the game, as I'm stuck at Keelon, and I have to grind a LOT to defeat him. I gave up.

I have the mobile version of this game (Chose that one over emulating the DS version cause it brought back the cut-out party chat system (And I heard the fan-patch that adds them back to the DS version crashes sometimes, so hopefully that wasn't a mistake. Lol)). I need to get around to playing this at some point (Well, beyond Ch. 2). :P

@12:32 Eh, agree to disagree. Maybe it was because I was slightly over leveled, but I honestly found the final bosses of the original trilogy to be harder. Course back then I was a complete newbie when it came to the Dragon Quest series. I mean, I played Fortune Street before finally playing through DQ1, but considering Fortune Street is a spin off title, I’m not really sure that counts. 😂😂😂

Best Dragon Quest game, story, and music ever made. And it was made for NES which is nuts considering how far ahead of it’s time it was. Would make a sick live action HBO series if they modernized it and got rid of some of the silly clothing like Alena’s outfit and Ragnar’s armor. But alas, I dream.

  • @adamclark8994

I think Dragon Quest IV is decent but I really don't get why it was so popular and well liked. The story is very basic, heroes unite to save the world but that's really it. There's no in-between. Dragon Warrior VII offered more.
Still, a decent game that I will complete one day.

Yes DQ7 was a drag but at least the characters interacted more then they did in IV. I completed IV the other week and yes I can see why some may like it.

In the remakes, it's Aamon in the extra chapter they added, but when making the video I wanted to make sure I was talking about the original game changes and features since this is a retrospective about the series's development. That's why you'll notice that in the rest of the series, I try my best not to focus on content the remakes added unless I'm explicit about it.

It's honestly kind of strange the way you have these reviews set up. You're playing the remakes but are basing the reviews on the original games and how they developed off of each other. That doesn't really work when you're looking at the remakes, which were made WAY after the originals and are chock full of new stuff thrown in from the newer releases.
