I love you but what the hell are you talking about? I can play a lot of these songs on my guitar??????
haha woo!! big daddy pecks!!
Great Video!
Perhaps I clicked on this video just to hear another "muhahaha"!!!!
Perhaps I did as well good sir
Think I got a decent handle of muhahaha’s in there
Even if we don’t learn any music theory - the muha haha makes it all worth it
For the first time in all these years of watching videos of theory, I finally understood how modes work😢Thank you Shred! You just said the things in the right and simplest way, and it clicked!
This is great news, time to celebrate!
I took a year of jazz at uni….this bearded man taught me modes better.
Muhahaha! I'm familiar with intervals but I would have never thought to present them as you did with specific songs as reference ~ very nice!!!
Not just songs but riffs instead of solos as you might expect.
I started watching your videos about a month ago and have made more progress in this month than I have in the last year.
Awesome! Keep going!
Dude, that’s awesome! What a great feeling right?
I've always been frustrated with music theory . I can play shit that sounds really good and with good rhythm and timing. People around me tell me I'm good but I don't have a clue WTF I'm actually playing . I know that if I learned theory it would take me to another level . Hope you can help me Shred . ✌
I feel that man I can play alright nothing crazy or over the top but good enough for my own happiness but I just don’t get what I’m playing or how people can hear a note and know what it is I have what I call “no pitch” 🤣
Greetings. Man Thank you, Thank you. Finally, music theory is making a lot of sense. I have been seeing that circle in all my books and have not been able to make any sense of it for the last 5yrs, you come along and in a matter of moments i have a basic understanding to start me running. Stay metal.
I'm always impresssed with the new and creative ways you subtlety flip me the bird in your videos🤣
I learned the minor scale first, so every other scale gets referenced back to that for me.
That’s cool, I prefer the minor scale myself
I knew you were a little crazy already. That thought was confirmed by your untrimmed strings. All jokes aside this is actually one of the best videos on music theory and is super easy to follow.
Thank you fishman, that means a lot!
I figured he was crazy cuz of the white powder under his nose
Great video. I love how you apply application to the theory. I never knew that iv V of the scales create tension to return to the i until i saw your video one day. Been using that since!
That’s incredible news! Makes my day when the light bulb comes on!
This is like a workout for the brain! Learning so much you never knew existed, it's so rewarding
Thank you so much for using examples of these concepts are used in songs, it's really helpful
This is great stuff! Been getting into playing things other than just basic chords over the last 5 years. Never really learned any of these musical terms, but very easy to follow along. Even figured out shine on You crazy diamond was a minor 7th while you were lecturing.
That’s correct! Feels amazing when you figure stuff out right?
@@ShredmasterScott band practice was AMAZING this week! You're an ace and absolute game changer bud 😃
Finally! This is exactly what I been looking for!
A step by step method instead of being thrown in the middle of the ocean
Thanks for the video and the breakdown!!! Your guitar tone sounds heavenly.
Thank you Gustavo!
papa shred thank you a lot!!! gonna get me a whap juice to start hitting those scales!!!!!
this video is the pinnacle of theory for guitar thank you master muhahahahha
Agreed! Master all the examples in this video and you’ll be a theory monster!
By far one of the best videos on music theory on YT!!! This made everything so clear by showing how it all works together in a frame work that anyone can understand \m/
Thank you church! I hope the musical examples make theory more relevant!
For Sure! I've heard about the intervals but this is probably the first video I've seen that shows what they are and how important they are when writing music@@ShredmasterScott
I really like this guys content, he really knows his stuff. Im new to learning guitar and trying to learn music theory feels like your 5 years old and your dad throws you into the ocean off his boat without a lifejacket. But this is pretty clear, gonna have to watch it a few times to fully grasp, but good stuff. Thx
Never ever understood modes until this short lesson. Wow. Modes unlocked!!! Thank you
Thanks for this shred, im gonna take this knowledge to my guitar lessons and apply them to my playing so i can write actual good songs
You are awesome! Very fun to watch
Best music teacher ever. I am so happy that i discovered your channel.
You're amazing... CHEERS!
Brooooo , I really want A les paul like that! (even tho i am a bassist) . Also your videos are amazing and they helped me a lot!
Unreal thanks for this❤
I honestly think the comment I left on your short video about sweep picking inspired you to make this video. I really appreciate that.
I often get inspired by comments when it comes to making videos!
