Google Pixel 8a, No Longer A Budget Hero? | What To Expect | TSW191

- Google's Pixel 8a is speculated to launch in May 2024, but the asking price isn't as budget as hoped if those leaks aren't total cowchud. Still, you can expect a slick Google smartphone experience from the Pixel 8a - and here's the news ahead of my unboxing and review!
So far there's not much chat about the camera tech, but you can expect the usual satisfying point and shoot ease of use. The Google Pixel 8a will also sport the same AI smarts as the 8 and 8 Pro, thanks to the Tensor G3 chipset. So while gaming won't be the smoothest around, you can expect all of that translation, transcription and search based shenanigans.
The Google Pixel 8a will also offer similar specs to the 7a, from the 6.1-inch OLED screen to the plastic finish. Leaks have revealed that it will cost considerably more however, that price now hiked to around £500 or $500. That's disappointing if true, despite the excellent software support, as the A series can't exactly be called 'affordable' any more. No worries though, at the very least the Pixel 7a will drop in price as a result.
So are you tempted by the Pixel 8a, launching this May? Let us know in the comments below!

This was much needed after a tiring week
Pixel 4a was their last true budget phone. That phone itself was a steal at the time. I honestly miss mine. Google and Samsung need to quit riding Apple's dick with their horrible business tactics. Enough with the different sized models and removed features. We just need two variants. An actually compact and plus sized phone for a reasonable price.
I still have my Pixel 4a and it's absolutely superb.
I love my Pixel 4a. But the battery is old.
@@christoph4412 same here,. I love my 4a but the phone needs charging 2-3 times a day. Can't go out anywhere without carrying a power bank. Was really hoping the new A series phones would be the right upgrade but the price and battery performance reviews have been underwhelming so far.
I had my battery replaced for under £40. It's a great phone. 🎉@@christoph4412
Well worth having a new battery replaced. Makes a big difference. 🎉
Thank you for the great video as always.
i forgot about you for so long, but I'm back and you haven't changed!!

Uncle Spurt! The Pixel 8a is out, excited to see your review of it!
The pixel 8 pro was available for £549 over the last couple of days from EE in the UK with a £400 Student beans discount code. With the German website's revelation that the 8a would be around €569, I decided to purchase the 8 pro.
I would have much preferred the 8a's smaller size. But with the 8 Pro's cheaper price (with that student code), 12gb ram, superior camera functions and the only 8 series pixel that's capable of running Gemini Nano, it was a no brainer.
So do the others no run nano? Is that the new Ai voice assistant?
@@davetech356 That is what has been revealed. Apparently the only pixel phone capable of running Gemini Nano is the 8 pro because it has 12gb ram.
It doesn't really make sense because there are Samsung phones with less ram that will run Nano.
What the hell, 549 is an absolute steal. Here the P8P drops to €700-800 at max. Even now the regular P8 has only dropped to €650, although local retailers do sell it for €589 (very rare though). A real shame they're so expensive.
Thank you Chris, another tech comedy classic 🎉🎉🎉
Hi Mr Spurt, love your accent, what part of Wales are you from?
What features does the uk miss out on compare to other countries I heard not all features are available for some countries
You literally just described me. I even live in Milton Keynes
Need more gaming content from you love those videos!!!
can you do a news roundup bout the new (upcoming) xperias phones? 😊 (please)
If it's as good as my 7a it will be a good one. I've had mine for almost a year and it's great. Should be considered by people that can't justify what they are asking for flagship phones (ridiculous.) As long as they don't go crazy with the price. Notice the 7a didn't have many significant price discounts where the 7 and 7 Pro had many sales going on just a few months after their release. Tells me the 7a was selling very well. This should mean something.

