Glad I found this , I’ve been looking at getting another elektron box of tricks and this has made me realise there’s still plenty to explore with the rytm.
t’s nice to have a channel doing such a good content. I’m trying to figure out what is better for me. An Analog Rytm mkt 2 or the digitakt + the syntak. I need one or the other to create my own drum samples in the studio.. I work a lot with sound design and in the DAW I usually use synth and sample layers to make my own drum sounds. When I say digitakt + syntak it’s because I’m thinking about syncing the MIDI of the two devices and layering the synth (of syntak) with samples (of the digitakt). Example: in digitakt a clap sample and in the syntak a synth model clap. I’m trying to figure out which choice has more sound design power. In the Analog Rytm mkt 2 I can resample… but in the digitakt + syntak it looks like there is a bigger range of sounds for me to tweak and experiment with. What would be your suggestion? Thank you!
thanks to you I have the following Mantra with the rytm "New pattern, new kit" I think this has helped me avoid the issues other people describe... has been most helpful..
Great to hear that, mate! It can really be puzzling before you get to understand it. And even when you understand it, it's easy to forget and make a mistake. So a mantra like that is great :)
@@truecuckoo I have been on my own journey and coming back to your videos has given me the details that and helped me to reflect on what I have learned.. for example understanding the slight nuance between recording samples, where they sit inside, I have also started the process of creating "sounds" from each of my samples as I would like to be able to use them in different kits.. I truly love this piece of kit.. I am so enthusiastic it.. It was cool to see how you did a multi chord sample and then were still able to come back in and out.. so your buffer is maintained .. I think with practice use of the sampler can be used as a part of a live performance.. I am hoping to "get into" this at some stage.. I am letting time show me the depths of this machine and your videos really help to reinforce my learning thanks again.. RRRRRIIITM user appreciation society!!
That threshold sample record takes me back to the MV 8800 drum machine's sampling methods. Also, cropping based on peaks in the sample was available as well as crop by beat.
Oh man, that example resampling the individual tracks is an eye opener. I assumed it would record the sample with FX baked in, but I guess it makes sense it doesn't, like when you use overbridge out, the tracks never have the FX on them, because like you said, it's on the main outs only. Makes sense, but potentially a real gotcha if you aren't paying attention. Great that you pointed that out. So if you want the FX intact when resampling, you'd have to just sample the main outs, and make sure they other tracks are muted, if playing a sequence. But even then, the FX will sound different as any panning or width will be summed up into mono. So what is the solution to resample, with FX, and with the stereo space? I guess that would be to record stereo out into a DAW (or Octatrack), edit the sample in stereo and then transfer it back into the Rytm. A shame they can't make that a little more streamlined. Okay, back to watching your vid now! haha. Great, as always!
Thanks! Yeah it’s a machine full of possibilities. But it’s designed to play back mono samples. If a stereo sample is loaded into the Rytm, it will be converted into mono. However samples can be panned. And the reverb is adding a stereo feel to things.
Waiting for mine to come tomorrow, thank you so much for this brilliant video! Most of my work evolves around polymetric patterns. Worked it out on the OTMKII, great to see you sharing this idea with others!!
A not on the amplitude env. Most likely what the level differences you see are the noise floors of all the analogue signal paths summing together, making it audible. Might be some useful applications of that in a mix now that i think of it. Great vid! keep up the amazingly in depth content
Great video! I know that one more comment won't make any difference but could you please make that MEGA Elektron Analog Rytm Mk2 tutorial? We are starving 🙏🏻
wish this had the USB audio interface of the TR8S; being able to dump all tracks into a DAW is really appealing.. missing the SD card slot too.. on the other hand the on-board sampling and sequencing functions seem more sophisticated here.
i like these videos and i think cuckoo is providing a great service by creating and sharing these, but something about the voice + whispered cadence + pacing that gives me a massive headache every time i try to watch them. probably has something to do with the sounds he chooses as well
I see that external input being very useful when jamming with other gear and having it be squashed by the drum sounds triggering the compressor of the rytm
Thanks a lot! Enjoying every video by you! Is there any possibility to change things globally for all tracks in one performance? It is a bit exhausting to dial in every single lock for 12 tracks if you like to filter all at once for instance.. like pressing TRK while parameter locking would be great!
