Probably one of the finest endings to any song ever produced in music history
LOL.
i was at this gig at Hammersmith, amazing stuff
Rest in peace Chris you were the glue that kept this band together.
Chris cross on bass guitar❤
Saw Ultravox at the Apollo Manchester in '81 and it was one of the best things I'd ever heard and seen. When they did the drum outro at the end of 'The Voice' I thought the roof was going to cave in, it was that loud! Still have the vinyl album of Rage in Eden. 80's music is still the best to me. I'm 60 now and still play it more than any recent artists. It's what you grow up with I suppose, but musically I find the passion that was put into the music in that era was much greater than it is today.
Heil to you
I totally agree 👍
Saw them Manchester Apollo too 1981 & 1982 (Rage in Eden and Quartet, Monument) then 1993. The drum scene is amazing, takes the breath away ❤
Esattamente! Sono d'accordo!
Still have rage in eden on vinyl, Vienna paid 2.50 for guy in store said it wouldn't play, it still does, little gems
RIP Chris Cross, you were part of an amazing & incredible quartet …..
The ending... can't get enough of it.
Them beating the crap out of those drum pads is the best!
Look at Warren go!!! LOVE his talent.
You know when you tell people you are into Ultravox and they always mention Vienna, well this is THE Ultravox song and the live version is well truly breathtaking. I first saw them on the Set Movements tour at the Apollo in Manchester and they were class.
The ending is mind blowing. You don’t get stuff like this anymore.
Yep...thank goodness...it's cringeworthy, worthy of the 80s scene :)
I like Ultravox, but "mind blowing"...?
Jesus. How bloody good were Ultravox?
more than enough.
absolute amazing band
Too bloody good
You should ask " How good were their songs and music compositions ?"
In stron low tones
Saw them 3 times back in the early 80s , brilliant every time , this song is brilliant live as is visions in blue and my favourite New European , RIP Chris.
Chris Cross... what a bass line... rip...😓
I'm a 22 year old drummer and love just going full speed ahead with the solo. So fun, great song and great group of musicians
Nice 🤘💯
U571 that 3 way drum seaway is just brilliant on my surround sound. ....and I had this on vhs.....I'm the doctor...😀😂😁😃😢😷😲 be safe
22 year old bassist here who loves doing the same hahah
You should look into the drum machine Warren Cann built. Enormous & before its time 😊
I was at this concert. Still one of the greatest gigs I've ever been to. The noise at the end of this almost blew the roof off!
So was I. Stunning concert. I was 15. Blew me away. Off to see Midge live in Wellington (NZ) in March
I wish I was. They are/were an amazing band.
1505herzog Lucky you!!!I saw U-VOX in Italy in 1986,x U-VOX Tour,but i would have gladly changed places wt u!!!!💯👍🔝😉🎤
I envy You!!!😉👍
Me too in Birmingham
The shape and the power of the bass!!
Calichenao...WHY was this never top comment, highlighted, with a little heart on the side?! 🤣🤣🤣...
Amazing and spot on! 😎
Funny you mention it... When the band played this song at Newcastle City Hall during the Monument tour from which this video was later taken, I watched in surprise as Mr Cross threw his bass guitar from stage left to right just before taking up drumsticks for the Simmons drum coda. Perhaps he expected a roadie to risk injury by catching it but it just landed and no doubt suffered grievous damage. When I met the band backstage afterwards, Mr Cross seemed unbothered by what I, a poor amateur muso, regarded as an excess of high-rolling luxury.
U571....VHS...had early daughters....the drumming had them copy for treats .....over a week they were there....played out couldn't separate them but my eldest heard this and remembered. ....that's when I knew they learned good taste...her neighbours. ..who cares .....ultravox class
@@musicandfilms9956 what a, rock star. Trashing his bass
This is in my top 5 tunes of all time. I listen to this in my truck, full volume, every day. Awesome.
Ultravox... One of the best bands of the 80's :-)
I agree
Agree!!
Absolutely! Brilliant
What ya mean best.....they shaded TALKTALK just ...brilliant..this track head my daughters play each drumming for a while ...then we'd play it back ....the best got a prize as sorts....but they an we...loved watching them learn and enjoy the music....must eldest even played it on her lap.when I played....I'm 67...and I love it still..
Be safè guys 19 hasn't gone away....respect.
Awesome part of my childhood/teenage years. Just started collecting them on cds after years of record and tapes.
This is one of the most powerful tracks I've ever heard live. Amazing. A truly great song.
This concert must have been phenomenal. Incredible musicians sharing their music with us. They sound incredible live. Gave us some breathtaking music. We were spoilt in the 80s, forever trapped in that decade.
Some of the melodic changes are outstanding. Fantastic song and performance.
Love this and the drumming at the end is absolutely WONDERFUL ,goosepimples every time. Never get bored of watching it.
I saw them during this tour in Chicago I believe in 1982 -- powerful.
