My best friend has a tradition in his family where they go in blindfolded to buy their instruments. They bring someone else in with them to hand them different instruments so they’re not influenced by the brand or the look or color and all they hear is the sound and all they feel is the instrument. I went in blindfolded with my friend and he handed me a ton of different basses. Some of them I played for a long time some of them I just noodled around on for a few seconds. When he handed me the bass that I ended up buying, I just played an open E one time and the words thats it fell out of my mouth. When I took the blindfold off I was holding an American P bass. It’s been about five years now and we’re still going strong
Adam Chabot At that point... I don’t think it would have mattered brand wise. Sounds like a few extra steps for a basic pick, but hey! More power to ya
This is why I love the bass community. There are always some nice old people in the bass section of a store that will respect you no matter what. They’re so fun😂

...or you can have both and play an active, million-knobs bass with flats/dead strings. similar tone with all the added flexibility. that works well for me.
When you showed the Ibanez one, you perfectly described what they are made for: Fast playing, with basically every tone available. Also, the lower models, like SR300 or 305 are extremely affordable.
I can vouch, my buddy had an SR305 back then and it was amazing to play, even as a guy who wasn't even good at guitar yet (my main instrument), much less bass.

Watching Tyler slap followed immediately by Adam slapping made me realize that I slap like a guitarist, which sounds like the bassist equivalent to "You hit like a girl."
So, I work at guitar center and the whole tag thing happens a lot. We slide the tag half way under the strings so the tags don't flip backwards, and then someone pulls it off to the wrong side, pulling it under other strings. It's never fun to fix. We definitely don't tie them under the strings.

That Mint Green PJ on the wall in the back looks like it's right up my alley. Vintage colors with all the modern tools and qualities you could want. Thats 50s P looks insanely good as well though. Precisions never fail when in doubt on what bass to pick up.
The “scratch and dent” sales are a joke. Store in Houston was trying to sell a casino with a neck that was 70% cracked at the neck pocket for $50 off and refused to go under 350 when I tried to deal on it. The poor manager kinda had that “I know it’s fucked” attitude when the infamous green screen wouldn’t let him do better. As well as when we discussed how unethical it was to keep that on the shelf without disclosing it.
@@shorts-xb1op I worked at one from 08-10 full time and 11-12 part time and can only imagine how much worse it’s gotten with the several changes in ownership / corporate level leadership since. The end of my full time tenure was the transition of the first big change when the company merged with all the other online retailers / partners involved (vague terms so I don’t seem like I’m speaking out of my ass just remember they were bought or bought some brands around that time) It sucks because many old friends still work for the company or left and came back so I still see old coworkers at local stores and they know I know the gist of how it works and thus understand the limits of what they can and can’t do. The only real bummer is when I worked there it was understood that we were not to flaunt deals or cost flip products but buying something for a close friend now and again was no biggie and now even that seems locked down. So while I’d love to give my friends the sale they know I’m not paying 3x cost for something simple like a boost or OD pedal. Or a cheap piece of pro audio gear, etc. Like you said no wonder they go bankrupt every other quarter it seems. They really need to adopt the oops I opened the box policy some other stores have with the way old inventory sits waiting to be written off. Not to mention the dumpstering and destruction of stuff as stiff policy
I love this demo, he doesn't automatically go to "slapfest" when picking up a bass. You can tell that he can play without the sense that he's showing off. Very rare for Guitar Center.
Honestly I’d go for the Ibanez, my sr505 is the most comfortable instrument I own and the sound is sublime. Personally I love the looks too, even though I know some aren’t keen. It’s a real shame they don’t make the 650 and above as left handed, I’d have 10 by now.
If all of Adam Neely you experience is his youtube videos (which is totally me) it's strangely easy to forget that he's an outrageously talented bassist.
That bassist in the hat is amazing lol. Also... I pray for the day when 1.) My guitar center rotates it’s inventory from literally only Fender and cheap Ibanez, 2.) stop high action basses, 3.) ROTATES INVENTORY
That first bass he tried, the blue/green p bass with the maple neck... I have that exact bass! I love it, glad to see it was at least considered by a pro!
