- In this video I show you a few servicing tips to get your Vax Air upright vacuum cleaner working properly again. The video includes cleaning the filters, stripping down the cyclone to clean it, belt & brush roll change and general maintenance tips.

Well, my mum just managed to hoover up the Christmas tree lights into our machine, and this video showed me how to dismantle it and get them out without having a Christmas meltdown. Thank you!
I shouldn’t laugh. 😆😂 My 26 year old son would probably do the same. He thought it’d be a great idea to hoover the hamster cage. Hamster lived but my previous hoover did not. 🫣💕

After buying the Vax airmach revive 90 from charity shop, had it going in shop worked well right I'll have that. Well when we got it home we tried it yes it worked sucked etc but what a terrible smell, yours was the first video I found and I followed you step by step, all to bits, sticky damp caked dust, warm water and washing liquid with a splash of Zoflora, gave the top filter a good wash with it first, anyway all done dried and tried what a difference. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of the Vax Hoover's. 👍👍

I accidently hoovered up a dog poo. I cleaned everything as best as I could but it was still producing a terrible smell. The machine was not old nevertheless I was on the verge of reluctantly buying a new one. Your video saved my machine and me a lot of money. Thank you so much. Just need to rehome the dog....

very well done no problem following my sister-in-law hers was brand new and never cleaned now sorted and now as good as new again. I told her to keep on top of the cleaning of the machine and again thanks would not have had a clue how to do a good clean

Life saver thank you! Emptying the bin was just a nightmare as all the fluff was stuck in the top. Had no idea you could take the top off and wmpty it that way. Iv spent months pulling the fluff out with bare hands until this video. What a crazy way to make this machine, i have to empty it from the top and bottom. I have the vax mach energise and it is so powerful it pulls the carpet up! Really heavy though, its a work out
Thanks! Really well explained. I like to do this every 6 months or so, and I always end up coming back to this video. Pro tip for anyone doing this. Disassemble the cyclone in the bath. Pop the plug in so you don’t lose any screws. Stops the dust getting everywhere, and you can even wash a few parts under the tap while you’re there.
the bath plug, not the mains plug on the Vax.. yes? :D

Heartfelt thanks for this. Tip for others: when you get to brush roller section, watch the whole thing first. Then you won't attempt to glue together the two parts which look like they've broken. They haven't. Happily for me the glue didn't bond!

Thanks so much!!! I nearly bought a new vacuum until I saw this. I just completed cleaning mine and it no longer has a smell. I truly didn't understand because I regularly changed my filters, cleaned and brushed the canister every use, and I vacuumed weekly. I was lost as to where the smell was until I saw all the dust inside the taken apart canister. It was like having a new vacuum! Thank you so much!!

Love watching all your videos but had my vax just over 2 years hadn’t realised it could be so easy to dismantled like this so decided to have a go it wasn’t to dirty has clean after every use but will do this every few months seeing it’s so easy. Thank You for all the videos you do.
Hi thanks so much my Vax Air Stretch Pet was clogged up at the top with no instructions from Vax on how to dismantle omg went ahead with your guidance and disassembled the rest right down to the brush roll the dirt was unbelievable talk about embarrassing I know have a vax that's like new thanks again

It’s OK, it wasn’t my carpet or vacuum cleaner. Anyway, I shampooed the carpet as well as giving the vacuum cleaner a good service in the holiday home I was staying in at the time.

This was really helpful. Mine was in serious need of cleaning, couldn’t manage to work out how to unassemble the suction part of the hoover at the bottom. Thanks to your video I managed it and now I’ve got a clean vacuum. Cheers!
I'm no handyman at all but this video made me feel like I was! I managed to disassemble, wash and put the vacuum back together almost entirely within a few hours. Now I'm just waiting on the filter to dry up to test the cleaner 🤞

I know the video has been up for a while, but thanks for this video! Our own Vax lasted the longest out of all past vacuums and I LOVE that you can buy replaceable parts instead of just getting a whole new vacuum.