I enjoy just relaxing after work putting on some of your vids and just jam out lmao 😂
It’s like we’re jamming together!
Shredmaster Scott is the only reason I am not failing music.
Morning coffee and a fresh video from lord Shred! This will be a good day :D
coffee and shredding is a win win combination my brother!
@@ShredmasterScott hell yeah. Nothing better than caffeine jitters to help build speed 😄
You've explained modes in more clarity than I've ever hear before.
That’s great news buckwheat! I’m glad this method made sense!
I’ve watched all of ur videos on music theory, looked it up, have watched every UA-cam video on it, and I still don’t get a single thing
You've absolutely cleared up my confusion about the scales vs modes. i'm about to go and write six hundred and sixty six new riffs with this knowledge, muahahaha
Muhahaha, that’s amazing, riff lord status attained!
this is so badass thanks, theres sooo much to music its seriously wow
That’s what makes it fun!
This works well with a self taught musician as myself. Thank you Papa Shred!
If your under high school, taking band class can really help. In middle school I played in percussion and in marching band HS I played Xylophones. I learned a lot of music theory like circle of fifth, how to practice properly, and a lot of great shit in Middle school/HS. Great way to read music and understand guitar is a weird piano. :)
I have officially found my favorite Metal Music Video. Hail to the King by Avenge7. Wow. Had to listen 3X in a row.
Really helpfull video! Thanks! I apply the circles of fists every day now!
I'm glad to finally see someone who uses the same 'just get out of the way' technique when locking the strings on the neck. I no longer feel alone however it's still an absolute disaster
Guitar theory with fitness workouts great stuff.
Nice lesson as always Shred! Is that a 60s LP standard? Sounds great!
Me: I hope this can teach me music theory
The video: 1:15 immediately flips me off
Yea this has always been like trying to understand Japanese or any foreign language...it gets overwhelmingly confusing for me when it comes to any "technical" guitar stuff the way i guess i try to improve my playing is just by constantly trying to learn new riffs and solos from some of my favorite bands but from someone whose been playing for 27yrs but haven't really improved much...I had a tough time just trying to get a guitar that I can afford that aesthetically fits me for my best playing. Because I'm a lefty but have mainly owned right handed strat body knockoffs and first issue was I started playing a right handed guitar upside down. So the strings were reversed for me but I could play songs just by ear but after years I realized I couldn't even play general power chords (try playing a power chord reversed....its really akaward) so eventually paid to get the nut piece from a left handed guitar so the strings would be correct and that was basically like relearning guitar all over again. And then realized I can hardly solo low on the fretboard because of the lower horn was closer to my low E string instead of the high E. And havent had a guitar that i could bend the strings up a whole fret with ease like I see peoples guitars on UA-cam vids so those types of things sort of hinder me from my full potential. But like i have trouble trying to follow just tabs because i dont really have a reference on exactly where im at in a song and get lost trying to learn solos through tabs or I know what strings to play on what fret but I dont know how its picked and it gets confusing. Ive always just played what I wanted of mainly cover songs and did everything willy nilly with no structure or technical playing i just liked to learn songs by ear and whenever I get stuck I look up guitar lesson vids on here and I actually learn alot from just covering my favorite guitarist and learning their styles of playing
Could you do a video on making a metal Fague?
Maybe with a polyrythm guitar chugg?
what a fantastic video have a wonderful day also happy holiday season ❤😊
Thank you my brother! I’m ready to party through the holidays!
Dude. You rock!
That evil laugh takes me out😂😂😂😂. Mu Ha ha ha
Hey Shred. Every time I try to fard, I shid. Any tips and not shiddin pant?
Lol! Stellar instruction but also funny! 🎉 ahhhh!! My brain is on fire!!! 🔥 muahhhhaaaaa!!!
Muhahaha, I love the feeling of breaking a mental sweat!
Used to hate the muhahahas’ but now I sit there waiting for it
Thank you brother great as always 🤘🥵🤘💧💧💧
Thanks Shred, sent this to my band mates 🤫
Muhahaha, excellent! Write a hit track for me
i'm breaking a mental sweat.... looking at those strings!! please clip!!!!
Shred is the coolest guitar teacher 🤘
Does Crawling from LP use the minor 7th? That was the first thing I thought of when you played the interval.
The video every guitarist needs!
Facts my brother!
I love having my music Locrian ala mode.
Awesome fucking video I’d look into your Patreon after watching this great explanation
Thank you 326! I’m dropping like 4 of these videos a week on patreon right now. My patrons are making insane gains muhahaha!