I have the exact same bass, same color, same pickguard, neck, pu and everything. It was bought to give my trusty 1964 Precision a chance to retire. I bought the 1964's in 1979, and it served me well over all those years. I was stunned when I played the 1950's Precision. The neck was coated in a thick Poly finish, so after getting action, intonation and truss rod adjustment right, I had to get me some sanding paper to sand down most of the finish to give the neck a better feel. I play it with roundwounds until now, but I'll go and get a set of Ernie Ball Cobalt Flats, what will bring him even more to the feel and tone of its older Brother. Now, this bass feels like my good old one, the PU do sound a bit different, but I found a good substitute for my old one. Those '50's Precision Basses are really good instruments. I love mine a lot - and actually started using the P a lot more again in live situations, after some years of nearly playing only MusicMan StingRay basses, 5 and 4 strings, because I was like not really taking my old pal on stage anymore. I couldn't stand it if this one got lost or damaged. My 1964's Precision Bass will come with me and will be used in studio situations and for small gigs where I am able to keep an eye on the bass. There are so much memories in this bass. It was my main Instrument since I bought it, and it has seen a lot and could tell some weird storys.
@@luketuke02 Entwistle used a pick? I don't believe he did. He probably did sometimes. Picks are great on bass, just as good as fingers, depends on the song. Being imo the greatest bassist ever, he must know this
I have a 50s precision Fender Mexico in blonde with gold pickguard. Such a beautiful instrument wich waited years to be picked up by me in the local music store.
I work at GC. You can just pull those pop tags off, we will replace them if you do. There's a specific way to put them on, but people handle the instrument and it gets all funky.
GC’s “scratch and dent” prices are absurd. I just recently saw an American professional tele that had been dropped on some kind of hard surface and had a big crater in the top near the knobs and some other other hard dings where the finish and the paint had chipped away. Starting price: $1,449 Scratch and dent price: $1,299 Maybe scratched and dented guitars might sometimes be a good deal if you plan to relic the guitar but the damage on this particular example was way worse than anyone would typically do for a relic.
About a year ago I brought some friends to this GC and my friend picked up the second bass just to play seven nation army and nothing else. It's a shame that Adam played such nasty music on it like that

I work at a guitar center and the amount of sketchy shit that goes on behind the scenes here is insane it’s no wonder we go bankrupt every few years.
@@shorts-xb1op I worked at one from 08-10 full time and 11-12 part time and can only imagine how much worse it’s gotten with the several changes in ownership / corporate level leadership since. The end of my full time tenure was the transition of the first big change when the company merged with all the other online retailers / partners involved (vague terms so I don’t seem like I’m speaking out of my ass just remember they were bought or bought some brands around that time)
It sucks because many old friends still work for the company or left and came back so I still see old coworkers at local stores and they know I know the gist of how it works and thus understand the limits of what they can and can’t do.
I admire adam’s groove, I hope someday I’ll be as groovy as this legend
I love it when my favorite UA-camrs do videos together!
4:30 Scratch n' dent discount? Thats a broken body. More discount paalease😊
I love this demo, he doesn't automatically go to "slapfest" when picking up a bass. You can tell that he can play without the sense that he's showing off. Very rare for Guitar Center.
My heart skipped a beat when I saw all of those sg's
Wow, Adam is such a versatile and accomplished musician. It’s amazing to watch. He sounded incredible on that fretless.
I love how you are trying near thousand dollar basses and I'm over here with an almost all black Dean bass that I don't ever know the model of
Honestly I’d go for the Ibanez, my sr505 is the most comfortable instrument I own and the sound is sublime. Personally I love the looks too, even though I know some aren’t keen. It’s a real shame they don’t make the 650 and above as left handed, I’d have 10 by now.
We need jazz basses
Goes straight to try a P bass
The guy with the hat and overalls was the coolest one there
I‘d love some funky slap groove in one of the next Sungazer songs.
If all of Adam Neely you experience is his youtube videos (which is totally me) it's strangely easy to forget that he's an outrageously talented bassist.
This exact guitar center is where i bought my 7 string :p
I have one of those SRs, the SR305e, I honestly love it. you can get literally any tone out there, great for playing a plethora of genres.
I love how Adams bass abilities are just respected by all people all the time lol
you guys work so well together on videos, interesting and entertaining, thanks guys!
