    Last time i saw this tutorial, i fell asleep listen to you, around the minute 46 and dreamt a talk with you, in which you were explaining to me why i was wanting to learn how to use this machine, you were talking about the vanguard of how information manifest, and how this machine was a chanel, like us, in which one god from one dimension communicate with another god from another, and that in the new driver update will be translation of those messages, now im trying to fall a sleep again, im tired

    Step 10 is a very tricky situation. I find the best way to avoid any kind of confusion or trouble is instead of waiting until you're done modifying the old kit into a new kit before saving, I just straight away save it as a new kit before I even start to make changes.

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  7 років тому

      +alienanxiety that is probably for he best. To start out this way.

    • @AlexLeonard
      @AlexLeonard 7 років тому +1

      Certainly on the analog 4 if I move into a new pattern I'll usually load a new empty kit, or copy the old kit into a new kit slot and use it to modify it as a build on the previous kit.

      @truecuckoo  7 років тому

    Very thorough dude, thanks! The RYTM can be a bit weird with saving, with all those layers. It's nice to have everything explained in one video.
    I did a little discovery recently which might be useful to some. So I'll just put this here, because this is the internet, fer chrissakes. Free information and such.
    I use an external sequencer to trigger the RYTM. The sequencer in the RYTM is great, but I use a pretty advanced sequencer as the heart of my setup, and I don't want sequences to be running on two places a the same time.
    So essentially, I only need KITS. Thing is: A Program change only loads a PATTERN.
    A PATTERN only saves which kit goes with it when there is either:
    A Trig in the sequencer
    A PERF assigned.
    It probably works with Scenes as well, haven't tested it.
    This is important because otherwise sending program changes to the RYTM will be useless if your goal is to switch kits. If you want that. be sure that you have at least one trig on the pattern, or a performance assigned.
    Hope this'll help somebody out ;)

    This is so well presented and makes things much clearer. Nice work. The diagrams are very helpful with colours too.
    I will also add about kits: I like to 'Save As...' so I can make multiple versions of kits. This way I don't have to build each kit from scratch manually for each pattern

    I am an octatrack user and before I bought the rytm I watched this complete video and could imediately start and never lost a thing, because I was focusing on dealing with Kits right from the beginning. You are so funny trying to wrap your head around saving kits and things you shouldn`t do - to not overwrite things which should not be overwritte :) made me really laugh:)

    great tutorial as usual, thank you. Not sure if this was covered in the comments but @45:26 - this is not a bug. There is an option to reload kits on pattern change or not. You have it to NOT reload kit on pattern change which is the default setting. i prefer this setting to allow experimentation until you decide to either save as a new kit or reload the existing kit, rather than accidentally switching patters and wiping out your tweaks.

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  7 років тому +2

    regarding loading kits around :45ish, check the global option to reload kit on pattern change. this one gets me every time.

    • @truecuckoo
      @truecuckoo  7 років тому

      Thanks! Ah that option might be useful to fiddle around with. But I can also see it useful to be switched off. If you're jamming in a chain for instance it'd make sense to have it switched off. Thanks.

    Really late to the party here. First thing: thank you!
    Then, a small request: the diagram displayed from 1:40 is just what people need to grasp upon the fundamentals of the AR's system architecture and terminology.
    I believe making this diagram available for DL would multiply the impact of this video, which is already quite the best one all over the place for new AR users.
    The AR's is immediate as an instrument but many musicians need to build a mental model of its workflow and architecture.
    A lot of them give up.
    Please consider my request :)
    Thanks once again man!

    Really great tutorial. Elektron really should have done proper tutorials themselves on fundamentals like this. It's such a complex and tedious operating system to learn and I don't know If I can really be bothered with it. I followed and did something wrong again and I don't know what. I made a project, saved, make a kit and pattern, saved the kit, changed bank but every bank i change to still has the same pattern as the original bank for some reason and isn't empty. I edited some steps in the kick pattern, edited the kick sound and saved as a new kit. Then I go back to my first pattern and it's not there, and I go back to my original kit and it's just the same as my newly tweaked one - so now somehow I have 2 kits and 2 patterns saved in different places that sound identical. Great. I wanted to get into the RYTM and was tying to give it a second chance but I'm really getting fed up with it's BS. I think they just massively overcomplicate simple things and make these devices a chore. It makes me yearn for my trackpad and laptop. All i want to so is make some sounds with a pattern and save it. Then make another etc. How hard should that be?

      Pete Horam. Hi I did some homework before getting my AR. I watched the tutorials for many weeks and then decided to buy. I had got the Monomachine in 2007 and returned it in 12 hours. It was too deep, the manual was unhelpful and Elektron takes fir granted you know as much as them.
      But chill. Don't give up on the AR.
      Every new pattern you try will be loaded with the default sounds.
      Try this.
      Load project
      Load new project
      Give it a name
      Save the project.
      Let's say you call it First
      Now go to bank A pattern 1
      You will have the default sounds.
      Save the Kit which is related to Bank A patttern 1
      Call it First 1
      Now when you make any changes to Kit First one and you like it
      Go to save Kit
      Press save and Kit
      Your First 1 is now saved.
      Every time u make changes and u like it
      Save Kit or ur changes are lost
      Go to bank A pattern 2
      Save the Kit as First 2
      Which means Bank A pattern 2 is saved as a separate kit and the same as First 1
      Make changes to pattern 2 on Kit First 2 and if you like the changes
      Press save and Kit. Your pattern 2 is saved
      Now you have two patterns with two separate kits.
      Tip. If you make Bank A pattern 1
      You can Copy the same to any pattern but save it with a separate name so that when u make changes it will play the different sounds you chose.
      Hope it helps
