    Thank you very much for your help to understand the boxing system; but how I can get the ED without ruler?

    • @LaramyKOptical
      @LaramyKOptical  3 роки тому +2

      You can't. But I'm guessing you mean how do people just "know" the ED from the frame measurements shown or stamped on the frame. A rule of thumb can be A + 2 but that only works (some of the time) for simple shapes and smaller to mid-sized frames. So for a 52/19 you might guess of an ED of 54. Won't matter much until you are trying get the thinnest possible lens in plus powers.

    Please formulas of boxing system

  • @bpark10001
    @bpark10001 7 років тому +1

    Comments about boxing system: you cannot always read the A and B directly from the frame! For example, for a slanted oval, the A and B must be read from the boundaries of the box. Because the oval is slanted, there is no place to measure. You must construct the box, and then measure the box. That is the whole principle of the "boxing system"
    You also comment where the "edge" of the lens is. For a lens fitted in a grooved frame (usually most plastic and full-rim metal frames), the box is tangent to the flat part of the lens edge, not counting the protruding part. For grooved lenses (in half-frames using nylon cord), the boundary of the lens is the flat edge, not the groove.
    Please comment on the details of this! Do frame tracers trace the groove or the flat surface outside the groove? Another measurement is lens circumference. Is that measured over the protruding groove, or over the flat part of the lens edge?

      Brian,
      If you have a different way of doing anything I show then by all means use it. As long as you get good consistent results - that is all we are ever after.

    Sir your explanation is very easy.
    I want know sir , how we give segment drop in bifocal

    • @LaramyKOptical
      @LaramyKOptical  6 років тому

      In the US segment "drop" is the distance from half the frame "B" and the top of the segment. It is another way set height can be written. X # mm below half the B or X # mm above the lowest point in frame eyewire opening. John

    Hi John,
    I have a question. (Disclaimer: I'm not an optician, just someone trying to get a decent pair of glasses for my Dad.)
    I was doing some searching and reading about UV400, and an article on the Laramy-K website named "The Problem with UV400 Treatments" came up on Google. That article was written in 2010, which was a long time ago. Do you know if it's still the case that the UV400 treatments used on most lenses lose their effectiveness fairly quickly, or if things have changed for the better since then?
    I know you didn't write that particular article, but I wondered if you or anyone at your lab could shed some light on this topic. Many thanks if you can answer.

    • @LaramyKOptical
      @LaramyKOptical  7 років тому

      Yeah No,
      All are welcome here.
      UV400 dip coatings are primarily used on CR-39 or the original plastic used for lenses.
      Most glasses today use other materials that have good UV protection built into the lens.
      A good AR or non-glare coating can also add additional UV protection.
      It comes down to material and how much UV exposure he might be getting in daily life.
      When outdoors one should be wearing a good pair of sunglasses!
      Otherwise IMO any good lens and AR coating should provide all he needs for ordinary daily living.
      John

    Can u tell me what is abo and give further details

  • @ronwisegamgee
    @ronwisegamgee 4 роки тому

    Hello Mr. Seegers.
    I'm having some trouble when getting A, B, and C measurements. My issue has to do with the placement of the PD ruler on the lens' front surface, due to its curvature. When I rest the PD ruler on the lens' surface, is it supposed to rest flat on the middle of the lens or do I press the 0mm mark against the edge of the lens and follow it until the other edge, all the while flattening the ruler as I go?

    • @LaramyKOptical
      @LaramyKOptical  4 роки тому

      Assuming a plastic PD stick with some give I would lay the wider flat side against the lens for stability and use my thumbs nasally and temporally. Don't make yourself crazy about it... The only time 0.5mm will matter is if you are trying to get the absolutely thinnest possible plus lens in surfaced.

    whats the effective diameter ed of 54 mm round lenses