I think of modes like accents in speech. It's the same language but with a different "accent"
Great video dude
Thank you pancake!
This is gold
Don’t watch if you’re a beginner, bro lost me 5 minutes in. Had a great nap though so my time wasn’t wasted 🙏
You might watch it few times to understand like i did
So that’s what modes are. Awesome video
Thank you Malcolm! Modes are a fascinating topic!
Very helpful thx
Just learned about you but it makes me really wanna relearn all this
Let’s goooo Jace! 2024 is the year to shred!
If you think this type of theory is brain busting, check out Arnold Schoenberg and try completely understanding smoothly modulating between and threw all of the different keys.
Highly recommend Pierrot Lunaire it has some asbolutely jarring and phenomenal key changes. Schoenbergs chart of regions is one of his great contributions to music.
In poland we have H note wich is B
But we also have B note wich is A#
twinkle twinkle little star is also
now i know my ABCs too.
thats what i learned, thank you.
I have such a hard time writing tunes despite having a novice grasp of the sound/theory of these intervals
This week I’ll be dropping some composition tutorials on patreon. Writing music with theory is incredibly fun but it takes practice !
A better example for the blues scale would have been Jump In the Fire
SPOOKAY AAAAGHHHHRRRRRRRRR AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH thanks bro
I know you already know this but you are the coolest guy on the interwebs.
Wait so relating to modes, if D Dorian starts on the second note of the C major scale, would it still be “D” Dorian if we’re playing the C major scale notes and not D major?
does the sunlight inside that room hurt your eyes lol The ''too cool for you'' sunglasses? like Esteban haha
It’s part of his persona
Thanks shred.
I didn't pick up the guitar again after all these years of struggling to be a slouch. I did pause the video to bust a quick pump after a year off...
12:07 "a scale within a scale" is not a great way to think about it in my opinion. it's a scale DERIVED from another scale. 'within' would be more suited to describe a pentatonic (but even then thats a bad description as it is its own independent thing).
I'm using the Guitar grimoire and learning MANY different types of scales, is that considered music theory? It includes a lot of information similar to this
Yeah. Scales are a part of theory.
Scales absolutely count as theory!
@ShredmasterScott then I am practicing the Hungarian minor 4 in F# and / G FLAT
@@blakeoms sweet
You should make a video about figured bass
Not a bad idea
@@ShredmasterScott Yeah there aren't any videos on UA-cam of someone explaining it from a guitarist point of view. So it would be unique :)
3:17 Master Of Pupetzzzzahh
Tom Petty - Here Cums My Girl part nailed me so hard that I shed a tear!
Great video!
AWESOME
Not sure how OBVIOUS it might be to ppl still learning Shred... But one thing u don't mention ... Is that the FIRST TWO NOTES of your sample riffs are where the discussed interval is ... U kinda gloss over that small but crucial detail when u just call out and play the entire riff... Ppl might be wondering where the example of the intervals are ... And that's the FIRST 2 notes of the riff/melody y'all...
Yeah but he's also getting you to hear the interval within a piece of music so it has some context as well.
I go into way more detail in my full course. Breaking down every example would have easily doubled the time of this video. You’re correct though, if you want to really understand the material, you have to break it down!
I get music theory, but what do I do now? How do I apply it to actual playing?
We ❤ Shred
Dude 🤘
Great, now to study guitar I'll need to buy a set of dumbbells?
A good pump keeps your fingers moving muhahaha!
WHOM
R
YOU??
Had to subscribe to you.
Saw the Kirk Hammett, Friedman video & you had me LOLOL.
Got lost in lv 2
You should listen to Mozart's Variations of Twinkle Little Star... Anything but boring and also that's not the original name of the melody as it originally was a German jig (I just say that because the German name of the piece does not mention Twinkle Little Star but you can find it if you search for that)
why are your strings not in the right order after the nut?
i loev you
18:04 what’s this song??
i just don’t understand how these songs translate to the modes. i’m looking at the modes and the songs and they don’t sound alike or have similar notes. am i missing something? like i get what modes are, but the examples are tripping me up
The key translated to the relative major mode I guess
*YES*
How the fuck did I understand this and I haven't touched a sheet of music since highschool
Nice ya
How does the tritone go from 5-7 to 666 to 3-2-2-1 or something what are you talking about
13 minutes in and my brain hurts. God I suck
