i agree.....if someone starts a demo vid and gets straight down to business thats what we want.....not a fcuk about demo....Jonny gets a thumbs up from me.....👍
I don't think anyone doubts his musicianship - the man plays his arse off! Amazing guitarist! And, yes, his explanations and demos are very clear indeed. But with that said, the weird (and wonderful) face expressions, the persona and, mainly, that voice!!!! Fuck a duck! I keep asking myself if this is for real.....
Just going to say publicly that I fucking love this guy. When I was first starting out, these videos helped me understand which effects I was looking for to emulate the tones I wanted. His Bob Ross-like style of explaining the intricacies of these pedals, as well as giving practical examples of what the controls do played a massive role in making me the guitarist I am today. The dude also plays some mean guitar.
These videos are really great for clear, concise summaries of what different pedals do. Some people on here are completely unappreciative of your great work. Their loss. Keep it up!
I took a few lessons from Johnny, great player and teacher, really nice guy. He was a winner of the Best Guitarist in Cleveland competition. He did a two handed version of Sinatra's New York a la Stanley Jordan among other things to win that one.
The most clear explanation about how a compressor pedal work. Very easy to understand. I may be 11 years late but I must say I am very grateful for this guy.
Very well explained. What I like most - he explains what the nature of a effect is and it's influence on the guitar's sound. Uses simple methods - speaks about how it works, how to use it. He shows clear, noticeable differences between each knob purpose. Short, solid video.
Perfect delivery of what the pedal does and not a half hour explanation of your own likes and dislikes. Great audio examples of the control knobs functions. Thank you Johnny Demarco for giving me the facts and letting me decide for myself what I need as a musician!! Well done!!
Indeed! Those were some fine country examples you played for us, young fellow! Particularly in example 2, the marvelous country picking you displayed was very reminiscent of the Buck Owens sound I remember so well! Such a fine talented lad, yes indeed!
My god these videos are amazing. Most vids on pedals talk to you as if you have some sort of experience with pedals, and their explanations of the effects and different knobs are terrible. They just turn the knob up and expect you to know how it changes just by listening, where as with these videos, you actually explain in terms people like me, who have absolutely zero experience with effects, can easily understand. Thank you!!
This video series is great. Well done, Roland. You guys make some really amazing products and Johnny here is showing us a plethora of ways to take advantage of the sweet and unique sounds you can achieve using these bad ass pedals. Keep the videos coming if you can! These videos would definitely be a key aspect in which pedal I pick up next.
go ahead and bash and make fun of this guy but remember him every morning when you get up early to go to your 9 to 5 job and he get to go and play guitar for a living !! 😃
2 days ago I was watching some, so called, UA-cam instructional videos on things like, the Spark 2, and Logic Pro. Like I said, they were suppose to be instructional videos. The only problem, which seems to exist a lot with instructional videos on UA-cam, is they went too fast, and didn't define terms they were using. I just saw all of Johnny's pedal instructional vids, and I think they're the best I've seen. The videos also have a very clean and well thought out approach. Fantastic Johnny!
Darn, I wanted to find a good compressor pedal, and now I'm stuck to this guy's videos and reading the comments. I guess he is a super nice guy, but I've cried tears from laughing...
Wow.. this is like the perfect video. I didn't know anything about compressor pedals and now I feel like a freakin expert. lol Great guitar work and sound too.
I’m just starting out to learn about effects and pedals and this was such a great demo (and a bit sensual at that 😏). I could really tell the difference in the attack demo, but other than that everything was great! Thank you!!!
Honestly, i'm going through all of these "101" videos just because of this guy. They're also concise and informational. Roland really hit it out of the park with this guy. Hahahaha.
Hey Johhny, very pleasantly & sensibly narrated +evenly paced,-made sense all the way.Top marks,& Thankyou so much !!- I'm down to choice of 3'- (Boss CS2)-( MXR M132 ) or ( Wampler EGO Comp' ) I just wondered why, in your close out strut, you didn't show us an onscreen pic' of the settings you were using, but no matter Gr8!! job. Kind R'grds. Atmos.
It seems like compression pedals can be used to mask picking mistakes. Like if you pick a note too softly or too hard. Would it be reasonable to say that you should practice without a compression pedal and then add it in for live performances?
I feel like compression has been added to this video with the way this guy's whispering to me lol. Jokes aside, thanks for taking the time to explain this. I've been working to understand how each of the dynamics pedals work.
So just out of curiosity if you wanted to play a lot of southern rock and Country and try to get a little tele twang and then some southern rock flavor is this the ideal compressor pedal to get? the Cs I'm just kind of stupid and curious
I've never seen a more sensual compressor tutorial

