One of my favourite bands of all time, just a bundle of great songs and pure talent. Pioneers in many ways.

Fabulous band I had the great pleasure of seeing live at Massey Hall in Toronto in 1982 for the Quartet Tour and of course they were amazing! RIP Chris!

In 1999 I was lucky enough to have been invited onto the bus with John Foxx for his ten date UK "Subterranean Tour". Particularly at the Glasgow Barrowlands, Manchester Apollo and Shepherds Bush Empire, the atmosphere was more akin to being at a football match. He's loved. At the end of tour party John played some of his songs on a piano in the hotel lobby. A hugely talented and genuinely friendly gentleman. Thankyou for this episode.
    My favourite Ultravox! album is
    "Systems of Romance" 🧡

I used to frequent a nightclub in Wembley back in the eighties. It was called "The Flag" and played only electronic music. It was there that I met Peter Gilbert and Francis Drake, John Foxx's photographer and promoter respectively. It was they who very kindly invited me onto the tour with John Foxx and Louis Gordon. I fell in love with Ultravox! after hearing "Hiroshima Mon Amour" and never really ever looked back. Meeting John and spending some time with him between gigs was the stuff of dreams. Thankyou for your reply 🧡

Very good indeed. Small point - Chris Allen initially changed his name to Chris St John, he became Chris Cross from the Vienna album onwards. Magnificent bass player, very much missed.

Have got all their albums along with Visage, the track Fade to Grey and Night Train are simply superb. Favourite Ultravox tracks are Lament and Visions in Blue, saw Midge Ure at Scarborough outdoor arena

Always admired billy curry's work, seriously underestimated, foxx is a prolific songwriter, his solo work is as good if not better than when he was fronting ultravox.

Believe it was Seymour Stein, head of Sire Records who coined the phrase " New Wave "

At end of 1980 I came from Kiel to Munich and after school took a look about the city and at Ostbahnhof area was a music shop and the windows full with the first album from Ultravox and bought it....Vienna catched me and the band... always wanted to be in Vienna...then November 1981 they was in Munich in the Schwabinger Braeu and I was there, at age of 15. Was wow and still wanted to be in Vienna....then work started and always when I wanted to go to was not able, something happened. Was second time in a concert when Monument came out. 1998 was one my first flight to Egypt and was overflowing Vienna, thought shit, want to be there....2003 to 2006 of work I was in Austria aaaaaaand worked in Vienna, sure I was in the city at the dome having my coffee and remember....now I live in Egypt and sure always listen to the songs from Ultravox. Started now 43 years ago...time is running, but when I hear songs still I am 15 ... hhhhhhh.... Greetings from Alexandria having my Shishah and listen to this music 😃😜😊

What's going on with bass players dropping dead?! The Smiths, Pulp, Ultravox...

    • @batphink2655

I had better not 'elaborate' ..suffice to suggest a possible ermm 'medical intervention' from a few years back resulting in some of my family members permanently injured and two neighbours dropped dead, simply was not tested long enough. shame so many musicians are dying unexpectedly.