2020 and still sounds great
I love hearing them. Good band in the eighties. Even now I’m in my sixties. I love them all. Well done boys. Thanks for that decade.
yep 80s were the biz!...we have the memories huh. guess we lucky that the internet/YT etc came along and gave us little flashbacks
I am 54 and saw this at Liverpool empire in early 80s, one of best gigs I been to. I still listen to all 80s synth stuff now
Bought this on vinyl when it first came out and still listen to it to this day, my music tastes have changed since my teens, I listen to a lot of thrash/hardcore/crossover metal, but I always come back to Ultravox when I want a lift. Timeless. Thanks to the guys for the awesome music that has lived with me for nearly 40 years 🤟
Yep. Big fan of theirs in the 1980s...college days and beyond. I keep coming back too. Good stuff. I recorded Reap The Wild Wind in my studio.
Absolutely great, I still listen to Ultravox. It's the perfect combination of electronic pop and rock music. And Midge's voice is brillant. Unique style.
I remember watching them play this back when BBC2 ran a 24 hour music marathon, back before I could afford even to rent a VCR. The Simmons drumming at the end was absolutely the boss. Fast forward to now, and my better-half has only just seen that for the first time. Ultravox were brilliant then, as brilliant now.
Fantastic concert. Extremely hard to find something like that today
Warren Cann is nailing it big time 😬
Trailblazer drummer...mixing electronic and acoustic drums
AWESOME REALLY STUNNING!! LOVE FOREVER ULTRAVOX!!🥰🎶
Billiy Currie on the monophonic synth solo is awesome 😎
Bi-phonic synth, as he himself corrected me in the backstage after one of their concerts...
I m gonna buy one
ua-cam.com/video/Btuk4nnXou0/v-deo.html Billy Currie and his bi-phonic synth - enjoy!
Midge Ure had a very powerfull voice !!! Amazing music of the 80's !!!
I was there it blew me away , we lifted the roof with the raw , it was so electric .
I seen them at Newcastle City Hall.. You could feel the music.. That bass went straight through me... Awesome
You were so lucky.Never got the chance.
I saw this live at Liverpool empire in early 80s, fantastic
I had complimentary tickets to see them at the Odeon Birmingham in 84. Midge Ure sounded pitch perfect, brilliant performance.
U lucky one
Got this on an old vcr tape haven't heard it for over 25 years ,hairs are standing up all over ,those boys were good, got to be the best ending to a song ever
Absolutely spot on mate.Addictive ending.
1982, I was only person in college to have this album, many lessons learnt listening to this
Yess! Thank you! I was born 67 and I loved music like this and I still do.💕💖💓💗💝
Midge Ure era: best era by far. Epic Ultravox sound!!
The final at the drums ! What a time to be alive !
Just brilliant. ♥
💯
I had the live 'monument' lp during the 80's and I loved this version of the Voice, this is the first time I have seen it in live action, and it was exactly how I pictured it in my minds eye with all member closing out the track on drums. Awesome. Probably one of the most underrated acts of the 80's.
I had the Monument Live VHS...was the first time I saw this version with the awesome drum finish...I've ever forgotten it. I thought Criss Cross was going to smash that drum off its stand at 6:15
This is a powerful song!
What a bloody great band. 😊
The drums, the synths, the voice MERCY !!!!
And the bass!!!
That drum sequence to finish!! First ever gig at Manchester and that has brought it all back to me!!
Same here, first gig but Birmingham, saw Ultravox then Japan...awesome start to live music
Dave Rannard I seen them at Newcastle City Hall, that drum beat went straight through me.. Amazing feeling
Mine was DeMontfort Hall Leicester, the drum finale was quite a bit longer as I recall, amazing stuff
Still gives me Goosebumps when I turn this up loud!
WOW ! they sound utterly superb live 💙
After all these years, I’m an 80s guy always listening on these great 👍 great 👍 80s songs. And Ultravox are one of the great bands.
I saw them on this tour in San Francisco at the Kabuki Theatre in Japan Town. Just fantastic.
Bloody fantastic
amazing band one of the greatest of all times
Ho avuto il piacere di ascoltarli in concerto a Zelarino ( Ve) nel settembre 1984 ... Grandi!!!
What a fantastic version!
I saw two of their four nights at Hammersmith on this tour. Same week Simple Minds twice at the Lyceum, and The Jam at Wembley.
Lucky boy!!
Had the pleasure of seeing this incarnation of Ultravox at the Cedar club in Brum, early 80’s, they were brilliant
Круть неповторимая!!!!💪💪💪💪
I still have my VHS of this show! This tour was the only time I ever got to see Ultravox live; it was in New York City.
Get outta here!!! was it? where the heck was i!!
I just love watching them...one of the very best bands of the early '80s
I was at one of those concerts back in back in '83.
That simultaneous drumming made an impression then.
It still does.
Cool
Great final contribution in this magnificent song, simply great!!
een plezier om te horen en een plezier om te zien.. wat kan muziek toch mooi zijn
Now I’m even MORE hype to see Midge Ure later this year! Going by myself as very few of my friends have even heard of Ultravox xD (born 1991)
Went last night....awesome to sing along with this and Hymn at the end of the show. Hairs standing up!