Harlequin Bromance Tutorials.
I encountered this dude at the Boss/Roland booth at a guitar show years ago and can tell you that this is not an act; he’s just like this irl lol.
yeah he seems like a really cool dude
same!!!! he was a teacher at my work.

Thanks but my name isn't irl
He should have done this review in a candlelit bath.

this legit made me spit corn chips all over a console. THanks for that :)
Let's be reasonable here, guys.
This is a 101 and the man does a good job.
Fine player, on top of that.

I love this guy. Straight to the point. No 20 minute video to explain you something in 3
Yeah, I got the impression he loves us all too... :-))
Yeah, so many youtubers talk for like 3 minutes before getting to the point of the video.
yeah, and also played a very respectable solo

Bob Ross! *That's* who he reminds me of! Lol
I was scrolling to see if anyone had that thought haha
and what a lot of people don't know, is that you can open this little compartment, and stash your weed in there
I have a buddy that used to stash his LSD in battery compartments of guitar pedals lmao
Lmao I thought I was the only one to do this hahaha
But weed smells -un- fortunately. So, if you have drug-sniffing friends/ppl in your house...
In Michigan weeds legal so no more stashing
Roland Canada approves ;)
These videos are really great for clear, concise summaries of what different pedals do. Some people on here are completely unappreciative of your great work. Their loss. Keep it up!
+visiblemode yeah man, very informative. thanks!
+visiblemode I appretiate the vids. but the guy is hillarious with those pauses.
I agree with you, great videos indeed. But there's something... interesting about this guy. Lol
This guys voice is amazingly soft
It needs compression
@@Zacapisco3 its overcompressed
This dude is chill af and I can't believe this video is almost ten years old! The quality is amazing!
those eyea will tell......chillin like a villain
this guy is like the Mister Rogers of Rock and Roll.
I was thinking Bob Ross

You've got a sweet Sesame Street kind of voice.
I think he's reading the script in my soul.
He's compressing his voice as he's speaking to us
This has to be the best bunch of no-nonsense guitar pedal videos ever put together.
The most clear explanation about how a compressor pedal work. Very easy to understand. I may be 11 years late but I must say I am very grateful for this guy.
14 years later and your video just helped me decide that I need to get a compressor. Thank you for your excellent and timeless video!

finally a guy who actually "explains" what the pedal does..and shows examples..nice..thanks dude..i need one a these..to tighten all the loose noise..

This guy has that soothing voice you can hear in some type of meditation or hypnosis recordings :D
He reminds me of a tai chi instructor I know. His voice has this....mellow tone to it.
I totally forgot about this guy! Johnny’s the man. All these years later he’s still taking us to school.
Wow, I could listen to this guy for hours. Hypnotic, melodic, soothing tone and voice and modulation.

These videos are great, Jphnny - thanks very much. Beautifully clear explanations of how these things work.

I met this guy and hung out in his studio. He's just as chill in real life. Cool guy for sure
If I didn't already have one I would get another after watching this, great vid as ever and far more entertaining than just about everyone else.
I could listen this demo all day, so cool, and easy like Sunday morning.
Nicely done. Kept hearing "Holding Back The Years" in my head.
What a great tutorial. I've never left a pedal tutorial feeling like I know exactly how to use the pedal but after this I'm feeling pretty good
This guy makes actually useful, relevant vids on pedals and is not annoying to hear talking. a hoof up for you!

Informative and hilarious kudos to Johnny, A+ on all fronts.
this series of vids is great, finally I was said in clear and understable way what does each effect do :)
Does anyone know if this would help when using tons of reverb to stop it squealing and getting too loud?

is it advisable to use compressor when im using hard rock to metal distortion? your advice John would be very helpfull.
the sustain would mess up the timing of some delays. i keep the compressor on with only delays where timing is not a factor. does that make sense?
