My second favorite Game Show after "WHAT'S MY LINE" (1950-1967). Always a pleasure to see one of my favorite actors Roddy McDowall on the "telly", as the Brits say.
@@gingerbaker4390 Yes, google him. He had a very interesting life. From England and came here before WW II. Became a big child star in Hollywood and then as an adult became a supporting actor in a lot of big movies. BFF’s with Elizabeth Taylor.
I have loved Elizabeth Ashley ever since seeing her in "When Michael Calls" and "A Fire in the Sky". And Roddy McDowall is adorable and good in a Night Gallery episode.
Roddy still looks like he could walk Lassie home. By this stage he still looked like the child actor that he once was. Sadly, he is no longer with us passing at age 70 in 1998.
Sometimes when Allen jumps out and says loudly "roughly a form of the word!!" it scares me; I know it had to when he was live right in the contestants' faces...
If I were giving the clues for loafer I'd hope my opponent would say 👞 so that I could follow up with penny. I like how Roddy followed up with child after the clue angry. I 💘 how it can also help your opponent if your partner can't come up with the answer after a great clue
Clueless what 'Vecuvius" was . Total embarrassment in the lightning round. Like a trooper though, as soon as the round ended, she wasted no time getting off camera.
Some words are just second clue words. The later shows with the option to pass, makes and better game. plus all the other changes. This is a really good "TV time" for kids, to play with their parents.
I'm not sure, but I think they may have had Glad bags (sandwich, trash etc.) back then - I do remember seeing early commercials with glad sandwich bags when I was a kid. So I'm wondering if "Bags" could have worked as a clue for "Glad" - maybe a long shot, but…
If they only had a time machine to go 29 years into the future, for "Ace" said with a lot of flourish (like Jim Carrey might have done it) you could have given the clue "Ventura!" :-)
Allen Ludden is not being sexist or chauvinistic in not asking what a woman does for a living. At that time most women were either married or if they did have a job, many quit their jobs after marriage. Yes, it might have been nice to ask every woman what they did for a living but the audience might have become quite bored with hardly hearing that a single woman had a job or a married woman had an additional job either inside or outside the home. Or the audience might have wondered, "why is the host even asking that question?".
I've binged watched Password for the last month, usually watching several episodes a day. But the reuse of so many of the same words is rather tiresome. What what?
Game shows had real class the guests were well manored an the contestants dressed proper not like today they let the constants come out in ripped distressed jeans. . ..smh. Come on
Why when everything was always done so much better back then? They probably didn't even have germs or viruses back then. Everything then was so proper and better than today, wasn't it? lol
From what I've heard of him, it was impossible to work with Roddy McDowall and not become lifelong friends with him. If I would have been an actor in Hollywood's golden age, he's the one actor I would have wanted to have worked with. We lost him to lung cancer. R.I.P. Roddy
Roddy McDowall was very handsome and had a fascinating smile
Ashley and McDowell are so charming...Ludden's day is extra bright! Love this show and thanks for posting such classic, smart memories!
They were also dear friends- so charming, yes?
Wow, both Elizabeth and Roddy were great at this game!
I love also what a practical joker Roddy seemed to be, he was adorable. LOL
He was adorable and had a reputation for being one of the nicest people in Hollywood. He Also could keep confidences...
@@randysills4418 Perhaps he was good at keeping confidences since at the time he had one of his own. Today it's more acceptable.

Roddy McDowall is very attractive in this. I also like the way he stands up to greet each guest.
I love Roddy McDowall. He was supposed to be a very nice person in real life.
He sounds English. Did he grow up there. ?

@@GiftSparks Very interesting.....
Thank you.
He was a very nice man from all accounts that I have read. He left Carol Burnett something in his will...I think it was a piece of furniture...

