Fun fact: the story of Peter Pan was originally a play in 1901, before becoming a book adaptation in 1911. The book is like a novel version of the play, I’ve read the entire thing, and so it explains some things like it is a play script. At the end of the book, it explained how Wendy would go back for spring cleaning, but once she became an adult, Peter took her daughter Jane every few years for “spring cleaning.” It also explained that this would repeat over and over again, with each new generation coming back to Neverland for spring cleaning. The story of Peter Pan was only the story of how the generational journeys to Neverland began.
Edit: Holy cow I check back after 4 months and quotations will be the death of me. To clarify so you don’t need to check the replies, Spring Cleaning was an excuse made for Wendy to be able to go back to Neverland, she only wanted to spend more time with Peter and have fun in Neverland. It’s almost never in spring and barely any cleaning involved, I’m extremely sorry that it was so confusing for people.

    • @InkyR0S3S
      @InkyR0S3S 2 роки тому +347

@@kyghosty9545 of course! In the book after Wendy, John, Michal, and the lost boys came to the nursery, Wendy wanted to have a chance to frequently go back to Neverland, but her mother didn’t want her staying for as long as she did in the books (close to about 5 months.) So Wendy suggested going back for Spring Cleaning to still be like Peter’s mother. Peter eventually forgot because you can’t really keep track of time in Neverland, and by the time Wendy went back, the pirates were all dead and Tinker Bell passed away. The Spring Cleaning would often be years apart, so Peter was horrified and disgusted the sight of her when she was grown up.

You are making peter pan sound more malicious than he actually is. Hes a jerk refusing responsibility and therefore perpetually forgets anything that would mean having to grow up which includes sympathy atnd empathy. Loss of family/friends/trauma. He simply can not umderstand it.

For him, it's just his nature.

I remember reading a book series called Peter and the Starcatchers, where Neverland first started as an ordinary island with its own people but the magic itself came from stardust, that wound up creating merpeople and fairies, and even Peter Pan. Mr. and Mrs. Darling were supposedly the same age, and had grown up fighting pirates and protecting the starstuff from a shadow monster. I'd imagine that he grew up and put all his adventures on the back burner when he became a banker and loving husband and father to his wife and children. Deep down, I don't think they'd forgotten about the boy who couldn't grow up. ^^

Mr. Darling is lucky that he got away from Neverland alive…in the book Peter Pan by JM Barrie, Peter would kill the Lost Boys that were getting too old…(he’d “thin” the Lost Boys out-hence likely kill them)
I wonder how many pirates that hate Peter are actually former Lost Boys that managed to escape from Peter and get sanctuary from the Pirates…
It’d definitely turn the story on its head regarding who the real villain is…
Edit: if there’s a reason why I can’t say that the book by JM Barrie actually says that Peter “thins” the Lost Boys out please just do a reply comment, so that I can edit my comment instead of just deleting my newer (or this) comments that try to clarify what book I was referencing about Peter killing off the Lost Boys…

The book series “Peter and the Starcatchers” was written after the success of Peter Pan, by different people. It is a re-imagining of how they thought Peter Pan came to be. It isn’t exactly cannon with Peter Pan, but it is quite the story all the same.
The ability to fly came from stardust. The remnants of the star were put on a ship that also happened to have Peter and the other orphaned boys on it as well as Molly, who would grow up to be Wendy’s mother. He and Molly found fast friendship on that ship, but Captain Hook, then known as Captain Black Stashe because the crock had not yet eaten his hand, heard of the mystical treasure aboard the ship and attacked it. Molly and her father were the only ones who knew the true nature of the stardust. She used some dust in her locket to fly when she and Peter were knocked from the ship. While the boys were drowning, she flew to a rowboat and came around to get them. Eventually the pirates ended up moored on the very same island as the children. The rest is history.
When Molly’s father found them, Peter had tried to keep the stardust from Hook by opening the chest and letting the stardust cover him. It would have killed any other person, but somehow he survived and was forever young with the Perminant ability to fly from then on. Molly’s father used the last of his stardust on a bird nearby to create a guardian to look after the boys after he and Molly were gone and Tinkerbell was born.
How Wendy’s father fits into the story is in the second book. Peter learns of a darkness that may come for Molly, so he flies, taking a boat hidden in the sails to avoid being seen whenever he had to rest. Molly had become friends with Charles back home in London by then. The three went on an adventure together to stop the darkness with Charles being somewhat reluctant to do so and not knowing about stardust like Molly did, so it took quite a bit of convincing for him to believe that these Dementor-like monsters were after mystical stardust that could turn you immortal from prolonged exposure. He never did go to Neverland, but he did get to see Peter use the stardust that the monsters were after on a ship so that they flew away from the monsters. He even got a chance to fly.
The end story is, Molly was originally in love with Peter, but as he could not grow old with her and had to go back home, she married her other friend Charles.

She was found in the woods 6 months after their disappearance with no recollection of what had happened. On her 18th birthday she’s driving home when she a man falls out of the sky and she hits him with her car. He calls out to her Wendy, Wendy and she’s like who the hell is this guy? He tells her he’s peter pan and she says that’s impossible, I made you up to deal with the grief of losing my brothers. Peter’s lost his shadow who is kidnapping kids and Peter needs Wendy to help reattach him. Along the way she also investigates what happened to her brothers and the ending got me in the feeels!!!

Molly goes home and peter forgets about her, even though they had that amazing adventure. eventually, molly moves on and has a daughter, wendy, and peter comes back and takes wendy away. eventually the cycle continues again with wendy’s daughter, many many years later.

After Disney discontinued their contract with him (ironically because he was growing up too much), Bobby Driscoll, the voice behind Peter Pan, struggled with addiction and eventually died alone in an abandoned apartment building in Manhattan, where two kids found his body. The city failed to ID him, so he was buried in a mass grave on Hart Island for years before his mother came looking for him and finally uncovered the truth of what happened. Of course, all they could do was tell her where he was buried, they couldn't find him or move him, so he's still there. He was 31.

Yes that’s correct. He use to be a lost boy, then became Captain Hook. And so was his crew. They were all lost boys once long ago.
Pan is the real villain. In the real stories, Peter Pan was the villain that was trapped to grow up, and killed all the teenagers for growing up without him, while Captain Hook “being a lost Boy survivor” rescued those teenagers from Pan to become his cremates and help save the children from Peter Pan and bring them back home to safely grow up there. Pan was always stealing/kidnapping kids and lying to them to tell them about Never where they can always have fun as kids, and never half to grow up there. But it’s nothing more than a trap as soon as they start to grow up.