Looking forward to your review on the Pixel 8A. Swaying between the 7A. 8 and 8A. I find it difficult to move on from the Pixel 4A. Great little pocket size piece of kit. Thanks Uncle Spurt. ❤
Pixel 8 available currently for £365; I was waiting for 8a but decided to snap up this deal instead
Will u ever switch to uploading in a 2:1 aspect ratio like mkbhd and other tech UA-camrs do?
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You should truly do a collab with Mr. Whosetheboss. It would be hilarious to see what comes out of it.
Footage missing 😢.
Still waiting for the Google phones with Pixel 4a's design, form & factor.
What phone to buy on a mid range
People forget Google sells these phones with either the pixel watch or pixel buds as a bundle deal which if you consider it is around 200 dollars off the msrp
which phone u r using in this video..??
A part of me is imagining Chris as the next Doctor in Doctor Who just landing the Tardis upside down and saving the universe by getting the Daleks and the Cybermen pissed.
Either that or messing up the timeline by going back to the days when booze was cheaper and drinking the planet dry.
bought it today, $400 with trade in. I'm happy
Hi please Tell us something about it honor x8b❤

which one is better Xiaomi 14 or samsung s24?

Always wait a few months after release to buy a Pixel. The price drops for Pixels can be significant..
@@rangerkayla8824Good deal. I got the pro from Google for $749. Never pay full price for a Pixel.
Onodera Kosaki wallpaper❤
I did originally come here to get a tech review, but that quickly paled into insignificance once Uncle Spurt got into his 15min comedy stand up routine.
Whitley bay! I knew you were from around my way. Not too far from Sunderland 😊
Only stopping me getting a pixel phone is the chip. Everything else is great, camera, software, design,
The chip is not bad at all pixels are great i have the p6 p7 and p8
@@LOUISVILLECARDINALSIt is bad. The latest Tensor core couldn't even beat the high end mid-range chips like the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 or Dimensity 8300U.
I don't even want to compare it to the highest Snapdragon or Dimensity chipset! It'll be super embarrassing 😂
@@blues05 Performance isn't really an issue these days, everything is more than what we need for a phone. Tensor is just really very inefficient, and that's Samsung's fault.
@@albertxion513 1). Performance is an issue if you try to play 3D games at 60 fps.
2). Performance is an issue if you try to emulate 6th generation onwards consoles.
3). Performance is an issue if you compare it to the contemporaries SoC in everyday usage.
4). Performance is an issue if your flagship device SoC is inferior to your competition's upper mid-range SoC.
@albertxion513 performance is 100% an issue. The pixel 8 and pixel fold are both already being locked out of new features already due to hardware limitations. Google said this themselves so theres no denying that.
I've got the 8pro and not going to lie it's a brilliant phone
Figure might get a second opinion here, recently updated my pixel 7a to the recent March update and I swear either I'm tripping or the display colors feel muted out of nowhere in comparison to before the update. And this feels weird happening to me right before the new phone comes out even though I plan on waiting for a better pixel phone
As a Pixel4 user I still question why to upgrade. Sure software updates but these phones can last a long time and should have longer support instead of creating ewaste.
thanks Mr. Spurt
Well, Chitoge and Onodera caught me off guard man.
The One uncle thats missing from my life fr. ppl around you are lucky they got you in their lives :)

