I did some research into what makes Post-Punk music sound more like Post-Punk music, and flangers came up a lot. I definitely hear it. It gives it that neo-psychedelic sound.
thx for your videos man, you really helped me out a lot. the videos were all short and really clearly. some people needs 20minutes to complain about one effect pedal while you complain perfect within just 5 minutes. that awesome
I LOVE my Flanger. As a kid the first song I really knew it for was ROCKET RIDE, just bad ass. When I learned to play, my first 3 pedals were Dist and chorus, then a flanger. I have an original Ibanez FL2 (3 knobs) its now a collectors item. When everyone went Digital, i was getting analog stuff dirt cheap! then my friend wanted to buy my analog flanger, LOLOL Nope!
The Secret is Out, Johnny DeMarco is the singer Vocalist of Simply Red, He went back in time through his Time Machine and Decided to come back in real time as his younger self as a Guitarist.
I love flangers and voice boxes where you speak through the tube attached to the guitar. Very bad subtitles though! FLANDERS instead of FLANGERS and SWEET instead of SWEEP
I like this guy, I find him great, What's the difference between a Flanger and a Phazer? A tremolo or a rotary speaker? Some of us don't know, and need a teacher. Lord knows that the UA-cam crowd is no help.
Flanging produces a “whooshing” sound by mixing the audio signal with a slightly-delayed copy of itself, varying the delay continuously. It is so named, legend has it, because it was discovered by accident when a tape machine was being used to produce a delay effect in one of the Beatles’ recording sessions, and somebody touched the rim of the tape reel (called a “flange”), changing the pitch slightly. -- Sibelius Mannual
Same here, I find chorus and phasers boring. Having looked at other reviews of this and other flanger pedals, you can adjust them to sound somewhat like a phaser or chorus.....but you cannot adjust a phaser/chorus to sound like a flanger - so the flanger wins in my book!
I hope you don't mind using this clip for teaching purposes. I teach digital signal processing and I want to used your clip to show the students how a flanger effect sounds like. They have to implement it on a DSP processor.
At the end of this video there are some "examples". I like the number 2. Anyone could say to me some bands that use A LOT of that effect? Because I'm sure it's something that I know, but I don't remember. If anyone knows something "very famous" about the second examples, please help me letting me know about. Thanks in advance.
OK, (& a great overview by the way) SO.. You know that drum roll in the middle of The Small Faces- 'Itchycoo Park' ? Was THAT done by using a Flanger ?? -Do you know ? (Anyway, if it wasn't, it sure sounds like it to me.)
Those old studio effects sounded amazing...like the end of axis bold as love....the tc electronic vortex flanger has a tape flange setting on it that replicates the sound
benjamin woodrow And that is one album I am Very familiar with. When I was 14 years old, I bought Axis: Bold as Love/Are You Experienced? on vinyl, with its fantastic gate-fold sleeve (it was 1978) It was obviously a re-release, but I still listen to both these albums today. If Jimi was still around, he'd be pleased and I have certainly had my money's worth ! Thanks Ben, We are definitely on the same page. = )
I like this guy. He chills me out.
He cured my ear cancer.
Micah Buzan innit! 😂
Everyone loves Johnny Demarco
I liked him until he did oooOOHHHHhhhhooooOOOHHHOooo with his mouth, mimicking the flanger...
He's the Bob Ross of guitar effects.
Why is Kirk Hammett speaking like Bob Ross.
I thought it was Kirk in the Nailthumb hahah
awesome lol
He looks like fredrik from opeth lol
savage
omg
Kirk Hammett and Mac Demarco decided to turn into the same person
this guy's an anxiety curer
He's THE Guru
i love how in all his videos everyone is just talking about him not the actual effects
he's one of my favorite people next to bob ross and reviewbruh
The funny thing is that this actually one the best reviews of the Flanger pedal I've seen
this guy is stoned 24/7
greskana artiklu my first thought lol
I can't unsee it now. The way he moves his arm after strumming and how he slightly opens his mouth. It's amazing
And so do I
Psylocibin not ur average ganz
Nothing wrong with that
I dont play the guitar but I do love learning things. It gives me new appreciation for the art itself.
I did some research into what makes Post-Punk music sound more like Post-Punk music, and flangers came up a lot. I definitely hear it. It gives it that neo-psychedelic sound.
Even the way he plays guitar is super chill and calming.

Wow. Great presentation that explains sounds I've been hearing for 6 decades and never knew what caused them. Thanks!