Love this show!!🙂
"Ship of Fools"
Roddy still looks like he could walk Lassie home. By this stage he still looked like the child actor that he once was. Sadly, he is no longer with us passing at age 70 in 1998.
Roddy McDowall is so young in this and so good looking miss him a whole lot
Thank you! Now I know who he is!
Great in everything..and in one of my favorite columbo's!
Roddy McDowell was such a good actor. He started young with Elizabeth Taylor.
Although he grew up to be a very good adult actor, I will always remember McDowall as the boy in "How Green Was My Valley."
Roddy was on a roll! Great clues...
Roddy was such a gentleman. I miss television like this.
That had to have been a great practical joke that Roddy pulled on Elizabeth, with all the movie studio people's help.
Roddy MacDowall was a very intelligent person...
He really was. Excellent player too.
I would have said "penny" for "loafer" and then I would have said "shoe."
Roddy looks so young in this, wouldn't get into an r rated movie, by himself!
No, he did that at home.
I always asked Roddy McDowell. I see why. He is so charming.
Roddy was the nicest man!!! So sorry to see him coughing!
Thank you for sharing this, i enjoyed this tremenously. I love Bullwhip Griffin and That Darn Cat. I love Roddy and miss him a lot.
It's weird seeing Roddy coughing so much since he ultimately died of lung cancer; I guess he was a smoker.
Yes, he was a smoker but he usually didn't cough that much.
Loved Roddy
The Bookworm on a roll!!
5:00 If you watch Roddy's eyes you can almost hear him saying to himself, that's a stupid clue.. but, hold on, brilliant! Popcorn?
Sometimes when Allen jumps out and says loudly "roughly a form of the word!!" it scares me; I know it had to when he was live right in the contestants' faces...
Roddy was a cute guy. Personality too. :)
Roddy is sharp

I'm afraid that after a while people will look at Roddy's third partner and think, despite how gorgeous she is, "How did she get on this show?"
Keith Evers If she had let her hair down, she'dve had the brain power to win the lightning round!!
Keith Evers she seemed so cute and naive
Clueless what 'Vecuvius" was . Total embarrassment in the lightning round. Like a trooper though, as soon as the round ended, she wasted no time getting off camera.
So many Working Girls on here!
Elizabeth Ashley memorable in the film Coma
Great role in Coma indeed!!!
That's where I've seen her! Yes. She was super creepy, in that movie.
Some words are just second clue words.

For loafer clues could have been shoe, penny.
16:14 guessing "mountain" when the clue is "lava" should get you disqualified from living
In 2021 Roddy would have to cough into his sleeve.
I'm not sure, but I think they may have had Glad bags (sandwich, trash etc.) back then - I do remember seeing early commercials with glad sandwich bags when I was a kid. So I'm wondering if "Bags" could have worked as a clue for "Glad" - maybe a long shot, but…
Penny for loafer
Jack Clark is the announcer.
For the final time. The next week, Gene Wood took over for a month, then Lee Vines took over permanently.
From CBS Television City in Hollywood.
Liz finally got the hang if it.
A possible clue to the password "ladder" would have been "Jacob's"
For Loafer, since nothing else worked, they should have tried BREAD!
Or Penny
I thought "penny" would work.
Although it might be a long shot, for "Loafer" I might try (said with a big smile) "Bread…"
I’m 95 I slept with Roddy he had the Biggest ____ I had Ever scene !!! Sweet man !!
Looks like Roddy had a smoker’s cough.
He did.
Carol's coif is beyond absurd.
matches her play
Aww, Roddy! I would’ve run off to get him some water.
wow, he got sarong. I had to google it
Wow. Ashley and McDowall could have passed for siblings.
And I see they played cousins in "The Third Day". I believe it.
They were also dear friends- so charming, yes?
If they only had a time machine to go 29 years into the future, for "Ace" said with a lot of flourish (like Jim Carrey might have done it) you could have given the clue "Ventura!" :-)
Carolyn wasnt that bright
Does Allen run the clicker (for when time is up for a clue or response)?

What what?
Allen Ludden's hair seems darker in these episodes. As time went on, his hair became much lighter. Eventually, it was golden blonde.
Woo Hoo! Shout-out to Garbage Grove!

Silly to try and match wits with Dr. Cornelius.
I should have watched this whole thing before I made a comment I think that is hilarious with lightsabers and you spit it out like it's teeth
gosh liz was pretty....
How these contestants made it out of the sixties is anyone's guess, with the ridiculous answers and lack of knowledge they provided.
R.McDowell needs to excuse himself and go wash his hands.😓
"R. McDowell"? You mean Roddy McDowall?
Why when everything was always done so much better back then? They probably didn't even have germs or viruses back then. Everything then was so proper and better than today, wasn't it? lol
