    The red port can be also a WAN, which is an input port which comes from the only port of the ONT. So, WAN is an input, won't be able to get internet through that.

    My parents just upgraded their Bell phone service from a copper connection to fibre, but get their ADSL internet through Primus. They installed a home hub 3000, eliminating the need for the modem supplied by Primus. The wifi works great, but they're getting passed back and forth regarding their wired connection. How should the wired setup connect from modem/router combo to switch to desktop? WAN to LAN to Ethernet? LAN to LAN to Ethernet? Bell says Primus will walk them through it, and Primus is clueless on anything to do with the Home Hub 3000.

    • @sunsparkle8443

      It was an Ethernet port . This ONT Ethernet port is wired to a signal and protocol system in the device that is designed for fiber optic signal processing. . The Ethernet cable he plugged in ran to a device on his local area network. The fiber connection uses another port and leads to the internet service provider.

    • @ONI1013.
      @ONI1013. 5 днів тому +1

      No, the WAN (Wide Area Network) port should be used to connect to your modem/ONT (or connected directly to the internet feed coming from ISP). This is the main port from the modem to the router (assuming you’re not using a router/modem combo from your ISP). The WAN is the “public” side of your network that connects to the wider internet. You don’t want your private client devices connected directly to your WAN.
      The rest of your ports are the LAN ports to connect either your client devices (PCs, TVs, ), switches, or other Access Point Satellite routers (wired backhaul). The wired backhaul is highly recommended for reducing bandwidth congestion, improved reliability and speeds.

    Hopefully you’ll answer my question here. I have a coax router from my provider and I pay for 1gig internet but I don’t get near what I’m paying for so I bought some screenbean coax to Ethernet converters to at least get what I pay for it not get lucky like the ones in the videos I’ve watch and double my speeds and I was wondering if I buy a good non-coax Ethernet router will it work? I just don’t want a splitter coming off my main coax to the router and to the screenbean module and then another splitter somewhere else to run the other converter to my gaming PC. To many splitters and I feel it’ll choke down the connections and speed. Theoretically in my mind since I’m converting my coax to Ethernet via a converter then I SHOULD be able to get rid of the old junky coax router that was provided in my install and replace it with a newer, nicer and faster Ethernet router… correct? The main reason I don’t want a bunch of splitters all over the place going here there and yonder is because I’m also setting up a designated gaming router strictly for my PC and I’d much rather use one “out” of just 1 splitter to my gaming area and hook it up to the 2nd converter my kit came with and have a Ethernet connection directly from the coax coming through the wall and then just a single Ethernet cable from my gaming router to my PC. Sorry for the long post I just wanted to be thorough

    • @MaxsTech
      @MaxsTech  6 місяців тому +3

      Switching the connection from coax and converting to an Ethernet port won’t do anything for your speeds, if you have a coax cable that isn’t rated for 1gig and that’s what you use it’ll still be limited from its end, so adapting to Ethernet wouldn’t change anything. I would contact your provider and ask why your speeds are so slow, if they test the connection and find it truly is slower than your paying for they’ll likely upgrade your router to a newer version that can handle 1gig.

    • @Jeffmd2020
      @Jeffmd2020 6 місяців тому +1

      @@MaxsTech thank you. I had no idea a coax cable was speed rated. Now that I know that I’ll look into it. Sometimes I’ll get as high as 850mbps and the very next test will be 250-300mbps

    What’s a WAN/LAN port on my modem?

    • @MaxsTech
      @MaxsTech  Рік тому

      Wide area network/ Local area network. Uses an Ethernet port and this is where you can connect either your computer to receive internet from your router or a local device you want to have local network access to, like a printer, game console for local multiplayer or a personal server.

    • @MaxsTech
      @MaxsTech  Рік тому

      The WAN port is where the internet from your provider will come into and you can think of the LAN as a splitter of the internet to allow multiple devices to receive it.

      You will need to setup a point to point wifi network. You point the antennae at each other at the roof of the buildings. The antennae should have an ethernet cable that you have to then plug into your router. At the other building, you typically plug this into a network switch. You don't want to use 2 routers as this can create some problems in connectivity.
