Holy crap, bass is like a real instrument!
Who knew?
You are taking it too far. Don't give the bassists any ideas.
You sure?
As a bassist, I am shocked.
This guy has more technical ability than 3 or 4 hair metal bands.
Or 30 to 40 grunge bands.
It's nice to note that the drummer found some sticks during the solo but decided to let the bassist have it. Seems like the drummer might be a new bass fan!
bass & drummer friendship foreva ❤
We drummers need to be kind to our bass playing brethren 😉
Love drummers, most underrated band members other than bass. They are always so chill too.
@@drydryb0nesshorts I play bass also, so I try to ensure all bass players and drummers have strong bonds 😁
@@Victinitotodileprototadile is king of water starters
Charles we need an album of all these songs man😭
I'm working on it!!
maybe a europe tour after that too! like bernth, im going to see him live in october IM SO EXCITED
@@CharlesBerthoud Don't change the format! They're nice little tunes to listen to without thinking. No need to turn them into 5min+ epics.
@@CharlesBerthoud🥳
@@CharlesBerthoudHonestly one of my favourite bassists, you don’t sound like anyone
😂😂😂 “my sticks just exploded”. Excellent
I hate when that happens…😂
Honestly out of that, guitar running out of batteries and keyboard struck by lightning, drumsticks exploded is the one that actually happens.
Bro is using tnt sticks for the drums
Charles is obviously a world-class musician but I want to take a moment to point out that in addition the composition and editing in all his videos is always excellent. I'd love to see a video where he walks us through how he designs, shoots and edits one of these!
Same here!
Nah, I want to believe it's magic.
Yeah... but he is poor at casting actors. All look kinda the same
An not forgot about the ideas of what to do , the clothing and the speeches he finds out :)
sound quality and mix is money too. brother is a gem. and if it weren't for youtube we might have missed out on all this
As a drummer, I have had sticks basically explode under heavy playing. I've lost count of the number of times a stick broke and the other half of it recoiled off a drum and just went flying 😂😂😂
At least it was just your stick! RIP Stumpy Joe.
As a keyboardist, i had keyboards basically struck by lightning while playing Ride The Lightning songs
As a bassist, I had basses with notes so low, it sunk under the stage and had to detune an excavator to find it.
I’m a bassist and I was playing with my band and my drummer was having trouble so our music teacher started playing the drums. He plays really loud and ended up snapping the stick. He went in the back and got new ones but it was pretty funny.
I was playing a gig in a real dive, about 25 people there, and the drummer who does bash those skins broke his stick, and it flew up and stuck the guitar player in the neck! He finished his guitar solo with blood running down his chest and a stick hanging out of his neck! He wasn’t very happy about it, but the crowd went wild!
"But anyways..." Love it Charles. Combining music and comedy in less than Bass-ic ways. Keep it up
Man, a solo so powerful that the instruments fixed themself just to play along
This is the power of *bass*
If I'd known that playing bass could sound like this when I was younger I may very well have taken it up. You're a living credit to the instrument!
Don't let it stop you now man. I picked up bass late man. I expect I will never be anywhere near Charle's level, but I enjoy what I do.
i picked it up at 23, go for it & don't look back
I started at 30, 9 months later I'm almost 31 and I'm in a metal band playing shows. It can happen, it's genuinely never too late
I’m 16 when I first wanted to try it, I’m 20 now and planning to buy one while I’m practicing bass on an acoustic guitar xD
Damn this was SICK. Your chord progressions are always so friggin tasteful!
Thanks!!
@@CharlesBerthoud ❤️❤️❤️
Feels a bit gospelish ;-)
It's so true.
I'm glad you're getting the amount of views and recognition you deserve, keep it going!
His views aren't merely enough. Deserves way more than that
what? he deserves all the views every guitarist combined and doubled
who of the soprano_guitar players put this much effort to be this good as Charles? 99.99999999% of them nether ever be near, lazy attention seekers

You really do something unique- I was laughing by the time the drummer’s sticks exploded. Then you pivot straight into the kind of music that relaxes and energizes simultaneously- it was a relaxing sound and vibe, yet you throw all of these virtuosic moments in that keep to the beat so comfortably that it creates energy and joy for the listener. And, wouldn’t you know it, right at the end you throw in a hilarious parody of guitar solos, with the extra touch coming from that organ’s single drone to back it up. Thank you for the wonderful, creative, joy filled content!
Love the videos keep it up love the bass
Thank you!
I love hearing you play the other instruments, Charles. Thanks for being such a bright light on the planet!!! Love from Vermont!