A great Tut. Thanks. i plan to buy this great machine. But one question i cant find a awnser so i hope you can be so kind to help. Does the FX maby on a Instrument also be routed thru the seperate outs ? Maby if you have some FX on the CLP, does it also goes Thru the CLP Seperate output. On my very old Machine drum it was not , so for me this is a very important function to have it also on the seperate outs and not just on the Main. Thanks and stay health !!!!
Hey Cuckoo, if you have a polymetric pattern, let's say A1 and a regular one A2. How do you switch between A1 and A2? Do you need to set the common multiplier of the polymetric parts as the clock length? For instance, a 4 step track and a 3 step track will come together every 12 repeats. Hope this makes sense.
Hello coco ! , just got this perfect drum machine couple weeks ago, and a have a question for you , what’s a better way to record it , I mean external audio recorder like tascam or zoom , main point standalone workstations
Hi Cuckoo. I had a beat all perfected with guitar samples etc that took hours on the MK2. Just for fun I decided to play with the scale. Function + Scale and try it out in all the other besides 64/64 x1... It wasn't in step record mode or anything, but this ended up ruining the beat. Any idea why that happened? I finally brought the scale back to its original state "64/64 x1" and the beat just wasn't the same at all and it would not play through all 4 bars like it initially did when created, it only played the sounds in the first bar x4...
Hi there. Is it possible to synchronize loop samples (not one shot samples) to the beat of the pattern (or song) using the start and end points with the loop mode on? You know what I mean? Thanks for your videos.
@cuckoomusic can you tell me if you can import samples into the Analog Rytm mk2 with the overbridge software or is sampling through the audio-input the only way to import outside material into the Analog Rytm mk2?
Thanks mate! This is the first time I’m using the Fujifilm X-E3 for my UA-cam channel. I love the Fujifilm colours straight of the Camera. It’s not suitable for video though, since it only records 10 minutes (4k) at a time. I’m usually using the much more powerful GH5 for my channel. It records for hours and have more professional video settings. But the colours are always in need for correction. This video has untouched colours. Straight out of the camera ❤️
I usually record the audio (multi track) to a Zoom H6. And then sync it afterwards. Sometimes the audio is drifting a tad over time. Then I have to somewhat stretch the audio into place, which is a relatively simple affair.
Are there any other cheaper boxes with this kind of polyrhythmic functionality??? This is exactly what i was looking for, independent timing per sound with no forced restart on the master (infinite repeat) but i dont have 1.4k to spend on a drum machine lol
right on I love your whimsical videos so cool. Here is my first jam that I created on my new Elektron Analog 4 MKII ua-cam.com/video/93m63H377Rg/v-deo.html hope you like it. I've read that if you set one tracks tempo multiplier to x3/4 every step should play a straight 8th triplet, but I can't confirm it yet and don't know about other divisions. Hopefully the Octa MKII will arrive tomorrow as my first Elektron - probably never been so excited for a device. :) Thanks for all your helpful Videos, Cuckoo! I feel through watching your videos I'll aready have a quite good grasp of its features, when starting out. Besides, of course, from actually realizing the Octatracks full potential not until I've found your channel, hehe
You can do polyrythms on the octatrack, when you set the "scale mode" in "pattern settings" to "per track". Then you can assign one track's "scale" to "3/4x" or "3/2x", while keeping the master at "1x" to create polyrythms.
The Rytm has really great analog engines that you can use to create music. So out of the box, not preloaded with anything special, you can certainly create great music. But the Octatrack MKII comes with a brand new (awesome) sample library produced by selected professional partners. So the Octatrack is really great out of the box now.
I bought an Octrack MK2 and Analog 4 MK2 and love the Octatrack the best. Nothing beats sampling your voice or Jedi Master Yoda and twisting it a billion ways and making bass and drum beats out of your own voice. I did this recently and it was sooo much fun! Learning curve is steep but payoff great for live one box that does it all. Rytm has bugs/hardware freeze issues and higher price tag.
This is ridiculous. If they return it who do you think get the product? Then there is no meaning for pre-order shit. Getting early products for reviewer should be banned. Best tutorial videos on music on UA-cam. The way you explain and edit the zooms in is wonderful - thanks so much.
Thank you so much! I feel that in this particular video I was not at my best. But I'm happy to hear that people still find it useful! ❤️
Nah, you've got it down to a fine art - this one could have been twice as long and I'd probably still have been really interested. Cheers!