Born 1959-agree across the years!!
I'd of gone with you! none of my friends are into ultravox either!!!!
Born in 1984 totally in love with midge. Musical genius, his voice just wow and the instruments he plays, so 🔥🔥🔥 and a smile that could turn a nun. Love ultravox
40 years on, put almost ANYTHING up against that from today and just laugh your ass off and thank your lucky stars you were there and that"s what shaped you, not what these kids have today...
There's one outstanding band I know of beside Porcupine Tree and they are from Sweden called
'EVERGREY' if you like to rock and mellow out they are awesome, other than that most bands and ALL pop artists suck lol!
@Mark Simmons your Ultravox videos are outstanding. I watch this one again & again for the brilliance of Warren Can & the boys jumping in to drum at the end…..
Best moment of my Life in the 80s, seeing Them live in Genoa, Turin,.Florence...
Who's here in 2021!!
i was 14 yrs old when i bought this on vinal. i am 58 yrs old now. i think my friend has it his attack. i left it there with many more in England 20 yrs ago lol
I'm so glad that I lived all this - They were so special - we can see the energy blowing through the air!...
Brilliant! saw them in 1983, King Hall, Belfast...when they finished with the Drums...awesome!
Great Scottish Band 🏴
I was so DAMN lucky to see this tour when the came to the US
Great band, Monument live is incredible. Wish Midge would get the boys together for a tour. Can't believe this doesn't have more views.
thrillos1 they’re on in Liverpool at the Let’s Rock 80s concert with other bands
Very very underated band... Brilliant
Relevant today as ever, musicians with a smile on the face just smashing it, remember borrowing video off a friend this blew me away, what a sound
I was there the night this was recorded, my first ever concert aged 13 and it has stuck with me ever since as probably the best gig I ever saw and I've seen a few since. Seen these guys numerous times and glad they still did the drum ending, even Midge does it on his solo tours. Classic stuff.
Bass , bass...bass... I love it.
So good!! Love this.
🌹
Awesome. Saw live 1982 & 2009 at Manchester Apollo. Still sounds amazing & the drum finale brilliant. Never ceases to capture every emotion possible. Never want it to end so keep seeing again & again ❤❤
I saw them do that live back in 1984. Love Ultravox..

In my son's words, this was dope and is dope.👏🏻👏🏻The drumming holy 'kin hell.

Quel super concert au casino de paris, j'avais acheté la cassette pour ma voiture, j'ecoutais The voice à fond..
Saw them live in GLoucester Circa '84 - when they played this live it was like the future had suddenly arrived
I love ultravox always have went to see them a few times they are a class act so good live
Billy curry is the heart beat of this bauhaus band he keeps it ticking along.
billy currie, probably best synth keyboard player of all time
That was Bloody Brilliant !!! Also great surname there Mark (Simmons), I’m a huge fan of Simmons Drums. I have a Simmons SDS1, SDSV, SDS7 all working and an SDS9 that needs some repair. I’m also a huge fan of Ultravox, especially retro film clips. That closing drum solo on the Simmons was just gold. Thank you for uploading Mark 👍👍👍
Powerfull Ultravox The Voice ist mehr als genial. Top Live Performance. Sensationell
I watched this show live in Copenhagen. Watching it here again is still mesmerizing. Thanks for sharing this, the drums are amazing.
Same live in Madrid. 1984 right?
I was at the Rage in Eden tour concert in the November 1982 which was at the Brighton Centre. Remember these hexagonal electronic drums!! Bought the album with the fold-out poster. Still have it. So lucky to be able to go to the Return to Eden concert at the Brighton Dome all those years later in 2009. This time it was with the man I had met in April 1982 who later became my husband and our grown-up son.
I feel lucky that I managed to watch the this tour/performance when they came to Blackpool in the 80's.
saw it in Liverpool. amazing, early 80s
They did this for their last tour in southend 2012 superb met them after nice bunch of people.. GONE BUT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN
Thanks very much for this - my first ever gig at Hammersmith Odeon. I just missed catching Billie Currie's drumstick at the end of this.
Paul Mason Same here mate, Hammersmith was awesome!
I was at Liverpool empire for this, awesome, also just missed catching the drumsticks thrown into the crowd at the end
I was there too.
Brilliant. Love the drums at the end.
The master of synthe pop ever .....Cheers mate ....
That is the best way to end a song great sound (the sound of the electronic drum is something else)
back when you had to be able to sing and play instruments well to make music and write masterpieces like this
You think there aren't bands today that sing and play instruments well...?
I know there's a lot of manufactured crap these days, but there was then too.
Don't be silly.
This is what you call a fun drum solo.
I love the extended chorus!
Awesome, my 80s. I saw them live in Valencia. I will never forget. Midge Ure and his band
Still Awesome in 2018
