  • When a reaction fails unexpectedly, it is a good idea to ensure an oxygen-free environment, which includes degassing the reaction solvent. Oxygen is more damaging to many organic reactions than H2O. So basically degassing, also known as degasification which is the removal of dissolved gases specifically oxygen from solvent or solutions and hence provide an inert environment for the reaction, so that no external impurities like unwanted gases can interrupt our reaction.