Ahhh I remember when all the instruments completely got destroyed by chance and the bass had to take up the wings. It was fate indeed! Cheers man
I have been a bassist for 20 years and I never thought of a bass as a solo instrument. And then Charles came along and changed everything. 😀
Bass solos _are_ a mistake 99% of the time because they break the performance - stuff has to lay out of the way of the bass's round and mellow sound so as to not drown it, and usually have a hard time going under a bass since the solo won't be that high. As a result, the music usually just stops dead in its tracks.
And on top of that the solo is (like a large chunk of solos on other instruments as well) going to be someone masturbating on the fretboard and farting out notes as fast as they can. May excite some, but almost always leaves me cold.
Charles' piece here works because the solo is not wankery (mostly), but mostly just a tasty groove that plays to the bass' strengths and not to the player's need to show off. The brief note-spamming moments are by far the weakest ones.
That was no bass solo that was a beautiful piece of music! You make the bass sound like a symphony!
2:37 The bass solo was so good that his drum sticks actually reintegrated! 😜
You're a very talented musician! Love that you have proven to the world how great the bass is!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
You're obviously only speaking for yourself here. Much of the world has known how great the bass is for some time before the birth of Charles.
1:21 to 1:26 putting out some strong Just the Two of Us vibes.
I’ll be honest Charles, the videos where you mix your intoxicating humour along with the awesomeness of your bass-playing are the ones I enjoy and laugh during the most! These skits are pure gems, I especially remember the Jazz and Beethoven ones very fondly 🤣👌🙌, keep up the great work mate!
yooooo what up charles the goat. love your stuff man your my inspiration to keep playing🎉🎉
Keep playing!!
I would love to hear an actual song like this, if you'd be willing I love the combo with the guitar and bass at 1:30
I enjoy your music so much. Thanks a lot! The last 2 years I've seen a lot of your clips and I'm impressed. It looks that easy, when you play it, but I'm sure, that it isn't.
The last months I've also seen a lot of @ElEsteparioSiberiano he plays drums with the same "easyness" (does the word exist in english?) as you play your bass. And he also has a big fanbase on UA-cam. Would you make a video with him?
C'mon, Charles. Stop trying to fool the world into thinking that you're some kind of next-level, world-class, ultra-inspiring, mega-talented musician.
We all know that isn't really you playing those drums.
Ugh...me bass player...me no solo....me hold down groove...and watch drummer get chicks. I'm an f'ing neanderthal next to this man
I hate when my guitar runs out of battery. 😂
The drummer face is OP though 😏😲😮
Why do I feel as if I was on hold for 2 minutes? 🤔🤣
Thank you Charles! Love it! 💯🔥
"We appreciate your call, all of our associates are busy assisting other customers. Someone will be with you shortly"
Because you aren't dead yet?
I WISH companies had Charles's music as an option for hold music lol.
First 3 minute video that doesn't have a sponsor
Another classic! Quick question, have you ever had to do a session or a gig where you did have to play very straight and simple while some narcissistic guitar player hogged all the glory ? I mean, we all have had to do gigs to pay the bills sometimes that we wish we didn't have to.
I heard Jamiroquai and Stevie Wonder. I'm going to listen a couple 5 more times. Excellent!
When Charles does a solo on his bass, it's not a real solo. It's in fact a duo of both his hands (that sometimes have their own solo, intertwining with each other). Those next level "solo" should be known as _Soluo._
Charlie boy … officially now my favourite UA-cam artist . Blown away by your talent and always such a pleasure to watch 👍
I really admire your way of playing the bass guitar. I have a request to make, play this part on the double bass.

01:33 to 02:22
If I made a band I would dedicate at least 5 of my songs to the bass and I would just make the guitar make the bass sound better by backing it up a little bit. switching the roles.
Would it be possible for an additional mp3 version with no drums to be available on Patreon for us drummers that would love to play along??
ドラムス「すまんがスティックが爆発してしまってな」
1st Pop/rock bass "solo": John Entwistle in My Generation by the Who.
Slaps so hard!!!
Guitar solo 58😂 Continues to play the same cringy 4 note solo with the cliche bend
I'm absolutely convinced that you're not from this planet!!!!
Thats the reason I love drum and bass solos; they are so rare that when they happen they are so good.
"My sticks just exploded." Well, they could just break, so kinda right?
europe tour when i need to see you live, im gonna see bernth live soon im SO EXCITED
U are nothing less than Amazing. I’ve been playing bass for a long time and I could imagine being able to play like that. Inspirational
i know its not a bass but i LOVE that Schecter KM7 Hybrid!!
