That yellow cable you put into the modem, in my house that goes straight into my wall.. That round cable you are using is what I use for a TV aerial... Ps. I'm in uk
When the guy set up mine he just made an Ethernet port and I just connect the Ethernet cable to the wall and directly to the router and it works. Can someone explain.
To answer your questions. (Oh so i still need a modem if i want to get a new faster router?) if i understand your question correctly the answer is NO. remember what the guys said you only need router if you want more computer to talk to each other in ONE NETWORK. if you dont have any other computer that need to talk to each other then modem will suffice it already. (Btw does a older modem affect a newer and faster router?) this is a little bit complicated to talk as it include a NETWORKING AND LAN SPEED. technically if you want a faster LAN network then you need a newer router. older model tend to have lower LAN throughput speed. and so on and so fort. its a long discussion lol.
I'm trying to run two or three things at the same time and I just have a modem is it possible to do this without a Wi-Fi. I'm not using Wi-Fi for anything. I'm trying to keep from having a Wi-Fi channel that I will not use I do not want the signal. So what do I do
Im in philippine need wifi for phone use. We have cable tv with its own modem. But they are not comnected. Would wifi work in different location from modem
Hey I wanted to ask that if i buy a new gaming router plug it into the electricity (you know what I mean) so its on and then i take a ethernet cable and plug it into the back of the router and into my laptop will i still need a modem just for that laptop to access chrome and play online games on very low ping
so if i plug a router in and turn it on and then on my smartphone turn on the wifi and then turn on my wireless printer can i send a document to the printer from my thru the router to print it out?
I got a combo modem router but I need internet for a desktop computer, the computer doesn’t have a wireless adapter if I got a wireless router would it need to be connected to the the modem/router at all times or will it pick up its signals somehow
I have a question, my cox technicolor isp provided modem is a modem/router, it plugs stright into a wall using kat 5 through an ethernet port, does that mean that I could plug any router into the wall that is compatible and I would get internet
That's just the problem. I'm waiting for an internet solution that you don't need all that coaxial cable into the modem, then modem into the router business. I'd say 1880s coaxial technology is a little outdated now...
If you are looking for high performance and a customizable experience, separate devices are better. However, modem router combos are more convenient, easier to set up, and save space.
These videos are confusing. I have a fiber connection and idk if my current device is a modem or a router. I looked up the model and some people say it's a modem while say it's a router. I bought a router and I can't connect to the internet with it but I can't connect to the internet even if it's running of lan off my current modem or router what ever thing. So I can't tell if I need a modem or a router or what ever. So I'm returning the current router I just bought because it doesn't seem to be working.
What device do you have? Fiber internet doesn't use a modem. Its usually a media converter. But that depends on your ISP and how they handle fiber internet. Some providers will run fiber to your house and install a media converter where the fiber ends and then it has a copper handoff. Basically that means an ethernet cable is plugged into the media converter and then into a router. On the other hand, some ISPs will give you a gateway box which has everything built-in.
Hi! I live in an apartment building that has an ethernet jack. Do I need a modem? Can't I just plug my ethernet into the router and run a cable from the router back to my desk top for setup?
Does anyone know why I can't find a DSL modem at retailers like Best Buy? I can only find modems for cable internet. Some routers say they have an "integrated modem" but won't have a DSL port on it, it'll only have WAN and LAN ethernet ports. Can I plug the DSL line into the WAN port or am I stuck with the modem-router combo my ISP gave me? It is SERIOUSLY frustrating me.
My personal advice is never go with the modem router combo. Always have them segregated as two devices. My experience with router/modem combos are they suck.
I have a 3G/4G modem keeps cutting in and out loses Celluar service out of nowhere my isp Bravado Wireless my ping has spiked big time lately now im using my att mobile hotspot 15gb data $40 monthly plan

You can configure your router to be independent as long as you get the dns servers logged in through your routers settings. This video couldn't be more misleading.
as he explain and to make it more understandable router mean to connect 2 or more computer in one network. to make one computer talk to another computer WITHOUT using INTERNET. which is called or more common as LOCAL AREA NETWORK. Keep in mind that this does not apply when your internet provider provides internet via ethernet. In those cases you just want a router.
Is it possible to buy a router that does not have Wi-Fi
@@billkincer4256 I think any router should be able to broadcast wifi as long as you have some form of wired internet plugged into it.
Thank you, this is what I needed.

I keep getting ddosed and now my wifi is bad what should i get a new modem? Ion know nothing about this stuff
what to i need to do if I don't have that kind of stuff on my wall ??
When your using a separate router you need to make the modem into bridge mode so it can allow to distribute the signal to your router
Can i use a smart TV to watch streaming services with just the router?
So basically a modem is only used to convert from coaxial to Ethernet correct? If I have Ethernet running from the wall I don’t need one of these?

Do you still have to work with a company to get internet access or you can it by just hooking it all up on your own with your own modem and router?

I have a cat5 cable coming from my wall plugged into a router that provides internet without any modem. Not sure how that works...?
Can i connect the router to a combo and snap the wifi part in the compo
But what if I have an lan cable coming from the wall? Is that the modem
Please someone respond. If u buy a modem and a router and plug the router into my pc will I need to buy a plan and spend money for internet

Atleast it's faster than DSL or phone lines.
So, which is better? Combo or separate devices?
If you are looking for high performance and a customizable experience, separate devices are better. However, modem router combos are more convenient, easier to set up, and save space.
I want to know if you can use something to make a laptop wired without having a modem in your room, such as a wireless router or TP link device?

Yeah if they provide an Ethernet Jack for you then you can plug straight to your router. If that doesn't work you may want to contact your ISP.
Basically that is like a modem?

Has that modem-router combo also a switch / hub integrated in?
Can you give me a link to where i can buy modems?
Wow thanks for this. Very clear and simple!

What is a router for
as he explain and to make it more understandable router mean to connect 2 or more computer in one network. to make one computer talk to another computer WITHOUT using INTERNET. which is called or more common as LOCAL AREA NETWORK.
