- Comparing Samsung's Galaxy A55 5G vs Xiaomi's Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G, to see which mid-range smartphone is best for you in 2024. I've used them both as my full-time phone so here's how the camera tech, gaming smarts, battery life and other bits measure up. And check out my Samsung Galaxy A55 5G and Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G reviews for a more in-depth examination!
You can also see my favourite mid-range mobiles of 2024 rounded up here on Tech Spurt, if you're after alternative options.
If the camera is your priority, I prefer the Samsung A55 - although the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus does pump out warmer, more inviting looking pics in good lighting. Still, the Galaxy copes better in low light, while the Xiaomi phone often struggles to even focus.
Gaming fans will want to try the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus 5G. Not only did I find this smartphone heated up less with Genshin Impact, but the frame rate was more stable and the HyperOS game mode is better than Samsung's basic effort. The Galaxy A55 5G offers similar battery life vs the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus, but Xiaomi's phone is superior when it comes to recharging.
Let us know which mid range smartphone you think is best in the comments below!

remember when $600 was flagship?
Gotta hate the greedy dogs for making things expensive
@@guenmungunkhuyag5957 You act like the current flagship phones aren't as fast as some computers, and have close to DSLR level photo quality.
@Nick-nf1kd My laptop is around the same price as a flagship, but its performance is much more powerful than a flagship, but the dslr cameta statement is true, but the reason why I wrote this comment is because, companies are purposefully making things expensive just to make profits and governments are printing money a lot, because of this, currencies have become less valuable and because of that, phones have become very expensive
@@mussepua Try putting that pc in your pocket. :)
Also i have a midrange Galaxy A72 from 2021...
Greedy ass companies keeps on increasing the prices of their phones
id go with A55 for sure, great phone
Had the Redmi 13 PP for 6 weeks now and love it. It reminds me of my old Redmi Note 10 pro which I used for 3 years and was an awesome blower for the price, same for the 13 PP.
I am now using redminote 10pro. It still good all rounder.
i've also had the note 10 pro and even today for an almost 4 years old 200$ phone it's holding up good. only when it gets under 5% battery it's very laggy
I used 10 pro for 3 years, changed battery and gave it to my dad who's been using it for 6-7 months and I have moved to Note 12 Pro, which is equally good. I do have a Samsung phone too and will buy A55. I use both phones so, one of them has to be a Samsung phone as I'm so used to it. I notice OnePlus is very good too
I want to get the 13 PP
Should I go for it?
Been planning to get the pro model for a while, although it will feel a little weird cause assuming I do it then it'll be my first xiaomi phone ever and not having Samsung services will feel weird
But its definitely in my top 3 new phones to buy
That was very helpful!!! Thank you 🙏
where do you get your backgrounds love them
I just got my Redmi Note 13 Pro+ Fan Festival in Mystic Silver but it has a shinny back which gets tons of fingerprints - not recommended, but already installed the protector. The phone is heavier than my prior Realme GT2 and not as smooth. I'm hoping for better performance when the Hyper OS arrives in Europe. The battery is not that great either, but the charger is a huge plus.
Considering that I've been weighing up which of either of the phones I should get, this is a well-timed video that could just sway my decision one way or the other.
Remember redmi workds upto android 16 and A55 goes upto android 18 on OS updates
Great review as always. Whish you had compare them with OnePlus 12R
I took your advice and got a huawei watch gt 3 pro and I'm getting 7 weeks battery life. Not keeping it turned on 24/7 but I did have a huawei watch gt 4 and got a whole month battery life.
This may be contradictory, but I love deleting the "garbage" apps, it feels like I'm personalizing the phone to my needs, and that feels good
@@andyw8558stupidity too
@@andyw8558I thought it was common practice to delete pre installed apps no? I bet when they hear that there's alot of bloatware on their phones they're gonna have a mental breakdown😂
Really love your reviews and anime wallpapers❤❤❤
Please tell where do you get those amazing wallpapers?
The A55 sells for around $600- Cdn here, that's like venturing into flagship price territory,. For that amount I can get an open box S23 or a new S23 FE and many other phones with an actual optical zoom lens like the Xiaomi 13T. I held that phone in in a store and it's a thick hefty & pricey shovel, No thanks.
yeah at the end of the day you'll need to compare whatever is available for the same price range to consider.
In country where I am, in Asia...it's 360$ in official store...no idea where you are, but it's so expensive!
Crazy! It’s 300 dollars new here in Brazil. And you get a charger too
@@Mr.Feanoryou are right bro🙂 i am from sri Lanka Asian country 😅 but i have Samsung galaxy A34 5g 😊❤🎉i am buy this year😂 last year phone 😅 it's not expensive😏💜😹🤫🎉🧠
No way 600$!!!, idk what country is that, but with that price u definitely can get a flagship phone
What is your opinion about the software in tecno phones?
Could we please have a review of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 non 5G non pro poverty edition? I know it's arguably the same as last year but us consumers who want LED screens as cheap as possible are still here too

There's a crucial factor you missed on with the displays, The Redmi has narrower and taller 20:9 screen compared to the Wider 19:5:9 of the A55. You can even notice it on the video when the 2 phones placed side by side. The A55's wide screen wins it for me. Chinese phones seriously need to let go and move on from 20:9 already it's so skinny that samsung joined Apple and made all A and S series 19:5:9.

