    Mulberry thrives in the high deserts of northern Nevada as well. Freezing temps, heat. Drought. Handles it all in stride.

    Shamus, I’ve been wanting to plant a mulberry tree. Can people with dogs plant these? I read they are safe “as long as the dogs are not eating handfuls.” I would think most dogs would indeed eat handfuls!

    Re: privacy screen, I still vote for clumping bamboo if privacy a priority since (at least ours) mulberries drop drop their leaves in the winter.

    • @releventhurt
      @releventhurt 2 роки тому +3

      But do they fruit? No but maybe you could flank them on the ends on the bamboo screen

    • @annewendt8434
      @annewendt8434 2 роки тому

      @@3el1o0 that’s the plus side of mulberry trees dropping their leaves (free mulch) but if your goal is to put up a privacy screen, just good to know mulberry trees are ‘see through’ for the winter, so if you’re ok with only having privacy for part of the year, then you can’t beat the beautiful and delicious Mulberries!!

    I should maybe consider mulberries. I now live on a nearly 6 acre hobby farm with a lot of fruit and nut trees planted perhaps more than 30 years ago. I had considered properties north of Perth, Australia but Mediterranean fruit fly was a problem I didn’t want to have to deal with, although you can use baits or netting to reduce their negative impact. Having said that I didn’t find fruit fly going for the white Pakistani shatoot mulberry I had when I lived in Perth. Preferring black mulberries I should definitely consider trialing a black mulberry tree where I now live. On my property there is definitely a few apple and a fuyu persimmon which could be removed and replaced with mulberries which I find a pretty decent fruit.

    This is actually a question about your clumping bamboo because I'm considering using it. Have you ever had trouble with neighbors complaining that your bamboo seeds are growing in their yard? How far do the seeds travel do you know?

    • @4thdimensionalexplorer
      @4thdimensionalexplorer 2 роки тому

      Bamboo seeds are pretty picky germinaters and require a lot of moisture and warmth and cant dry out. The seeds shouldn't be an issue. Clumping bamboo wont spread either. Any bamboo can be controled in arizona because it only grows in moist well draining soil. You shohld be fine.

    Quick question for you or your viewers...
    I am growing 2 mango seedlings and 2 avocado seedlings in container pots. Mango are about 6-8 inches tall, avocado about 12-15 inches. I'm told I have to graft scions to the base stalk in order to assure fruit production for both species.
    Do you sell or know of a business or garden group in AZ that sells these
    scions ? Thanks for your help !
    Don