𝑾𝒐𝒘 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆 👏👏👏👏
This is really good. Charles you are not just a chop monster. You are deeply musical. I wish you would release a CD.(I still buy CDs) they are coming back LOL
Charles' solos should be graded by how much stank face they cause in a listener
man, you make this look so ez that I am thinking about buying a bass and playing like you xD
What type of bass is the black one you play in this video. I seem to see 8 tuning keys.
This is not just a bass solo, it's an actual well-thought-out composition.
This composition should be named "Just The Bass Of Us"
Neat, at first I thought it was sounding like "Just the Two of Us", but then it really took off.
Чарльз, это круто, фантастика, мой любимый музыкант!
Play guthrie govan wonderfull slippery thing on base please.
Love the groove. Ya can't help but pull that screw face can you! Awesome great job as always
TABS FOR THIS SOLO?????
Petition to turn this into an actual single
Charles you CAN'T play smoke on the water
Pretty cool that you formed a band with mario and luigi
Don't do the "Jack White stuff "
So do some Jack Black stuff
Now I definitely wanna learn to play bass guitar
What kind of bass preamp and pickups in that bass sir?
Guitar solo 57 is my new ringtone.
Come at me.
Schecter Shirt? Schecter Guitar? Shcecter Signature Bass perhaps?
Amazing .. I can sense the "Just the two of us" vibe on this jam!
Wow I hadn't realized it but you're absolutely right, I feel it too!
basically the same chord progression between 1:21 and 1:27
i love how horrible the editing is for the explosions and lightning
That was both funny and funky-ass cool! Loved it!
I could hear this song literally for hours.
Love it when you play smooth jazz.
It's true, that's how it happened. I was the bass.
Hit the "like" button before I even heard it.
screw lead guitar solos, bass guitar solos rock
Charles' humor is getting better and better
I remember when that bass had fresh paint...
And can you play the playing god solo bass
this isnt the first bass solo, this is just a tribute
Please cover "Never There" by CAKE
Now I have to learn this song… so nice… awesome Charles
I absolutely love this kind of extremely emotional and melody focused music, absolutely nailed it
"my stick just EXPLODED" 🤣
This has such a Streets of rage feel to it
is it just me or the bass at 2:11 said "i love you baby"?
Bro you are actually one of the few people that really help me keep my passion for bass and music alive. Fascinating playing man keep up.
You make it look So damn easy ..
😂 Always love your videos!
YOU'RE AMAZING!!! it would be even more amazing if you put bass into Marcin Patrzalek's AMAZING SKILLS!! I'll beg you lol this would be incredible. MARCIN PATRZALEK ❤ please 🤞🤗
Ayyyy just like Davie504
I love the crazy guitar solo at the end! That cracked me up!!
Me too. 😂 I just bursted out laughing at the appreciation: "...but anyways..." Hahaha!
When does the album come out?
About 2 years ago, I ran into Charles in my local post office. Yesterday, I was in my car, and I saw a dude walking past me. He looked up, and I thought “holy )$&@, that’s Victor Wooten!” I yelled out the window, “Hey Victor! I love you!” He turned around, smiled, and called back, “Thank you!”
The gods have compensated me for my lack of talent by making the world’s best bass players randomly cross my path. If anyone has a message for when I meet Marcus Miller at Starbucks, let me know…
I would love to see you play some Bach fugue on bass. I recommend J.S. Bach: The Art of Fugue (BWV 1080), Contrapunctus VIII. You´re a great muscician and inspiration to the world of bass. Keep it up!
B that was truly epic TO ME! I’m first a lead guitar and bass second! YOU NAILED! It ! My concept of melodic playing on BASS! Thanks
We have a request - Jesus Christ Superstar Overture on Bass?
Can't help but imagine that it would be epic. That is...... If you can do it. (LOL... we know you can)
I need the tabs immediately
a friend once told me you could remove bass from any song, and it sounded the same.
so I listened to famous rock songs without bass, and there was not a single "low note guitar riff." to be heard.
so, fun fact, bass is that low note guitar riff sound in rock songs, not the guitar player.
Did the Two Of Us just get Rick Roll'd?!? I know you're never gonna let me down. And for that, I'm never gonna give you up. It's just the two of us: bass and I
@CharlesBerthoud wheres the congradulatory SLAPNADO for davie504 and his new wife.
That was one of the best soloes I have heard. So melodic and musical with focus on sounding good to the listener and not just showing off how fast you can play. Thanks.
