I remember watching this as it was broadcast as boy of 14..went out and purchased Hymn the very next day, then the album....memorable times for music....a long forgotten period of music/fashion.....post punk....New Romanti/Futurists...Ultravox were always the latter...harder edged sound
This is excellent! 1982, I see. We missed out on a lot of Ultravox, here in the States, and this is my first time seeing this. I did have the debut LP, which is great..
@@markscott554 I saw Midge's solo tour in the 90s when he played his own and Ultravox songs on acoustic guitar. Disappointingly weak and anaemic would be the most positive review I offered at the time.
Although the sound mix is mono, this is a far better account of the band's live appearance from the time compared with the 'Monument' video. There are no clips of the videos interrupting the live stage coverage, thankfully. The OGWT stage must have been too small to allow Chris to have his own synths - he shares Billy's setup stage left.
be good to see the BBC release this on DVD, looks like it was filmed in the BBC Theatre at Shepherds Bush (I think now called the Shepherds bush empire).
Their music is just too basic for my taste. If they could write music half as good as Mark Hollis and Tim Freise- Green, maybe I could understand the hype.

Newultravox singer anthonyultra singer some of it in his first time live utube studio show 😊👽😎
Brilliant performance by a brilliant band. Rest in peace Chris x

I know Midge got all the attention but Chris is easily the coolest guy in Ultravox!
Totally agree. RIP Dear Chris. Very much missed and loved your style. Thank you..
Notice the extra two members of the band? One sounds just like Midge, on backing vocals.. the Messengers..
I love Billy's short but sweet arp solo on MFL
Midge's guitar work makes the whole live sound a lot more rocky. It's the Thin Lizzy in him!
If only he'd kept it going.

@@musicandfilms9956 solo on acoustic guitar may not be the right way

My favorite Ultravox song .................... greetings of Perú ...
Producer: "Time's up"
Midge Ure: "I'm in the middle of something"
This is so good, Thanks so much for uploading this, cheers x
This is classic..OGWT with tracks from Quartet!!

Ultravox with midge I think there best period.
Great show! Thanks for uploading this!
I watched this at the time, halcyon days.
recorded a the old BBC shepherds bush theatre.
Long Live Chris (Cross) Allen. Much missed and forever loved. RIP friend.
any chance you guys could tour once more with the messengers these older sons are so much more powerful with those added vocals
Danny Powell lives in the next street to me. Never seen him though 😟
Wow!!!
I wonder, is this what Midge's all-grey Ibanez originally looked like?
And Chris' Ibanez bass, as also seen here . Looks like they were both re-painted later on?
Well possible! Chris' bass seems to be a Yamaha, though ;)
That black guitar is Midge’s Fender.
@@ItIsJustJudy - Yes, that's a Fender Midge is playing in the last third of the gig 🙂
before they painted the guitars grey. be nice if the bbc re-released this on you tube in the original quality.
No, the black guitar Midge is playing is his Fender. The grey guitar is his Ibanez.
On mine for life he's playing the ibanez. He also has the black Stratocaster. Both guitar and bass ibanez were painted grey.
It seems to me that Ultravox's sound is way too big for this studio. This is a studio for jazz.
Just before they painted their guitars grey for the tour.
Pure class ❤️❤️❤️
Sounds as it was played/recorded live?
of course it was :)
Teresa Ma oh those were the day huh? ;)
+Vincent de Guard today lip sync is used even more
Teresa Ma Indeed...sad really, though in part the television companies are to blame as rarely allow(ed) live performances as far as I'm aware?
+Vincent de Guard no idea ;)
