The Analog Rytm is a deep machine. To make a full tutorial would take a lot of planning. Something I'm not very good at, he he.
In this improvised walkthrough I'm taking you through the workflow of creating a couple of sounds, loading samples into a project, creating performances and scenes, and programming, live recording and jamming out a little sequence.
Please leave a comment if there's something you like, or something you'd like to see in the next video. I'll try and be more structured in the next video, he he :)
If you'd like to support me finansially, please consider throwing in a couple of bucks each time I make a new video with this service called Patreon. It's a great service for supporting independent artists.

Hey Cuckoo - I know this video is old but I just found it and it was a great help to me!.Thank you so much!
Thanks Ryan! I appreciate it 🙏🏼
Here I am exactly 3 years later, checking out your video, again (I've watched each of your RYTM tutorials about 30 times each). I finally got my AR yesterday, and I've done my best to learn everything I can about this drum machine. I love it already, and your videos on it have given me great tips to get the most out of my machine. Thank you so much for these videos. They are amazing.
+Blusummrs thanks mate!! Lovely to hear my videos are put to good use!
Hello all. Here's a ONE HOUR video of the Analog Rytm by WeAre Elektron. Sorry for the lengthy video :) Instead of listing features properly, this is a loose in-the-moment workflow walkthrough. Ending with a little jam. Please view it in HD to see the display properly.
Yay Cuckoo's back! No skipping? Oh well, there's my lunch hour all gone
Thanks Ronny H. Kavli. I know.. It is a premium price for a premium machine. A big investment. Not for everyone, but definitely for anyone deeply into making and/or performing music. It's good stuff. With big investments like this it's always a good idea to go hands on first, and see if you resonate on a personal level.
This is a really superb tech demo - gives a much better feel of the machine in use than a fully prepared and scripted one where someone is trying to run through all the features in 20 minutes. I got a much better sense of the sound and workflow from this one than most others - I think you should stick with the long-form style, it fits your personality and it makes for a better learning experience with the extra context. Subscribed!
I've just bought the analog rytm. I've watched your walk through, and i'm starting to think i have a faulty machine. I browse through the retrig colours in chromatic, but i'm only getting the same tone over the whole of the four colours. Am i missing a step or something? Cheers Cuckoo- love your work.
luap ekcol Check the Sound Settings menu, sample or synth needs to be set to Chromatic to scale - they might be set to OFF
You're a legend for doing this, I've had my Rytm for 2 weeks but been so busy with work I've not had the chance to delve into the manual. First weekend off where I can really sit at it and this is a great headstart. Thanks.
The Analog keys making a sound video is equally magnificent. Picked up a few tips from that too!
Really good demonstration Cuckoo, especially the power of performance and scene modes. It's like each machine from Elektron takes it to the next level when it comes to these functions!
This walk-thru is great (as is Cuckoo's 1 hour MEGA Tutorial) AFTER you tinker with your new Analog Rytm machine a little bit. You won't know how informative these video's are until you start having your own questions. I played with my AR for an hour last night and then watched this in the morning. In the last half he answered about 30 of my questions and saved me hours of frustration. Super valuable.
Eric Davis Thanks Eric! That's great to hear. Then it's definitely worth the effort :)
I am so happy with this walkthrough video, Cuckoo! My Analog Rytm arrived today and I have learned so much already by just following your steps. Thank you very much for your effort, I really appreciate it.
That makes me really happy to hear! Then all my efforts are worth the hard work! :)
Elektron needs to put you on the payroll. Excellent teaching. You made learning this machine so much easier. Thanks
Thanks man! Then it's worth all the effort! We are collaborating from time to time. Like in a few weeks I'm gonna go with them to the NAMM show, to help them demo the Analog Keys.
Yea man, Your excellent. I really like how you tweak every sound as you go. It really helped with what knowing what the machine can do. It's much deeper than any drum machine I've ever used.
I would love to see a walkthrough on patterns, chains, and songs. You're a natural at this stuff. The function plus mute trick was great to learn about, thanks again.
Got one of these on the way- These kind of videos are super helpful and should make picking up the instrument and getting some good jams going right out of the box a lot easier! Thanks Cuckoo!
Cuckoo you are tha MAN! I just got mine today and I LOVELOVELOVE it! It's so exciting to play around with and rocks right out of the box!! THANK YOU for being so cool and doing these vids. All the best to ya!
Thank you so much!! That really made me happy!
