    I am about 4-5 months into my optician career and I seriously wish I was watching these from day 1. Better late than ever I guess, but seriously these have been FANTASTIC because you're addressing all of my questions/doubts through these videos. Even the customer interaction skits are great. Thank you a million times :)

      If you think the videos are good wait until you start the OpticianWorks online program. Tell your classmates about it too.

    Wow, I've never had an optician help me find glasses based on the my script. They've always helped me look for frames that just look nice.

      Really good opticians may well be doing it without you ever noticing. Experienced opticians can read a lot just from looking at what you are wearing when you come in. I wouldn't necessarily assume that they weren't thinking about it. Of course the opposite is always possible - let's hope not. John

    This is SO important - guidance. My last visit my (new) optician told me I wanted nose pads AFTER I told her I wanted to go back to plastic frames after wearing nose pads for several years. Then she proceeded to choose frames so large that they literally sat on my cheeks. I won't be back.

    I've had instances where people don't care about the thickness but want the frame...even bringing their own oversized sunglasses frame and asking to make them into standard glasses. Yes they were -4.25 to some at -7! Explained what will be result but they didn't care and loved them.
    Starting to think many are not as self concious as once they were.

      Personally I think anyone wiling to wear the 70's dinner plate specials today can't be very self conscious about their appearance to begin with so what is a 9mm edge thickness to them? Of course I'm an old curmudgeon. Or perhaps as my Dad might say, "Those are good, they cover more of your face." (he wasn't a very nice person)

      I brought in a frame this time, but that's because I'm -8, 4'11", close set eyes, but my head is a bit wide, and there was sod all in the shop that fit me. One frame managed to be far too wide in the lens and yet too tight on my head. So I looked around online and found a petite frame range my optician had stocked before, got his blessing, bought four, brought them in, and he still brought me half a dozen other frames to try. Only one fitted, one of the ones I'd found.

    Can we also talk about the importance of choosing the correct frame style in a high rx. Example not using a rimless or semi-rim.
    I have new associates that have put customers in frame the were semi-rimless in a -7.00!! Which we know is a big 👎 needless to say the customer was not happy and wasn't aware of this situation as a new progressive wearer. I know a good explanation would definitely be Educational and prevent future remakes for us and keep our customers happy the first time.

      Thanks! Oops I did kind of forget about rimless and semi-rimless. (even though I have a few on the board) But certainly worth a stand alone video. I'll add it to the list.

      @@LaramyKOptical yes, please do so. I'm working in the Congo, and I noticed it's usually the receptionists (downstairs) who guide the patients when choosing frames (with little knowledge of the field.) They're all friends of the Boss who's barely around, and that's kinda making my job tougher trying to get them to understand the Rx/frame relationship. As I'm newly employed there, it is not easy to snatch my respect so they can follow my advice lol (too many poor frame choices in the past 4 months since I've started working for them)

    Hi John, This is so helpful - thank you! About frame depth toward the cheek... for those of us who see up-close better without glasses - is it good to leave a little room toward the cheek to see beneath the lens for a quick look up-close when needed? My Rx is -4.50 in both; -1.75/-1/25; 95/75, with an Add of +2.50 in both.

    • @LaramyKOptical
      @LaramyKOptical  2 роки тому +1

      Absolutely! If that works for you then then "peek under" is a great way to go. You know what works - I don't think I would deliberately compromise the fit of a progressive to build it into the glasses - but - a little gap should be just fine or when wearing single vision then for sure! The peek under or peek over!

      @@LaramyKOptical Thank you! And yes, I often "peek" under with an old pair pf single vision glasses. I'll keep what you say in mind for my next pair of progressives... don't compromise the fit. Thank you!

    Do you think wider corridor progressives are necessary and worth spending the money for?

    • @LaramyKOptical
      @LaramyKOptical  2 роки тому +3

      I don't think I'd use the term "wider corridor" progressive. Free-form and other advanced lens design techniques can help create larger areas of usable vision. Are they "worth the money" LOL only you or your customer can decide that! Does a well made expensive free-form progressive lens provide better vision? Heck yeah they do. Will that matter to you or your customer? That depends on so many things. Billions with a b of folks out there wearing plain old progressives and they are perfectly happy with them. But of course as power goes up every little bit helps and some people simply want "the best" you have to offer. [not sure if you are a consumer or an optician?] John

    • @cocopoco2006
      @cocopoco2006 2 роки тому

      @@LaramyKOptical I am an optician. I offer ‘better’ progressives for people with high powers, but I was also told that the measurement dictates, not the ‘wider corridor’ or free form. I use progressives, but I can’t tell the difference

    • @LaramyKOptical
      @LaramyKOptical  2 роки тому

      @@cocopoco2006 I'm not sure what you mean? What measurement? If you sell something that makes you and your customers happy - keep doing it. But a free-form progressive (when made properly) will provide a lens with more usable areas and with better visual acuity. So, what "you were told" and what is true may not be correct. ????

    But aren't high plus powers are thinner in a bigger frame? I was trained high minus go small high plus go bigger... getting the feeling I got bad training.

    • @LaramyKOptical
      @LaramyKOptical  2 роки тому +6

      Yeah, no. Minus powers get thicker at the edge with diameter, plus powers get thicker in the middle. You might want to have word with your trainer. It also, might not be a bad idea to revisit the topic, while you're at it. ;)