yes okay no problem for the price, just put the snapdragon gen 3 inside, thanks
what about the finger print pad. where did that go? sorry my current phone is a google pixel 3a XL. its lasted like 4 YEARS. Non problems that's why I am getting another.
My ring hurts🤯
OnePlus 12R will shit on it from an even greater height if the price leaks are true.
In the US, I can see the 8a going on sale for $400 or $450
Waiting for the Xiaomi 14 Ultra Review now XD
"Footage Not Found"
I bought Pixel 8 for 600 euro just 2 weeks ago, in a regular chain store with electronics.
It's not a problem to get it for this price even in my country, where Google does not sell it officially.
If the Pixel 8a starting price is going to be 570 euro, good luck in selling any of it, Google.
it's pale mint green, baby blue or light sky blue and very light pink. porcelain is a pale pinkish flesh tone. I ordered the pale mint green.
a55 review?
I love curved screen phones. I use realme 12 pro because I am realme.
I was really hopeful for pixels after the 7 series launched. The price hike on the 8 series didn't really seem justified. I was also really put off by the artificial gating of software features behind the pro model. Like why do I need the pro to have a cloud server process my videos? The 8 pro isn't natively processing boosted videos, so why is a pro only thing? They really lost me by announcing that the Gemini Nano model wont be coming to the base 8, despite it sharing the same chip as the 8 Pro. I've seen apologists trying to claim it's because the base model has less RAM, but the s24 is getting it with only 8GB of RAM. Sure, the SD8 G3 is more powerful than Tensor 3, but then why is Google using an inferior chip in their flagships? The whole reason they use Tensor is because it's customized for AI and ML.
Increased price on flagships and midrange follows.
My pixel 6 pro had a buggy connection and a charging port that crapped out after 4-5 months... I couldn't wait to have the s24 in my hands.
That porcelain color looks a lot like Pixel's 3 pink colour
Pixel 8A specs should be
6.1 inch 90hz oled
Glass back
Gorilla glass victus
Tensor G3(Downgraded version)
64+13mp
Ip 67
4500 mah battery, 27w charging
4 year os update
Remove wireless charging
Price= $ 499
I personally don't like glass backs and wireless charging is a must now
@@jamiesplinter8758 Lol wireless charging is the most useless feature in a smartphone it takes 2-3x times than wired charging+ wireless charger is also very expensive and you cannot use your phone while charging.
It feels illegal to be this early 😅
i saw Pixel 8a price increase. So i ran as fast as I could and grabbed Pixel 7a @ $375 USD. happy with my now sub-dollar price phone that does 95% of the $1K Plus phones!

My 4a 5g didn't last 3 years before dying. No more over hyped pixels for me.
How did it die?
@@naijalog2127 LCD and charger port. No water damage, overcharging etc etc. Over £100 to fix it. Bye bye pixel.
I wish there was a translate from Tech spurt to English, for people who have not lived in England since the 14th century.
Got the 7a for £329 last summer. It's been a good, but not great experience. Great camera but mediocre performance and battery life. I also run into bugs with the keyboard not minimising, meaning I have to close apps. Google maps also sometimes semi-freezes - the 'X' to complete the journey doesn't always work. Overall, I wish I spent more to get the 7 or 8.
That's the Pixel experience. Every phone is like that.
@@thelawyer95mine aren't, I have a 4a 7a & a 7. The 4a is still going strong

Pixel 8a looks good if these leaks are true. At least your cat is more useful than the Black Cats!
Been watching this shower of shit for far too long now but I've come to the conclusion that I still bloody love it 😂
Hey nice phone, Xiaomi 14 Ultra 😉
Whilst the camera tech might not be there I think that the midrange will be full of pixel lite alternatives. Nothing 2a, Moto, Oneplus. The specs just don't justify the price.
When is google io?

Just purchased the pixel 8 for £397. From loxi seems like a bargain
Nice video
I had a Google pixel 7 pro on contract, returned it back the following week and cancelled the contract. WHY? The dumb phone froze on me for two hours before it suddenly came back to life. That's from a new phone.. could have been a one off but if anybody else had same issues, I'm sure uncle Spurt would love to know about it!!
Did ya download apps and did setups? When setting up a new phone it lags a lot the 1st week or so and may even freeze. It becomes better the next following days. Sometimes it doesn't even lag, it definitely depends on the model. Maybe you did get a one off.
@@justsomedogwithamoustache.9324I'm sorry, but i'm not gonna lie to you. That's insane you expect someone to be use to a laggy phone that could freeze for two hours, just to finally get some manageable performance. There are other companies out there that offer smooth performance out of the box. Samsung, Nothing, One Plus, Iphone, etc. Pixel is suffering from their mistakes right now, because they blundered everything at the height of their success. Their quality control is not good and its time to expect better.
