I think you are absolutely right. Times are changing and ive been on the going to the salon for root touchups and highlights every 4-5 weeks for 5 years straight. I recently moved and i didn't have my hair dresser anymore. Fortunately ive been to beauty school and graduated, just never did anything with my education. I now do my own hair at home and go to the salon to get a complete new service to get everything perfect again and then im maintaining now. Its empowering to know what you're doing and being able to save a little money also. Your videos are very important because people will do their own st home and guidance is better than none. You offer the best advice and i have been watching you for years ❤
I have watched and learned from you for a long time. We even went through our pregnancy and stages of infants at same Time. Anyway, I just want to say thank you and you are an amazing teacher. I do my own highlights, lowlights, root tap and smudge all on my own now and on really long hair and its way prettier than the $500 job from beautician I've gone to - all because of you. Its incredible You have a real gift and you've helped me become an artist if my own. I'm not a hairdresser but I live the hair you e helped me create. Please never stop. You're the only channel I trust. Luv ya girlie and thank you. ❤
No hair dresser have ever listened to me with color or cut. I tell them strawberry blonde and I get brown, I say blunt cut because my hair is fine and layers don't work well, and I get super layers hair copped up 5 inches in length. I stopped going to the salon and DIY it with my beauty school dropout know how. I do a better job than any hair dresses has done. I have gone to some fancy pricey too. No more!
Thank you for this, Silvia! I wish more hair dressers understood that taking a collaborative approach is the way to keep loyal clients. When a colorist refuses to just tell me when I ask the formula they're using for my roots or my toner after highlights, so that I can keep it up at home in between visits, I won't go back to them. I simply can't afford to pay professionals to do everything my hair needs when it needs it. But if they work with me and set me up for success with the DIY touch-ups in between visits, then I'll trust them and come back to them again and again. Thankfully, I've become so good at doing my own out of necessity (thanks to Silvia's amazing tutorials and a virtual consult) that I don't even want to go back to the salon, except maybe for a cut. I've been doing my own cuts too for the past two years, with the help of Silvia's tutorials, but it might be time to let a professional take over!
I totally understand what you’re saying. For example, I’m a brunette and I really like my brown hair, but I love to see light, just in the temple area; especially when I wear my hair up, pulling down pieces in front of my ears. That’s the ‘impact ‘ area I strive for. Thank you again Sylvia, for helping all us DIY-ers! You explain things perfectly. Have a very happy and blessed Mothers Day next weekend 😃
You’ve found a timely niche. My coiffure has always been at the top of my list, but more importantly, I don’t want anything that needs to be maintained by someone else, especially something attached to my body.
The shorter hair suits you so well! 👌🏼😍 I have also had trouble booking hair appointments in the past because I always say „highlights and cutting split ends“ but often I want something different, I’m just not sure how to explain it. I want my natural hair with a few lighter pieces, but I end up with over-processed all over blonde, which is too cool for my skin tone. I guess my three words would be natural, feminine and beachy. I wish you could be my hairdresser but unfortunately you’re over the pond 😅
This is such a Practical Helpful video. It seems so real-life, especially hair being a salon/home hybrid, and what you want your hair to "say." Reality on social media is what we all need. Thank you! 💕
Hi ! I looove your house and colors . I don’t know if you have a video on a house tour , but if not please make one 🙏🏻 must know ❤ thank you for your videos
As far as hair color, my "life long" goal (because I haven't reached it in a salon or at home yet) is the hair color you have in THIS video. I've come close with the help of your videos back when you first explained why many of us pull orange or red tones and yes, red hair is beautiful but for me, I don't want anything to do with it. I've told my stylists beforehand that I will stop at orange and they never believe me until that's what I end up with. 😭 I know I just haven't seen the right colorist yet and that's why I am about to fly to you and sit in your chair one day (if you will have me). If not, at least a virtual consultation. As far as hairstyle, I always wear my hair up in a clip. I'm beginning to think I'm not using the right terminology while describing what I want, I want ash tones. I do not want warm tones, I think?? 🥴
Thank you so much I've never had a hairdresser explain it to me this way it really makes a lot of sense and I thank you so much I will bring this to the table when I go back to my hairdresser
Great video Sylvia It’s so true. I like hair that really stands out; lived in etc. is really not my vibe I’ve tried natural highlights but if I’m blonde, I want it the lightest brightest blonde. A dimensional blonde is never bold enough for me - I hate low lights (on me) and I’m quite happy to come in for maintenance. I do a double process and am the lightest golden blonde. I was the same going dark, I tried medium brown but it didn’t last… I wanted to go darker and darker I love my hair to be a stand out feature in my overall appearance
I always have a consult with a hairdresser before the appt. I have tons of pictures of the exact color I want. I know exactly what color I want. I have grey hair. It’s been many years since I started going grey and I’ve yet to achieve the color I want. My hair ALWAYS comes out too red/orange. It’s not that I want ash hair because that wouldn’t look good on me. But I often get hot red roots, or roots that are too light, and it’s always too red and not brown enough. I am at a loss.
I love your hair color. Can you post exact toners you used, I know you ou used the Better Nature 7A on roots. Are you still using that? Didn’t oxidize at all? Is it better than the Redken 8Ag and 6NN you used in another video? Your hair color is exactly what I’ve been looking for - thanks!
You are the hair colorist that I wish I had. You are very talented at what you do.
This is so real, I have a love/ hate relationship when going to a professional.
Sylvia, we need a tutorial on like Sallys brands. Shades EQ looks phenomenal, but we can't get our hands on it as easily if we dont have a license.

I am the same. Never again.

Can you do a video on second day hair re-vamp?
Thank you so much I've never had a hairdresser explain it to me this way it really makes a lot of sense and I thank you so much I will bring this to the table when I go back to my hairdresser
I'm glad I could offer some clarification to your next salon consult.
Great video Sylvia