Enthusiasm is his middle name
He’s probably high as shit and forgot his lines. I would’ve
He is so relaxing in this video, and the flanger pedal only makes his playing more relaxing.
this man has one soothing beautiful voice
His hair makes me crave ramen noodles
Jesse Pinkman I’m eating ramen as I read this comment
Him and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz
is this some twitch inside joke why do i see everyone saying it
If his hair was ramen noodles, they would taste like the good cup chicken ones
Then every time you watch kirk hammet you must want ramen noodles
Flanger is so funky and sick. My favorite of them all
thx for your videos man, you really helped me out a lot. the videos were all short and really clearly.
some people needs 20minutes to complain about one effect pedal while you complain perfect within just 5 minutes. that awesome
Explain, not complain. Complain means speaking out about what bothers you in a non constructive way.
Excellent tutorial. Thanks
This guy is amazing. He reminds me of Bob Ross. Considering these vids were from 2009, I wonder what he's doing now.
Xenoforge78 probably in some underground band, or working at whatever he does
Xenoforge78 stroking off in the shower, that's what
Xenoforge78 he's a part of vox amplication now
He looks like a slimmed down version of Philip McKnight in 2020
If Johnny Demarco was my math/science teacher, I'd probably working at CERN right now.
10 years after the fact I find the definitive Flanger review/Demo. Thanx mang.
Crystal clear explanation. Excellent video.
Cheers from Indonesia
I really appreciate the Diary of a Madman riff
I want this guy to be my personal motivational speaker... and to read me bedtime stories.
I LOVE my Flanger. As a kid the first song I really knew it for was ROCKET RIDE, just bad ass. When I learned to play, my first 3 pedals were Dist and chorus, then a flanger. Really informative, thanks, much better than any other vid on the net!
This makes me effects a whole lot more. Going to watch his chorus and phaser video to probably. Straight to the point, no nonsense.
That's an awesome sounding effect.
This guy is the best.
Thank you Johnny; nicely done!
Good lesson! Thanks!
Very clear and beautiful explanation. Thank you so much. 😊
Johnny for president! U got my vote-always.
"I gonna smoka the Ganja until I go blind...!"
"Unchained" and "Diary of a Madman" immediately come to mind. Oh, talking into an electric fan as well!
This is my favorite effect of all.
SAME BRO HAHA
The Secret is Out, Johnny DeMarco is the singer Vocalist of Simply Red, He went back in time through his Time Machine and Decided to come back in real time as his younger self as a Guitarist.
Straight to the point. Well explained.
This was a very informative and easy to understand video, really helped me understand flangers :)
This guy is the chillest. I like him.
This guy's arm movements after every chord crack me up. Is it really necessary to windmill your entire forearm after every note?
BRBWaffles i know right! It is a bit stupid
yes
Now you point it out i can't stop laughing watching this video again !!!
Yes.
Yes.
I love flangers and voice boxes where you speak through the tube attached to the guitar. Very bad subtitles though! FLANDERS instead of FLANGERS and SWEET instead of SWEEP

Thanks Jonny de Smoko.......LOLZ. This guy is a legend to his family, not so much to the rest of the world !
I want a stomp box with this guys voice as the tone.
3:13 sounds like Pantera.
More like Black Label but yeah
Happy tones! Happy, happy little tones!
Wow, i wanna finally play now. So much to learn tho
Johnny DeMarco is the Billy mays of guitar, and that's a great thing.
you my friend deserve an applause, can´t stop laughing
Thanks man! I can feel your passion and love for the guitar. Hahaha.
That's example 2 at the end was beautiful
This is the first time seeing Johnny DeMarco. He's bad. I like how he get's into the playing. Pretty good vids.
Thank you so much for this video. Now I know what effect the band "Drowning pool" was using for their guitar
Звук потрясающий,влюбляет в себя такое звучание)
i dig this guy! he can fn jam out and he's totally calming my pedal search-anxiety!!!!!
Hi im johnny demarco and i opened a packet of super noodles on my head
PITCHSHIFTER666 😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
best channel this guy is awesome
What is that song at 3:12? I know it, but i dont remember exactly...
The new filter or normal type flanger are the new budget pedals. Could you please do a review of the. ❤
I never knew how it was done. Thanks!
Put another nickel in that jukebox, Billy..... the "Les Paul Squal" .....
Super smooth looking at the script you can barely notice it
I can’t put my finger on it but this guy is the best.
Finally a good pedal demo
Very cool man. That v shaped guitar is fucking awesome too.
I was looking for the name of this type of audio effect, thanks
"Im mac demarco and thanks for spilling ramen on my head"
Can anyone help me with the chord he plays at 1:40 and at 1:51 love it but can't work it out.
this guy cracks me up. Looks like me after eating that last daily ounce of mushrooms for the month.
Good sharing
Comment from Sabah Malaysia
Thank you for uploading very helpful
Watched 3 of these videos and now want all 3 pedals haha
2:10 watch his mouth as the effect sustains haha compare it to when he had the effect off and he's all sad haha
You're the best di Marco!
good video thanks for this video Johnny !!!
O melhor vídeo do UA-cam sobre o assunto.
The mouth movements are fascinating.
Great demo Kirk Whammett
His voice like ASMR videos before ASMR
Great vids man. One question though, are you baked? You look and sound like you've had a few bongs
excellent demos
When he went lydian on the resonance demonstration, I felt that so hard
Why it doesnt have a level control? It may sound too loud for other drive or dirt with lower output
Slow palm muted riffs + Flanger = EPIC
Johnny D is the man
In the video thumbnail I thought it was Kirk Hammett

I like your level of detail. 👍
i've heard a lot of this effect in frank zappa songs. sounds good!
check out the Keeley Bubbletron Dynamic Flanger.. it was inspired by the unique flange Zappa used. Worlds better than this lame-o flange.
Fuckin' love this dude

Maybe Soundgarden or Incubus?
OK, (& a great overview by the way) SO..
You know that drum roll in the middle of The Small Faces- 'Itchycoo Park' ?
Was THAT done by using a Flanger ?? -Do you know ?
(Anyway, if it wasn't, it sure sounds like it to me.)
MungoidHen probably done with the actual tapes rather than a pedal back then
benjamin woodrow I think you are probably right Ben.
Those old studio effects sounded amazing...like the end of axis bold as love....the tc electronic vortex flanger has a tape flange setting on it that replicates the sound

MungoidHen haha no problem yeah I bought that album probably when I was about that age too a lot later than 78 though :)
this sound actually makes me wanna do the earthquake
But will it do the opening for Turbo Lover?
Jimi Hendrix was famous for his use of a flanger
2:25 Diary of Madman 🤘
I have a flanger on my Boss MD-500 but need advice on settings for EVH and Pink Floyd and other songs.