Thank you Carsten!

Best part was that I (re-)learned that you could copy paste sample names!
Length on these is good for people who really want to learn. Thank you for making them long. No complaints here.
Your tutorials are the best! It´s impossible not to become a patreon. Keep up the great work man!

MEGA 4 MKII PLEASE!!!
Come on do it!
It an op 1 for my Scotland trip. Great synth especially like the breaks that can be made with a drum kit and the arpeggiator it’s so cool!!!!

My Roland TR8 is powered off here sat next to me so it can't see me watching this Video.
I think my TR8 knows a Rytm is entering my setup soon, its been sleeping for a while.
I love the sound of the clicking keys, maybe sample those and compose a chill track.
Nice idea :) I really like the sound too. Has a nice Ring to it.
hello , nie to see you ... I found this very good explaining and interesting go in depth..Gott nytt år!

@10:45 you can turn off the synth sound in the trig menu.
In your opinion, aside from form factor, would you say the Rytm MkII replaces the Digitakt? Excluding the control all trick on the Digitakt

can I parameter lock and record automation for sample start and end ?
how do you position your camera while recording? do you use a certain tripod?

You can import any sample file over USB. There’s a simple to use app called “Transfer” for that.
Sweeeeet!!!!! Thank you for your swift reponse, you've just convinced me to buy both the Octatrack and the Analog Rytm next month.

I love yah man!
Is there a way to delete al factory samples?
Are there any other cheaper boxes with this kind of polyrhythmic functionality??? This is exactly what i was looking for, independent timing per sound with no forced restart on the master (infinite repeat) but i dont have 1.4k to spend on a drum machine lol
Yes the Sonic Potions LXR can do it for 380
You need to do one for the new Analog 4. Very little is out there right now on how to use it.
Ok. Will do.
right on I love your whimsical videos so cool. Here is my first jam that I created on my new Elektron Analog 4 MKII ua-cam.com/video/93m63H377Rg/v-deo.html hope you like it. Thank You.
Legend
If i sample on 'main' it records reverb/delay but is there any way of resampling with the LFO effect on? So say i want pan left/right...Can i get that to record on the sample?
All the samples are in mono. The only Elektron machine as of today that samples in stereo is the Octatrack.
Ah ok cool. Great vid thanks for the help
❤ really great!
Than you. :)

Sorry, but it seems you're dealing with polymeter, not polyrhythm.
Having different pattern lengths on different tracks = polymeter.
Having triplets parallel to non-triplets (etcetera) = polyrhythm.
Here's a good description with notation and all:
music.stackexchange.com/questions/10488/polymeter-vs-polyrhythm
Arturia has it misprinted on their Drumbrute frontpanel button - don't let it spread. ;-)
Ok ok ok, gotcha. So for polyrhythmic on the Elektrons, the only way is to sequence carefully with micro timing? Polymeter it is then.
I'll pick up polyrhythmic again later. Being a listener of both folk, and contemporary jazz, I'm no stranger to true polyrhythmic.
Great! It deserves to be exposed more. Both terms also deserve to be spread more, possibly straightening out which is which, and enabling more musicians to use and understand them in both theory and practice. These off-the-binary-grid structures are important and lovely! :-)
I've read that if you set one tracks tempo multiplier to x3/4 every step should play a straight 8th triplet, but I can't confirm it yet and don't know about other divisions. Hopefully the Octa MKII will arrive tomorrow as my first Elektron - probably never been so excited for a device. :)

You can do polyrythms on the octatrack, when you set the "scale mode" in "pattern settings" to "per track". Then you can assign one track's "scale" to "3/4x" or "3/2x", while keeping the master at "1x" to create polyrythms.
Elektron should drop the actual Octatrack and have this layout instead.
Sascha Haber exactly, I don’t get why octatrack couldn’t have this layout at all. Pads make total sense on a sampling machine like that
Great video! Thanks! Oh yeah, my wife said, "that guy needs to come his hair! Don't feel bad, she constantly says that to me also. Wives! LOL :)
Right out of the box, which machine has more potential, the octotrack or the analog rythm?
Joan Torruella Analog Rytm and Octatrack are different. But I have more fun with Analog Rytm
The Rytm has really great analog engines that you can use to create music. So out of the box, not preloaded with anything special, you can certainly create great music. But the Octatrack MKII comes with a brand new (awesome) sample library produced by selected professional partners. So the Octatrack is really great out of the box now.
I prefer the microgranny above all. 🏋🏻🌭
cuckoomusic thanks! I think I will go for the octotrack.
I bought an Octrack MK2 and Analog 4 MK2 and love the Octatrack the best. Nothing beats sampling your voice or Jedi Master Yoda and twisting it a billion ways and making bass and drum beats out of your own voice. I did this recently and it was sooo much fun! Jeremy Are you being ironic? I don’t get it.
binging cuckoo
be nice if the digitakt had fine tune
Yeah Fine tune + chromatic tuning would be helpful. Now there’s only fine tune. It’s a bit hard to tune stuff.
👀Watching to see if this is worth the $1600 they say it is..
cuckoo saying rytm asmr (2:04:08)

I own a digitakt. Should I get this or the octatrak?
Just woke up ? :D
