I have an old set of Pirelli 'Winter Ice Zero FR' winter tires. I just bought 2 Continental 'WinterContact SI Plus' winter tires and even though they are the older technology, they do seem to perform on ice better than the Pirelli tires do. I also noticed the Pirelli rubber is 'harder' at -10C than the Continental tires are, that might be why.