Thanks for all of this Cuckoo, took this in as well as your Mega Tutor over the last two days. Such a wealth of help to save heeps of time. Thank you! Will def donate to you over Patron. Keep on Keepin on and Stay nice and Stay Cuckoo! All the best brutha
Hi Cuckoo, really great walkthrough! Would be great to see something about connecting other gear to the Rytm and making use of the compressor, etc. Many thanks!
Two years after buying the rytm and 6 years after your tutorial I finally have the time to dive deep into it. Thank You!!!
Cheers Cuckoo, I'm really digging your Elektron tuts. This is very helpful to watch as I wait for my AR to arrive.
Amazing run through of the Analog Rytm!
at this moment I'm waiting for mine to be posted out to me so I thought I'd sit down and watch this in anticipation, excellent work Mr Cuckoo..kudos.
Hey Cuckoo! Thanks for this great overview! Got my Rytm yesterday. This video helped me a lot to step into this massive machine! Love your other videos too! Greetings from Germany ✌🏼️
Good to hear! I'm glad I could be of help :) I ought to do a new one soon, with the new functionality of the updated OS.
I should have my unit soon so this gives me a chance to study up. Very good introduction here. Everyone should realize the best drum machine since the 808.
Thanks! Good luck man. It's a drum machine for life.
Great video, really in depth... Feel like there's so much in this machine you could probably go on and on as there's so much in there that it can do!
Very impressive beat tweaking / making capabilities!
Could lose myself in this box of tricks for hours!
To be honest I don't know what I would do without your tutorials! They are premium gold worth!! Have a great weekender +cuckoomusic!!
i know Im asking randomly but does someone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account??
I somehow lost the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Archer Knox instablaster =)
Brilliant walkthrough! Great stuff, thanks!
Thank you Cuckoo.!! It would be totally impossible for me to have fun with RYTM without your videos.!!
Ok did the hour, gave a nice insight, love that you can range the swing function.
Excellent walkthrough video and especially upload timing since I am stuck at home waiting for delivery myself today :)
Love your way to teach. Funny and no tedious at all. keep it up!
got myself an Elektron RYTM recently and found this video very helpful ... thanks for sharing :D
Thanks, this is by far one of the better tutorials on the rytm.
Awesome stuff! Really helpful and appreciated. Look forward to more! Something similar on the A4 keys would be immense. Thanks again!
Thank you cuckoo for the great walk through! Really one of my fav tutorials. Elektron should pay you :)
Just got mine today and of course hit YT to find a tutorial. This one from Cuckoo is great and very thorough. Thanks!
Thanks! Glad you like it. Since then there has been some slight update. One extremely useful feature is function+Yes to preview samples while you're browsing.
Excellent video. Really helped me get around some of the basic functions I wasn't quite grasping. Elektron community is the best!!!!
Great run-through of the Rytm!
Thanks Cuckoo, very inspiring tutorial for this great instrument.. keep up the good work, I love your videos.
this video helped me to decide to buy an analog rytm, great vid as always, thank you Cuckoo!
Anzu Riki You're most welcome Anzu! Glad I could be of help.
Informative video yet very enjoyable!! I expected to skip but I didn't need to~
Thank you very much.
The scene modes and perf modes are very promising and very tempting....
... from a Machinedrum owner
Hey Cuckoo, FYI your videos and the recent Elektron sale sold me on the Analog Rytm. I am watching again and going through the controls on my own unit now. Cheers!
PopsGribs Yeeey! I hope you'll have a great time! Selecting your machine is very personal, and people like different things. I was never interested in drum machines until the Rytm came around. It changed my perception of what a drum machine should be like. Thanks for writing back, mate! Appreciate it :)
Hey Man :) I really enjoyed the video :) You have a very comfortable and easy transcription of the information and i like that.
Just got AR two days ago and this video is a total blessing! Thank you for sharing.
+Geoffrey Graven (Sung) you're welcome! Thanks for telling me this! A lot of things has happened since I made this video. I should make a new video soon about the new functionality.
Awesome! Started to watch your "mega tutorial" too, really helpful as well and so much to learn, will take me lot of time. I'm having troubles transferring samples though, when I try to transfer big quantities (like 200 files) the copy process in C6 stops at the 8th or 9th file and says "done". I've checked the files' size and they don't exceed 100ko each, my AR OS is up to date, using last version of C6. I'd be glad if you had any tips regarding that matter! Cheers.
***** I remember having some issues like that at times too.. I can't recall what I did to fix it though.. Poking around in many of the midi settings etc. Restarting the computer. I don't know. Perhaps there are specific files that are causing problems? I'll keep you in mind if a solution pops up.