How about the camera is it good?
Not good. 200 mega pixel is just a marketing tactic @@adox3228
@@adox3228 it's a 8/10

the front camera its poor imo tho
How about overheating in the phone

Good advise regarding screen protector. I have hardly used the wireless charging on my phones. I would not always use the super fast charging. Only for top up. The Redmi is better value, even though I am a Samsung User - S23 Ultra. There some Samsung apps and features that I do use. I am not sure which of these phones I would choose, because I am spoilt by having a flagship phone. Good review.
Would have been nice to includ the NP2a.
Good comparison
Good work
Hi chris i have the Samsung s20 5g model and 4 yrs old now and looking to change now but baffled by the amount on the market now,any solid suggestions plz would be appreciated

Char : Kikuri Hiroi
thank you
Bocchi the rock is such a good anime tbh
Is that on playstore?
this the reason i clicked on the video lol
Xiaomi for the hardware, Samsung for the software.
Thanks for an interesting comparison, I am amused that the Samsung processor has better bench mark scores they are really pushing the envelope . Though generally I prefer the Redmi slightly.
Can you do the Redmi note 13 pro plus vs the Nothing phone 2a? 🥺
The freme on redmi is aluminium tho... Some sources say plastic some aluminium but in hand i felt it get cold but lack of antena lines makes it look like plastic... I think its aluminium and antena lines are painted over/ or xiaomi found a way to make antena lines only be used on back side which would make scence, the phone is huge and lens block your hand from reaching top half of the phone soni dont know
Hi sir, 😊😊😊how to apply theme name
I'm due a change. I'm open to new mid rangers/flagships 2nd hand.
I do really like that I can use a memory card in the A55. Love a 3.5mm headphone jack too. There isnt one on the A55. Currently on a S10+
Note 13 pro plus or 13t or honor 90 what do y'all think?
Uncle spurt, where do you get your wallpapers from? I'm intrigued 😭😭😭
yo should i get the moto edge 40 pro or the xiaomi 13 i can get them for the same price for about 420 euros
A55 for me. Best color reproduction. Best premium feels. Best low-light photo. Best battery life. Best all rounder mid-range phone to date.
I cant believe it, i really thought about which one to get a second ago! Perfect timing tech thx for helping

Can U do the Motorola thinkphone
Do a review for realme gt neo 3 se and redmi turbo 3 it's rumoured that it is the poco f6
Hi sir ,I'm really in confusion which phone to pick among these phones,s23fe,a55,oneplus 12r.
I'm planning for an midrange all-rounder phone under 450$,I'm stucked in choosing one.
Can you help me !
Oneplus is the best of one of those in every aspect except cameras, which s23 might be superior
The S23 FE is generally hated for having a subpar and 2-generation-behind flagship processor; both the Exynos 2200 and SD 8 Gen 1 are not well-received due to their poor battery efficiency and heating issues. A55 is a good choice if you don't need the absolute best performance but still want a premium-looking, well-rounded midrange device that provides you the Samsung experience. If brand or UI isn't your concern and if OnePlus 12R is priced in the same ballpark as A55 where you live, then the 12R is a no-brainer. It's got the SD 8 Gen 2 and it shouldn't even be classified as midrange!
Why you are not uploading or responding on comments regarding to moto edge 50 ultra video??
@UCv07DkJazTHXbTbq8BJmsjA For what?
Do samsung still make the oled displays for xiaomi.? Or are they using a different display?!
No, they're using the display from TCL CSOT
Have you ever done any give aways? Cos if you gonna do it, can I be the first one on the list 😂 most of the phones you review we dont even have them here in NZ.
Please review the redmi turbo 3
Uncle Spurt will you review the MoonDrop phone???
YO that's a great idea. A big audio company making a smartphone which is very interesting. Uncle Spurt you must do this one, it would be fun xD
You can also get a new S23 for 400-450 euro on a good deal or a Xiaomi 13T for around the same price and that one also beats both the A55 and Note 13 Pro Plus.
While on the cheaper end, there are options that are way cheaper, and the slightly weaker chip-set will barely be noticeably, if at all.
My mom has A35 and that is a good mid-range phone. If I needed a new phone, I would buy that or the Nothing Phone 2A
You can swipe on the right side of the A55 for your control panel, no need to double slide from the center of the screen and slide from the left side for just your notifications. Xiaomi's support and updates are as good as high heels are for running a marathon.

