LEGO City Train: Log Car MOD | from Cargo Train set 60198

- I thought that the Logs on the Log Car from the Cargo Train set 60198 didn't;t look very much like Logs!
So I gave the car and the Logs a bit of an upgrade MOD!
Maybe add the chains between the black technic pin connectors for a realistic look great additions though
Yes, a few other have also suggested that to me... I'll use the chains which I took off the original logs and I'll add them to the side stanchions.
I'd definitely say add at least one safety chain to wrap around the logs, keeps them in tighter then. Unless its for an industrial logging line, most wagon loads on the mainline had to be secured

I would actually make the extensions at the side longer, take off the barriers at the front and back, make my own, custom ones which would be taller and then add three more logs to the top to fill out the wagon completely. In real life though these wagons would stay as you have it in the video with that number of logs however the type of wagon in the video in the UK and Ireland at least wouldn't have been used on the main line since like the late 1960s or early 70s. During this period they would have turned into much longer bogie wagons and the modifications I first mentioned would have come after that.
I like the idea of making the sides taller (I'd need to get some more of those 2x2 round bricks though as I've used up all mine!!!!!)
I know what you mean about the real life train wagons, in my mind I sort of separate anything with the "LEGO City" tag, as being less true to life, from my more true to life rolling stock, like my Wessex Electric Class 442:

@MinifigJez ah yes, I see what you mean now. Even still, it's a great piece of rolling stock either way. If you ever wanted to add some vintage rolling stock to your collection, a few more of these wagons would be a great start! :D
I got this set not too long ago and knew immediately that at the very least, I need to add those printed log tiles. They really should’ve been included
Yes, even though the 2x2 log tiles came out a year before the train, it was only in one Disney Princess Snow White set. They didn't start to get widely used until the year AFTER this set came out. A year or so later and I bet they would have included them!
Won’t the 4th, 5th, and 6th logs slide off if the train rattles along or comes to an abrupt halt?
That’s. very good point. I haven’t run it at speed, but the 4th and 5th are protected from rolling off sideways, with the stanchions on each side, but a sharp stop might shoot them forwards! (and I’ve taken the 6th one off since filming)
Another person commented that chains going across would also make it more realistic, so I think I might add some of those and that will make friction to keep them in place.

Different crane attachment, use a grabber like how they do in real life logging
Yes, a crane with a toothed grabber on the end or just fold the side stanchions down and let the logs roll off.
Pretty good cusomization and a clear upgrade for the logs. I'm not entirely sure the grey needs to be replaced, but it surely looks a bit more streamlined, at the very least the pieces on the top add a bit of height that is better.
One of the things we wanted to modify with this train was definitely the log car, but so far we only changed the car with the containers, which now can carry a full 20 stud container on it. (that can also be loaded on a large truck that I've made as well) The container is fully enclosed with embossed panels to give it that shipping container look and can be opened on one end with 2 doors in the same color. (the first one is made in Dark Turquoise, next one will be red)
I wanted to change the grey as I thought it looked better with all of the station being the same colour. Your container car sounds a GREAT mod.
@@MinifigJez I think it looks better for sure, but considering you need to get extra parts for it, I tend to spare the money and time if the difference is not too great.
The main work for the container car is in the container itself, it is basically a 6x20x6 container made with Panels with corrugated profile and a bit of detail on the outside. It is modular so you can remove the top to fill the inside, but it also has doors.
I'm mostly happy with the fact that I also have a huge truck to carry it on roads. We're currently planning on making a few more and using the polar explorer ship base for a large container ship.
Did you have any other things planned for the train set? If so, I would be interested to know, or see another video about it.
@@pinobluevogel6458 I understand what you say and if I had to buy the extra parts I probably would have kept them grey, but I'm fortunate that I have a large spare parts store, so I had the parts already. Plus I;m just a big fan of the colour black !
How do you get the logs off with the crane though eh???
It’s ok, the side stanchions are attached to hinges… they can just fold down and allow the logs to roll off….