Ok I'll try. Thanks!
this is very helpful to have a good knowledge about these complex boxes, thank you for making great tutorials ;)
Hi Cuckoo, very nice video, as always!!
The most difficult thing about RYTM, is the file system. So I think I will speak for many people if I ask you:
please show in the next video, how to create more patterns, and have different kits attached to them, how to copy paste a pattern, and modify it without loosing the one that was copied, etc.
+Async Async thanks! Yeah it's a bit messy at first, all of this. Noted.
Excellent review!
After this review I have definitely made up my mind to buy the Rytm. Have been trying to decide if it is the machine for me, but with the depth of this review it has cemented the decision for me.
Love the idea that the Rytm has a killer bass lurking inside ;)
Wow, thanks John! I hope you'll like it! It's very powerful, and the circuitry has many possibilities with future software updates, I've been told. It's a great platform! Good luck.
Thanks!
That was super helpful, thanks man :) Truly going to be lost in this machine now for months...
I love this guy. I'm gunna send him some funds to keep going. His videos helped me out a bunch.
+Natalie Azer-Meskiel thank you so much Nat!
thank you cuckoo! this video is very helpful :) especially the relation of the different decays and overdrive mechanics....greeting from germany
Thnx man for great walkthrough...this helps me to better understand this amazing machine...this is reel deep stuff
Tack kompis! Riktigt kul.
Thanks! The tutorail was very helpful. It would be awesome to see you doing videos about side chaining with the Rytm.
Thanks Cuckoo, very nice video, this is just what I needed to get started! Thanks man. :-)
Excellent, I for one would like to see the same type of slow detailed walkthrough for the Analog Keys.
Thank you
"this is massive, can you hear it? It's massive !"
love your tutorial :)
+vodkaenergie Massive thanks, mate! :)
This is really helpful, thanks for posting!
Thanks for doing this! Would love to see more of the pattern and song modes. Making a linear song/track. Plus recording some automation filter moves over the complete song. It does not even have to be a long one. Could be like a 1 minute song, just showcasing how to program a full performance with various moving patterns into a full song.
man thanks for the video.... Stacking up and then I'll be getting this machine asappppppp
Excellent !! I learned a lot quickly !
Amazing video!!! I'm a machine user and I'm thinking on getting this and this actually help me decide thank you.
Sebastian Gomez Thank you Seb! It's great machine. Glad to be of help :)
Sebastian Craft Same here
great job cuckoo! really helped me a lot!
+Thomas Genay that's great! I'm glad you found my efforts helpful :)
The best tutorial. Much appreciation!
helpful and more enjoyable than reading a Manual, Thanks
This is an EXCELLENT tutorial! Thank you!!!!!!
That rimshot 💥
Thanks, great demonstration.
Excellent video. entertaining and very helpful!
Excellent walkthrough! I've been trying the AR hands on at my local music store. But It's a really deep machine, so even though i own a few Elektrons (MD+MM+OT) it's not possible to just "play" it without some real knowledge. This will help a lot! Thanks! :)
Yeah there's a lot of specific things about the Rytm that you need to understand before you can start get the hang of it. The first time I tried it I didn't understand much, and suddenly it was in some mode and I couldn't play. I think just understanding the different modes was the key to getting started.
cuckoomusic Thanks for that, helps me alot and making me a video series how im proceeding in work with rytm and A4. Go on with that!
I am getting one with the Octatrack. Thank you.
Hi, thanks so much for your inputs and help, on my line Input, much appreciated. On another note I was confused between buying the the Machine drum or the Rytm, but now I decided on the Rytm with Bridge coming and i believe Elektron may be giving you a hardware controller for the parameters under the hood…just a guess…cheers
Excellent video! Make one more, and I wouldn't mind it being even longer, hah.
Nice! I am thinking of getting the new Elektron Analog Rytm MKII for my drum machine.
+Renaissance Man it's a good one.
How does it compare to the DSI Tempest drum machine?
Thank you so much!!!! really good video.
Great video!
Great tutorial. Thx 4 share.
Now come you're the "Prince" of elektron analog rytm and analog four :)
He's got the Analog Keys, too! I wonder if he has an Octatrack?
schepler2 I do not have a Octatrack, I share with you only the OP-1, but I would like to buy a SFX-60+ mkII Euro Monomachine :)
Excellent video man! Thank you so much. The one thing I would like to see in detail if possible is a little more in depth walkthrough of the sequencer and pattern creation. Thanks to this video, now I really got the handle on the FX section of the machine. I'll like to see a video on the sequencer and pattern creation and editing. Thanks again cuckoomusic
Juan Pablo Romano, thanks mate! I hear you about the patterns. A lot of people are asking for it. I'm a bit busy at the moment, so I don't know when. But you could check out the Sequencer/ Pattern video I made for the Analog Keys/ Four. They share so much in terms of workflow. Most of what's shown there somehow transfers to the Rytm as well. Analog Keys Sequencer Tutorial - CUCKOO
Excellent! Thanks cuckoomusic!
