    A father describing his relationship with his son as brotherhood is probably the best example of a healthy fatherhood I've ever seen

      I told my friends dad, dont Get lost in the illusion that he’s just your son.
      He’s more than that.
      He’s your best friend too.
      After that it’s not been the same.
      :) it’s more realistic now :)

      You obviously haven't had a brother then because it's ridiculous

    • @Ewr42
      @Ewr42 Рік тому

      @@MrThedonhead or maybe your own relationship with your brother isn't as healthy as Bowie's fatherhood?
      Maybe your idea of brotherhood that doesn't fit healthiness? I think it should, so why isn't it?
      Or maybe you're just still under 20yo. Brotherhood in childhood is VERY different than adult brotherhood.
      Surprisingly, maturity has a LOT to do with healthy relationships. It's basically what implies it. And yeah, most of our experiences of what constitutes brotherhood are lived out at the time we're the most immature and that conception might prevail into adulthood, but we really should be more aware of our own conceptions/interpretations and build towards a more mature view that isn't as self centered around our own experiences.
      My point was about the fundamental power dynamics implied, of laterality instead of hierarchy. Of sharing the world together as equal individuals living in the same reality, obviously with different nuances, but fundamentally just two individuals of the same species that care for each other and as such respect each other without the immature need to feel in power, or on top of the other, of patriarchy and tyranny.
      Usually is that same imbalance that makes brotherly relations toxic and unhealthy, even if both sides fight equally for power and respect(dare i say mimicking not only the family example of patriarchy but also the societal materiality as a whole that praises and influences such behaviors).
      Yes, i get that the common, shared perspective of brotherhood includes such toxicity and interprets it as something inherent, fundamental, and even as what defines it per se; but 325 people have seen my point for laterality over hierarchy and agreed with it, so I do think that brotherhood can be used to describe a healthy fatherhood without being assigned the meaning of toxicity that is implied by the context that the word itself describes.
      A brotherly fatherhood is definitely not the same as the reciprocatingly-fatherly brotherhood that is the material reality of actual brothers while they're growing up together.
      Ultimately, we're not talking about the same thing even though we're both looking at the same thing, i meant another meaning from the one you inferred.
      But internet interactions are such that you're influenced to purposefully misinterpret things to oppose it, bc discussing online is potentially heavily rewarding, and presenting the most trivial interpretation of disagreement has the most potential of reward,which makes us constantly seek out comments just to disagree with them and seek disagreement within every comment we find/are inadvertently exposed to.
      I certainly do that.
      If you think your relationship with your siblings isn't at the point where it'd be consistent with my comment, maybe it already is and you're lying to yourself to make it fit the memes, or maybe it's true, in which case you could start being the mature one and acting as if to fit what I meant by it, or just let it happen without fighting yourself to keep it toxic
      Try treating them as a human, as a friend, as someone you're willing to demonstrate love towards, be vulnerable near, and have empathy for.
      Not that i do that, I'm not mature enough yet
      But I believe it as a goal to be achieved by all.
      Maybe we should just have Bowie-lier relationships all throughout our social sphere is what I really meant.
      I certainly wish myself that my social relationships were more like Bowie's with his son.

    Angie had her failings as a mother - no doubt, but then again so did Bowie as a father the first time round.
    To Bowie’s credit he didn’t make the same mistake’s when his daughter was born. Cool guy, the world is a duller place without him.

      Dancing about with his crotch on full show playing a character seemingly obsessed with a young teenage girl after Bowie himself had allegations of things with minors. It's weird how fans of the film romanticize the heck out of it and even draw images of Sarah and Jareth together. But hey even british celebs like 'comedian' David Baddiel seem to celebrate such things have even said "why on earth wouldn't you want to lose your virginity to david bowie" when exclaiming surprise his then 16 year old friend supposedly turned down 40 something Bowie. Don't make a lot of sense to me why rock stars get a pass for such things. You had Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones being near 50 and openly dating a 13 year old whom he'd later marry and yet he's still regarded as some sort of legend? It's insane.

    Or says a lot about a man who can afford the most expensive lawyers. Not hating just keeping the topic a little broader - not convinced many poor men with no access to high end legal representation in the 70s had much luck with the legal system.

    • @corkandi
      @corkandi 2 роки тому +2

      Never mind the 70's. Men are not having much more luck now. The legal system professes to be all about promoting joint-parenting in the best interest of the child, but it's nothing but a facade. If you're a father and you haven't got thousands to spend...forget it. And even spending thousands doesn't guaranteed that you'll see your child again!

    • @IgorZinken
      @IgorZinken 2 роки тому +2

      While Bowie had had massive success at that point, he actually only started making money in the 80s due to a bad management deal and led a very simple life (his addiction also didn’t help I suppose). I get your point though but just stating that in this case it’s unlikely that money was at play here.

    • @jessejordan8116
      @jessejordan8116 2 роки тому +3

      Well in the divorce settlement his wife got £500,000 and willingly gave Bowie custody. So I guess that settles the matter he wasn’t poor and the courts didn’t give him custody really. And he was a cocaine addict during 70s not exactly speaking to poverty. Anyway interesting topic.

      @@jessejordan8116 You speak the truth, though at that point it was 1980. Anyways no point in us being concerned about the life of a man we didn't know personally.