No xiaomi anymore for me. After using xiaomi 13T i never want to buy any xiaomi phone anymore. The software is unreliable, no software update even tho there are lot of bugs.
Honestly the same for me. I have an 11 lite 5G NE and this hyperos bs has ruined everything, the phone no longer reads SD cards (yes my sd card still works, I've checked on other devices), everything is significantly slower and it keeps resetting my background to one of the default ones every couple of days

Is the Redmi note 13 pro plus global version or global rom?
Costs £300 equivalent here in Brazil and it comes with a charger. Samsung always included free chargers here.
Sorry it's just that I'm curious, do some UK people use mid range samsung or xiaomi?
Yep, mums, dads and grandparents everywhere
Xaomi.
Where do you get wallpapers??
Honor magic 6pro or Xiaomi 14 ultra?
waiting for ur moto g64 review!
What I would love to see is whether you recommend refurbished phones and how they compare to today's new phones. Like let's say a flag ship from a couple of years ago to today mid-range etc.
Love the content and keep up the good work!👍🏻
In a lot of cases, it's more worth to get the 2 year old flagships over the mid rangers, unless software support is something you really value.
I bought the Redmi 2 days ago, I really would love it except of 2 big showstoppers for me. It has a really weak vibration motor. Before the purchase, I haven't thought I should try vibration first in a store or something, now I know. The bigger problem is a bit specific one, I cannot use Android Auto with this phone in my car. It was working perfectly with my previous phone Xiaomi MI 9T Pro. The Redmi can connect, but the head unit's screen is freezing, refreshing in every minute or so, however I can hear Waze instructions, I can receive calls. This has something to do with Mediatek chipset and something with my car's head unit. I read a lot of reports from users with Xiaomi Mediatek phones and 3-5 years old cars (different manufacturers, Citroen, Nissan, Suzuki, Opel...). So I decided to take the phone back to dealership, and I will try the A55... Now there is a great discount at one of the online shops in my country, I can buy a 256GB version for 400€. I tried its vibration in a store, it felt stronger to me, maybe it has bigger motor. This comparison is really useful, thanks.
I really hate Hyper/MiUi , so im going with Samsung A55
why do u hate it? i mean yeah it is full of adds but other than that its ok imo

Im stuck for a mont now choosing between those two phones....Someone help!!!
On the Redmi side :
-i already had xiaomi phone and was actually pleased with it for 4 years now.
-120W charger that comes with a phone
-curved display
8/256 unlike samsungs 8/128
On the Samsung side:
- Its been a while since i had samsung phone
- OS definitely better on Samsung also 4 years of OS updates unlike Xioami 4 (actually 3 ,cause phone comes with android 13 , so as soon as you start it and update it to 14 and new hyper os you are left with 3 years of updates for android)
-Design and aluminium frame
Id like to hear your opinions and help me decide :)
Only 3 major OS updates for redmi (only 2 left since it came with Android 13). But with Xiaomi, you never actually know when will you receive those updates. Even the security updates would come so late
I prefer my Poco x6 pro and yes love your content
Which one is good for gaming ??

To me xiaomi midrange phones are always better than Samsung's midrange phones, what annoys most people are the pre installed apps on the xiaomi. There is absolutely nothing there, all you just need to do is to delete them not as if it will take much of your time.
I love xiaomi ❤

I heavily modified my Samsung a52 it out performs the Samsung a54 in speed performance and camera quality and refresh rate i ran alot of adb commands greatly enhancing the phones capabilities without voiding Samsung warranty i also increased the cpu responsiveness ect i did every legal adb command to give the phone the best performance without an increase in battery usage the phone is highly efficient
I even overclocked the refresh rate by 6 hz giving it a smooth 96hz

I absolutely despise the new sharp edge designs I cant use them theyre uncomfortable as hell to hold, I think the only reason why I wont upgrade from a poco x3
Sir ....wallpapers are really nice . Which is used in both phones ...what is the source of these wallpapers in all your videos ?
Samsung a55 . You'll get up to 4 generations of OS upgrades and up to 5 years of security updates to keep.
I will choose tecno camon 30 premier over both
It really is better over the two when looking for a balance of better performance & camera. Shame that Tecno still doesn't make any moves to increase its software support as Samsung and Xiaomi has done.
Tecno in terms of software does pretty good for it's price, but its OS still needs some work and their software support is shit.
I come here to see:
1. Phone review
2. Phone wallpaper
i got both... i think A55 is slightly over all better in everything