Handed a bass with a low B: immediately plays a numetal groove
I like that you choose a Mark Bass combo! (I have that Player Club and it is fantastic.)
Can we talk about the guy in the overalls though? 😂😂😂
Old blues guy...there still out there
The last one was clear winner. Also I can’t stop watching Adam on UA-cam.
Noone:
Adam Neely: I think is gonna be a 5 string jazz bass.
Reality: 4 string P- Bass.
P Bass is always the answer
Literally just bought my first bass last week. Fun stuff guys. This is the collab we need but don't deserve.
I occasionally revisit this video just for the "bad groove" guy
that moment when you realize that "the guy" next to you at Guitar Center testing out basses is Adam freakin Neely
That bassist in the hat is amazing lol.
Also... I pray for the day when 1.) My guitar center rotates it’s inventory from literally only Fender and cheap Ibanez, 2.) stop high action basses, 3.) ROTATES INVENTORY
This is my Guitar Center! Cool to see you guys in there.
Adam: * thinks he'd end up with a jazz bass*
Adam in the shop: *tries 2 P-basses and two active humbuckers and only one jazz bass*
For some reason it always surprises me when I remember that Adam is an amazing player.
WHAT YOU BOUGHT AN INSTRUMENT IN A MUSIC STORE WTF BRO YOURE CRAZZZYYYYY
That first bass he tried, the blue/green p bass with the maple neck... I have that exact bass! I love it, glad to see it was at least considered by a pro!
I forget how insanely good Adam is sometimes
I have the ESP B205SM that’s right behind them the entire time, SUCH a great bass!
"Doing a Thing in a Place it is Commonly Done"
And you still watched it. Mission accomplished! lol
there is always an extremely chill human being on the bass section at guitar center
4:52 That Bass' name is Tony Stark I love it 3000
❤️3️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣
I’m watching this video to remind me of how fun going to guitar center was in the before times.
i'm not even a bass player, what am i doing here!?
...not yet
Any instrument is a bass
Now I don’t know how much a PRS bass costs and I haven’t watched the video yet but I’ll put money on it that he either gets a PRS or a sterling
Snazzy Toast or a p bass...
Loved that classy groove guy at the beginning. Just wholesome
Whenever you use a pick on a bass... a big, brown, beaver dies!
Does it belong to Winona?
Jason Newsted uses a pick when he plays bass.
John Entwistle disagrees
@@luketuke02 Entwistle used a pick? I don't believe he did. He probably did sometimes. Picks are great on bass, just as good as fingers, depends on the song. Being imo the greatest bassist ever, he must know this
And Davie504 calls the FBI on you
8:35 I was jamming with Adam on my acoustic...played the "Love Rollercoaster" chords over that bassline.
Just the kind of video for me! Tomorrow im going to pickup my first "nice" bass. Its an American made Fender Jazz bass.
I have a 50s precision Fender Mexico in blonde with gold pickguard. Such a beautiful instrument wich waited years to be picked up by me in the local music store.
Name the bass "Compassion" because it's a positive character trait.
Bad groove guy looking like an rdr2 side quest character
what i say when someone plays something crazy good on the guitar/bass 10:32
Adam is funky as hell on that red bass
8:59 Woooooahhhhhhhhhhh did Tyler just drop a word that isn't allowed on kids TV?!?!
I work at GC. You can just pull those pop tags off, we will replace them if you do. There's a specific way to put them on, but people handle the instrument and it gets all funky.
Tyler:
We're in a situation
Me:
The perfect situation
GC’s “scratch and dent” prices are absurd. I just recently saw an American professional tele that had been dropped on some kind of hard surface and had a big crater in the top near the knobs and some other other hard dings where the finish and the paint had chipped away.
Starting price: $1,449
Scratch and dent price: $1,299
Maybe scratched and dented guitars might sometimes be a good deal if you plan to relic the guitar but the damage on this particular example was way worse than anyone would typically do for a relic.
6:08 Rare footage of Tyler playing *SLAPP* 🅱ASS
I so love the guy who joins in the conversation and watches
About a year ago I brought some friends to this GC and my friend picked up the second bass just to play seven nation army and nothing else. It's a shame that Adam played such nasty music on it like that