Great video! Love VAX machines, they are very service friendly for anyone with a modicom of DIY knowledge just be methodical in your approach keeping all the screws with their respective parts as some screws are different sizes on my Air stretch, the cleaning of the brush bar housing is a bit fiddly with wipes just wish there was a way to remove the perspex housing to wash it but I dont think there is?
I give my Air stretch a deep service every 4 months , I have 3 dogs and I do notice it does start to smell if not serviced like this regulary, a couple of hours work but do make sure you let the filter dry in a warm place (airing cupboard) for 24 hours. The post motor filter can be cleaned very gently with another vacum cleaner on a low suction setting and it does remove a lot of the carbon dust but be careful.

Thanks for this in depth video, I have a damp smell coming from my unit, despite I have regularly cleaned filters etc. I suspect it's built up in the cyclone. This will definitely help me through !!

I already do most of this but you have shown me more that I can do to keep my vax clean and efficient its a really good informative video thanks for making it, my vax air stretch pet max is probably one of the best hoovers I have ever had my last 3 were dysons and they don't come apart for cleaning like the vax does which Is one of the things I like about the vax.
We have this as Hoover air in the US. It’s very similar to this with small adjustments. Especially the brush roll and colors.

I needed to find out how to remove the brush bar on this Vax as it had stopped turning. I normally have to spend ages gingerly cuttting my long hair off the bar, but for some reason it had jammed. Where I thought it could have been a bead off the floor it was actually a jam of my hair wrapped tightly around the very end of the bar (like a cat hair ball) plus a samll piece of grit from outside. After watching this video & pausing in the relevant part, I found the easier way to deal with it. The hardest bit is getting the brush bar to stay in the square setting, when I think its clicked in the square it stops spinning!. (Ive taken the brush bar out again and the end piece does not spin - perhaps its overheated with the bar sticking and trying to spin but not moving? - so it may need a new brush bar!) Otherwise I found this video very helpful and I realised there were parts that I didnt know you could take apart. Ive also followed your guidance on wiping the relevant parts and washing the ones that can be washed. Thank you.
The brush bar motor may have cut out. If it’s not spinning, try pressing the small reset button on the head.
@@ibaisaic Hi, There is no movement at all, I cant see any "reset" button, the end where the square is its solid so Ive had to order a new brush bar. :(

No, I haven’t received any payment from Vax for making this video, but then I expect they would rather people buy a new machine than fix up their old one.
I really appreciate this video. I have the same cleaner, and the roller had stopped working and the cleaner had lost alot of the suction power. I followed your clear and easy instructions, and now my cleaner is like brand new. The roller now works and I have full suction back again. I couldn't believe how filthy the insides of the cyclone were. I wondered why the hole on top of the dust cannister kept blowing when the cleaner was in use, but now I know that it is because inside of the cyclone needs cleaning. Thank you for your brilliant video.

@ibaisaic - Self Tapping screws into plastic. You need to run the thread gently backwards (anticlockwise) until it 'ticks' into the thread or it will often try to cut a new one and strip out the plastic very fast. If you're going to dissemble the Air Vax more than once/for life the threads will last much longer running them gently back in like this. Very useful video, I think our dogs will be getting a U85 stretch very soon xx PD

Great video, easy to follow, but the drive belt is still not moving the brush roller.
Any ideas please.
If the belt is properly located, your problem could be with a faulty brushroll motor. Make sure that the brushroll on/off switch is set to on and the handle is reclined to the operating position.

However, I'd also like to clean the wand and the hose, are you intending adding those to the video at any point?

Hi, my Vax Air Stretch has a childs cube toy stuck in the handle making it difficult for suction when using it as an accessory for the corners etc. I've tried to force it out but it seems stuck. Can the handle be seperated or do I need to call out my cover plan to get a replacement part? Thanks! Look forward to giving my Air Vax Stretch a proper clean following this video