Wow you must off put some serius time into learning the rtym. Big respect :)
Thanks for this!
Thanks dood ,will do 👍
This is complete tutorial !! thnk you so much ~
Thanks cuckoo!
Thank you so much for that!
what a video! you are a ledge
Blast! Well, let me know if you get a chance to try that out!
Hej Cuckoo, what a cool way to learn a synth like this!!!,
Can you also do a walkthrough on the analog 4?
keep up the good work!! I'm a fan!
Thanks. Yeah I should, shouldn't I :) I made one basic sound tutorial for the Analog Keys. It's basically the same as the Analog r. It's a start. Analog Keys Tutorial - How to make a "peow" sound - CUCKOO
cuckoomusic one question though, i have an analog4 and a Roland tr-8. I playing mostly techno. What would you recommend, the octatrack or analog rytm?
Thanks in advance
Top, Thx for the Video!
This is close to the best walk through, demo, whatever you call it I have ever seen. Do you work for Elektron, if not you should be getting some serious commission, reckon you sold this to me!
Thanks mate! Great to hear. I work with Elektron from time to time, demoing the Analog Keys live on music trade fairs. So we have a relation. But no commissions involved, lol :)
thanks again. The scene mode explanation in the manual is pretty weak. This got me sorted in 45 seconds haha. You're the best man.
+Ian Kennington Hey there Ian. Cool, thanks! The scene is really great! It requires a proper, easy to grasp introduction :)
Very helpful. Thanks
Elektron should give you kickbacks - this video convinced me, along with a great deal on a new Rytm.
+Josh Reineke same. bought the rytm & octatrack cuz of Cuckoo. now i am BROKE! cuz of Cuckoo.
Tout simplement magnifique
Hey man, seriously great tutorials you got, thanks a lot, you're key too understanding quickly how this machine works. One small question, for some reason, my third pad (RS3) won't let me play Chromatically, whilst the rest all do? Weird, I can't seem to figure out why. Cheers in advance!
Hi cuckoo amazing tutorials but i have a question is scene or performance mode anywhere explained in your rytm tutorials?
Thanks
So helpful!!!
Thanks again for this awesome video Cuckoo, it really shed some light on some pretty confusing areas, I'll be sure to make a donation to say thank you for saving me so much time in reading that confusing manual! I have a question, once you want to build a track past a 4:4 length loop, I guess you need to start assigning patterns to 'A', 'B', 'C' etc, and have those patterns play in order. Can it switch between patterns automatically? So you can concentrate more on 'performance' pads and 'scene' pads, rather than remember to manual jump between those patterns in order to create the full song? Thanks again mate, much appreciated :)
I think that is what "chain-mode" is for: going between different patterns. Then you have "song mode" where I think you can go through different chains in whatever order you designate.
Hi Cuckoo THX a lot for that great video!! Do you know, how to rec the retrig/roll on a track? all the best mirco
what can i say after this amazing tutorial? thanks a lot siiiiiir!!!!!!!
Hey cuckoo, you have helped me a lot with these tutorials. I'm absolutely grateful!!!
I have a question, i have a kick which is in the BD 1 pad. When I start the song or when i mute this specific pad and unmute it again, the kick starts sounding with low volume, like some sort of fade in. and then after a few seconds it catches its volume. It's worth highlighting that i have not done any specific editing to the channel.
as always a pleasure this video! Thank you for your work ! The problem with the song key I have often on The A4 :- ) a question , I can see the notes that you play on the Chromatic function select it through each step on the step sequencer like the analog Four ? Greeting Tobi
Great, amazing video!!! I've waiting to get my rytm now but something that I never seem to see in any videos is someone that explains the Elektron way of saving patterns/songs. Do you think you might be able to give that a go? I have an A4 and Octatrack. Is the Rytm pattern/song saving similar to either of these?
Thanks a bunchP.S. How is the animation project going? Any thoughts on putting some of the stills up on your patron for sale?
+Donald Lykins hi, thanks!! The pattern and song is more or less the same as on the A4. Song mode on Octatrack is even more detailed, and the Octatrack has got more pattern banks (16x16) I'll see about selling pictures. I'll make a little exhibition first, and put stuff for sale there. Perhaps this fall.
legend!
